ok, right now im at work and dont have access to ADB at the moment, so im attempting to update my firmware to the new 1.31.651.2, it states that you have to use a USB OTG cable and thumb drive to do this, not from the root of your phone storage. and rename it PN72IMG.zip
my issue is that once i do that, how do you get HBOOT to look for the update? it doesnt do anything it just sits there. can we still update like this or do i have to use ADB to update now?
just doesnt make sense that HTC would change something like that,
thanks for the help guys

So, I'd very much like to get a new hero from my insurance plan, but a while ago I rooted with zroot (I think, it was one of the insta-root programs) and flashed to cm6.1. After reading countless threads on how to unroot without USB support (whole reason why I need to turn my hero in) i've tried time and time again to both HERCIMG.zip files from official RUUs and also that i've downloaded, but none work. All I ever get is the nice quick runthrough as soon as I load up hboot saying no images are found.
Possible issues that I can think of are that they just aren't signed zip files, although i'd think that renaming one wouldnt really screw with that. Otherwise, it seems if I could get my phone to s-off i'd be able to flash one of the many official RUU-obtained files i've created.
If it's any help, my hboot version is 1.47.0000 and my radio is 2.42.02.10.29
And on another note, is it at all possible to use clockworkmod recovery to install the official RUU? Seems I could do that without any issues, but before trying that I want to see if someone has any input.
Thank you in advance!
are you sure that it is the usb port on the phone that is damaged and not the cable? only reason that i mention it is that recently i picked up a new cable (free from my provider) and mine works great now. as it turns out the usb cords are very fragile, the data connection is the first to go, my old cable will still charge the phone fine, but won't work for anything else.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958968
Nah it's not the cable, nor is it my computer. Tried roughly 5 different cables and multiple computers/versions of drivers and sync software. The plastic around the port has a crack, which probably has something to do with it. Not to mention i'm a mechanic by day... Phone gets dirty, dropped and the port definately gets abused, lol. Either way, I'd like to try that but unless i can find a wifi adb console that will stay linked without a fully booted phone I doubt it will help
Actually, let me just ask this, because if the answer is something resembling no, I'm **** outta luck most likely.
Again no matter what HERCIMG.zip I try, none of them ever get recognized by the bootloader. Is this because the zip file itself is not signed, even if i obtained it from an official RUU? If so, I need to be able to get s-off i suppose and I am still unclear on how to do that with my current radio upgrade. Havent found anything supporting it.
Update time! So yeah. I re-flashed amon-ra and after trying damn well near everything i've read or thought of, I ended up re-partitioning my SD card. Lo and behold, I get another hercimg.zip on there and it sees it! Granted, I got main version older error, but i'm going to try the newest ruu ive found and see where it goes. If not, I know there are other ways to deal with that... But i'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
In closing, for this post at least, for anyone else who has issues getting hboot to recognize HERCIMG.zip, flash amon-ra and repartition your sd card. Should work great
its been a very long while since i updated my phone and used to work fine very slow even when over clocked but fine. the only other thing that happend was very rarely it would restart.
but now the screen wont work all time. it does work some times but not alot. works from reseting the phone. also it may be a loose wire tho because bumping the phone seems to fix it but i think it is just luck that it does.
now the phone is geting calls but nothuing is showing only ringing. i cant even place a call.
what i need to know is what is the latest stable build? and how do i get into the recovery again i cant seem into it again?
im tinking of going back to the original 2.1 but i love the 2.2 only programs ah well i also love haveing a working phone more.
if its a hardware issue simply flashing a new rom wouldnt help i suggest reverting back to stock and take it into a sprint tech store and who knows it could be under warranty still and yes if u flash an ruu theres know way they would ever know it was rooted to begin with.
how do i do this. i can not use adb to push anything to the phone adb wont list the phone in the devices
tutorial i am useing is the stickied one.
how do i revert back to stock
dont see a tutorial but im going to search a bit more
this is old 2.27 official ruu exe when you download it plug your phone into a computer via usb and dont put it in disk mode needs to be charge only im pretty sure then on your computer run the ruu exe and itll update everyhting on your phone and please make sure u have a stable usb cord that wont get disconected easily because all the updates should take around 10-15 min after that youll be on the stock sprint software then u can just update everyhting on your phone by pressing menu settings about phone and software updates but please note that once u runn the ruu you will not be rooted anymore but you can still root easily via z4root after u update everything should u feel the need to thats all.
http://www.4shared.com/file/2uQunBaV/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html
thats the download link to the ruu.
thank you the one i was trying wouldnt load in hboot once my phone boots ill try this
yea with this all u need to do is plug your phone into a computer and run the ruu exe and it does everything for you i just couldnt find the right 2.3 ruu but u can still update everything the normal way after this
is there a certain way i connect it because it keeps giving me error 170 usb connection error
edit could it be that i am running 64 bit 7
When it gives you the 170 error with Win7, disconnect and reconnect the usb and re-run the program
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
still no go. i did have an error installing sync because i have a 64 bit 7 OS is there a 64 sync install?
one that works because the one that was suppost to work messed up also
I've got 32-bit, sorry I'm not sure if there is a different procedure for 64-bit
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
Have you tried a different USB cable? Beyond that, way back when I used HTC sync it was on 64 bit windows 7 fine with no issues. I don't even have it installed now and it ruus fine. If a cable doesn't resolve it, then maybe you just need to delete your USB root hub and force it to redetect USB devices
~maybe I set it too high...

This link help me and right now im on the way to updating the phone. thanks everyone who helped ... now hopefully this is going to fix all my problems
have you installed htc hero drivers yet try these out
place them on your desktop then go to devices/printers then click android phone/properties and update drivers dont do an automatic search make sure you choose desktop for the path.

yea phone so far is now working as it should touch screen and calls thanks again
Hi, I have a rooted HTC One running the Google Play Edition ROM (first rooted device) but I stupidly hit the 4.3 OTA update when I got the notification. Apparently this is a big no-no, but I didn't know any better and now my phone can't get past HTC's splash screen. I can still enter bootloader and recovery (CWM 6.0.3.2) but that's about it.
I don't have a ROM on the internal memory, so can't just revert to the previous 4.2.2 and because I can't enter the phone's settings to turn on USB Debugging. The phone does not show up in Windows Explorer, nor in 'adb devices' when I do the usual thing on Command Prompt. The phone shows up in Device Manager under Android USB Devices as 'My HTC' but again, no device will appear in Command Prompt, otherwise I'd adb push a new ROM onto the phone.
I've tried clearing cache, dalvik and so on with zero luck. It's causing me all sorts of grief and I've been pulling out my hair since yesterday. I've heard that an OTG micro-USB cable might help by loading a ROM onto a flash card, but I'm looking at a few days delivery (at least) and would like to get this problem sorted ASAP. If you can help, I'll name my firstborn after you.

I think an RUU for your carrier will do the trick. There are a lot of RUU's posted in the HTC One forums in the various sections, search and find the one for your phone/carrier. Pretty sure that will do the trick!

Hi, I've read up on this option but apparently it unroots my phone and basically returns it to factory settings. This will be my last choice. Thankfully all my photos from a recent trip have been backed up to Dropbox/Drive, but I'd need to root again and jump through all the hoops. I simply want a way to get a new ROM onto the phone to flash it, but neither of my computers are recognising the phone in recovery, with USB debugging off.

Dude, have you a phone that won't get past the splash screen, and you're worried about losing data? If you could get a computer to see the phone, you could push a rom to it in ADB and then sideload it in recovery. If you can't, I think you're left with an RUU I'm afraid.

You can just root/unlock/s-off it after, you've come this far already so you should be familiar with the short process
Flash a ROM using an OTG cable if you have one.

Cheers for the info guys. I think I'll wait till Monday to buy an OTG cable, fingers crossed this will work. In hindsight, I should have kept some ROM on the phone memory or left debugging on. At least now I'll know not to do an OTA update on a rooted phone.
Thanks in advance for helping, i've spent hours searching and did not find anything.
Ill try listing exactly what happened to avoid many questions.
I had my HTC one with an unlocked bootloader and s-off (using revone) with the latest 2.24 firmware. Due to a hardware issue i had to put the phone back to stock and return it.
I used an RUU (RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13.3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe) for this. I used revone to make it S-on again. But i couldn't manage to get it locked again to i returned it unlocked.
After the hardware issue was repaired, i tried to update the phone to latest firmware via adb, it said successful and my bootloader showed it as updated, but when i switched on the phone a black screen with HTC logo in the center and 4 triangles in the corners of the screen showed up.
It wouldn't switch on. After countless tries it finally switched on and in my bootloader it showed the latest firmware and hboot but in my "about" it showed the old firmware. My wifi wouldn't turn on, and my speakers had a cracking sound when used, the phone was hanging alot and i couldnt use it to transfer anything onto the phone. I even tried saving a file via dropbox and it wouldn't save.(i cant transfer a ROM to SD card)
The phone can still be used via adb though.
Is there anything i can do?
SOLVED
I flashed TWRP using all in one toolkit, and ADB sideloaded android rev HD, flashed it and walla everything was good as new
Install a newer ROM.

i just got an email from technocare (the local HTC dealer). They said the mainboard is damaged and need 900dhs (about $225) to repair it.
i immideately rejected. do you guys think it could be a hardware problem? seeing that it happened after a bad RUU flash im guessing it should be software. thanks for the thread will give it a read once i get the phone tomorrow!
You could get one of those USB OTG devices that lets you plug a flash drive into the phone and access it.
I'm thinking about doing the same just to have it on hand because the lack of removable SD card scares me.
I've been in that spot before where the only way I could get my phone to function was by using my PC to put some files on the SD card to use from recovery. Your recovery might also support sideloading which I've never done but I guess it lets you push a ROM straight from the PC into the recovery. I use philz touch and i believe it does both USB OTG and sideloading although i've verified neither.
Recently I flashed something naughty that messed with my boot.img and it broke my wi-fi (wouldn't turn on). I fixed it by doing a selective restore and restoring only /boot from my nandroid backup.

thanks for your reply,
I have a nandroid backup .zip but i don't know how to put it on to my phone because i can't transfer anything to it.
My h-boot is 1.54 so i can't run any RUU's. I can't root because i can't transfer superuser to my SD card so i can't gain S-off.
I don't know what else to try, spent loads of hours over this.
Any other way i can root without needing SD card or an RUU for hboot 1.54?
I can't get those USB otg devices cause they aren't available in my country.
Hi, I have a Verizon Tab S2 9.7 that seems to be having a major USB malfunction... No matter what USB setting I use (mtp, ptp, randis, midi, ext) when i plug in my device to a computer (i have tried 3 diff comps) the computer will not even register anything connected to it. the device will charge no problem but no matter what drivers i have installed or what cable i use it will not show up. It also does not show anything in download (odin) mode, or recovery so i can not even re-flash the stock firmware to try to fix it that way. i asked Verizon if they could get me an update.zip of their latest firmware ota update and was told there was nothing they could do. So I am left in a bind as if anything goes wrong with the tablet other than not being able to transfer files, there is nothing i can do to repair it. It has never been rooted and is on the latest firmware release for its model with a locked bootloader. Im not sure what to do or what my next step should be. I am attempting to root it using kingroot but no luck as i expected. thought it would be a lot easier to fix with root but with the locked bootloader im out of options. Any help is appreciated as this is my main tablet which i use for everything. thank you in advance.
