Hi,
I have the Sony Xperia SP HSPA+ M35h C5302 Model
Running 4.1.2 Build No. 12.0.A.1.257 Rooted.
I want use wifi over adhoc on android since my wifi card does not support Access point thats the only choice.
I have used this method earlier also on Livw with walkman and was able to use the adhoc without any problem.
The method was:
Code:
All i done was first turn off wifi and then open wpa_
supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and placed
network={
ssid="Red"
mode=1
frequency=2412
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=50
}
in end. Dilushan should replace with wifi network name. Then got ownership back to system.wifi by typing the following 2 commands in Terminal Emulator.
su
then
chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
thats all. Then i opened wifi in setting and it
automatically connected adhock network named
Dilushan. I
connected successfully to nokia phone wifi
network created by joikuspot and browsed internet
and also connected to a windows laptop. my
device xperia mini 4.0.4 .431 rooted locked
bootloader.
But when i done the same thing on the SP I can see the adhoc i added but it was showing "not in range"
If someone was able to do it please share.
Of if someone has edited tha wpa_supplicant file for the adhoc support for SP please share with me.

Hi everybody
I have a little question. I want to connect to a wifi ad hoc network. With my PC everything is ok, but (obviously) my Tattoo can't find the net. I read about modifying two files (tiwlan.ini and another one). But.. How can I do?
I have the original ROM (1.6) rooted and with amon ra recovery.
Thank you

I'll surely try GingerB as soon as the devs will finish their work on the camera.. what i'd like to know is how can i get and put the files in this location and how should i modify them.
BTW, every Froyo and GingerB ROM can connect to ad hoc wireless networks and send files over bluetooth?
Thank you
solution
The G1 does not connect to ad hoc networks through the wifi manager but we can hack it to allow scanning and connecting to ad hocs. I’ve been trying to figure this out for the longest time. Before you begin, you need to root your G1 and be comfortable using the command line. We will be editing tiwlan.ini and wpa_supplicant.conf. I will be showing you 2 ways to edit the files. Using vi and adb.
Settings
edit tiwlan.ini to read:
WiFiAdHoc = 1
dot11DesiredSSID = HydtechAdhoc (or whatever name u want)
dot11DesiredBSSType = 0
edit wpa_supplicant.conf to read:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=2 (tells wpa_supplicant to scan hidden networks)
network={
ssid=”HydtechAdhoc”
scan_ssid=1 (for APs with multiple SSIDS)
mode=1
key_mgmt=NONE
group=WEP104
auth_alg=SHARED
wep_key0=”MyWepKey” (replace MyWepKey with your key)
}

what adb commands should i use? I think that i have to
1) get the files (adb pull /directory_on_phone/tiwlan.ini tiwlan.ini)
2) modify it with notepad
3) set the system dir rw (
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# insmod tattoo-hack.ko
# mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
4) push the files on the phone.. but how? with adb push tiwlan.ini /directory_on_phone/tiwlan.ini ? Is this correct or when i type "exit" to come back to dos prompt the phone unmounts the partition?

Is this for every ad hoc connection or i have to modify tiwlan.ini and wpa_supplicant.conf every time i change SSID or WEP KEY? what if i want to keep more than one ad hoc network in memory?
Thank you a lot
Hi, I installed GingerDX v14 7 days back into my Xperia X8i. This ROM is working fantastic and with all function. One problem I found that my phone can not connect with Adhoc Wifi connection with my laptop. When I try to connect the cell tries for 5 to 8 mins and reboots automatically. But with my Wifi router it has no problem. Can some one help me?

@Flypants101010 : yes sir, I also have stock kernel with GingerDX v14. Still now we dont have any option to solve. I searched forum for the solution but I didnt find any. If you get some I request you to remember me please and share.
i have an idea we could change the tiwlan.ini in /system/etc/wifi like in the mod for faster
wifi (N standard mod) it says that the mod enables n standard and wifi adhoc im going to try it!
i use gingerdx 017 and i had try your sugestion, i change to faster mode wifi (n standard mode), but the problem was not solved.
I think gingerDX not yet support wifi hotspot. Can try app like Barnacle from market (saw somewhere in this forumn work well, haven't tried yet).
Well you're luck cuz I don't have any wifi or bt now (after installing GDX v17)
anyway, if you want to connect your phone with laptop I can help there is app called connectify (it's cool really) give it try.
I hope I helped
guys, nothing helped me. the problem remains same. ugraded to v17
do a clean install make sure u do a full wipe and all your wifi problems and bluetooth problems should have disappeared ive never had any problems with wifi or bt when using the method i just told you
Even after clean install of GDx V019, then full wipe, X8 fails to connect to Ad-hoc N/w on my laptop. It fails to get the IP address. But there is absolutely no problem in connecting with wifi.
try connecting to other wifi networks ? maybe its your laptop ?

AdHoc Problem
Hi,
I found out the solution, it worked gem for me. All new custom ROMs comes with Wifi N standard enabled and as per developers N standard does not support Adhoc connectivity. So simply we need to disable the N standard if you frequently use Adhoc or you don’t have N standard routers.
Follow this steps:
- Launch Root Explorer.
- go to: /system/etc and find a file named tiwlan.ini(Path for miniCM RC1 or CM6). For CM7 based ROMs the path may be /system/etc/wifi. And copy this file to SD card??
- Now copy(tiwlan.ini) file to your computer via USB cable. And open the file using Notepad.
- Look for these below mentioned lines and change them from 1 to 0 (use ctrl+f to search in notepad)
HT_Enable=1 ---> HT_Enable=0
BurstModeEnable = 1 ---> BurstModeEnable = 0
Single_Dual_Band_Solution = 1 ---> Single_Dual_Band_Solution = 0
(CAUTION: DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE OR USE SPACE JUST REPLACE 1 WITH 0)
- Now copy the edited tiwlan.ini from your computer to your SD card, and then copy this to its original location by using root explorer with mount R/O enabled and replace the original file, and exit from root explorer without any further changes.
- Go to settings from menu and go to wireless & network>Wi-fi setting and clear all the network(SSID) name you used before by long pressing the name and then select forget network.
- Restart your phone and enjoy??
If useful pls hit the thanks button.
thanks dude worked charm for my friend x8
it worked for me after I unlocked my bootloader and flashed alfs 07 ics kernal and used gdx 22 and it works perfectly and better performance
Great to hear this some people successfully connected to Adhoc wifi.

It was a good advice at the time of the writing, but GingerDX v29 already contains these modifications.
I tried wifi hotspot function using two X8 phones, both running GingerDX v29. As I also had "error" always when I tried to start it. Interesting thought my X10 mini Pro (also running GingerDX v29) was working as a hotspot using the same menu item.
Then I realised what is written in the first post:
GingerDX v029 (29-09-2012) - huuuuuuuuge update:
Based on MiniCM shakira device tree
CM nightly dated on 28/09/2012
New devices officially supported from now (Xperia X10 Mini, Xperia X10 Mini Pro, Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-5830 - thanks to CallMeVentus)
Updated Google Play Store to 3.8.17
Removed Nemus Launcher
Added Holo Launcher 1.2.4
Added Google Authenticator
Spare Parts/Dev Tools
Ultra-brightness
Ultra-brightness power toggle
Native WiFi tethering (custom kernel only)

Which was the problem the X8's had. As custom kernels require unlocked bootloader and they should be produced before 11w29 as the guide says:
If your phone's manufacture date is 11W29 or PAST 11W29, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER. IT WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN A HARD BRICK

So this can also be the reason. HTH
Hi
I have got the stock ICS Galaxy DDLP4 (baseband version) for India installed. I had rooted the phone and then installed the Franco kernel v5.
The issue is that my WIFI does not work on the phone.
I have tried Wizdom13 kernel also but still the problem persist. Also I have updated the Franco kernel to v6 but it does not work.
Could somebody advise me on a Kernel which I could install to get the WIFI working.

Rex
Requirements to Enable Ad-hoc on Samsung Galaxy Note:-
1. You Devices is already rooted .
2. Need Root Explorer, Purchased it from android market .
3. Download wpa_supplicant+Root Explorer from here and extract both files on a folder.
How to Enable Ad-hoc for Wireless Networks on Samsung Galaxy Note:-
The whole process is to replace the existing wpa_supplicant file to the downloaded file from steps 3. Now check in brief,
Step 1:- Send Both files (wpa_supplicant+Root Explorer) on your Device either bluetooth or USB cable. Step 2:- Now install Root Explorer.apk files and open it. Step 3:- Now Go to this path /system/bin/ and click on Mount R/O Button to change from Read Only Mode to Read Write Mode. Step 4:- Rename the wpa_supplicant to any new name and then move the new wpa_supplicant to same path(/system/bin/). Step 5:- Now adjust file permissions of new file to same Step 6:- Change the /System/bin/ mode to read only mode. Step 7:- Now Enable WiFi and connect your ad-hoc network like a normal wifi network. I am running the AT&T Galaxy Note with to official ICS update, rooted with BusyBox installed and I have tried the above method three times with no success; once the wpa_supplicant file is replaced, the wifi will not turn on (no error shown). Reverting back to the original file restores normal wifi operation.
I have hunted high and low for solutions to allow connections to Ad Hoc networks but have yet to find a solution. Even hunted down a copy of the "WiFi Ad Hoc Enabler" that was pulled from the Market (Developer is short on time these days I am guessing), and it does not work either, same results only easier to reverse.
I know the official AT&T/Samsung ICS update has only been out two days but I am still hoping someone finds the tweak/patch soon to allow connectitons to Ad Hoc networks.
Thanks for any help.
User firesg seems to have gotten ad hoc connections to work on his device (not a Note), by using the command wpa_cli. But as gnocchi_ny points out in the same thread: this command seems to be not available in the ICS update that Samsung sent out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427207
so... if anyone can tell me if (and how) I can get the wpa cli on my Note, I'd like to give it a shot....
Hi everyone,
I appreciate any help you can give "the newbie" here.
I swear I'm not a total moron, but I can't get this to work. I've tried searching the forums and google, and I've found posts with similar problems, but no solutions. Until I can get another computer to test this on, I don't know if the problem is with my Droid Bionic (unrooted, running JB stock 4.1.2), or my computer (Mac OSX 10.8.3) or my modem.
I would LOVE to root my phone, but I can't even get the darned thing to connect to my computer through the file app!
The phone is on the same wifi network as my computer. Both have no trouble accessing the internet. Both can ping each other (packets sent and received fine). But I can't connect one to the other.
I turn on file sharing on my computer with SMB only
select a folder on my computer to share
Assign a user and password permission to access that folder
make sure permissions for that folder are set to read and write
then go to my phone, open the stock file app
Select "Remote Storages" and "add storage"
Then I enter the IP address for the computer
WORKGROUP for the domain name
The name of the shared folder
The user name and password
then I try to connect.
And I get an alert box on the phone that says
"Network Error
There is a problem in your network connection with remote host. Please repair your network connection and try again."
I'm doing everything that's obvious to do, so I'm guessing there's something "not obvious" that I'm missing. - Anyone here had a similar problem and solved it?
Some things I've tried:
Moving the shared folder to different directories including root, desktop, and "public folder" (each time I moved it, I removed it from the shared list and re-added it)
Creating a guest account and allowing it access to the shared folder - no password needed
Creating a 2nd admin account and allowing it access to shared folders (password)
Turning off computer's firewall
Seeing if I could connect through the computer and phone's browsers (no go!)
Lots of turning things on and off (sharing, users, permissions, wireless...etc.)
Gone into recovery mode on the phone and done a factory reset and wiped the cache partition.
When I check my modem's admin page, I can see both the computer and phone listed there as connected devices. The modem sees them both, and they can ping each other. Why the heck can't I connect them to each other?
Oh, and though I don't think this is relevant, when I connect via cable in USB Storage mode, I can see the internal and external cards on my Mac just fine. They both mount as drives and I can drag stuff back and forth. - Wish I could find instructions to root THAT way!
I finally get the nerve to try to root this and get it on TMobile, and I can't get past the part that should be a no-brainer!
Any help would be appreciated.

Editing on 1/8/14 to add that the problem may be related to a Samba issue in OSX Mountain Lion. I'm also wondering if it could be an issue with my modem, which is several years old. I'm going away for about a week so I may try this on a friend's computer. I'll report back WHEN I am successful with this (because I will be!)
Can't root through Mac Mountain Lion. Use Easy Root in VB
Replying to my own post, to follow up. I was unable to connect through samba on my mac running Mountain Lion, while at a friend's house. So the problem was not the modem, but my OS itself.
I'd read that Easy Root ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256439 ) using Virtual Box hadn't worked on a Mac, but I decided to try it anyway. I had to change one setting in Virtual Box from NVidia to "en1: Wi-Fi (AirPort)", and then the Easy Root worked flawlessly. When it got to the part about connecting the Bionic to the Remote Storage folder, I thought "Here we go... this is the part that won't work!" but with Easy Root running in Virtual Box, the bionic connected to the shared folder perfectly.
Mac users with Mountain Lion or above, use Easy Root in Virtual Box to root your Droid Bionic running Jellybean 4.1.2 (here's the link again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256439 ). I know there are posts by people who were able to root their droids through the Mac terminal, but I'm guessing they were on an older OS where smb still worked correctly.
Hi
I'm trying to change my rooted Xperia Z MAC address and android ID.
It's on official android 4.4.4
I tried some apps on play store, some of the succeed to change my MAC like Pry-Fi,
but then I couldn't connect to any network
I tried
Code:
ip link
and
Code:
ifconfig
commands and
the same problem happened again.
Any ideas?
