Anyone else have an issue with the volume muting itself sometimes and not allowing it to increase? Happened when I used "volume ace", but I deleted that a while ago and it's still doing it. Have to restart the phone and then it corrects it. Also, sometimes after setting my profile to silent and then back to normal, my ringtone volume is super loud and I have to readjust it.
Also, my Google sync always says it's experiencing problems and will be back later, is that normal?
Use an explorer to see if there are any remains of the app. I have never had this problem.
You needed to reset sound settings before deleting the app. Try reinstalling the app to try and reset it. If not, factory reset.
I reinstalled volume ace and changed a couple settings and uninstalled. Not sure if that'll make a difference, since it happens so randomly, but I guess I'll see.

Hi, I have an AT&T Nexus One, running FRF85B currently. As of lately, even before update I noticed my home and search button stopped working. The haptic feedback responds when I touch them but they don't do anything. I searched the forums so please don't flame me if I missed a thread. Much thanks to anyone that can help!
P.S. I soft reset the phone a few times and also have reflashed
can you post a logcat of what happens when you press the buttons? and also try wiping cache and dalvik cache
Try to wipe and reflash and post logcat
Gfs stock phone just started doing this. Will try to get some kind of logs... A reset wouldn't make her very happy, fffuuuu

according to this we arent the only ones. it looks like a factory reset can fix the problem, but some on the link above re-encountered the problem weeks later.
surprised XDA hasnt run into this before...
in addition to home/search buttons haptic'in but not doing anything, slide lock screen goes away and the phones cannot receive calls.
Those buttons are programmable, maybe some app took control and does nothing ?A launcher perhaps?
'Programmable'? How can I set Search to ixquick?

The app's manifest needs to mention that it can handle that event

doesnt make sense though, everyone that has had this issue had all 3 completely unrelated issues:
1. buttons vibrate, do nothing
2. phone cannot receive calls
3. lock screen disappears
a wipe fixed it last night but man it was a ***** to reinstall everything for her.

So i started having this problem about 3 weeks ago as well right after i flashed CM7's newest experimental build. first thing I witnessed was not being able to receive calls. I figured that this was a problem with CM7 and flashed modaco's r26, after a full wipe, when it just came out a few days ago. After a day, i got the problem with the lock screen and the home and search buttons not working. I again thought this was a problem with gingerbread for some reason and flashed MIUI Mod Rodriguez style rom, again full wipe. I had restored everything through titanium backup and other forms of recovery and within about 60 minutes my home button and search keys stopped working.
So I finally figured that it was some settings that I must have adjusted and carried through numerous different ROMs that caused the problems. So next time around I didn't restore anything, running on MIUI mod, and didn't restore anything for the remainder of the day to see what happened. Low and behold, after a reset the problem came back. One other complication is that the phone will always forget my google account and i'll have to re-connect it. Then I realize that the home key doesn't work. So even not importing anything from my old Rom's with a clean wipe didn't get rid of it.
I still get haptic feedback, but the buttons just don't do anything. I changed the setting for how home and search respond in both scenarios and can't get any response either. I flashed back to an old version now and so far i'm alright. But if someone can figure out why this is happening that would be awesome.
For the other people who are having this problem, when you're doing a clean wipe are you then restoring things back via titanium back up or otherwise? and when did you first start to experience these problems?
Istarted having this same problem today. I recently flashed over to cm7 rc2 and then the same thing happened. It seems like after I do a titanium backup and then change a setting it will reset to the cm boot screen and when it comes back there's no home screen or search buttons. All the same issues. Haptic feedback works but nothing happens. I'm on an evo btw.
Same thing occuring for me after flashing CM7. Reverted back to Miui, but so far no luck in fixing this. Numerous factory resets have yet to resolve as well. This is pretty frustrating...
Having this issue as well on CM7. DEFINITELY Titanium related.
I had this problem too. I just had to shut down the phone then leave it for about 10-15 minutes then turn it on again. Everything should be fine again. ^^
Ever since i manually updated to frf91 sometimes when i try to wake my phone my screen freezes an i can't unlock it also when i try to power my phone back on it will vibrate 7 times an it wont come on. I guts take the battery out an put it back it to get my phone to turn back on. I've never had this problem until i manually updated my phone. I did a factory reset an it helped for a while but the problems come back. Has anyone had this problem an does anyone know how i can fix this? I'd really appreciate any help i can get
Help please
Is the bootloader unlocked?
this seems to be a common issue with FRF91, although most people's phones will unfreeze after a minute or two, does your backlight turn on and off when you press the power button?

ya i have had to as well but most of the time it wakes just fine
No my bootloader is not unlocked an yea the backlight will come on but it won't unlock. Ive never tried waitin a min to see if it fixes itself i just usually pull the battery when it happens an sometimes when i try to turn my phone back on it does the 7 vibrating thing. Like i said before it never happened until frf91
I have an app called AutoKiller installed. It tweaks the Android system's inner memory management routines. it was set to something other than default. I changed it back to default, and haven't had a problem since. if you have this installed, maybe try and switch it to default settings.
Sounds like a data issue. A factory reset only wipes user data, You must wipe in recovery to wipe rom data. Also make sure you have the correct radio for the build especially coming from lower build. If that's the issue flash radio first to support the build. Then flash the rom.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
How do u wipe in recovery? Yea im a newb lol
Also if i wipe in recovery will i still be on 2.2 or will i have to update to it again?
I'm still in my return period but want to know if there is a way to fix my issue. Sometimes when my phone is set to vibrate mode and the icon is displayed my phone still rings when someone calls. I'm not rooted still stock but wonder if it's a software issue or a hardware problem. Tmobile said it can be resolved in settings but I don't think so. Any help please.

The phone should not do that as I'm sure you know. First thing you need to do reset the phone. Make sure to backup anything you want off the phone first. After that go to settings and then backup & restore. Feel free to use HTC backup it works well but doesn't do pictures unless you have it set to sync with dropbox. So then go to reset the phone. After this test it again. If it does this after the reset then it's defective. There is no special setting you use the volume rocker and can go to vibrate or silent. If the problem continues make sure you have told them there is no other settings and that you have factory reset the phone and the problems still persists.
PS That is freaking weird!!!
I can't figure out what's causing it. I don't have very many apps installed that didn't come with the phone, and any I did install were from the Play Store. I haven't done any modifications such as root to the device.
In order to bring it back to life, I have to either hold the power button down for 30 seconds to shut it down (or take out the battery) and power it back on.
Interestingly, if I have notifications waiting and the LED is flashing, that continues to flash even if the phone won't wake up.
I did 'disable' several of the bloatware apps in the app management area in Settings. I'm starting to think that must be what's causing it. Is there a particular bloatware app that should never be disabled? One that would cause this issue?
Other apps I've installed are things like Netflix, eBay, the app for my bank, and a TV-listings app. Pretty basic stuff. I don't think any of those would be the problem, would they?
Remaining battery doesn't appear to have an effect. It's happened with full battery and somewhat low battery.
'Services' that I use are Exchange push email and Gmail. I also have it Bluetooth synched to my car's hands-free thing.
Any help would be appreciated. Taking my phone out of my pocket to use it just to find that it's not responsive is very troublesome.
Thanks.
EDIT: For clarification, this is an AT&T version of the S4A.

maybe u can enable back all the apps that u have disabled and see if it happens anymore.
u mentioned "the phone won't wake up" and "not responsive". do u mean that the screen stayed off and u are unable to get the screen to be on?

That's right. None of the buttons wake the phone up or turn on the screen. I can tell the phone is still 'on' though. It's not like it got powered off in my pocket.
The advice you've got is sound - if you think it might be because of disabled apps, re-enable them all and see if it keeps happening. If it doesn't... well then you disable them one at a time until it starts happening again.
Then you come back to the forum again and let everyone know which app never to disable.
If it doesn't stop happening after re-enabling all the apps... well then my guess would be a faulty device. Can't think of any other logical reason for it to behave like that. So try the apps first, if that doesn't help, "return to sender".

if enabling back all system apps do not resolve the problem, try disabling all user apps to test. one of your downloaded app may be the cause.
Alright, over the past month I've done a bunch of testing. Here are my results.
1. Re-enabling all the system apps didn't help.
2. I uninstalled all my user apps. Didn't help.
3. I completely reset the phone to stock settings and formatted all storage. That didn't help.
4. I figured maybe it was something with bluetooth since it seemed to happen after I used bluetooth devices. I disabled bluetooth completely. It didn't help.
I'm out of ideas for the moment. Could the phone just be bad? I would wonder why the issue only happens occasionally.
Thanks.
Start a chat with Samsung. They have always been good to me.

Solved, rom change and ready, do not turn off more
I have the same problem in i9500. I now live in China and have purchased an s2, s3 and now the s4 from China Unicom. I have successfully rooted and flashed new ROMS (latest HK stock firmware) on the S2 and S3. When I bought the s4, it worked fine. I immediately flashed the latest stock HK ROM using Odin 3.07, After flashing, the phone is unresponsive after going into deep sleep meaning that nothing happens when I press the power button. After a long press of the power button, the phone will re-boot. Sometimes I have to pull the battery. Again, this phone is totally stock. I haven't added any applications. I re-flashed the stock China Unicom formware and I took the phone to the Samsung Service facility and they did a new flash. Phone worked great. I take it home, flash the HK ROM with Odin...same results; phone is unresponsive after going into deep sleep. I return to the Samsung service store and they again flash the phone. Phone works fine. What are they doing that I'm not doing? Could the partition table get corrupted during my flash processes. Should I try another version of Odin? Should I try a PIT file and try that? I'm downloading the ROM's from SamMobile. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Edit: I fixed this problem by upgrading to 4.3 which brought it's own set of problems.
Hi,
I have started to get this weired issue after the 8.1 update.
Whenever I receive a call, after picking up the speaker phone turns on automatically. I have to manually turn off the speakerphone, also it does not indicate that the speakerphone is turned on.

Solution is mostly the same for all of the problems.
Do full factory reset.
Setup Google account
Don't install any apps just yet.
Try if problem still exists
In most cases this will help.
What I've learned since my first android device, all of the custom ROMs etc, is that the updates are causing loads of problems.
Once in a while, especially after version upgrade, is worth doing full reset just after updating.
This doesn't apply not only to android, but pretty much every single device on the market.

Thanks for the suggestion, But by full factory reset do you mean the hard reset from the recovery menu or just the factory reset from settings menu -> factory reset..?
facing same issue please help
i am facign the same issue please help me out
Still no solution for the problem...I have made an habit to turn speaker phone on and off immediately after calling .
Try Macrodroid app to set an automatic task, to turn speaker off 1 or to seconds after receiving call.
I am also facing Same issue, can any one give suggestions
Somehow that happened to me when I just got the phone a few months ago. I think that was still on 8.0.
But tapping the speaker phone button 2 times everytime I have a call became nature for me and eventually after a few days, I no longer have that issue.
Are you still having that speaker phone issue now?
Yes...but while it was consistent on 8.0 it has become a random occurrence after 8.1 update
same issue
factory reset solution is not acceptable.
