Cyanogenmod 10.1.2 stable for 4X HD - any known issues? - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi all,
I've searched on this forum and in Cyanogenmod's forum about the stable release of Cyanogenmod version 10.1.2 (latest stable I think), but couldn't find an answer about this. Are there any known issues or shortcomings of this ROM? Is everything working fine? (internal/external storage, NFC, WiFi, etc.)? I live in Chile, are there any concerns about baseband, ie. will telephony/3G work just fine?
I want to try CM asap, but I'd like to find some reassuring info that everything will work fine afterwards
Thanks in advance for any help on this,
UPDATE: I'll list here a summary of known issues I'm aware of; thanks a lot to all who have replied! Please correct me if I got anything wrong, I want to document known issues for the LATEST STABLE CM version only! Nightlies don't count!
- Issues with MHL (Not working? working poorly?)
- No screen wake with volume key (my stock v20A doesn't do that, either, for the record
- No FM Radio
- WiFi during sleep drains battery quickly
- Having NFC on drains battery quickly
- Camera app sometimes corrupts pictures on best quality settings
- Can't connect to WEP-protected WiFi networks (found this elsewhere on the forums)

Everything works perfectly fine from my experience. Apart from the MHL issue, which I recently discovered, everything is perfectly done

there is no volume wake... in stock when lock screen offs.. volume key wakes the screen. its not bug just a tip!
there is no lg hidden menu too and lg fm radio
but there is a lot of other things in cm

wifi during sleep no very good (drains battery, but stays better with iodak kernel)
some also say nfc drains battery, havent tested myself.
camera app little bug when putting pictures to excelent quality (becomes corrupt if to many details on picture)

Thanks a lot for all your replies. I've added an update to the original post with all known issues I've been able to gather, from replies to this thread and looking on the forums.

I had issues

I don't know, but I had to go back to the LG ROM, after install the CM 10.1.2 on my LG 4X the battery life was the worst I've ever seen, I had to recharge it at least 3 times per day. When I let the phone completely charged at night, in 6 hours the phone drained up to 20% of the battery, I mean, the phone just standing by drained 20%!!! I think that's crazy!!... I let it with 100% and when I woke up the phone had only between 85% and 80%... when with the LG ROM it just drained at most 4% (96% for use). And when I was using the phone, the screen process used up to 50% of the battery. I had to go back to the original rom.
I have to say that the phone ran so much better in every aspect than with the LG ROM, but I prefere battery life. Has anyone had the same problem that me? I would like to go back to the CM but for me is very important the battery life.
Thank you so much!

I was about to change to it but then I wad told that there's battery problems so I thought it is not worth it.

In all cm based roms i had lockscreen notification bar drop issue i think it's the only annoying bug.
Not sure if it's in 10.1.2.

Installing as I type! Can't wait the original kernel to get the battery related patches!
I am having a wired problem - after a while on standby, upon waking up the phone, it freezes. Clock doesn't advance and phone does not respond on buttons/slider. So I do a soft-reset after which in winmo I get a message sdcard is not formatted, do I want to format it. and indeed file system is damaged. And this happens for a second time in a row now! I havent had problems like that with other distributions, at least ones that require ext2 partition. Anyone have advice?

well, i cant charge
So far, it's perfect. Two issues that need to be resolved before I use it permanently is the charging and the battery drain.
Getting really close!

Ok so far so good! BUT: Would you provide us a lil bit of more info!
Which kernel did you use? Included one (=21/8) or that from SuperFroyo??

Sorry, was in a bit of a rush
Working: Marketplace, WiFi, GPS, battery meter, sound, messaging, gmail app, browser, ( bluetooth, I think )
Not: Camera, charging, power management
Used: Only the included files, nothing more.
May anyone please test this kernel?

Hey guys, my Galaxy S should arrive tomorrow.
@all Developers:
Thank you very much for the good work, keep it up
@the rest:
I wish you good luck, that you can enjoy android on your X1 as i will do it on my new phone.
Maybe i'll look back in here from time to time, to see the progress.
Best regards from germany
See ya!
report?
Total performance is smooth
My location , Wi-Fi, Market , Battery Meter , GMail, Sound, Music is working
other function. i didn't use it.
Overall performance is good, but Force Close dialog is too much show..... when i try to do anything. there's a delay (about 5~10sec?)
All of you guys should really post which kernel you are using. It will be very helpful for the developers!
I am downloading at the moment, will try the kernels and post the results
Original kernel + points about FroyoRedux:
- Charging works (I had it plugged when I launched Android, actually does increase WM battery percentage, too)
- Battery meter shows too much, but I think it will calibrate itself if I finish charging
- Speaker bug is there, headphone plug and unplug fixes that
- A bit faster than CyanogenMod6 with Tremere's kernel
- Nice theme
- Mass storage does not work (should I install a driver or something?)
- Sometimes stops responding to any other key than the top power button = home
- 3D does not work
- Sound and calling work fine, cannot adjust in-call volume (possibly due to the keys not working, but I had this problem with CM6+Trem too)
- Pretty much every app works, YOUTUBE TOO (lags a bit, but works)!
New testkernel:
- Phone reboots when first screen of android comes up
- I just replaced files, it crashed at lockscreen
- Ran a new installation, it crashed at black android system (title) -window
SuperFroyo kernel:
- Fastest one, menu scrolling is pretty nice with this kernel
- 3D does not work, Neocore crashes
- Sound works
- Youtube works, and lags less than with original kernel
- Charging does not work, battery meter shows what comes to it's mind

Tried copy/paste of those two files straight into root of SD-card (can only guess as it's not written anywhere). Phone reboots as soon as it comes to PIN-code page. Tried to restart a couple of times but nope.
Tried the SuperFroyo-kernel as well. Much faster in comparison to kernel from tremere's build 21/8.
Else, nothing more to add other then lkoljo wrote.
Big thx!
tried this kernel
xperia-xdandroid-kernel-20100922
Sound didn't work??
I'm useing the test kernel now, and it booted up without any problems
Gonna test Battery life for 2 hours, then switch back to vm to see if it gives good result's
Did you use the test-kernel from scratch. I mean when first booting up? or did you try first included kernel then after booting up you replaced kernel? I ask this because it's just not clear for me: You say it works w/o hassle and others report that they can't even get into the Launcher or that they have a black screen. I am just confused now
I did first use Tremere's Kernel with your build, and then i just copied the test kernel start from vm and booted it up. It's fast and stable it seems, i did use Android in standby mode for one and half hour. Well i did look around in system meny and such tried calling it but no signal just vibrate wich i did turn on. Battery used in android is 20% from fully charged 100% Switch back to vm says 78% so the meter seems almost correct. Tried original charger but it didn't work, Then tried pc usb charging and it seems to work Gonna try Xdandroid's new kernel now released today. Will get back to you tomorrow
I have now tested the new Xdandroid kernel released 23/9/10 for one and half hour now, switched back to vm and guess what?
i had 100% when i started android, used it for one and a half hour and then i switched back to vm it had only used 9% battery
Thats the best result i ever had using android, so hey if only sound/ mic problem gets fixed then this would be great
Grab the new kernel from thier Xdandroid wiki
I have tested 21/09/2010 [Xperia X1][FroyoRedux-Port][CM6] with the latest kernel from xdandroid (23/9/10) and it works very well, stable and fast. And the battery is a big improvment!!
I also overclocked it to 640mhz and the UI is then superfast.
Keep up the good work

you use zimage to?
FYI: In the next days there will be heavy updates regarding some of my builds. Fixed almost everything I could! Just trying out today some of the kernels released lately and then I think we will have a really really good CM6-Ports ready for all of you! Everything that's working in XDAndroid "Final" should then also work for us! So maybe I will call my builds "Pre-Final". Another thing that I should mention is that user ferlanero from xda-devs has today shipped over his X1 from Spain to Germany (my location). Once I receive it I will be going to try some NAND-related stuff!
X1 from user sequester will be my porting-device to test ports and latest nightlies from Cyanogen
X1 from user ferlanero will be my nand-test-device
Be prepared to get the proposed updates (see above) on this weekend. Again speical thanx to sequester and ferlanero for supporting me! This really motivates me in doing all this stuff!

[Q] Extreme sensor usage Gallery and Camera apps

Hey everyone,
I'm on CM7 (Temasek's KANG) and Gallery and Camera are draining my battery majorly by heavy sensor usage. Often either of them is responsible for ~30% of my battery usage. I've searched here and googled, but I didn't find a solution. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
I too have same thing here, but i think its normal coz any phone on which I've used cyanogenmod, shows usage on camera and gallery for no reasonreason

I know it happens for more people, so I can't imagine there's no fix =/
+1 to this, which kernel are you guys using?
same here, but it also happens using other apps like youtube, the only way to fix is to reboot the phone... in some cases temporary disabling auto screen rotation may resolve the issue
i already tried switching from stock kernel to vadonka's builds with no results, i'm on temasek's rc1-89
does this happen only on cm7 based roms??

Have you tried temasek's kernel? I'm trying that one atm and it seems to work better. (Can't confirm yet, will update when sure)
I also changed the default gallery for QuickPic that doesn't uses the sensor and disabled the sensor before rebooting, that avoids sensor use at all until I really need it i.e. watching a video. I'm more like a vertical phone user so I'm ok with it. Can you confirm that the bug isn't on stock based roms?

that's the first thing i did because apps like gallery3d (and youtube) use sensors regardless of your display rotation settings
As far as I know the sensor issue in gallery isn't as bad as we think. Though the battery history shows big % but actually it uses near to nothing.
temasek's kernel seems to not trigger the bug that often, or at least after apps are killed seems to not leave the sensor on use, I cannot be sure as I haven't checked the logcat or anything... only the battery stats.
Do you guys know if partial wakes are too heavy on battery? facebook seems to keep the phone awake a lot (like 50%) so it doesn't sleeps.
now that temasek says that it's not much of a battery drain I might go back to etana's kernel after trying this one for some days, to compare better
oh and temasek ---> HUGE THANKS FOR YOUR ROM!

Cyanogen 10.1/FXP 216 Issues

Hi everyone-
Unfortunately I'm new to these forums so I can't post to the developer forums myself (even though I'm an android developer in my 9-5), I just wanted to let people know my experience with the lastest FXP 216 ROM.
Firstly; 4.2.2 is a lot better at 4.1.2, especially when it comes to UI interactions - Project butter really works very well in this release of android, a lot of the garbage collector/kernel have been optimised, and you do get a better battery life as a result - I'm able to get a full day out of my Xperia Z without having to turn STAMINA mode on (of course... Stamina mode doesn't exist in FXP/AOKP).
In FXP 216, almost everything works as you expect it - Wifi, camera, auto screen brightness, FM Radio, most things are just flawless. I've only found three problems - One major (depending on your use).
1) GPS just doesn't work for all apps. Google Maps works fine but Runkeeper, and GPS Test fail to get a lock. I've tried Faster Fix to no avail. Definitely seems like a problem with the type of hardware - i.e. Google Maps works because it doesn't require such a perfect lock as Runkeeper. I suspect this is a problem with GLONASS support but it would merely be speculation.
2) And this is minor one for me - Headset buttons don't work - i.e. you can't play/pause/skip music with them.
3) FXP 216 has an "interesting" issue where it won't pick up UK phone networks without having to play with some of the settings. Play with the settings a couple of times, reboot a couple of times, and all comes good. Strangely the Xperia AOKP nightly doesn't have this problem.
But the GPS is a killer problem for me as I use Runkeeper every couple of days, so back to a rooted stock for me. I'll definitely keep my eye on FXP, and I might (if I find myself suddenly un-lazy on a Sunday) file a bug with them or Cyanogen alerting them to the GPS issues.
Anyway, I just wanted to put that out there seeing as I can't reply on the ROM boards as I'm a n00b and all.

[Q] Bugs, bugs, bugs

Dear all,
it is my first try to run cyanogenmod (10.1 Rel 7) on my SGS+. But when using it, I immediately found plenty of issues:
- Navigation is only partially working. After a while the maps starts jumping around and dark semi transparent overlay sections appear so that one cannot see the full map. In the forum I found the hint to deactivate Dithering. Done. Only little improvement.
- Alarm clock is not working when the phone is turned off.
- Screen goes off after dialing a number (workaround: lift phone to the ear and lower it back down -> screen is on again).
- No FM radio app (in comparison to the stock rom).
- Skype video is still upside down (as with stock rom).
My colleagues were very enthusiastic about cyanogen mod. In contrast, I haven't really detected the advantages. Are the developpers still working on the issues? Is there anything I can do to support you guys?
To answer your queries:
-Navigation- use the bug reporting method on the CM10.1 forums and submit it as a bug report either in the S CM10.1 thread or on JIRA. More details are given in the CM10.1 thread OP.
-This feature doesn't work even on stock. Its not a bug, and its not just CM10.1. MIUI allows this apparently however.
-This is normal, not a bug either. When you call someone the screen goes off because you're going to lift it to your ear anyway. The 'workaround' is actually the proximity sensor, and a similar thing happens on stock roms. The only solution to this is to press a button when the screen initially turns off.
-FM Radio isn't included in CM builds by default, as the API needed for it needs some intense changes made to it. There's Spirit FM if you want to run the risk. Check out the thread for more information.
-Skype on CM10.x is a known issue
Try CM10.2 and see if that helps the first issue, if not, report it using the methods in the CM threads. Otherwise everything else is as normal/known.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
Irrespective of a few bugs there are definitely a number of advantages to using CM.
Have you noticed how smooth CM10.1 is? For me it's smoother than stock. Definitely a plus.
The pre-installed applications are more polished/work better and you actually have control over them. Don't like one? You can remove it. Unlike stock where you are stuck with a lot of junk (unless you have rooted your phone).
Bugfixes! We're no longer stuck with a 2 year old version of an OS for which we don't receive any bugfixes.
Customizability. CM gives you a lot more features to have your phone just the way you want it.
Overclocking and undervolting.
Not everyone had this problem, but my phone took > 5 minutes to get a GPS fix on stock. It takes < 10 seconds on CM.
And that's just what I came up with in a few minutes. Yes, there will be a few bugs and features which you think are weird (like the screen turning off when you make a call) but you'll find that on any piece of software. If you personally feel CM is a downgrade then it's your right to think so and go back to stock ROM. That doesn't mean the average xda-user is going to agree with you though.
(I think there are also a few ROMs based on the stock 2.3.6 versions, but since I've never used them I wouldn't know which ones are worth trying.)

Very good ROM
Only 1 issue - couldn't turn off NFC, neither in notification bar, nor in settings. It would just pop right back on. Had to disable it in app settings. In battery info it's showing NFC to take up 40% of the power.
If someone is uncertain - this is IMHO good for daily use, no crashes so far.
One thing, when screen is off Battery Monitor Widget shows +875mA current on 2A charger. But when I'm using the phone (mail, web browsing) it shows that battery is discharging "-100mA", even though it's connected to charger. Is that software related, or I need to replace the USB socket/charging circuit in my 4xHD? I have it since yesterday and I instantly flashed CM :/
NFC: Read and you'll find it out. Otherwise trying the most trivial idea regarding any software would work as well.
Charging: No problem there, the system lowers charging current when the device gets hot, i.e. when you use it.

Are you sure about that? That's the first phone that did this to me. LG GT540, and LG G2 were charging pretty fast, even when under 'heavy' usage (playing games, etc), and 4xHD have dissapointed me utterly, when it has screen on and I'm just using dictionary/whatever (Wi-Fi and mobile data off) it's slowly discharging.
Man, I think I'll cry after G2's battery life and features in a while.

Problem with Wireless
Hi,
I have a problem with my wireless. Especially with the wireless network eduroam which is used by several universitys. It uses 802.1x EAP with PEAP and MSCHAPV2. It seems when I'm changing my location the wireless crashes. I'm not able to turn it off and the whole configuration and mobile internet crashes too. After crashing there is a information that the configuration was terminated. I'm using the version 11-20140916-SNAPSGIT-M10-p880 but I also tried the newest nightly. Sometimes the wirless crashes in my home Wifi. Is this bug already commited and what I'm supposed to do?
Thx.
I have no problems with eduroam, just used it for around half an hour without issues.
I'm using Official CyanogenMod 11 M10, and the phone is pretty much rock stable. The only things I would like changed are:
1) Boot time to be shorter
2) Battery consumption to be more efficient
Can we expect these problems to be solved on the next Stable/Snapshot build?

1. That ain't a problem
2. I think that here can't be done much anymore, battery is OK. It's hardware issue. I get max out of battery when i charge over night. If i eject charger right after charging reach 100% battery last much less..
With charging over night i get about 15-20 h on and about 2h screen on time

I cant recieve calls?
Hi there, I would appreciate any help whatsoever. The first custom rom I flashed was paranoid android but it was buggy so I thought I'd give cyanogenmod a shot. I flashed a stable 10.1.3 only to find a problem which I guess only I have. I cant recieve calls and when I go into settings>about phone, my IMEI is there but phone number says unknown. Why have a phone if you cant recieve calls? Whatsapp doesn't work either by the way. I like this ROM and I don't want to go back to stock. I'm new to flashing so please make replies detailed Also, does anyone know how to disable the button lights?

Flash CM11, I'm on 20141018 nightly and it's pretty much usable as a "daily" ROM. Just get recovery (AFAIR you need at least 6.0.4.4 to flash KitKat ROM), flash it, copy ROM and google apps to your SD card, wipe cache, data, format system partition, wipe dalvik (I don't even know if all of this is necessary) and you should be good to go. In recovery thread there will be tutorial on how to flash it, and as you flashed a ROM already you should know how to do the rest
help please can't overclock my LG 4x to 1.6 or 1.7 ........ I don't know why do every think ( root / unlock boot loader ) try most rooms and kernels ( wipe cache, data, format system partition, wipe dalvik ) !!!!!!!!
baseband for italy
Hello, I'm using baseband form v20d of the turkey stock. I have no network problems with CM11 (or beanstalk) . Anyone would suggest to update to baseband v20c for germany/italy ?
MAC changed during 20C update?
Hello, anyone else noticed that your WLAN-MAC changed during upgrading to latest firmware? I was updating from 20A_EU-->20C_GER. Phone originally came with Telekom Firmware (German). New Baseband works okay for now, crashed yesterday 1 time, but maybe it was related to me hitting the traffic limit on my contract and getting throttled. I'm using the nightly from the 27th.
data connection loss
Hi!
I've been facing this issue for a long time now and i tried a ton of roms, switching back and forth from the cyanogenmod 11 to omni and others... I find almost impossible using my data connection 'cause every time i switch it on, after about 5 minutes i end up having no connection at all (no service). Sometimes my phone asks me to reenter my pin number and everything seems to work fine for a couple of minutes, then i have no service; sometimes it doesn't even ask me the pin code and i have to reboot my phone in order to make a call... How can i fix it? It has driven me crazy, i searched all over the forum for answers but it seems none has my problem.
EDIT
In addition, since i keep off the backlight of the buttons on the bottom, i noticed that whenever this bug occurs, the backlight goes on and keesps staying on 'till i switch it off again, even if i reenter my pin code
