[Q] Which ROM for Samsung Exhibit for playing MIDI files - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

Hi all, which of the latest and greatest ROMs would you recommend for playing MIDI files with this app (best performance, least lockups, etc)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rardhian.livemidi&hl=en
for the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit?
Thanks!

I posted this a couple of days ago, is this the wrong forum for it?

I tried the demo version and it played a basic MIDI file ok when using the recommended settings from the developer's website, but who knows how well it would work with a more complex file plus soundfonts. The Galaxy Exhibit does not meet the recommended specs. (not a dual core CPU, and only 512MiB of RAM) so I wouldn't expect it to perform well. For a stable ROM, give AOIP a try. I've been running v.1.0 since it came out and have had very few issues.

After all my research, I decided on RebelROM 3.1 and it works flawlessly. I installed the live midi app and it seems to run fine too on there. Couldn't be happier with this ROM.

You should try aoip

[Q] Installing rom

I have a simple question. I can see that there is a method to root the tab...but is it also possible to install a custom rom?
I am very interested in buying a tab...but the stock rom sucks , lag (tested in store). If it is possible I will directly buy one if there is a good custom rom!
not yet. there isn't a custom recovery out, so no chance of a custom rom.

Don't know what you mean by this but I have no lag in my Tab except in the default browser, which I can get around by installing a different browser.

Before we can talk about roms let get the custom recovery done.

Hmm - i've owned and used mine for a week and whilst the default browser is laggy, the UI certainly isn't!
Think my length, depth, and breadth of my experience trumps yours!
I've been using Android equipment since October 2008, and I can certainly say that the Tab offers the best experience thus far.

[Q] Overcome vs CM7

Anyone tried both ROMs, and can provide feedback?
Simple answer - i havent tried CM7, still in Beta.
I'm on overcome now, and I use cm7 on my galaxy s, never tried it on the tab.
But after using both on Samsung devices I would def go for cm7 on ANY device. The customisation options on cm7 are amazing!
I'm not great at this kind of thing and had trouble installing cm7 on my tab, I tried for ages but to no avail.
When it's made a bit easier for my little brain to manage I will try again. Let me know how you get on!

Just my take. I've been using overcome for a while now and love it. Never tried CM7 on the galaxy tab but I helped a friend flash his viewsonic gtab with CM7 yesterday. Here are the main differences from what I can tell.
1. Overcome is specifically deved for the galaxy tab and it works out of box. After you install it, it just works. Whereas CM7 seems to require some tweaking to get it to work. For instance. After installing CM7 on my friends gtab it no longer mounted the internal flash. I had to run a separate fstab script to fix it.
2. I dunno if it's because CM7 is still beta, but, it was buggy. The stock video program did not work at all. It looked like the stock music app with the artist, album, and etc buttons at the top. Which the video app should not have. Also it did not handle videos well.
With all that said I recommend Overcome because it just works. Especially for those who are new to the custom rom scene.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Found overcome easy to flash etc and its nite and day compared to stock gb. Only got into android in november so if u go by the experts guide to the letter u shouldnt go wrong.
havent tried a cm but the guys at overcome are working hard and improving the rom all the time so happy to go with what they provide.
look forward to the big surprise!
Im on cm7, the only thing its missing is video recording, other than that its perfect and stable, i probably wont go back to overcome.
themeing in cm7 is badass and theres so many themes out there, its fast and snappy and you have control over pretty much everything.
Sorry to butt in-What about DiP7 ROM?

Best ICS ROM for X860

Man the X860 is slow compared to my S3, this is the primary device for one of my parent and for them its plenty. But it's slow becoming laggy and outdated and I would like to flash a new ROM tpo make it snappy.
I was hoping for an official CM build, but that does not seem to be the case so can anyone of you recommend a ROM that works will Bell Canada?
Currently using Moto Stock rooted and bloat removed. Also can some one explain this safe strap method, is there no way to flash it like a Samsung or hTC?
Mavrom is pretty good. They probably just need stable and that should do it. And unfortunately we don't have a fully functional ICS yet.

The Best Two GB Roms are:
Eclipse 3.0 - Almost no blur
Mav Rom 4.5 - The best of the blur
The Best ICS Roms are:
CM9 ICS Haschode NON KEXEC - It's fairly stable and quick. There is no hardware acceleration, so youtube gets a little laggy, camera is a hack and doesn't fully embrace the it's hardware, chrome does not work.
The 9/5/2012 CM9 Kexec Rom - Almost as stable. Everything works but Camera. The blutooth has been known to cause issues with phone calls if left on and not connected to a headset. Wifi tether also does not work at this time.
Kexec Roms: http://dl.hash-of-codes.com/ROMs/solana/ note CM10's data does not work stay CM9 for now.
There other ICS roms are great but I don't think have been updated recently.
ahh i see i was hoping for a good ICS by now .
What GB Rom is the best I want lag/bug free as possibly, enough for a daily driver for a 40+ non-techy parent can use.
I was reading on Mavrom and it seem the best and it works with CWM which i am so very used to.
@jesusishere
Thats great ICS list so thanks, but can you please link to ROM threads? The ICS won't work as daily drivers because of Camera issues, everything needs to function Bluetooth could care less for. But video, games, phone/gsm, wifi, camera, internal/external SD etc are a must.
So it seems this phone has to stick to GB.

Go Mav Rom for a non techy parent. It has enough blur to make it easy for someone to use. Also use safestrap. CWM has some issues with the D3. You can follow the latest development on ICS/JB with our main man, hashcode, his twitter.Hashcode. I do not think it will be much longer until he gets the Camera working. After that it's all down hill!
I have XT860 from Bell, Does anyone know how to unlock it ? I want to use it with ROGERS
oh i found unlock code just for $2.3
for best battery life try Maverick Rom, but v4.0. very fast as well.
eclipse 3.0 is faster, but somehow the webdock does not work and battery seems better with mav4.0
my advice: combine it with SSlauncher for a wonderful experience.

Jelly Bean on I9000...why bother?

What are the benefits of installing JB on an i9000?
I'm aware the FM radio on JB doesn't work and some other function too....then, it seems that all the sleek design of the new ROM will slow CPU speed - surely, is it worth bothering to install the latest ROMs on near outdated smartphones like the i9000?
I've stumbled on the JW4 stock and represent a worthy alternative to Gingerbread 2.3 - then for the sleek look I'm considering some themes....
Have I missed some relevant facts about the JB 4.2 on the i9000? Right now, I wouldn't bother.

For as far as I know, Cyanogenmod never really got Project Butter off the ground on Samsung devices running Exynos processors, like the i9000. I'm running 4.1 Cyanogenmod as well, and it does seem a tad more smooth, but I've no idea if that's because of Project Butter, or just the fact that it's a very nice android version.
I've just tested JB 4.2....nice and sleek look but not Swipe and what happened to my external SD? no "My File" is found so I can't search...no wonder when I check Storage on Settings gives me an error. The Camera also seems very limited (have I missed something?).
Exactly as I initially thought....
All this hype to get the latest ROMs are mostly superficial fads with no substance - good only for greedy developers and bored teenagers in search of new trills to impress their mates - nah, I like using Swipe and FM radio (and searching my files) - back to JW4.

Yeah. They came up with a neat intuitive interface with 4.2 but stripped out so many features. Honestly who in the right mind thought it was a great idea to get rid of the timer option. I used the 4.2 camera for about a day before I just rolled back to the 4.1 camera
You're comparing a ROM that's barely even alpha. Try CM10 4.1.2 stable. That will give you a better idea of what cyanogenmod is capable of. And you can still install Swype. I'm using it right now.
And don't be a troll, it's not very nice
CM10 powered by Mackay kernel

So what's the intention of this thread then?
Try Mackay ROM or CM10. Both are stable and fluid and you will be happy with them. But if you don't even know how to install Swype you should probably stick to stock.

Android jelly bean is fantastic because it is faster and smoother. To solve the problem of radio you should download spirit fm radio light that is NOT a streaming app, but uses the FM radio receiver installed by Samsung on Galaxy.

in fact I've bothered to install swype by myself - never had to do before the "upgrade"?
An upgrade should include all the best functions - swype represents in my opinion the best way to input text - go figure why the developers forgot about it.

ok, if the FM radio isn't lost then this might save the bacon...the future is radio via data or podcasting but when traveling abroad it might be useful to use FM radio to save data roaming (and power too).
I've tested 4 new ROMs (in 2 days): aosp, aokp, xbean, cm10 - the camera has lost many functions - still, the Galaxy doesn't even offer a flash - so, no big deal there.
The JW4 I'm using right now seems faster than any of the JB tested, but I agree about the new ROMs being smoother and more stylish.
The DSP on offer might be worth upgrading...
There are too many new functions which are a bit too geeky and many customizations are a bit OTT (reminds me of some linux distros)...so, I might be tempted to opt for Slim Bean (jelly bean without the fat)....still, I'll wait a few months
no videocall facility
I belive the custom Roms not support videocall fascilty, (correct me,If I am wrong). But rest everything is OK in JB Roms.
I have tried more than 4 ROMs including latest 4.2, None of othem having videocall button not integrated with .
But there are improvements in audio & video perfomance compare to Stock GB ROM.

Can JB camera save to external SD? Try saving HD video on limited 8 GB internal storage
U should try "c-rom Mix v8" or "mckay rom build158 or 161,in my opinion its the two best roms available in JB,in McKay's build there is a small difference in smoothness between the two builds..
C-rom v8 is my favorite,its d... good
Just Because...
Because we can. You, good sir, are asking the wrong question..LOL Why wouldn't you want the latest version of android on existing hardware? It is like having the best of both worlds. New Software, same phone.
Imagine putting windows 8 on a 486, and having it run smoothly. That will never happen.... with android on the other hand... okay, perhaps a little exaggeration there, but you get the idea. (Unless you are to young to remember a 486,)
For me personally, it negates the need to buy a $500 - $600 phone, just to have the latest version of software.
I do however, understand your point of view. I hope that I have answered your question thoroughly.
My swype on 4.2.1 works fine. I do have an sdcard 0/1 bug. I consider that perfectly acceptable, in this scenario.
Panorama camera feature is neat. Although it is not something that I can see myself using a whole lot.
Jeremy
I think the choice belongs to everyone to flash JB...or not.
I tried but i'am back on GB with the sauRom V2. The BEST rom ever flashed on my phone ! ! !
I have tried Miui, Cyanogen, Ics, JB...... None of those roms compares to SauRom in my opinion.
Really worth a try ! Smooth, fast, stable, Very good battery life ! !
Since i'am using it, no need to flash anymore !

Simple!
How much longer can our I9000 still be alive with the newest Android version?
That's most peoples reason for keep on flashing - or at least mine
JB drains battery so fast!
My experience, the battery drains so so fast. I tried some ROMS with JB and I went back to ICS.

[Q] Best rom for our SGM

Hello guys,
Greetings from Lithuania. I tried like 10 roms and I did not like any of them, they're just not stable enough, or if it's stable, something isn't working and etc. So I'm guessing if there is any stable roms, with queit everything working, don't care about that native wifi and usb tether or something like that. The rom should have a lot of tweaks, music mostly, I'd like to have good sound quality. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972961 this appears to be perfect, but it's for samsung galaxy mini plus, I tried to install it without knowing it's for plus and almost bricked my honey. I don't know if I was doing something wrong or is it really for plus. So suggest me a good working rom.
I saw some topics like this, but these were old.
Thanks, Linas.
