Ubuntu Touch - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Now that we are able to get CM 10.1 (unofficial) onto the HTC Vivid, would it be possible to port Ubuntu Touch to the Vivid, or is the hardware on the Vivid not compatible to even run Ubuntu touch?
Ubuntu Touch seems to be the only reason I would even consider buying a Nexus tablet or upgrading my phone, because I'm pleased with how the Vivid runs, but I'm also dying to see Ubuntu Touch in action (of course, not all of it would work correctly).
If anyone can get back to me on this, that would be great.
--I also read another post that is similar to this, but at the time it was posted CM 10.1 wasn't available for the Vivid and it hasn't been updated or even asked since CM 10.1 became available.

Ubuntu Touch would be a nice little thing to have on the Vivid but porting that might take some work.

I might try it when I have got time but right now most of the devs are focused on bringing CM10.2 first to the HTC Sensation and then to the HTC Vivid.

I really hope 10.2 for the vivid comes to fruition. It will give me an excuse to not upgrade my phone for a few months longer and save me some dinero.

[Q] Cyanogen Mod 9 ?

Hello everyone, I've a little question for you ? I'm wondering when Cyanogen Mod Team will release 9th version of it ? I'm a bit confused, I check daily Twitter/Cyanogen site.. But nothing.
If Anyone can tell me
Ps; Sorry if this post exists yet :/
Nobody actually knows. On the cyanogen site they have a rule that you don't ask for ETA because they do it for free etc. Its ready when it's ready they say.
So guess we shall have to wait and see

Alright, We can just wait.. wait and wait ^^
Indeed. There are some beta versions out people have created. Look in the other sections of the incredible s forum. But a few of them have bugs e.g camera not compatible.

No CM9 as of yet, but this may help quench your thirst until then:

I know that there are two roms that are working. One of them are almost completly working except camera and video playback
Cyanogenmod 9
Unfortunately htc has not released it's drivers voor the Inc S, so it is very hard to fix the camera.. Hope the get it soon!! I'll guess the are working hard on it!!
Who is the dev for CM9 that owns the Incredible S?
They keep adding to the list of "included in next update" on the nightlies page. It's definitely coming for IncS.

I do agree and I have been playing a lot with this ROM. However the camera issue is related to HTC. They didn't release the source code of the camera drivers yet.
I downgraded to CM 7, last nightly build. I was missing my camera, I paid for it

CM9 is a long way off. There was a post just recently on Google Plus about the way they're trying to work in the options. This is why the tree is still at early alphas. Yes it's ICS, but it's lacking much of the nuances that would make it CyanogenMod including most of the options that we've come to know and love. I'd be surprised if we saw CM9 nightlies for the IncS before late February/early April.

I don't think its that they need to see how much we want it...the problem isn't whether or not we want it, the problem is actually building it...the devs can't even get a good cm9 out thanks to HTC...but cm10??? That's even more work...that requires completly modifying the kernel to boot JB, then there's the problem of getting things to work like the rils...
It's not impossible, its just hard and idk if any of the devs wanna take the challenge...
(Although as a little incentive I'd donate some cash to a dev if they can get us cm10 )

How exactly are we to vote? I would love to see JB on the Vivid. As far as I'm concerned the Vivid is the last good phone because I hate the idea of no removable battery or memory. I don't plan to change devices for a LONG time so I would love to see this device stay current...

CM10 Development

I am thinking of selling my Velocity, not that I really want to love the thing, however the security restraints and general hard to develop nature of this device is turning me off HTC.
So get to the point you ask
Just putting it out there its not a request, demand by any means I just wanna know if there is anything CM10 in the pipe line due for release soon or is it to hard because of the bad HTC code and security.
I would like to keep the Velocity but there are easier devices out there.
Anything cm10 wise will be at tootz, which you know is on hold...don't think anyone here is really building from source...maybe in the future I may give it a try...but idk

Sounds like a good idea...I've never attempted to build from source, but I have a guy in the infuse section that's gonna walk me through it, gonna get a new 1tb hard drive on Sunday...500gb for windows and 500gb for ubuntu-that should give me plenty of room for building from source as I hear it takes like 20gb just for one build...once I get started ill be happy to help you
What little knowledge I have is decompiling apks and doing minor edits to xml and smali files (for tweaks) unfortunately none of that knowledge does me any good here on the vivid as I can't seem to get apktool to work with the vivid :/

Not a good idea man. HTC has gone too far with locking things down, but Samsung has started on that path. They locked down the Verizon GS3 (it's been cracked, but still) and people are having huge issues with flashing. Many of the dual core GS3's are losing their IMEI after flashing. The grass doesn't look much greener on the other side anymore.

I'm going to see how I like mine by Christmas time, in which I'm buying a Nexus if I don't like it by then. It's not just htc for me it's nexus or nothing from now on. We have a pretty common chipset, we should have a development forum filled with aosp and aokp roms but we don't? Why? Because security is off the chain. It's a taste of things to come honestly. By next year look for android phones to be completely locked down with almost no updates anymore. They are becoming the new feature phones.
But HTCs s thing is ridiculous. It's another hurdle that doesn't exist on every other manufacturer. My captivate was completely unlocked from the factory, rooting took 5 minutes and you kept your data.

[Q] 4.2 for vivid?

I Know it might be early yet. But is there any talk about 4.2 on the vivid?
I started working on slimbean (which is 4.2) almost got a build finished but just been busy the past couple of weeks so I haven't touched that project
All in all from what I've seen there really isn't much source change from 4.1.2 to 4.2, so it shouldn't be to hard for someone with time to get it for us using h8s sources...just a few hardware things will need to be tweaked as cyanogenmod doesn't officially support any msm8660 device for 4.2 that I know of...there are however unofficial builds and we can use their hardware sources
I have a 5 day weekend so I may take a look at that project again...I'll probably start from scratch since its been so long I don't remember where I left off lol

I have a 5 day weekend so I may take a look at that project again...I'll probably start from scratch since its been so long I don't remember where I left off lol

yeah slim has always been my favorite...light weight and full of features...ill see what i can get done today before i go to work...gotta get my linux booting up again (lost grub cause i had to re install windows)
it may be 4.2 but 95% of the work has already been done by h8rift/homeslice/all others who worked on cm10/jb...all i really have to do is figure out what needs to be added to the slim source to get it to build...then we trouble shoot from there
Edit...I think I've got everything set up and am currently running a build on my dinosaur computer...only time will tell from here
Edit2: its 3:40pm pacific time...its still building, is say about 70% done...unfortunately I have to go to work...I get off at 7 so hopefully there are no errors while I'm at work and I come home to a finished build...ill update you guys later
Edit3: got home from work...build error :/ its friday, im gonna go to my friends house...if any one wants to help me out here is the build error http://pastebin.com/XNPsT75K otherwise ill (hopefully) pick it back up tomorrow - good news is that it is towards the end of the build process, so im thinking this may be our one and only build error
edit4: dastin1015 pointed me to this fix https://github.com/Team-Hydra/android_frameworks_native/commit/8ff28b656e1708232a422012cfaef82398e82bb6 gonna give it a try before i leave for the night...keep those fingers crossed

Patience is virtue...I never give out etas as people get mad when you don't meet them. It will be like any other Rom...soff is preferred but son users can fastboot flash the kernel and be good to go

CM 10.1?

So I'm just curious, is there anyone taking on the Cyanogenmod 10.1 task for the HTC First? I'm not seeing a lot about it and just wanted to ask. Thanks!

I second this. I would happily support this effort via guinea pigging and beer money.

I second this as well. Thanks for bringing this up.
We've got at least one phenomenal dev (Jmz) working on this phone, so I would expect to see CM at some point. The kernel was just released, and prior to that, there wasn't much that could be done other than the stock rom. Despite that, he gave us Sense 4+. I don't want to speak for him, and certainly voicing a request is the best way to show interest, but I'd say be patient.
All that said, I cannot wait for CM!

Partially I agree, but partially I don't. He said in the thread for his Sense 4+ ROM that he's currently working on another big app project and that he doesn't have the First as a priority. That's what I gathered at least, but I'm still thankful there's something out there and that he's put the time in

Just because its not a priority doesn't mean he's dropped it.
