Hello and apologies if this has been answered, and for being a huge noob. I searched for quite a while for similar cases.
Question: Does anyone know of any problems / successes with Xperia T and Japanese networks (prepaid sim cards such as b-mobile)? Will it "just work"?
The Bumf:
I'm staying in Japan for at least 6 months, and I've brought my Xperia T (LT30p), bought outright (unlocked) in the UK. I've been using a giffgaff SIM.
I'm not sure if the Japanese prepaid sim cards, such as b-mobile, will work in my phone. I don't want to fork out for one until I verify they can. I have reservations after trying a friend's Docomo sim in my phone, and I failing to get 3G, although I did seem to be able to connect to the Docomo network. B-mobile also uses Docomo, apparently. I can also use Softbank through my giffgaff sim (for crazy fees).
Android: stock 4.1.2 from Sony
Many thanks for your time!
Still not found much info on this.. bump? :fingers-crossed:

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking to buy an HTC Diamond over eBay, and have question about SM unlocking in my mind:
- Do I need to have a SIM card, which the device currently locked in, to unlock it or is it possible to execute the unlocking software without a SIM card installed?
They usually sell phones re-branded and locked to a specific network, and not every network operator works in my country. For example, if I buy a phone locked to Orange, it will be impossible for me to unlock it, if I need to run the unlocking software while an Orange SIM is inserted.
Thanks in advance.
Well I'm not completely sure that you need the sim to unlock it, but what I am sure about is that if you buy the HTC Diamond (not the T-mobile version, or whatever other carrier offers it) it will come unlocked. HTC simply makes the phones and if you buy one of their versions it will be unlocked as a standard.
Hopefully I helped answered your question instead of wasting time for both of us
every phone i have had to have unlocked can be done without any sim card in it
Thanks for your replies and sorry for a late response.
I have already bought my phone and waiting for its arrival. It is an Orange branded device, which is unlocked with a software obtained from unlock-htc.com, according to the seller. So, my problem with the SIM unlock seems solved
I think the bigger question is, once you get it unlock can it be used with AT&T or T-mobile 3G frequency.

We don't have those network operators here in Turkey. In fact, we don't have any 3G network operator at all
If we think that people are discussing about 4G technologies like LTE in north America and Europe, we can easily say that cellular network providers are evolving very slow in Turkey I don't think I will have problems with our current old school GSM providers with a SIM unlocked device.
I have to wait and see of course, I will let you know the results.
Is it possible to hack an American Captivate to use European SIM cards? Specifically a prepaid card from Poland.
My wife is planning a trip there and was curious if she could avoid toting around both a cheapo prepaid phone, for the phone function, and her Captivate, for everything else. Her phone already has CM7 on it, but could be changed if needed.

Unlock it. It's a one time thing. Then you can use any sim card in it. SGS Unlocker from the market should work. I've never used CM, but unlocked mine while on Cognition 4.5.3
I am using one in India, I hope u can also use one there.

just search some pages and u can unlock ur cappy urself..i got it from canada 6 months back to india..and unlocked it myself..
its not a hard process...and then check another service provider's sim card to check if the process was successful or not...
Root
Download galaxy s unlock from the market
Run it
Enter this code in your dialer:
*#7465625#
If it says all the locks are off then you're unlocked
I'm heading to the UK at the end of the month. I'll be in both England & Wales. I've used Galaxy_S Unlock from the market successfully... Now my question is: which SIM to buy? I've (obv) never done this before, & there are apparently a plethora of choices. Is the Captivate limited to a specific UK carrier?
*Edit - also, will I need to use a specific carrier's SIM to get 3G? Or will I be able to get 3G at all?
That all depends on what bandwidths the carrier use. You should be able to at least connect to a network with any Sim. But I believe 3g requires 850 and 1900 mhz bands. Which is why you can't get 3g on Tmobile even in the states.
OK, so I need to find out if there's a UK carrier that uses those bands. I need both, correct?
Either one would work, but both is recommended.
If it only has one and the signal gets weak and it tries to hand off to the other you'll lose 3g until you get into a better area.
Hello,
I have a quick question about a Nexus One I got with Vidéotron (a Canadian Carrier - I believe it is compatible with the T-Mobile network).
I am going on a trip to Los Angeles and was thinking of picking up a local prepaid sim card and just swapping it with my Videotron card (will be using a yak calling card for long distance).
Will this work? Do I need a special code to get the phone to accept the card?
Aside from using google talk or similar computer based alternatives, does anyone have a better suggestion (cost-effective!) for using my Nexus One in LA without getting dinged with roaming?
Thank you in advance!
Yes you can get T-Mo 3g http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands .
Was the phone sold as unlocked? I know the ones sold in the US were but I am unsure about the carrier branded phones. The best thing to do is get a local SIM from another carrier and test it out before you go. I'm sure they are able to give you an unlock code if you just call them.
I believe the answer to this is "no", but:
I have access to an AT&T SM-G900A that is not being used. My daughter is about to move to Germany for an extended period.
First, can the phone be used in Europe at all?
I certainly wouldn't want to pay AT&T's probably-exorbitant rates, so then: can we buy a SIM card there to use in it as is? (pretty sure the answer is "no")
If I unlocked the phone (by buying an unlock code), could it then be used with a Europe-purchased SIM card?
I suspect this is all more trouble than it's worth and I'm better of just finding a used unlocked GSM phone of some sort.
Much thanks.
if you can use it abroad unless you unlock it first.
I have a galaxy s5 att and I am using it with another carrier here in south america.
only bad thing is that the wifi hotspot will not work for being a simcard from another operator, only work by usb tether.
It's working well. I bought an AT&T Galaxy S5 from USA and now I use it in Romania.
The WiFi hotspot is not working, but all the other features work very well.
Probably, after the bootloader will be cracked and we will have the opportunity to install a custom rom or an unbranded rom, the hotspot will function as well.
Enjoy your gadget !
All answers are correct. I was formerly in the U.S.Army and took an old T-Mobile HTC Dream over to Kuwait with me. I called T-MO and got a sim unlock code for free. Upon getting overseas I established service with a GSM carrier over there and popped in my sim card and whallaa! My phone completely worked in Europe and the middle east.

In Canada, if you buy one from a carrier, it is network locked, you could get it unlocked though. I am certain the ones from Google are not.
Just ruled network locking out, by trying my wife's EE SIM card in the N6 which got full signal 4g.
Must be a new sim activation issue, so back on the phone to customer bleeding services again.
