[Discussion] Unmentioned Android 4.3 Features - Nexus 4 General

Starting with what I and some others found there is a new image cropper and edited in the gallery and App Ops which you can enable and disable permissions from.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Not sure if it's something new, but AT mentioned about TRIM function in 4.3 N7 review.
Was this feature every included in any previous version or by OEMs?

A thread already exists to discuss features of 4.3

[ROM][ARC/S][UPCOMING]Sony Xperia Arc UltimateXtreme ICS_coming soon

Hi, I have a conceptional name of Arc ICS custom Rom "UltimateXtreme" that it will be UltimateSS successor. Upcoming ROM will include some apps from Xperia S ICS update and It will available on Late June/ First July soon. But, I'm testing on alpha version on this mod therefore I'm working on beta version. If beta version work. It will release on ROM version.
And also, this is my predicted ROM status :
- build number still 9.1.A.0.768 ( followed from GB to ICS )
- Working on stock kernel or something.
- bloatware removed
- Vendor apps ( but I don't know how to nod vendor apps and do permission ) and

[ROM] JD's Builds [ Perfect Android 4.2.2 ] 6-23-2013

This is a simple AOSP rom that I'm maintaining for myself and sharing with the community.
Perfect Android is a open source ROM built from the ground up with the idea of being clean and stable for your Android device.
Based off of Android Open Source Project code, features and fixes are introduced with each build.
If you are looking for something that is more feature developed I would suggest BAMF, CyanogenMOD, AOKP, or ParaniodAndroid, that offers more.
Feature list:
- "Clear all" button on recent apps
- Apollo music player (thanks CM Team)
- DSP Manager (Thanks CM Team)
- Basic File Manager app (Thanks Open Intents)
- "Torch" flashlight app for devices that have a camera flash
- Power button menu "Reboot", "Screenshot", and "Expanded desktop" options
- Option to remove persistant search bar and enable auto rotation in Launcher settings
Instructions:
First time flashing device, or coming from another ROM?
Download the zip(s).
Optional: adb backup
Fastboot oem unlock > fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Wipe data & cache partitions of your device (required when coming from stock!).
Flash ROM.
Optional: Install the G-apps.
ROM: Link
G-Apps (optional): Link
Source: Link
Follow the above link for the complete source to make your own changes or to completely debug down to the core of the rom also follow my github for detailed changes.
Always remember that XDA started out as a great place and will remain a great place as long as we are great to each other anything used in this ROM is available upon request and feel free to use this as a base rom for any other project.
WANT TO CUSTOMIZE THIS ROM READ THIS:
Want to add or remove anything or customize for yourself use DSIXDA's Kitchen. Its a great kitchen for customizing prebuilt ROMs.
Thanks for sharing. Do you know how to remove that message popping up "sending" every now and then. ?

Its not when you send a text message. It just pops up. It also does on the stock google image. I'm not exactly sure what it is. It might be the phone sending logs to google. It is remove in most custom ROMs. But not in this one.

Ota-ish is more convenient. This one will feel like you are missing a lot of useful stuff. But that's how AOSP is. I plan on using this as a base for testing battery, performance, and stability of mods.

I have tried most of the ROM´s you pasted here, and no one is pure aosp. All those have mods for navbar, the "clear all" button on recents, advanced reboot menu, quick tiles settings and so on.
As far as I understand, this is just the AOSP in pure form with the fixes it should has to perfectly work, because when compiling AOSP from source, it is not ready to flash to device. Example: backup/restore function is damaged in AOSP, at least until you apply the patches and fixes for this.
:silly:

it means, that you may need to enable it first in dialer settings (like on factory image). its not enabled by default!
So the difference between this one & the Ota-ish one is the inclusion of Gapps

I don't get LTE in my area so I haven't been able to test this. But shouldn't the APN be "fast.t-mobile.com"? It needs a dash between "t" and "mobile".

@Holcomb227
I really love the idea of pure AOSP with all the proper corrections, but also would be nice that you could add some mod section and put there some useful things, for example: the complete reboot menu, some battery mod or maybe a mod for clear all button in recents. Most of them you can find them across the Nexus 4 forums, but it is a hard task to look for them and then try each one, because some of them are not working properly.
In this way, everyone who uses your ROM, could also add whatever they want and give the project a little of cutomizations without losing the pure AOSP spirit.
Although AOSP is pretty fast and nice, it should be a good thing to be able to get some cherrypicks that are really useful, like BaNkS gapps style: one gapps core and then useful addons for those who want them.
I have some of these mods if you are interested in this idea.

Thank you, the volume wake bug was something I saw while reading another thread, but its where you put the device to sleep with the power button then use the rocker to wake it almost immediately = works fine, however if you put it to sleep then wait awhile it does not work.

[GUIDE] kk 4.4 early stage guide | please read before posting in kk rom threads

************************************************** ***************************************************
Early stage guide for Kit Kat 4.4 | Please read before posting in Kit Kat ROM threads
************************************************** ***************************************************
Hi there,
As we get more and more Kit Kat ROMs I've decided to create this thread. In every ROM thread, the same questions are asked so I think it would be useful to collect the most important questions into a central location so the other threads don’t become tedious and difficult to read. If I forgot something or you have any suggestions, please let me know.
@moderators
If I'm in the wrong section please move my thread.
If there is a similar thread (I didn't find one) please close this one.
UPDATE: kk 4.4 factory image out now
hangouts and messaging are in. the normal email app is in too. Don't know if it's the aosp one.
for new google launcher:
1. Google Search http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...y-fixes-gel-on-tablets-and-more-apk-download/
2. Experience Launcher http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...once-you-get-your-kitkat-update-apk-download/
Install in this order the goto 16
after that it looks like the n5 port.
1. Features
All currently available builds are in an early state. This means that a lot of the customization you had in 4.3 ROMs are not available at the moment. The devs are working on it.
2. What isn’t working in all 4.4 ROMs
Binaries released. So everything should working.
3. Dalvik Runtime and ART
A new feature has been implemented in Kit Kat called ART (Android Runtime). What is it? Take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516303
credits to: @freebordjunky
4. Which one should I choose?
It's your own decision! ART is faster than Dalvik from my personal experience. You can switch between runtimes:
settings -> developer options -> select runtime
5. Does ART have any requirements?
Yes. Two important things you should notice:
a.)
If you switch to ART you have to reboot. During the reboot, your device switches from using Dalvik Runtime to ART. This may take a while.
IMPORTANT
You may have a lot FC 's in GAPPS. Why? This happens when you have flashed the wrong GAPPS package. To work properly you have to flash an Odex GAPPS package. You will find this here from @#gnome: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508185
If you want to know more about odex and deodex - ask google
b.)
Some apps are still not working on ART and no known workaround is available. Three apps that I know of are Foursquare, Whatsapp and Titanium Backup (tested 6.10).
WhatsApp Workaround credits to @luiseteyo :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527879
6. GAPPS packages
There are different packages available. It’s all up to preference.
Deodex
1. AOSP launcher and stock Messaging
2. Google Experience Launcher and Hangouts for SMS
Odex (ART)
1. AOSP launcher and stock Messaging
2. Google Experience Launcher and Hangouts for SMS
7. Is this faster than…
Sorry guys. How do I score this? Every configuration is different and so often there are individual experiences so... try, try, try until you find the right one for you.
8. Custom kernels
Binaries released. So kernels will come.
IMPORTANT
If you have screen issues, flash the CM colorfix. It's available here on xda, just use search.
9. SMS & Hangouts
To import SMS from other ROMs, first restore messages using TiBu or SMS Backup & Restore to the AOSP Messaging app. After this you can activate Hangouts as the default SMS app. It should then import your messages. Maybe it's necessary to clear hangout's cache after that.
10. Factory images and binaries
Released
11. Errors during flashing
If you got errors during flashing you have to try another custom recovery. In TWRP there were some problems with version 2.6.3. Upgrade to the latest version (2.6.3.2) to get rid of the errors.

Notice:
Many devs will start their work officially when Google releases the correct binaries. Before then take what you can get and be patient.
I hope this helps all of you out there and cleans up the threads a little bit.
Big thanks to @meijin3 for translation help! Thank you man!

Custom kernels are available. With old binaries. This means not every kernel developer will release his work until google publish the new binaries.

sorry can't find the mistake in this old comment
Dev's are working on it. Some Kernels are available from some dev's. For example from @anarkia1976
Important
If you have screen issues - flash the cm colorfix. It's available here on xda. Use searching

I have disconnect bluetooth issues when streaming in the car. Pebble keeps reconnecting every 15 mins or so. I live on bluetooth because of these two things. In every 4.4 port/rom, it's the same missing libs IMO. So no go for me for now. I am getting a N5, in a few weeks, but wanted to check out KK. Other than the BT issue, the port is a great port! Smooth, and launcher works perfectly! But because of my need of BT I have revered back to my PA 3.99 since last night and BT connection hasn't discoed at all since then.
Thank you !

I am getting BT drops as well. Seems to be after leaving the screen off for a while. It reconnects as soon as turn the screen back on.
I have also had quite a few dropped calls but can't be certain that this wasn't the network.

Thanks for the tips on how to get ART working. I've honestly never used Android with this smoothness before, it's amazing.
You should use bold fonts for the title so more people will notice.
