[Q] OTA update to 4.2.2 keeps failing [FIXED] - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
The phone is currently running 4.1.2 stock ROM. I unlocked the bootloader and flashed CWMT so that I can install exhange mail no-security patch zip file. Now that 4.2.2 is available, I had to install a small patch first before the phone can download the full 4.2.2 update.
1. I tried installing the update with unlocked bootloader but the update fails, getting stuck at the update image with the progress bar only at 1/3. I had to hold down power button to reset the phone, then it boot back to the update but fails at the red triangle with exclamation mark.
2. So I went into fastboot mode and relocked by bootloader. Now showing "Tampered, relocked".
3. Tried updating again to 4.2.2 and still stuck at the same sequence in #1.
In between steps 3 and 4, I've tried several times to relock, unlock, fix partitions, clear cache, reset data, flash recovery.img etc.
4. Since I didn't do a nandroid backup of the original recovery, I downloaded from XDA a nandroid backup from another user with the same region and CID number. The version was 1.29.980.2 vs 1.29.980.17 on my original ROM.
5. Had to unlock bootloader again and reflashed CWMT to be able to do a nandroid restore. Showing "Tampered, unlocked"
6. Completed a nandroid restore, it was successful. I was able to boot into ROM.
7. Relocked bootloader; now showing "Tampered, Relocked, Security Warning"
8. Tried to install OTA update again and this time the phone just boots into Fastboot and nothing else happens.
I can't find a stock RUU for Aust Unbranded version yet. So my only option to get stock Sense 4.2.2 is via OTA. I would like to stay on stock Sense ROM.
Any suggestions to fix the problem I'm having is much appreciated.

You have to flash stock recovery.... OTA's will not install if you have a custom recovery

Finally fixed the problem. Turns out the stock recovery image from the nandroid backup I downloaded might have something to do with failing. I tried another stock recovery image from here and I was able to finish the upgrade but not without having to manually reboot the phone once, fortunately the install just continued from where it last stopped. Happy now

[Q] [Help] Brick help needed [Solved!]

I was trying to flash a ROM earlier today and didn't realize that I was S-on... This threw me into a Boot loop, I thought no problem i'll just wipe and flash a rom that doesn't need s-off. found one and it booted but I got force close errors all over the place. Then I decided I should just bring it back to stock.. which I was somewhat able to using GURU RUU. I have the phone able to boot 100% into the OS but due to a Firmware difference (that he mentions in his video...) My touch screen isn't functioning. My current state is able to boot into stock rom with no error but no touch screen, I can Load bootloader, fastboot, and recover (I have TWRP but CWM works as well). I have fastboot operations but no adb functionality with the one exception that I can run sideload in twrp and cwm. Not sure if it is a pc issue or a phone issue, although I have tried reinstalling drivers both with and with out sync installed. What is my next move? Do i get a OTG USB cable and do an OTA using a mouse? Or do I do something else? wanted to check with you guys before I jump out of the frying pan and into the fire... seems like i have been making one mistake after another on my own accord. thanks for you time and help. Use otg cable +USB mouse to control the phone
sent from my mobile device
update
I have my otg cable and im able to use the usb mouse with it but I am unable to check for the at&t software update... i click on it and it puls up for a second and then goes away... any ideas?
Idea
I read somewhere that I can flash firmware with s-on as long as i re-lock the bootloader and the mid and cid match on the firmware that i flash to it... this would be done in the ruu flash boot? does that sound right and would this allow me to either get the ota update or flash the correct ruu OR would it possible get my adb functionality back to my bootloader so i can s-off and flash a stock ruu?

You need to flash your touch drivers.
You are in a bit of pickle, as you can't flash anything. Can you run this RUU? http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...3_10-38j-1157-04_release_334235_signed_2-exe/

I can try but I am stuck in S-on would this be an issue? and I can flash from cwm and twrp would a stock nandroid help?
What GURU Reset file did you use? If it is same as nandroid for ATT, then it wont help.
You will need to lock the bootloader and run the RUU file I linked. If RUU doesn't like something on your phone (CID/MID/MAIN-ver mismatch) it will fail before flashing. If it starts flashing you should have a working device at the end.

You are the BEST! Thank you so much.. I have been racking my head trying to get this fixed... I am up and running again! My process
1. I had my phone unlocked bootloader, s-on, and twrp recovery
2. booted into trwp, and adb pushed the Guru stock installer
3. installed the zip, selecting to wipe data, no super user, and then I put the stock recovery and radios on
4. rebooted into bootloader and locked my bootloader
5. rebooted phone
6. ran the RUU that you provided me. (Thanks again)
7. phone booted up 100% working!!!!
8. Gave credit where credit was due!

[Q] Rooting after 5.03.651.3 OTA Update Questions

Sprint HTC ONE
Background:
Just spent the last 15 hours flashing back to 4.06.651.4 stock rom in order to take the new OTA update 5.03.651.3. Somehow I managed to brick my phone to where it would only stay stuck on the green HTC with white background. The only thing that I was able to get to work was booting into the bootloader and play with fastboot commands. I had CWM recovery installed but could never get adb to discover the phone to sideload a rom onto the memory card. I had no backup, and pretty much had everything wiped and formatted on the phone. I went througt installing back and fourth twrp, cwm, and different stock recoveries, and hours of trying different things to no avail. What got my phone back up and going was at some point changing my cid to 11111111(not sure if this did anything for me), flashing 4.06.651.4_firmware.zip, then running Sprint_HTC_One_m7wls_4.06.651.4_RUU.zip (ARUWizard.exe) while in fastboot oem rebootRUU mode. Since then I have installed the 4.06.651.9 OTA and then the 5.03.651.3 OTA which is where I stand at this point.
That being said, here's the state of my phone currently:
No Root
CID: 11111111 ( I don't remember what it should say incase I need to warranty the phone)
S-off
bootloader unlocked (did lock it but found out I didn't have to since I was s-off and since then unlocked)
hboot went from 1.56 to 1.57
___________________________________________
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.57.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.01.20.0515

(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: dirty-1f512bb6
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
Now this here are my questions.
Can I gain Root on being on 5.03.651.3?
If I have to reinstall a custom recovery to gain root, would I be able to flash back to the current stock recovery?
Having the new ver. of hboot 1.57, would I be able to downgrade back to 1.56 using the 4.06.651.4_firmware.zip, to flash back to stock 4.06.651.4 if I want to factory reset and unroot, s-on, and lock the bootloader if necessary?
And last of all what should the CID show from factory on the new OTA?
Basically what I want is to have factory everything rooted so I can get rid of the bloatware. Nice and simple that's all.
Much appreciated!!!

Alright, so answering your questions:
1. Yes you can get root being on 5.03.651.3.
2. 99% sure you can't, unless you RUU; but if you RUU you completely lose everything including root.
3. Yeah you can if you're S-OFF.
ROOTING INSTRUCTIONS:
http://download.chainfire.eu/450/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00.zip
Try downloading that file and then flashing it in TWRP. I haven't tested this though as the ROM that I'm using is prerooted.
There's a video by fellow member @zedomax that tells you how to do this, although the SuperSU zip in his video is outdated as the video's made in 2013 , so I linked you the latest one above.
EDIT: Oh and the factory CID for the Sprint HTC One is SPCS_001.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread and answering all of my questions. I will try rooting when I get home tonight. Thanks again!!!

You could also use these commands if you are S-off
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip recovery.zip
fastboot reboot
this could flash a recovery since you are S-off and flash back your stock recovery... Make sure you include an android-info.txt file...
In the android-info.txt file include this:
modelid: PN0720000
cidnum: SPCS_001
mainver: 1.29.651.10
hbootpreupdate:3
with that txt file and a recovery be it stock or a custom you can do what you like.

In reference to your answer on #2, Why can't you flash back to current stock recovery?
I'm curious to know because, i'm stocked ROM rooted, TRWP (lastest version), s-On. and i've been updating my firmware OTA.
I download the OTA firmware then flashboot stock recovery, reboot phone and perform the update. Once it's done, i then flashboot custom recovery (TWRP) and flash SuperSU to gain root again. The firmware version I"m on now is 5.03.651.3.
So basically, i'm concerned that i won't be able to flash stock recovery whenever the next firmware update occurs, using the method i've just described.

Help. Please. M7 ota update fail after guru reset.

Hi Guys.
I really need some help here and would really appreciate it as it's driving me up the wall for the past week. And I have combed through the forum looking for a solution before posting. So here goes.
I have a One M7 running on ARHD84 with 6.13.707.1 firmware. Learning of the coming OTA update for Lollipop, I decided to return to stock the best I can S-ON. Thus my nightmare begins.
1) I did a nandroid backup restore with a file named 2014-09-15--13-39-50 KTU84L release-keys (I don't have a nandroid backup of my own). It worked fine. Then I did the OTA update (6.13.707.4). It pops an error "Variant System Version".
2) Thinking it must be the nandroid issue, I went for guru reset 3.63.707.4 ROM and it installed with stock recovery and radio. Startup okay then I did the OTA update. It installed halfway and stopped to show a red exclamation error. I hard reset the phone and it went into a bootloop. It loops at the HTC logo. I went into fastboot, flashed twrp and got my phone back with the nandroid backup.
** Stock recovery goes into black screen.
3) Tried the nandroid again. Still Variant System Version.
4) Tried a lower guru reset 2.24.707.1 and it installed with stock recovery and radio. Startup okay and did the OTA update. It installed 1/3 and went into bootloop. This time it took me many many many tries to get back into bootloader.
** Stock recovery never happens, it just goes to black screen
5) Scoured the internet, came back a little wiser and tried the gurureset 3.63.707.4 again. This time I flashed the stock recovery again just to be sure. And this time, guess what.... same thing. Installs 1/3 and goes into the red exclamation mark. Only advancement was it did not go into bootloop.

My getvar

Try this TWRP backup https://www.bloglovin.com/blogs/xda-developers-5233323/stock-rom-6137071-asia-twrp-backup-3430002891 do not use the modified firmwqare, it will brick your phone as your s-on.
Give up with the Guru resets, they are failing because your bootloader is too new and even the OTA cant back flash your bootloader, those OTA's will be trying to install HBOOT 1.54 or something like that.

Thanks for the reply man.
Unfortunately, that's the exact same backup I used in step 1. Get's the variant system error.

[Q] Soft Bricked (M7)

Here's the problem: Booting into system brings me into Teamwin, and factory reset also gets into Teamwin.
More details:
Bootloader says "Tampered", "Unlocked", "S-On"
So previously, I thought myself smarter and tried to unlock it and install Android Revolution HD. The unlock succeeded, but the Android Revolution HD install did not. I was forced to factory reset it back to stock Android, but with an unlocked bootloader and rooted. This lasted until a few days ago when the stock system constantly asked me if I wanted to update the system. The problem is, everytime I selected "Install Now", it wouldn't update, but would bring me back to the Teamwin system. So then I got fed up, and tried to install the Android Revolution HD again. I wiped the cache and everything. The issue now, is that it won't boot into any system and factory reset from bootloader brings me to the Teamwin page, still.
I've tried copying the ARHD boot.img back into the phone via "fastboot boot boot.img", but that still doesn't work. So I'm all out of ideas now. All I want now, is a working system. Even better if I can go back to stock stock, like as if when I just bought it from the store so I don't have to bother with all these hassles.
Help, please!

you can't install ota update with a custom recovery.

A factory reset won't restore your system magically, it only wipes /data (user data). If your system (/system) is messed up, wiping /data won't change anything.
I've tried copying the ARHD boot.img back into the phone via "fastboot boot boot.img", but that still doesn't work.

You don't need to flash boot.img manually on the M7, its flashed with the rom.
So I'm all out of ideas now. All I want now, is a working system. Even better if I can go back to stock stock, like as if when I just bought it from the store so I don't have to bother with all these hassles.

Post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (not your IMEI / serialno)
What version of ARHD was it?
What is your twrp version?

remove your IMEI and SERIALNO, never post these numbers.
2 reasons why the rom won't work
the recovery used to flash it is too old, you need at least 2.6.3.3 and latest version is 2.8.7.0
You might need to update your firmware
If you want to return stock, relock your bootloader and flash the 7.19.980.5 ruu
file and instruction here

The ota caused a bootloop because you have installed it on a rooted phone. Unlike older updates (6.xx.xxx.x and before), you can't simply reflash the stock recovery to update. Lollipop updates can only be installed on 100% stock and non-rooted rom. That wasn't a problem in the past but its now a well know problem with all newer updates.
Your version-main is now 7.19.401.30 because, unlike the software, the firmware updated fine. You can't flash the 7.19.401.22 RUU because its now a downgrade in version (because your firmware got updated). Downgrading using a RUU requires S-OFF, your phone is S-ON. Same reason why the 7.19.401.2 won't work.
7.19.401.30 ruu is a "combined" RUU so it can't be flashed on a s-on phone.
Your option are:
unlock the bootloader, flash twrp recovery and flash a rom
or achieve s-off using sunshine and flash the .22 or the .30 ruu (you'll need to do option 1 first because you need a working rom to be able to s-off the phone)
Or maybe someone already uploaded a nandroid backup of 7.19.401.30. If you find one you can restore the backup using a custom recovery and then reflash the stock recovery.

1.a stock or stockish rom is best if you want to achieve s-off, You don't need s-off to flash a custom rom, only an unlocked bootloader + a custom recovery.
3. No, might want to ask in the update thread in the general section (see sticky threads)
