I used my Z about 10 days, everything is ok, except wifi connection. I compare it with xperia TX and iPhone5 in my class room where wifi signal is not good. The result is: wifi signal on TX and iPhone5 is weak but still connect while Xperia Z lost it. so disappointed
Who can help me to fix this problem???

Your school needs to help you, possibly by updating the router software. My wifi signal from my home Netgear router is very strong on the Z. I still get good signal where my old iPhone5 and Xperia S would lose wifi already.

If you're talking about weak signal on some routers, browsers hanging etc. - unfortunately this problem hasn't been completely resolved with 434 update. I think we might need to contact Sony about it because it's very frustrating.
Hint: for now, try setting your router to 802.11G mode. It helped me a lot - seems like XZ is having problems with 802.11N or mixed N/G networks.
I am experiencing bad wifi reception,my router is Netgear N150.Its working fine with my macbook pro ,desktop, galaxy tab2 and ipad4.It was fine with my iphone 5 too.Xperia z is finding it difficult to connect to the same wifi network ,in the same situation. Also if mobile data is kept on occasional shifting between wifi and mobile network occurs.I feel that, wifi reception of xperia z is NOT good.

Hi,
I use only WiFi on mine, and not much problems.
I use the WiFi Alarm app so that if it does get disconnected, I'll beep really loud and alert me to solve it (Otherwise I might not get VOIP calls and not even know I am missing them!)
Like once or twice a day it disconnects for about 0.5 seconds and triggers the alarm, which is annoying, but no major problems. (It reconnects on its own, and it may be the router's fault).
Hello guys,
do you also suffering from low WiFi reception like mentioned on the following sources:
Thread in Official Sony Forum
[...]but the real kicker on the SP is WiFi reception. Abominable, horrifying, atrocious -- all valid words to describe the range at which it'll stay connected. We assume Sony will be able to address this with some kind of future firmware tweak, unless the antennae were lifted from the back of a truck in Shenzhen in 2007. When connected, the signal remains solid, but at 20 feet away from a router with one wall in its path, it's incredible to see it just about maintain a connection.

Summary of Engadget Hands on
It would be great if you could do some comparison of signal strength between Xperia SP and another phone on the same location and post the signal strength of both. You can see signal strength with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
Thank you!
For me the range isnt that important, it's the fact that the wifi suddenly turns off by itself and it wont reconnect even though I was standing beside the router. I had to forget my home wifi then reboot the phone to get it to work again. Sony really needs to work on their software

The range kind of sucks, but the speed is unaffected. Would be nice if it can be improved though. Never got disconnected before.

I faced same problem as javidben. There is no problem with wifi range. I get almost full signal 10 ft away with 2 walls in between.
The problem is random disconnections. When disconnected, the phone remains disconnected from wifi anywhere between 2 mins up to 15 mins, for no apparent reason. When I just visit Wifi settings, it re-connects to the wifi network immediately. Very irritating indeed, having to do this from time to time.
Also, sometimes when I checked on my wifi router, I saw two entries (having same MAC address) for my Xperia SP in the 'connected devices' section. I was thinking this might be a router problem, but my Note 2 connects fine to the same router without any of these issues.
I'm connecting to 802.11n and I haven't experienced any problems with range, disconnects or throughput on my XSP.

I have the exact same problem on my Defy+ running Android 2.3.7. I always thought this is an Android bug. So I think It comes from the power saving function (see Wi-Fi sleep policy) not working properly all the time and is not a device specific problem. Am I right?
On the other hand Sony has implementied its own power saving function (Stamina mode), so I expect this should not happen if Stamina mode is turned on.
Greetings
Benny

I turned on Stamina mode, and tested over a period of 12 hours, using it intermittently, and disconnections are not happening any more
My Note2 is connected to Wifi all the time, but I did not see any disconnections, so looks like it may not be a generic Android problem.
I'll try this stamina mode and post here the result, also Xperiancing wifi dropp off,

I'm trying the stamina mode, too.
Let's hope that this will solve the problem.
But of course, it's wierd that stamina mode can make wifi more stable, because stamina mode auto turns off wifi when phone is in standby mode...

My SGSII and SGSIV have not any problem with the same router. Besides, whether or not I 'd buy a new router, I couldn't ask cafes and other access points change their router just because xperia sp has wifi issues...
I have absolutely no problem with signal strength or deconnection.
I'm using my phone on different routers (home, work, friends, ...), no problem at all.
Xperia SP C5303.
there was a little issue with the wifi network on .211 fw
but upgrading to .284 solved it. now i have full bars everywhere. :good:
For me, I am facing exactly the same problem as some of you. The range sucks, I am only 15 ft (5m) away from my router with a door, and I get 0-1 bars only
Secondly, the WiFi does switch off randomly, but when I go to the settings and check, it connects again.

dams SONY same probleem
my SP laggy and disconnected.
Seems like it's common problem then, I thought it was just me..
The Wi-fi seems to be really wonky on the SP, I've tested it sitting on the stairs beside my router for a while and it fluctuates between full and 2 bars of signal is less than a meter distance..
I've also experienced random disconnects but I think that's something to do with Wi-Fi power saving of some sort turning it off when it doesn't think you're using it.. Even if you're mid conversation with someone on whatever social media site or IM app...
Hopefully it can be fixed by Sony pushing a software update, which if it can I assume will be pushed with the next iteration of Android.

Where can I find .284 fw?
In the sony website says .257 is the latest version for Xperia SP.
And this .284 is a original fw?
Thanks.

It helps I think.
My understanding is that this is the level when the phone decides that wifi is too weak and it should switch to a data signal.
I don’t suffer from range issues – the SP has as good, if not better range than all the other wireless devices in my house. However connecting in the first place can be a right pain.
I had an xperia ray before and it also did what I’m about to describe (but connected more reliably) – in essence when wifi is ‘connecting’ the signal strength will go from excellent/good/fair to poor or even nothing. It fails to connect and I’m told there’s an authentication issue.
This tells me that either my router reduces its wifi signal, or my phone is less able to receive the signal during this stage. As my router is old (6/7 years), I’m inclined to think it’s the router – Sony probably test their devices on more recent hardware.
With these things in mind what this tweak does, is hold on to the wifi signal for longer before switching to a data connection, making connecting to wifi more likely.
In my case after applying this hack the signal still drops whilst ‘connecting/authenticating’ but connects more frequently, and the signal goes back up again once connection is made.
I must also say that wifi problems are not unique to Sony devices and having had a look elsewhere for a solution I discovered that many other phones, from a variety of manufacturers, have similar issues. One of the big US Universities even wrote reports about how the Android OS was at fault for overloading their wireless network with repeated DHCP requests.
Anyway before you apply the tweak try enabling ‘auto IP support’ in advanced wireless settings. Similarly it doesn’t make sense to have ‘avoid poor connections’ enabled.
It does work for me

I changed the file as well. It worked for me, now it doesn't disconnect randomly on weak signals..couple of inches range increased.

Thanks for the answers. I have been testing this fix and i can say it works for me. Where i had 1 weak signal now i have 2 or 1 but a steady one. Now i can move in my house without losing WiFi.
Remember that you can change -100 and test it with more (-300) but I supouse the battery will last less. Otherwise you can change to -90 or -95 if you think WiFi its enough good.
Very good. Saw significant improvement in the areas of the house that I had a problem with the connection before. C5303 on 12.0.A.1.257.
Thanks
