Has anybody managed to create a wifi access point with KFHD7? I find it useful for sharing files via ftp. Have tried ES Explorer wireless tools for this, it works if access point is a phone, but not if KFHD7 tries to be the access pont (and later have to restart device to re-enable normal wifi functionality). Using PAC-man ROM.

I suppose this silence means that nobody has been able to create an access point with a KFHD7. Has anybody tried?

Hi all,
Has anyone had luck with the lan connection in File Manager HD, from your Xoom to your PC? I have a shared folder on my PC from which I would like to transfer some pictures to my Xoom. I"m missing something as the connection fails. The permissions on the PC are right, I believe. Do I need to enable an FTP or smb server on my win 7 laptop? I need the abillity for wifi transfers to and from my zoom so any other app recommendations are appreciated.
TIA,
Jim

I don't have problems with SMB transfer from both File Manager HD nor ES File Explorer... usually, the key is the login credentials... you'll probably have to check the settings in your Desk pc (maybe firewall too)... as long they're correct and you're in the same LAN, it should not be a problem
(it could be much faster, but at least it works...)
Now I'm using File Expert on my Zoom and an FTP client on my Win7 machine. I'm still trying to get FM HD to work. I've tried every networking trick I know and that is quite. A few.
I'll post back here as soon as I do.

I am using ES File Manager and the obvious needed checking, IP Address (check), LOGON credentials (I forgot I had to log on to the PC so Username and Password)(check). I have my D:\ shared in Windows so maybe that is the missing link ?
I get a connection and all the folders that show up are empty. The folder names, however, are correct.

I got my new kindle fire HD 7" and tried to install Google Music on it and my old Kindle Fire now that I have both. I got the latest APK's dl.dropbox.com/u/10727706/APKs.zip and followed these instructions jordanhotmann.com/2012/01/install-google-apps-on-your-kindle-fire.html
It worked perfectly on my original Kindle Fire. I was able to get everything to install on my Fire HD, but Gmail and Google Book open and immediately close like they are being shut down by the Amazon OS overlay (or whatever you want to call it that they throw on top of android OS)
I can open music, but w/o the other two programs running it doesn't sync. Anyone have any work arounds or know what is causing it to not work on the new Fire HD?
Thanks,
Carson

It is a permissions issue and can only be resolved by having root access. Sorry, but you have to root to install those items correctly.

Are you saying that is a change in the new HD kindle? Because as you can see, I did it today in my older kindle.

The old Kindle and the new Kindle HD have different OS versions and have different security settings.
So... yes, that is what I am saying.
What's the best/easiest way to access the Kindle from a PC wirelessly?...I read something online about using the Samba app, and having an Android device show up as a storage device in Windows Explorer, but after installing and running Samba on my rooted Kindle, it wasn't showing up anywhere on my PC...anyone using Samba successfully?
The WiFi File Transfer app works fine, but looking for something that will allow drag/drop from Win Explorer
Try
AirDroid

I successfully used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba when developing Kinology after I got tired of constantly plugging and unplugging. It's finicky and slow, but it does work.

so how did you set up Samba?...i installed the app, but what do i do to access the Kindle on the PC?
Es file explorer has no problems connecting to a pc. With airdroid you do things from the pc.
While "playing" around with my rooted Kindle Fire HD, I managed to accidentally deleted the Launcher.apk under system apps. The Kindle would then run most apps but would require navigating the market and searching the said app to open it since there was no launcher. However, the problem started after I rebooted to see if my Apex launcher would automatically come into play after being installed, since launcher was deleted. The Kindle turns on but is stuck at the animated kindlefire startup screen. When removed from battery, it gives off the usual low battery warning, which might be a sign it isn't completely bricked?
ABD is enabled, but the computer no longer picks up the device under the devices folder. It does however give the standard connection sound when a device is connected. Idk.
I am NOT able to order the factory cable at the moment, and i'm looking for suggestions to enable without the factory cable.
I can upload my launcher apk if that helps since I have the kindle fire hd 7

Go over to the kindle fire hd 7" general forum and look for the kindle fire first aide thread. They might be able to help you there. (If you haven't damaged your bootloader)

I have had this since this morning, (Amazon Fire 7") and I can't seem to install the Private Internet Access App as it doesn't connect whenever I hit connect.
I also can't seem to find the manual vpn settings for the device, as it is not where it was on the Kindle Fire HDX 7..
Any fixes or reccommendations?

Did you solve that?
I am also trying to figure out how to set up a connection to my own PPTP VPN.
sd_shadow solution is not an option for that.
Thanks.
