model c6616? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, I've got an experia Z which I can't figure out how to update to the latest firmware. Right now its showing model C6616, 4.1.2.
any info on what version I have and where I would start with doing an update?

Download a C6603 ftf, then download the flashtool, then dual recovery (incase u wanna root,) and then doomlord easy root method.

He said C6616... first I think we should confirm that OP actually has a C6606 as you've outright assumed here. For all we know he could have some strange C6616 dev unit which will explode if you flash C6603 software on it.
Also, can you even flash C6603 software on the C6606?

The C6616 is just a other north American version that supports att bands and lte bands as well that's it. Nothing else is different. From what I found out.

I can confirm that the C6616 is a Z variant for Bell Canada. They started selling them yesterday. It does has LTE bands so am also wondering if the C6603 roms would work as I have one coming.

root c6616 (6603 tft)
I can confirm this works. I was able to flash over *with a locked boot loader* a c6603 ftf. Going through the carrier settings I'm not quite sure if LTE works... H+ shows up even with "LTE/GSM" PRL automatic selected; and it actually dropped often. Though I think it was due to the signal strength in my basement at the time.
A couple things to note:
You'll lose the HDR option in smart camera
Elements on the screen oddly have a box that disappears after a couple seconds upon waking the device
Navigation Ring to google search fails (probably a bug) it will display an error that you're not connected to the web. (fails OTA and wifi)
Honestly seems a little slower with the kernel change (you'll see elements loading on your lock screen from a cold boot)
Task window right button from the home button acts weird. sliding to close an open/previous app closes the tasker.
no point in going to AOKP, or CM10.2 yet on this device... at least when I received mine it was at 4.2.2 out of the box (Aug. 15. 2013) unless you absolutely need root (sixaxis, supersu, etc.) don't bother. The c6616 will run unsigned apps.

For LTE to work you have to go into the APN settings and manually enter your carriers LTE settings. That's what I had to do on T-Mobile, anyway.

[Q] Rogers/Bell Sony Xperia T (LT30a)

My friend offered to sell me his Xperia T from Rogers, but I'm unsure if it has 1700/AWS for HSPA+ (aka T-Mobile/ Wind Mobile HSPA). Does anyone know if it does for sure?
I know the LT30p Xperia T has that frequency as well as the LT29i Xperia TX.
Because according to the white paper http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/Xperia_T_LTE_WP_1.pdf it does,
The LT30at Xperia TL from AT&T does not have it as stated in the white paper: http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/Xperia_TL_WP_4.pdf
Does anyone know for sure if the LT30a has HSPA AWS/1700? I've also googled around and I've been getting mixed contradicting answers.
Forgot to add in, the Rogers site says it doesn't... Very confusing! http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wire...=normal&productId_Detailed=XPERIATBLK&N=52+11
Thank you!

FYI the service menu on the Rogers LT30a version says that is has UMTS_BC1, UMTS_BC2, UMTS_BC4 and UMTS_BC5, as well as LTE_BC2, LTE_BC4, LTE_BC5 and LTE_BC17.
In other words, the Xperia T w/ LTE from Bell and Rogers do not work with Wind/Mobi..

So are you saying that it works on (3g/4g/HSPA or whatever high speed data NOT EDGE) the 1700 bandwidth for T-mobile and Wind?

I was lucky I had bought my Xperia T from the Sony store and it came unlocked I just had to buy an LTE SIM card to get Fido's LTE network .

[Q] c6602 or c6603?

Hey all.
All the info 'on' my phone says I have the C6603. In settings and also *#*#7378423#*#* shows I have a C6603. I'm on O2 locked. Just connected my phone to PC companion and it said I have a C6602.
I did root my phone last week and installed a ROM or 2, but in the end reverted back to my original firmware via Flash Tool and have been on this since.
Am I missing something?

Searched a lot!!
I've searched in the middle east for the C6603 model but unfortunately it's not available, only the C6602. Any idea if it's existing in the middle east or will it be available sometime in the future?
I guess the only difference between both is the LTE, right?

Difference between C6602 and C6603
Hi,
"The difference between those two only in Data network technology. The C6603 support 4G LTE with three band 3G HSDPA, the C6602 only support five band 3G HSDPA without LTE."
I have Sony Xperia Z C6603 purple bought from Ankara/Turkey. We do not have 4G. But "dual carrier" option form Turkcell and Vodafone.
I have heard, after 4,2 a final 4,22 version will be the final for 4.x.x serie. They will pass 5.x.x after that.
Do anyone hopes or waits for a Windows 8 variant from Sony? Generally after 1 year, Sony makes a slight upgrade but not is OS base. Like first Walkman phone w800 a slightly updated w810 become available in 2006. So I am not waiting a Windows 8 phone from Sony before 2015.
The biggest disadvantage for this phone, it definitely needs a charging dock. USB port, may become loose and allow water, after some time. They must have include it to the retail box, rather than selling it as an option. (coded as DK26 in three color)
The second disadvantage is onboard memory. 16GB is too low. Usable memory left about 10GB! Yes, but gladly we have SD memory slot. I have searched Sony's Japanese site, it says there is support for 64GB for Xperia Z like ZL. Generally this option is marked as 32GB for Xperia Z. This is probably because of, Sony still doesn't produce 64GB SD memory.
Another slight problem comes from cassette tape time. FM reception still needs headphone cord. I am 43 now, this headphone cord for FM necessity comes from +25 years, as far as I know. We have every antenna in the case, but not for this FM radio. I have bored connecting the headphones plugged in for it! Moreover, why not a TV in it? Some countries cut VHF and UHF shortwave TV signals in 2012 like US. But in Europe and Asia, it still is an essential thing. Some kind of very cheap Chinese originated mobile phones, gives you a phone with TV with a telescopic antenna. By the way, my Xperia Z box writes on the box "Made in China" too.:silly:
Well never mind, it is a good phone for now. I will have a try from an inflatable sea bed this summer. If I become successful, I will think, worth buying it!:victory:
They can't just pull out tv without any support
Japanese Tablet Z has a tv antenna but nowhere else (afaik), there's no support.
And for the radio it's probably because it's been replaced by internet services like spotify, nobody uses the radio
Does anyone have any idea about arabic support in C6603?

C6603 with stock FW supports arabic in reading and in input but not available for the UI in the language list

I've find that the audio port is annoying it would be nice from Sony not to cover the port, rather seal it from the inside. So even if water does get in is not goes into the phone. That way we should be able to use it without consequences ... Stupid design, and if you use headset and water (rain) goes in, you lose warranty ... unfortunately..... I working on the repair line.... seen a lots of them. BUT you cannot prove that, and you could say that the cover is not closing properly. So there is a chance that your phone get repaired within sony's warranty. keep that in mind, not all contracted service stations accept that.

About the LTE not working, i guess u should check with your carrier coz i guess you have to apply for it for extra charge per month, or maybe your area doesn't cover LTE.

How To SIM Unlock Samsung Galaxy S4

Edited..
Since lots of ppl already reported that this method doesn't work...
I just read this post in redmondpie..
and I saw the comment and one of them is trying on S4 Sprint..
II really want to try this.. but my wife brought her S4 Sprint with her so I couldn't try this at the moment..
Maybe someone would like to try this out and report this discovery?
so here's the Link:

Be very carefully doing this on sprint S4 it may brick it cause this process only works for ATT- T-Mobile GSM phones only
I also tried it to many times with no luck I wish this worked.

Hello. Some one try to flash radio firmware from verizon sgs4(it has unlocked gsm) ? it work for nexus but vice verca
This method DOES NOT work. Sprint BLOCKS US GSM carriers. To get an international unlock you need to call sprint and ask for one. At this time there is NO way to get US GSM signal on the sprint S4.
EDIT: Apparently this will make your phone unable to connect to a femtocell. Be careful
Do not try this mod. It will mess up your phone and how it connects to the Sprint Airave.

Please let me know how the factory reset works out for you. My phone is officially messed up. My 3g was not working at all. I would only connect LTE. After troubleshooting forever with sprint, my 3G is working again but it is very slow. I also notice that it does not auto roam to Verizon at all.

I've had massive issues with my 3g after this method. The 3g is super slow and I know something is not right. Is there an app that displays the cdma band that the phone is currently operating on? I read somewhere that it screws up the phones ability to access the cdma 850 band.

There is another thread that is similar to this for unlocking the sim. I tried it, and possible messed my phone up. I was getting slow 3g speeds and mobile data drop outs. I fixed my issue by doing a complete factory reset/ clearing NVRAM. This is how I did it:
Dial ##786#
Choose Reset
Enter MSL
Here is the thread I mentioned just in case one of you wants to look at it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683
##786# as far as I know will restore your phone to stock .
##72786# should reset your network settings. Just make sure you are in a working 3G coverage area or have a WiFi connection or it wont re-activate. This method does not put your phone back to stock...just reactivates it on the network.
Sorry for the unusable info...
But i got this news from Sprint Htc One thread, that they are able to unlocked the device by simply rooting the phone and sending a line in terminal...
Is it possible to do this with ours?
thatotherguy.. said:
1. You should be rooted
2. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
3. Run Terminal Emulator
4. Type "su" (excluding quotation marks) and grant it superuser permission
5. Type "am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity" (excluding quotation marks)
6. You will get menu on your HTC
7. In that menu, select "API", then scroll down 'till almost end and select "simlock"
8. Reboot the phone and hopefully it would accept GSM SIM
9. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer
10.In the phone information section(the first one) set preferred network type to something that is GSM specific: "WCDMA Preferred", for example. The phone will switch to GSM mode

Maybe LTE isn't available in your area yet? Also you may want to flash your phones firmware to the latest .534 unbranded version. In that version multiple users have reported seeing a LTE toggle in the settings that isn't present on the .518 firmware that the phone ships with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452814
Just go to page 8 and find my post.
If you're coming from a phone that wasn't LTE capable, you might have to call T-Mobile and tell them to turn it on.
While on AT&T, I had to use a standby iPhone 4 I owned while I was waiting for parts to fix my GNote. Due to physically incompatable SIM cards, I had to go to an AT&T store to get a microSIM for the iPhone. Once my GNote was up and running, I couldn't get LTE because AT&T thought I was still using an iPhone.
I know, long story. But maybe this'll solve your woes.

I got my flashtool from here: http://flashtool.net/

[Q] [C6606 - T-Mobile] Exactly what changes are there if I flash a generic C6603?

Hey everybody, occasional lurker turned user through frustration here.
I'm pretty much fed up with T-Mobile's apathy for Z users, and I'm all ready to jump to a C6603 firmware. Based on what I've read, this is pretty much the only option I have here. My only concern is about Mobile Hotspot. Long story short, my family's poor, and my Z is my only access to the internet at home; for school and such, I've had to use Hotspot and connect with my laptop. (Now the internet issue may change soon, but let's assume it won't for the sake of the discussion.) If I were to make the jump to a generic C6603, would I be able to use mobile hotspot in any particular way? I don't care if that's through T-Mobile or a third party service - there's surely a way, I just want to be sure that it works before making the jump.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can throw my way.
I believe you can. It's the update the
only reason you want to go to a C6603? If you root, then install a recovery manger you can easily flash 4.4.2. That's what I did. Unfortunately the C6606 is not bootloader unlockable.
Edit: my c6606 is running a generic ROM and has hotspot under more just below Xperia connectivity.

I've been using a 6603 ROM almost the entire life of the phone, since T-Mobile USA doesn't provide updates (strange that T-Mobile in other countries are up to date...). No problems. The only thing that doesn't work is WiFi calling, which probably won't be an issue if the Z is your source of internet.
Mobile Hotspot works fine. It is a built in setting on the Z, no need for the T-Mobile app. T-Mobile's network does seem to know you are using it though, and will cut you off at your tethering limit (if you have one). Mine cuts off at 2.5 GB, which is all my plan includes for tethering. My old plan didn't include tethering, and it didn't work at all, even rooted and with various free tethering apps.
Just follow the instructions on this forum to make sure you retain the T-Mobile baseband when you flash the 6603 ROM.

When picking a generic rom, does it matter what country or is there a pure generic rom from Sony that isn't country specific? I see generics for many countries but don't want to flash one if it will install in a different language. Tonight I will make the endeavour to upgrade my phone since T-Mobile won't and just now starting my research on how its done.

I don't think it matters. They all have all languages, I think.
I would gran either commercial or one from your region. Could be subtle differences in the kernel.
