[Q] htc one root to google editon noob - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have an htc one from o2. I want to root it to google edition. Iam a noob at this so can someone show me the way or links to a tutorial please.
Is it worth doing? whats the advantages of a rooted phone? sorry for the questions but i have come from iphone to android so iam new to all this.
thanks

My advice is keep studying, install the sdk and get good at adb and comfortable! Once you're ready and able use a guide for your phone and read it a couple times before you start. Most importantly don't stop any operations you attempt in mid stream follow through and don't reboot until you know it's all good. Hope it's as fun for you as it was for me.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4

thanks for that, but that means nothing to me.Whats the advantages etc. Is it worth it. i can follow tutorials etc. just need to know what the best guide is etc

If you don't know what the advantages of a rooted phone are and what root means, why are you trying to do it? To be honest I don't even understand your post - do you want to root your rom, have a rooted google edition rom or fully convert to a google edition phone?

sorry for the confusion. Like i say im new to this.
I dont know the difference, i know rooting that you can put custom roms on it, but whats the difference and best, do fully make it google edition or put a custom rom on?

First off, you don't need to be rooted to flash a custom rom - all you need is a custom recovery after you unlock your bootloader. A good guide for noobs to read is the one by mike1986 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
If I were you, I'd stick to just flashing a google edition rom to see if you like it, rather than doing a full conversion. This way you can easily get back to stock. This rom is 4.3 Google edition and already rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341395
Read the guide above carefully though. Especially the parts about backing up stock, or you'll be back here later asking for help..

Hi all,
Just got my HTC One, new to Android from iphone 5, I have just rooted my phone and was watching this video
HTC One - HTC Logo Button Hack & How To
I cant post the link as it wont let me, which I find really stupid!
This chap talks about flashing a kernel, how does one do this? and would this be ok on a UK phone?
Thanks for your help
You have to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and flash a kernel that support this mod...
If you don't know how to, is better do anything...
Better flash a 4.2.2 Sense 5 rom.

I have unlocked boot loader and rooted I just don't understand the meaning of flashing and how one does it, I want to install the kernel that makes the htc logo into a button.
I notice in google play there is a rom manager app, would that make things easier ?

Hey man if you go into development section you will see ElementalX kernal thats whst your looking for. I suggest you go on YouTube and watch a few vids about flashing ROMs etc and remember to always backup before flashing anything. I also suggest you flash a ROM such as TrickDroid as that is compatible with said Kernal

Thanks, I decided to grow a pair and just try it and it was very easy, but i do have a couple of questions, every time you flash a new kernel you have to setup the phone from scratch and re install all apps again? No easier way of doing this?
I was also hoping that this was going to remove the branding on the bootup of the phone but it didnt, and tips on how to remove the branding?
If you're only flashing a kernel it shouldn't let you setup the phone from scratch. Unless of course you're flashing a whole ROM in which should address your other concern about removing the branding.

Well I assume its a kernel that I have flashed as I still have the branding, but I also get asked to do a complete setup as if I has just got it out of the box

You must have clicked the factory reset button or any wipe buttons in the recovery. Or the kernel developer must have badly coded the updater-script and enforced a factory reset everytime anyone installs his kernel. Which is not necessary really.
should the branding still be there tho?
Can somebody share the link of the latest RUU 2.17.401.1 please..

Guess not then! Can someone tell me how to remove the branding from the bootup?
Many thanks

[Q] HTC One UK Three Mobile.

Hi all, This is my first post so please be gentle!!
I have searched the forums but dont really know too much about what I need so please forgive me if im going over old ground.
Basically Im sick of waiting for the OTA 4.2.2 update of my HTC One from 3UK.:crying: As everyone else is getting their update 3UK have changed their tune numerous times about weather the update has been pulled, Is in testing, Is being rolled out or now low and behold its back in testing again. They never give a straight answer and after tweeting them someone else has reccomended changing my CID? to allow me to ge the update.
I have been reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317536 and I was wondering if this is indeed what I need to do. If I follow the instructions in this thread I understand it changes the CID on my phone, but how do I then go about getting the 4.2.2 update?
Where would I get it from and would that affect any future OTA updates. I dont want to root the phone as Im quite happy with Sense 5 I just want to be able to get the 4.2.2 update without having to wait for three to push it.
So basically can I use the procedure in the link above to change my CID. And after doing this where do I then get the update from. Do I then just check for updates??
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Regards,
Chris.

Use Revone to s-off and unlock, change CID from H3G__001 to HTC__001, flash the unbranded RUU, updates will appear when available on your device.
Use search for all of the above, unless someone else wants to give you the links..

Thanks so much. Thats pretty much what I needed. So as I know that 4.2.2 is available on my HTC one, once I have done all of the above, I check for updates and it should download?
Don't expect any help on here mate.
I'm in the same position as you.
The reason why Three are taking long is because they're loading it with their logos and bloatware.
Let me know how you get on.
Will let you try it first, will then try it on mine

Don't expect any help? This site is full of people helping - for free. The reason people sometimes don't answer is because they see and answer the same questions every day. Everything you both need is in my post above. As well as in about 10+ other tutorial threads if you would bother using the search at the top of the page..

My mum's a GP, if she ignored all the people who came in asking her the same questions every day, she'd be out of a job and would have some pretty sick patients
OP I appreciate you're new but you could have found the answer to your question yourself without posting this. You won't get any carrier updates from 3 until 3 release them, even if you have superbloodyunicornCID, isn't that obvious? All superCID does is allow you to bypass regional ROM restrictions. The only way you're going to get 4.2.2 before three release it is by unlocking your bootloader and flashing a stock 4.2.2 ROM. All you'll probably do messing about with your CID is brick your phone, and then you'll have to spam the forums more.

Hi. You will have to change your CID and whilst doing anything of this nature carries a risk, it's a very low one.
I too was stock brand with 3. Follow one of the many video guides to use revone and get s-off as suggested above. Then download the stock wwe (world wide English) RUU and follow the on-screen instructions. The one I used was a standard 1.28 version. Again, use one of the great guides on here to download adb and change your CID to htc__001. Bear in mind there are 2 underscores there. You're phone will then see a small update and then again will recognise the 4.2.2 update.
That's if you want everything official. Mike1986 has a great guide on all this as does vomer in the android development thread.
If you want to run a Rom using 4.2.2 then it's just as simple, I personally was using mike1986's android revolution.
It all sounds daunting but take your time and follow the guides and you will be fine. It's very difficult to brick these phones.
Always make a nandroid backup before doing anything just in case.

[Q] Hello people! Little help would be thankful

Yes, I need a guide. I used SGH-I337 (AT&T Galaxy S4) with Foxhound ROM and got a new HTC One. Since everything is so different, I need help. I looked around this forum for two days but I still can't understand the anything. I got this T-mobile HTC One 4.4.2 and the phone is basically pure stock. I have no idea about anything, so i'd like to get a straight, step-by-step guide to flash Venom One 4.4.2 ROM. I went to T-mobile HTC One forum, but there weren't so much activities and i ended up asking for help here. Also, an unbrick method will be very helpful just in case. If someone could help me step by step, it will be very thankful. I don't mean to bother people by not reading and asking first, but it is so hard for me to understand.

Read here first mate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45432325&postcount=2
Basically 3 steps to flashing custom roms...
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Install Custom Recovery (I use TWRP)
3. Flash Custom Rom.
How to do all these things are covered in the guides I've linked above.
Much better to read two or three times then stuff up and end up with a handsome paper weight.
Good luck.
I'll just add my 2 cents
Make a nandroid backup of your phone before flashing a custom rom. Also make a copy of that backup on your computer in case you wipe your phone.
Use at least TWRP 2.6.3.3 for 4.4 and higher roms.
Another question. Is there a Cyanogenmod installer for 4.4.2?
I saw a one click kinda cyanogenmod installer that automatically unlocks bootloadr and installs cyanogenmod.

[Q] Several Questions Please Help

I bought an HTC One (M7) second hand. The previous owner had rooted the device among other things.
It's currently working on Rogers network.
Can you help me find out what the original software version/carrier was on it?
I was thinking of using the latest Rogers RUU but I don't want to wreck anything.
Is there anything that may hinder me from using the RUU?
The phone shows, S-On, *Tampered*, *Unlocked*
Please give me any advice you can and I can clarify anything you need.
I have experience flashing roms on other phones this one seems more complicated.
My main goal is to have a stable Android 4.4+ on my device.
Thanks!

You're saying I should leave it alone and just flash a custom Rom vs a stock one?
I actually like that idea.
But, if I wanted to go stock in the future could I just use the RUU or would I need to do some other changes first?

Yeah just install a custom rom.
I need to go back to stock for warranty still trying to figure out what to do execty.
there are some guides on how to do that. but since you have a second hand I don't think you will have to ever go back to stock for warranty issues

Beginning to regret purchasing this phone...

Hey guys
Im sure I'm not the only one who's thinking this but I really wish I purchased the original mini. The reason for this is the only ROM at the moment for this device is CyanogenMod and nobody seems to be making one. Anybody else feel this way?
Also just in case are you involved or do you know anyone making ROMs for this phone?
Thank God that we have at least cm.... I agree with you, and since I have this phone from July, I have been asking for roms since the first day, but this device isn't so popular yet... Vi there are kernels and mods, better than nothing. This forum sometimes is dead for weeks, I wouldn't be surprised that there is no interest in development

Absolutely.... Preferably lollipop xD
@Will972 is one of the biggest contributors, as he gave us stock roms for every update
A sense rom based on lolipop will be planed soon on 2015 .. we must first have a kernel dev for a possibility to have it earlier but we don't have it.
The only thing we can have is a custom rom with 4.4.2 base
I just miss xposed since there is no idiot rooting guide.
I will make a rom with some stuff like xposed and sense 6.0 toolbox and maybe harman kardon mod instead of boomsound

I know rooting a HTC is not as easy as rooting a Samsung but still it is not hard. The most annoying part is unlocking the bootloader, but even this is easy, but killing time. Once this is done, you need 2 files: twrp recovery

HI indy140
You are not the only one thinking this, read my Statement(s) under Johann A. Sutter in this Forum!
I have made the same experience, for some reason or another it is obviously, that it is not so interesting (or to complicated) for developers to keep them busy with this device!
Good Luck, I'm keeping myself busy, to buy another one, looking before, if there are already valuable possibilities, to be my own Boss about my property.
