[q] possibly bricked htc one any hope?? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELLO EVERYONE, I RECENTLY PUT A ROM ON MY HTC ONE AND EVERYTHING I THOUGHT WAS OK (IT RAN FLAWLESS) UNTIL MY BATTERY WENT DEAD SO WHEN I PLUGGED IT UP TO MY CHARGER TO TURN IT ON, IT TAKES ME THROUGH A CONSTANT SERIES OF BOOT LOOPING. I CAN GET TO THE BOOT LOOPING WHICH STOPS THE BOOT LOOPING HOWEVER I CANT GET INTO RECOVERY; I CAN SEE THE CWM RECOVERY MENU FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN CUTS OFF AND START THE BOOT LOOPING PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. IM STICK BECAUSE I CANT GET MY PC TO RECOGNIZE MY PHONE, NOR ACCESS RECOVERY via. CWM SO WHAT DO I DO? MY PHONE WASN'T IN DEBUGGING MODE BEFORE THE BATTERY DIED SO IM OUT OF OPTIONS. IT APPEARS I REALLY MESSED UP HERE, IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO OR AM I JUST STUCK WITH A DUD? IF ANYONE CAN PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE THANKS IN ADVANCE

TAKE YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE CAPS LOCK KEY.
You'll get a lot more help if it doesn't look like you're yelling at everyone.
So you can get to bootloader, but not recovery?
Have you tried refreshing the recovery?

Dont worry, from the looks of it you should be able to go into bootloader, go into the 'Fastboot' plug your phone in, open up Hasson2000 All in one toolkit and from one of the options there is a little option to wipe the cache in his app. wipe the cache then reflash your selected recovery after that, boot into recovery using the option in his kit. or if the phone is honestly crazy messed up, relock and unlock the bootloader so that you have a clean ver sion but you must make sure you are on the STOCK ROM. Please his thanks if it worked

my apologies for the caps lock

Go to the H-Boot screen and it should show that if you push the "home" button to get into recovery. Go into recovery and format system, data, cache, and boot. Then, reflash a new rom or restore a nandroid. I don't know what you were doing to get into the situation that you are/were in.
The H-Boot searches for a HERCIMG.zip (Herc is for Hero CDMA), if you are S-on, I am not sure if you can even RUU or not (there is a thread about fastboot though). You might be able to though, but you are ok as long as you can get into recovery. If you can, follow those steps above (those are for using clockwork recovery) and you should be ok if you were only messing around with folders in the system. In fact, you might not need to wipe anything but just flash a new rom. Why not start fresh though?
Good luck! I would suggest getting S-off, it has saved me time and headaches.
thank you but...

Thank you but that is the problem i am having. i can and have flashed the ruu both threw the sd card and threw fastboot usb.
i can not get into recovery, when in hboot i hit the home button and the phone resets and stays on the first htc screen.
can you install "clockwork recovery" without the phone fully booting ?
or is there a way to get s-off without fully booting the phone

If you can fastboot then adb will work. Just do
Code:
adb flash_image nameofrecovery.file

Did the ruu load when you did it? It should show you all of the images loading on your phone. There should be a recovery image in it too. What recovery were you using when you this happened?

yes the ruu loaded , i wasn't using a recovery when this happened i simply reset my phone after i loaded a new service programming file on it. I have no idea what you mean by "It should show you all of the images loading on your phone." .
ok just to clarify to all people trying to help , flashing a new ruu dose not work, but i thank you all for the help and hope i can get this fixed.
So keep the advice coming
I am having the exact same issue (I think). Randomly in the middle of the night my phone rebooted. Now it only gets to the HTC boot screen and then reboots again.
I tried booting into recovery, but it just goes back to the HTC screen.
I did not recently flash any new ROMs and have been using the same version of CM7 for awhile now. I was using Clockwork recovery. Nothing I do can get past the HTC screen. I tried all the options suggested. I even placed a new recovery image on the sdcard hoping that would work.
Any more ideas?

[Q] HTC One won't turn on. Can't go into recovery or fastboot. Bricked?

I tried searching the threads but couldn't find one with a problem like exactly mine. Sorry if I was a lousy searcher, but here goes:
1 I had TWRP and TrickDroid 5.5.1 installed. Working fine.
2 Downloaded TrickDroid 6.0.1, went into recovery, wiped everything/factory reset etc. and installed the new ROM, rebooted
3 Working fine but there is no root
4 Tried wiping everything again and reflashing the same ROM. Rebooted. Same thing: ROM is working but there's no root
5 Read somewhere that flashing a different kernel might work, so I flashed Bulletproof 1.10 through TWRP. At the end of the installation of the kernel, right before reboot, TWRP said that my root seemed to be broken and asked me if I wanted to fix it. I said yes. As soon as I said yes (by swiping), phone shut off. Now it won't even start so I can't get into recovery. Pressing Volume-down+Power won't get me into fastboot either.
—The only sign of life is this: when I long press the power button, the home and back buttons will blink as long as I continue pressing it. When I release, nothing happens.
—When I plug the phone to PC, it sees it as a "HTC MTP device" and looks for the drivers but fails to find them.
I had never any trouble with flashing ROMs before so I got lazy with time, I don't have any nandroid backup, though since I can't get even into fastboot I guess that's the least of my problems?
Please help; did I really just brick my phone?
Just happened to me too man, I'm not sure what to do! Sorry to hijack your thread, just looking for answers too.

No need to apologize, that's why we're here. Please report back if you can find a solution.
Google told me that HTC's RUU tool could possibly help unbrick it, so I've downloaded the European variant ("RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.1_Radio_4A.13.3227.06_10.27.1127.01_release_308001_signed_2_4"). I fiddled a bit in the Device Manager in my PC and somehow got it to recognize the phone as "My HTC" under "Android ...", then ran the program. HTC logo appeared on the phone's screen so I got excited but after 10 minutes of waiting RUU told me it was the wrong variant and exited. Back to nil. I'm now downloading another variant of the RUU. We'll see if it helps. (I can't for the life of me figure out how to make my PC recognize the phone again though; I'm back to "MTP device, failed to install drivers" phase. Frustrating.)

That doesn't work for me unfortunately, the capacitive buttons just keep on flashing. I can get my PC to recognize it as "HTC Android Interface" but the second RUU failed, too. Glad yours got fixed, though.

Bricked after attempted TrickDroid update
I’m having the same problem.
Attempted to update Trickdroid 6.0.1 to 7.0 last night.
My phone now constantly hangs on the boot screen.
I can get to the fastboot and bootloader menus via long press volume down and power but anything from here simply reboots the phone back to the boot screen.
I’ve tried connecting the phone to the PC and using Fastboot and the One all in one kit but the device is never recognised.
Basically I’ve bricked my phone and need help!!

go to fastboot, use HTC all in one kit by hasoon to flash TWRP, go in twrp, Wipe everything including data, system, cache, dalvik cache, again go on HTC kit and put command of adb sideload, go on TWRP advanced menu and sideload roam. once sideload gets transferred, it will start installing and try different rom like ARHD 10.1
I can't belive it, but the bright light thing actually worked for me!
Thanks!
I was in the same situation with an HTC logo and flashing back and home keys. When I tried volume down + power under a bright light, it came back to life in bootloader. Not sure what the bright light has to do with it but glad it worked.
Bright light solution is from twrp sleep bug.. I read it before.. Good luck

The bright light trick is not a bug, and it has nothing to do with TWRP. It happens because HTC built in a "pocket protection" so that the phone will not reboot on its own in your pocket. The proximity sensor needs light shining on it for a hard reboot to work. (Sometime they're not sensitive enough and it takes a brighter light than you would expect)

New ROM Gone Wrong!

Okay so basically yesterday I got my lovely spanking HTC ONE (m7) and quickly proceeded to downloading the One_All-In-One_Kit, uncloked the bootloader and rooted the phone successfully.
I then proceeded to download ARHD and flash it accordingly, everything went swimmingly, the ROM installed via Aroma as it should, yep all nice and dandy. NO! After the installation, I rebooted, get to the HTC bootscreen, I'm presented with a nice new red message at the bottom and then the phone restarts itself, tries to enter recovery, that doesn't work, then it tries booting up again and does the same thing over and over.
I've flashed the ROM several times and get the same thing each time. I've tried RGUI and get the same sort of thing with that only with RGUI the phone doesn't try rebooting into recovery it just stays on the HTC bootscreen.
I'm desperate for help on this so please, if anyone has any insight it would be highly appreciated.
I hope you're not also flashing any of the custom kernels on here....cos they're not compatible with 4.2.2
Nope not flashing anything else but the ROM itself..
after flashing did you try "fastboot erase cache" ?
sometimes that helps when phones get stuck on the HTC logo after a rom flash.
Use the toolkit to erase cache
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Yeah done that several times too. Can't seem to work out why it isn't working and I too can't find the correct RUU for my device meaning I can't even take it back to stock
try to hold power + volume down to get into the bootloader to get back into recovery. Once in recovery factory reset, erase cache, erase dalvik, and reflash the rom.
also download the andorid SDK for fastboot and adb, then try "adb reboot bootloader" if you can not get back into the bootloader to get into recovery
My friend had his do this loop as well, we had trouble getting it into recovery, but held the button combo of power and vol down several times (probably 10) and it FINALLY booted into the custom Clockwork recovery, then we reflashed and it worked like a charm.
Also try redownloading... it could be a bad download

Just a word of advice. Update your profile to say your country and carrier. It helps people identify which device model and carrier you use.
Thanks for the help so far guys, basically I can get into recovery, that's not the problem, the problem is the phone gets stuck on the HTC screen after the ROM has been installed. I'll try downloading the ROM again when I can, in the hope that it is just a bad download. Hopefully this is the case and re-flashing a newly downloaded ROM will solve all my issues.
I'll post back with the result as and when I can.

[Q] Atrix HD wont boot into anything...

My brother just got an atrix hd from a guy at work. The phone will not boot into normal, recovery, or anything else besides the AP Fastboot mode. in the AP fastboot screen the text says:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
10.9B(*) (sha-2e68372, 2012-11-17 23:3308)
eMMC info: size 8GB
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Boot menu selected
From what my brother knows the guy had the phone in his lunchbox and when he got home from work and tried to turn it on this is what the phone was doing.
Is there something i can try or a way to flash a system image? I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader and installed custom roms on a variety of phones and im sure i can get this phone straightened out if i was just pointed in the right direction. Thanks for any and all the help! its greatly appreciated!!!

Well, firstly, you need to unlock its bootloader IMMEDIATELY then you can try other action (reflash stock roms, etc..). Using Myth Tools is recommended in the post above.
After unlocking bootloader, you can try to download stock firmware from here:
Then flash it with Myth Tools (recommend) or RSDLite
If you satisfy with stock one, just keep it and do further mods or you can flash custom recovery before flashing custom roms.
That's my recommendation but you need to do the FIRST step is Unlocking Bootloader right now
Hope it helps.

I can't even root it, the phone shuts off if disconnected from a charger. And even when on the charger it keeps boot looping.

The boot looping which you mean is going to the fastboot mode, right?
Did you try to enter bootmenu (turn off phone, hold both vol + and vol - then press press powermenu to turn on) and select "normal powerup"?
Can you tell me whether your phone has ATT logo on its screen's bottom?
Maybe flashing back to its correct original firmware by RSDLite can help to bring it back then we can root and unlock bootloader.
But we need to know exactly which is its original firmware before it stucks there.
I've got it fixed...turns out the battery was bad. So luckily I switched it out with an atrix HD with a broken screen we had and it booted right up so I rooted, unlocked the bootloader and flashed the stock logo and a custom ROM. All smiles now! Thanks for everyone's help!

Having a issue with bootlooping, I unlocked the bootloader. I tried to install stock firmware but the phone doesnt even get past the motorola symbol it justs goes blank that tries to boot again. I can get it in to fastboot though. Its ATT version, is there anyway I can fix it?
Did Myth complete the flashing process? Have you tried using RSD lite to flash stock?

Someone in a club that i am in ask if anyone fixed phones, I'm a hobbyist, but very good with hardware and worked on countless ipods, tablets, Iphones, you name it. Some of you guys are like GOD MODE ON but i get buy, and really was just trying to help someone. (i haven't even cashed her check) so i tell her hey 15 bucks a phone i'll change the glass if you buy the parts.. grrr my mistake. i got this atrix hd. all i did was change the digitizer and now it hangs at the at&T screen... i tried RSD and flashed successfully, i tried myth and flashed successfully. i have no idea whats wrong with this POS.. i can get in fast boot and recovery ok. Does this phone need a sim in for first boot? i'm loosing my mind, i can't help but wonder if it's the new chinese digitizer, I wish i could get a system log outta this thing to see how it's hanging up.... any help would be greatly appreciated.

What ROM was on there before you changed the digitizer? Have you tried flashing a custom recovery and a custom ROM?

There's a chance that it could be the digitizer. About a week ago I replaced my Dad's digitizer and I read a crap ton of reviews before purchasing the one I did. Of the bad ones, a few had people complaining about it not working, most were the top 10% of the screen wouldn't respond to touches (like swiping down the nonfiction drawer), and I saw a couple describing your situation.
If you never had a custom rom installed, were rooted, or had the bootloader unlocked before doing this, I doubt that there's anything you can flash that'll fix this. If the bootloader was unlocked before doing this and there was a custom rom installed on the phone, you might have to flash Philz CWM, format the internal sd, and change its mount point to /data/media then format it again. Not changing the internal sd mount point after flashing a fastboot when coming from custom 4.2+ roms causes bootloops.
This is the digitizer I used to fix my Dad's Atrix HD last week. He hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. My Dad is an ass of the highest degree so I'd know with a loud angry voice if there was ANY minor issue with it.

Ok so there are multiple questions to answer here.
#1 i do not recall which rom was on the phone.. although it appears it was the lastest AT&T as RSD re-Flashed it with a pass. I suppose i should have checked but i've never ran in to this situation. I was just changing the glass out.... you remove about 16 screws, pop the glass out and put a new one it...
#2 the customer does not want the phone rooted or moded, just stock
#3 the bootloader is locked and mythtool instructions are saying you have to be in debugging mode to unlock.... thats not gonna happen cause it don't boot..
So does anyone know if this thing needs a sim for a first boot after an actuall battery pull?
Also..
I unplugged the digitizer and tried to boot thinking hey other phones will boot without the digitizer, but same thing... AT&T Screen and it's hung. everything on this board is shielded.. so i doubt it got ESD zapped, and i did take static potective precautions.
I bet this thing would look good with a .45cal hole in it.

#1 That's what I'd assume...and it's 22 screws with fine threading... And if you're getting the AT&T boot logo after a fastboot flash, the bootloader is locked.
#2 Customer's loss
#3 Never actually tested that, but I've never once needed a sim for it to boot up....actually, my first boot ever might have been sim free...been a year now so I'm not really sure.
And I didn't take static precautions.
You didn't accidentally warp or mess up the motherboard on the blow dryer part of the digitizer swap? Or any unnecessary bending on the board with you were prying the screen from it? Those two are the only "dangerous" parts in any Atrix HD repair...unless someone isn't steady with a screwdriver, then there are 46 "dangerous" parts to the repair.
Next time you power up the phone, hold down both volumes and power to access the boot menu. Use volume down to scroll to recovery and volume up to select it. Once in recovery, do a factory reset as well as any cache or dalvik wipes available. If a fastboot flash and all the wipes in stock recovery don't fix it, I'm not really sure what will aside from a new motherboard -- in which case you're better off spending an extra 20-30 and just getting a used Atrix HD like I did....I mean, 50 for just a motherboard or 80 for the all the hardware plus accessories...not really a hard choice seeing as the customer will at least have some backup repair parts in case something bad happens in the future.
Stock recovery is worthless

did the factory reset and delete cache.. stock recovery doesn't give an option for dalvik cache... can you flash phills with a locked bootloader?

The only thing you can flash with a locked bootloader is your stock rom with fastboot. That's it. When locked, if manually flashing all the partitions, flashing with RSD, wiping everything that can be wiped, and you're still not booting, then the phone is either truly bricked or you're not doing something correctly.
The only exception to the above is if something went bad during the OTA and you have some sort of partition mix up, in which case the official fastboot for the OTA might fix it for you -- there isn't a stock fastboot for the OTA yet.

[Q] Sprint HTC One M8

Hey guys, Im fairly new to this stuff, but I got a question or two, it may take me a day to reply so i'll try to put as much info as posible.
Now recently I received the OTA 4.20 (Lolipop) on my phone, so I flashed my stock recovery to download the OTA, making me reroot my phone.
So my phone is re-rooted (after 2 tries) but now it seems like I cant write to my SD card, so I got fed up and went into TWRP recovery and selected wipe data and restore. (Restore point was before I got lolipop) I try to reboot but it takes me as far as HTC One screen. Next I go to recovery and try a factory reset, says its successful, but it lied to me! Still stuck at HTC One screen. So I flash back to stock recovery to try the factory reset with that, it went for a moment, then tried to boot, getting stuck at HTC one screen again, so once more, I flash TWRP to my phone in attempt to get the recovery back, but now I can't load recovery, or boot. So Im stuck there. Is there any advice to what to do from here? I tried command 'fastboot erase cache' thinking that would do something and reflashing the recovery.img but it's still not working. I hope someone can help me.
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.
Stand by
Good luck
The reason you can't write to your SD card isn't because of lollipop, that was actually added but on kit Kat, but the devs went and added a line of code to a file to allow it again. I am currently running my stock rooted, built from decrypted ruu, originally I wasn't able to but I added that one line of code. I believe all you have to do is flash a stock rooted and SD card write should be enabled. As for not being able to get into recovery or boot at all, boot to bootloader and ruu then flash twrp.
Ok so correct me if im doing something wrong, but I flashed the stock recovery in attempt to factory reset it, it wont work, so I flash TWRP with command line (Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) And it's 'successful' but it wont load, it will attempt to load but one second in and it goes back to fastboot, how to I move forward from here?
Edit: so idiot me did it again, I was trying to install M7 version into a m8. Resolved, Now I can enter recovery again.
Alright, so now my only problem is now that it wont boot normally, it freezes at HTC one screen. I have access to TWRP recovery, just not sure what to do next from here.

I actually just unlocked my bootloader yesterday, installed TWRP today, and had what I thought was the same. The thing is, let it sit. Mine sat at the HTC ONE screen for what seemed to be between 5 and 10 minutes. I read that it happens in one of these threads.
But I let it sit and it eventually went to "Android is Upgrading" and was loading the apps.

Ok thanks, I'll post back in 20 minutes with an update.
So i've waited about 20 minutes on the HTC one screen, (Still on it as I post this) It is still stuck on it. I dont know if this helps but im able to view my internal and external card via computer cable, but I only see folders, no files of any kind in any of them..
Edit* I WAS able to read it, now I can't.
I GOT IT! I was able to revert to a backup I made. Even though I gotta flash stock again for OTA but F it! I got it working again. Thanks for all your help!
