So ive been reading the direction threads to enable sideloading but i was hoping someone could give me some examples of apps that would require this.. I get the reason so root and will be doing that in about 30 sec, but im not sure what id want to install thats not in the app store..
The only reason I would sideload is for the fonts. There is a post in the vibrant forum with 30+ font apks. I didn't enable sideloading on the phone though. I use the sideload application from android central. You don't even have to root for that.

Well for example you can install both the audio boost app and the dpi changer app made I'm the development section. You can install set cpu without buying it from the market...there's many that you will encounter if you follow this forum on your phone and wish you could install without a computer...like I wish I could

after some testing with some rom out there i can say that android market is kinda bugged.
everytime i reboot my phone and i open market, all my apps are gone. Nothing is listed in download page of market. Every time i need to clear market data and restart it. Any fix for it? Can be related to the new directory of /dbdata/databases and not data/data?
thx
I have a similar issue sometimes after installing a new rom....The best way to fix it I have found is to install a new app from the market
This disease is contagious. Even smart and seasoned members can't distinguish Q/A and DEVELOPMENT forum.
*headbang*
It's not a simple question. We need a fix because it's a rom problem.

Went to search for the app on the market on my phone, it wouldn't appear. Searched on my laptop, it appeared... what the hell? Is At&t being stupid again and telling us what we can and cannot download? Woohoo.
Same here!
if you are referring to this happening after flashing a ginger bred rom i just did this myself got same result wtf
i remember an app called market enabler
wunder if it would work on jvh rom like continuum¿

Its because of the fingerprint id that gingerbread changes iirc
Go to the development section, find the gingerbread continuum thread.
Look for the paperclip attachment icon near the thread title and click on it.
There will be a list of attachments inside the thread. The voodoo control apk is somewhere on the attachment list
Download and install or side load
Has to be done on the desktop version of xda
Lmk if you need more help
Swyped from gingerbread powered captivate
What do you mean you can either download and install it or sideload it? That's redundant. Side loading refers to installing any app that wasn't obtained directly through the android market...

its somewhere on that list
I meant sideloading it on because your device id/fingerprint is labellign it as a SGS II and that "hides" voodoo control app in the market
I realize Android veterans already know about this, but I was able to load an application and install it directly from a website without going through the Android or AT&T market - and without installing any special software or making any hacks.
The User's Guide from HTC explains on page 64: Go to Settings - Applications and check the Unknown Sources checkbox. Respond Yes to the warning message. Then I went to the website and downloaded the apk file. Notifications showed the file. I just tapped on it and responded to the message about installing it. A couple of seconds later the program was running.
I realize this does not address situations where someone wants to do some hardcore rooting. But it does mean that non-market apps are not locked out from being used.
For a while now Att have allowed us to install apks from unknown sources. I remember when they made a silent update for the inspire.

Every Android that has been released since the Samsung Infuse has had the ability to install apps from Unknown Sources. The Atrix, Inspire and Captivate were updated to allow Unknown Source installations.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm new to Android, but I recalled seeing some posts about AT&T rerstricting non-market downloads. I'm glad it's no longer an issue.
Yep. as the owner of at&t's 1st Android, I never got said update, or even past Eclair. But it's ok. I've been rooted and rommed for a while now.
sorry if this has already been asked, but is it not possible to open and use the normal android market and gmail apps? also without the market how am i meant to get other apps?
thanks, Tom.
completely didnt see the thread below...
