I take no credit for this root method. It's completely the work of DoomLoRD and you can check out this thread here.
Please download the file and read the instructions from the original post since mirror is not allowed. Version v17 works just fine for our phone.
Remarks:
You need to change your phone to use Mass Storage Mode (MSC) instead of Media Transfer Mode (MTP) before you can successfully connect via ADB. Do this in Settings -> Xperia -> USB Connectivity -> USB connection mode.
You can download ADB driver here. During installation, select Xperia A driver, Flashmode Drivers and Fastboot Drivers.
After rooting my phone, I found that whenever I use Titanium Backup to uninstall a system app, my phone would reboot itself. If you're having the same issue, you need to apply the Remount-Reboot fix. Download it from this thread.
Installing ADB Drivers
This will help a lot!

I have a solution for you. Install the driver using the latest flashtool from here HERE
Step 1: Download and install Flashtool
Step 2: Use Flashtool to install driver. You have to navigate to this folder and install driver using Flashtool (see pics below)

I've found that the Superuser app works better than the SuperSU app that installs on the ZR when using the rooting kit. To install the Superuser app, do the the following:
1. Go to the SuperSU app and click on options.
2. In the settings page, click the install another Superuser app.
3. Download Superuser [the chainsdd one] from play store
4. Once it installs, update the binaries and you're done.
Do we need fastboot driver to flash ftf ROM?
I did mine last time with Z without installing any fastboot driver.
Just want to get confirmation before flashing my ZR
Also, I can't find the Xperia A driver on the list from flashtool-drivers file.

Fastboot driver need for flashing kernel only, i think.
In flashtool-0.9.11.0 it is present(driver for Xperia A)

Just a bit confused with the above screenshot, since I only used flashtool in the past with my Z
I've just updated the flashtool driver. The previous one was an old version without Xperia A driver.

Just follow instructions in this thread. It involves multiple steps but not that complicated if you understand them.
EDIT: If you've already upgraded to 4.2.2, then you need to downgrade back to 4.1.2 first.

Do not try this if you have an unlocked bootloader or if you dont know what your doing!
I'm not resposible if you break or brick your phone!
If you're already on a rooted .184 and OTA update is available for you just update your firmware.

If there is no OTA update available for your device follow these instructions:
- Flash back to 3.0.A.2.184 Generic UK with the Flashtool 0.2.9.1
i would recommend that you Wipe User Data when flashing for a optimal flash and fully working OS.
- Use Gingerbreak 1.20 or Gingerbreak 1.20 (Mirror)
- Update your Arc using a OTA (over the air) update
(Go to settings-> About phone-> Software update)
- Enjoy your latest update in rooted 2.3.3!!!
SOLUTIONS:
If you struggle with the update or GingerBreak, either check your memory card for avaliable space or reformat it if your having problems.
If your having problems with the system or settings you should have Wiped User Data when Flashing.
Do NOT modify the system until your done updating to .368

Only difference is that this thread is for this specific firmware, plus this is not .181 firmware
.184 has OTA update to the latest, i dont think .146 have OTA to .368
I know on my phone i tried to update from .181 an then i needed to download a system on 50 MB approx, which i believe is not the latest

Now i cant remember or not, but is the SD card meant to un-mount when running gingerbreak ?

Hello, I would like to know if this form of root is possible with the generic global firmware. Thank you
Hey guys, I have an XT1064 US GSM Moto G.
I followed the tutorial here and flashed the appropriate image to restore the phone to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657
Now, my wifi no longer works no matter what I do.
I have tried deleting the wpa_supplicant.conf file, flashing a different kernel, rebooting without the sim, and wifi will not turn on no matter what. As soon as I slide it on the button snaps back to the off position
Some help would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!
EDIT: Also, every line of flashing has returned [OKAY], and I've run the phone with stock recovery, CWM, and TWRP and no difference
Is it possible I have to relock my bootloader? I don't see how that would affect it but im not an expert
I have the exact same problem... But my device is a XT1069.
Still waiting for a solution... :/

This will only happen if you updated the phone with latest OTA, you can't downgrade the bootloader, if you apply the latest OTA the problem should be solved.

Yes, on my 1064 i issued these commands while on the bootloader:
mfastboot.exe oem lock begin
mfastboot.exe oem lock
It returned a [FAILED] in cmd, but after reboot the bootloader reported it was indeed locked. The unlocked bootloader warning still appeared however, but the logo fix could probably be applied prior to re-locking

Hi, first of all, thanks for accepting to me in the community I am a new user, now.
I have just bought a fire 7, and now I want to root so soon so possible...
Come with the version 5.1.3, my question (very important question right now) is if I have to update and register the device or not, I have not set up the device with wifi cause I think it would automatically upgrade to a higher version....
and the reason to not doing, is reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/development/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool-root-t3272695 have to downgroad the 5.1.3 to 5.1..2 and after this useing SuperTool.
Help with my first steps for not brick the device,
Thanks friends
If you upgrade your fire tp 5.3.2.0 you can then downgrade it to 5.3.1.0 which can be rooted.

Agree on 5.1.3->5.3.2 via OTA followed by 5.3.1 rollback (sideload); then root using the 'SuperTool', not Kingroot directly. 5.3.2 is the latest build at present (reference date of post); first OTA typically updates to most recent build.
Other thoughts:
- no benefit to 5.1.3->5.1.2 rollback; leaves you with a slightly older kernel
- be sure to keep WiFi off after rollbacks (except while rooting)
- no need to register device w/Amazon if custom rom is ultimate goal

to side load you will need the "update-kindle-global-37.5.5.2_user_552153420.bin" file then you power off the fire, then hold down both volume down and the power button in till you see a screen that looks says this "Amazon system recovery <3>"
Scroll down with the volume buttons to "apply update from ADB" use the power button to select it and sideload the file from earlier.

Reload (sideload) FireOS 5.3.1 via stock recovery menu. Refer to forum index, specifically forth post, for recovery details.

Yes, correct file. Forum index (previously referenced) contained a direct link; you didn't have to go hunting.
Thanks again, I have to find out how flashing it to my device ... I saw supertool have a recovery tool, but for the early firmwares ... my english is not so good, I am newbie, and I do not want to make a false step that could break the device so I apreciate a lot you helping me..
Hello,
Searching and reading other threads, I thinks this is the way to unbrick my device, only I want to make sure http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/unbrick-restore-stock-2015-amazon-fire-t3250639
I think not having to install drivers again (supertool did when I rooted, it is ok?) and the only thing to do is change the extension firmware from bin to zip and place it to sd, finally run the Amazon Recovery following the steps i did read.
Although not sure if I have to install the Twrp thing at somewhere.
Thankssss

No, that won't work. Nor can you "install" TWRP. If you can not access the stock recovery menu the device is not recoverable.
I can access to menu recovery, if is this one below, yes I can

See below, 1st and 2nd posts. Includes video. Make sure you have the proper firmware; 3.2.1 is not relevant to this device. Should be 5.1.2, 5.3.1, etc. Must be identical or higher that version of FireOS previously on device. Attempting to go lower usually yields a brick.

Thank I just saw the video.
Although I'm a little afraid to have to take so many steps lol
If I installed drivers to computer, I did it when I ran supertool to do root, I can avoid this step now, can't I?

No - different drivers are used (or just try; of device won't connect you'll need to install/update drivers).
Hi. I am new to this site.
I want to root my Redmi Note 11 but I don't know how to.
I tried looking up online but all I could find were guides on other devices. And outdated too.
I read about Magisk and Magisk Hide which allows you to pass SafetyNet but I also read that it's developer joined Google. So I don't know if it will work or not.
Please help me.
How can I root my phone and pass SafetyNet?

The first step is to unlock your bootloader which usually takes a week. Do that first, then you can browse more and wait for answers while you wait
I have already requested Mi for permission to unlock bootloader. I had to wait 5 days and today is the last day.

Make sure to backup all your data before unlocking bootloader as it will wipe them.
I strongly recommend flashing Xiaomi.eu Stable ROM first as it offers more features than stock and also, you don't have to look for the boot.img again. But in case you want to keep it stock, you want to find the flashboot ROM with the exact same version as the one you have right now and extract the boot.img from it. Then you want to get magisk on your phone, transfer the boot.img to your phone, patch it, transfer it back to your computer, and then use ADB to flash the boot.img

Thank you for replying.
I am quite newbie in rooting.
I can understand enough to follow your instructions but not enough to really know what I am doing.
Can you please elaborate each step and what it does?
Or maybe refer me to a trusted guide where I can understand the tidbits.

I think this sums it pretty well: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/installing-miui-eu-rom-and-root.4426937/
- Backing up data: Back up your data so it won't be lost during bootloader unlock
- Unlock bootloader: allows you to flash into your phone
- Flashing Xiaomi.eu (optional): Their ROM is based on MIUI Global/China which has way more features than region based ROMs and no bloatware. Cons is you have to manually update it and you can't update system apps (as they're also modified to disable ads). Pros is, you know the version you just flashed and the boot.img is also there.
- Finding boot.img: This is the file you want to patch if you want to root your phone. You can find this by extracting the fastboot ROM and it should be inside. In case of stock MIUI, you have to download the exact version that you have right now on https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/ , get the flashboot version, extract, and boot.img should be inside
The rest should be explained in the post above and I think this will also help in installation of Magisk https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html
@notBradPitt Hey, is this the correct fastboot rom for my device?

Yes. After unlocking bootloader, make sure USB debugging is enabled (because you just reset the phone), boot into flashboot mode, and run the "first install" script. Make sure your cables are connected properly so it doesn't corrupt any files. First time booting will take around 15-20 minutes for me, so this is normal and you shouldn't panic.
After that you can continue with the root process. The boot.img should be in "images" folder. Once you are done with it, you can try the tools listed here (https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-pass-safetynet-android/) to pass SafetyNet. You can test the SafetyNet using the tool in Magisk or you can use YASNAC (from Google Play or GitHub)

It's nice.
Xiaomi eu is certainly cleaner than stock. Adless and bloatless. It has new features although some of the stock's features are missing. Play Store is jittery for unknown reasons.
And when I try to open a file in another app, the app list appears quite late and it's laggy too. But that's all and I don't mind it.
Thanks again for recommending it.

Yeah. Rooting with magisk is so easy. And it's uninstallation is easy too.

Yes, data is only needed when you request for permission
Assuming you have unlocked the bootloader
Step by Step Guide:
1. Download Magisk APK and install it
2. Patch your Recovery (Stock, TWRP, Skyhawk, etc) in magisk app and copy the patched img to Computer
3. Switch it off, then boot to bootloader, and type "fastboot flash boot recovery_patched.img" where recovery_patched.img is your file name.
4. Reboot (Might take longer than usual) and open magisk to confirm the the result of actions.
