Hey guys,
I'm new to android.. good riddance iPhone. I am a technically saavy I/T Guy and have already unrooted my captivate and figured out GPS and whatnot. However, I have scoured Google and can't find the answer to a simple question. "Do I need to unroot prior to the OTA JH7 update?"
Thanks for your help,
Trums

i dont think you'll need to unroot the phone but I *think* you'll lose your root once you update....please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

This is correct. All the apps will be there except superuser and the root will be gone.
I did this myself and after the update went ahead and wiped the phone (factory reset) anyway. I wanted to make sure I didn't have anything lingering..
thanks

Do you have still have the 12 MB file you got as a result of the OTA update. If so, can you upload it.

+1, please upload if available. I dont know why att just doesnt let us download it from the website.
sorry gents.. I don't have the file yet.. will upload when I get it.
You can always re-root afterwards...
Does the original root method work with jh7? I'm not really interested in the super rooter type all-in-ones.

the update is simply JH7, JH7 has been available for most of us for over a week
grab it from samfirmware if you really want it now

That's where I got mine.. www.samfirmware.com
you will have to sign up for an account but its worth it.
You will have to flash using ODIN. Make sure you get the PIT file located at the bottom of the firmware page too..
Plus once you have the account, you can always flash newer firmwares when they come out...
I know about the leaked JH7. I am running it now. I am only interested in the official JH7 update file, just to compare the two versions.

I am not sure what happened but I just downloaded the update using the check for updates on the phone, it started to install, rebooted the phone then gave me this message:
"The update was not completed.
No update was applied to your phone"
my phone is rooted, lag fix, side load and I did not try to undo any of that stuff.

The same thing happened to me, but when I go my phone settings I show the following:
Baseband version:
1897UCJH7
So do we have to flash back to stock to get this upgrade?
I wasn't too hopeful that our rooted, lagfix-ed phones would play nice with the OTA anyway.

weird, mine still says I897UCJH2
I would like to find out what I need to undo or change (hopefully not reflash) to get the update to install.
I updated my N1 from FRG83 to FRG83d manually few days ago and wondering if I can downgrade to FRG83 or even FRF91? There is not much to it than I just like to get the firmware downloaded through OTA. Just curious!
Thanks in advance!

I have a stock N1, but since 2.2 backs up all my apps and reinstalls, I am not worried much. But will I just be able to download the zip file rename as update.zip and install manually? Also, will I get all the Google services along with the zip file?
Thanks for the response.
Try the FRG33 passimg from shipped-roms.

Strange. Which one did you use? Try this one: http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/signed-passion-img-FRG83_0923.zip
Maybe try renaming it as update.zip instead of PASSIMG.zip.
If that doesn't work, I'll give you another suggestion.

Yes, that's the one I used! And please don't get me wrong but I use this phone for my work and is important that I don't screw the phone. Is there a tested solution to downgrade? So I can follow steps without damaging the phone?
Check it's not a zip within a zip
Edit: I can give you a 100% tested (by me) downgrade solution. Unlock the bootloader, download FRF91 from http://developer.htc.com and use fastboot to flash system.img and boot.img

You will certainly not damage your phone by doing that, so don't worry. Rename it to update.zip and try again.

Best Buy (Samsung) doesn't have the KitKat files yet. I went to my local BB store and they told me that didn't have the official file yet. Also, AT&T will not flash your phone either. I tried that one, too.

I was notified of a system update on my tablet today. Got it downloaded and started the update. About a third of the way through, the little android fellow keels over, dead, with the dreaded red exclamation.... Error. Tried the update a few times, all with the same result.
Anyone else having this problem with this update? Any suggestions?
I have to laugh every time I see the dead android... it's just a perfect icon for the situation.

You have to flash the stock recovery back and make sure all the bloatware that came with the rom is installed and not frozen.
The best way to go about this would be probably to flash sbdag's stock rooted rom, then flash the stock recovery from Droidbasement, then manually flash the firmware which you get from Asus downloads.
Not worth the trouble IMHO....

Download the firmware from Asus, unzip it once and copy that file to the root of your internal SD. You may have to reboot for the system to find it, but with stock recovery installed it should give you a notification.
That's how I remember it, but there was a lot of trouble for users trying to flash back to stock with the 4.2/4.3 update - don't quite remember, but I think those got solved when Droidbasement provided the flashable stock recovery.

Original problem ... solved.
My original post of the system update not "taking", has been solved.
I got the update from the Asus site, and manually updated my tablet. Thankfully, the little Android guy did not die this time.
Got this OTA after doing an ODIN of EPF1 to my phone. Baseband is updated to match, unsure about bootloader but I doubt it. If someone wants a ROM dump and is willing to tell me how....
I got this update pushed to me also.
Question for anyone who knows: If you flash this do you lose the ability to install custom low level software (firmware, recoveries, etc)?

It's possible, our S6 won't get locked on any 6.0 firmware's
Maybe on 7.0 if we get it. but not 6.0
And for clarification EPH2 was just security fixes.. everything else is still the same.

I'm downloading the complete TAR image from Sammobile, but due to finances I don't have the means to pay for the full speed..
So I'm downloading at the slow method.. If someone else has not uploaded the image, I will upload it by late tonite..
I'm still having issues with the damn Upload it gives me last second errors when I step away to do another task..
I'm making my final attempt to upload it onto my Android File Host... It should be up by morning if it uploads correctly.. Just Look For Zaphodspeaks in Android File Host if I haven't posted it yet..
I have many tasks to do this week ends.. Mainly upkeep the the old house and updating some of the old wiring while its getting cooler..
Finally, I uploaded the Image.. I had to recompress it since it kept giving me errors at the very end, just unzip and install in ODIN
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24651430732237823
Got my phone rooted, custom rom, and kernel that I was using before, no problem.
Last night (9/27) I got a firmware update for my factory USA unlocked 920T. Sammobile shows it was released on 9/26. It was a 50MB file that updated the Android secruity patch date to Sept. 1. No other changes. I noticed the Samsung Smart Manager app/widget shows I'm using 5% less memory now. I don't know if it's better RAM management or Samsung modified the app/widget to show different figures LOL. I suspect the t-mobile 920T will get the update soon.
