[Q] How do I update to 4.2.2 on unlocked model? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I couldn't find it anywhere on the web with a guide that actually works.
I searched "Update HTC One to 4.2.2" and "How to update HTC One to 4.2.2" and couldn't find a guide that worked...
I'm using the unlocked model that I ordered right from HTC and I did the "Check Updates" thing and it couldn't find any more updates. So I'm stuck on 4.2.2.
I'm not looking to unlock the bootloader or rooting right now, just in case i have to get it replaced.
Can anyone provide helpful insight into my problem?

*bump*!!! Plz help!!!

You either have to unlock the bootloader and flash a 4.2.2 rom, or wait it out until HTC decides to push the update to that model.

Really... i thought that unlocked model got the 4.2.2 update???
Wow not surprising that HTC is the WORST at OTA updates...

USA carriers are the worst for OTA updates, which is why I unlocked my bootloader right away. Then when the international 4.2.2 rom came out, I waited for a bit to see if there was any problems on the AT&T model. There wasn't and I flashed it with no problems. Full LTE and no bloat.

I have the unlocked model, no branding, no bloat, no AT&T, no USA crap.

It's possible that the OTA update has not yet been pushed for your device.... it depends on the CID not just the fact that it is a sim free device.
As far as I'm aware no American Ones have yet received the 4.2.2 update

I did read the OP. The unlock model is still tied down to US carriers; it's not like its international variant.

The updates aren't controlled by AT&T though. AT&T has no control over my device. If I had it on AT&T then I would be waiting for AT&T, but since its a HTC direct, im waiting on HTC to push it to my phone. AT&T has nothing to do with this.

there is NO RUU for 4.2.2, you either have to install 4.2 and wait for update
or flash a 4.2.2 based ROM, like ARHD 12.2

Since S-Off Is carrier branding a thing of the past?

Ok first off I'm not all that familiar with htc's ways. I know that with previous bootloader unlocks we were able to flash custom roms and what not. Now with S-off we are able to change anything on the phone software wise. So that being said is carrier branding not so much an impact now?
For instance,
My phone is an att htc one which can receive AT&T ota updates. I know with the bootloader unlock I was able to flash international roms and have all the updated goodies of the international phone owners. But that being said I was still not able to receive international OTA updates since I was still branded AT&T.
Is the Cid what determines this?
If so, with s-off can we just change it to the international, developer edition, or any other carrier ID that we choose. Then flash an RUU from that carrier and then practically be the same as having the international or developer edition phone? Would we then be able to receive OTAs just like the dev or international editions get?
Yes, you can run any RUU on your phone. That does not guarantee everything will work, however.
Flashing firmware from another carrier won't get you OTAs from them. Getting OTAs is a combination of your CID and your carrier. I can tell you from my experience with the One X, lots of folks who got AT&T phones and took them overseas after sim unlocking never got any AT&T OTAs. So I doubt it would work on this phone either.
I don't know what will happen with the Google edition, when it comes out. I don't think anyone knows until it's released. It's possible you will get OTAs from Google if you can get that on your phone.

Thanks for your response.
Ok say for instance I buy an HTC One Dev edition strait from htc. I then put that phone on at&ts service. I would stiill get ota's strait from htc right?
So for my at&t branded htc one with s-off. Assuming that I have the cid from the dev edition and a stock dev edition ruu, what else would be there to stop me from getting ota's strait from htc like the dev edition does?
First off, to use dev ruu you need supercid.

So you couldnt install a dev ruu with the dev cid? What else would keep it from installing?
Ok let me put it like this. As far as I know there is no hardware differences between the htc one dev edition and the htc one at&t edition. That being said since we have s-off and are now able to change anything and everything on the phone software wise, can we not convert our at&t devices over to htc one dev editions and get OTAs directly from HTC and what not?
what is supercid? cid - 11111111?

As long as you have the dev edition cid and the dev edition ruu, theoretically you should get the OTA updates. Same with the Google Edition because these two are not carrier branded and the updates come directly from HTC and Google.

I thought Google will be the one releasing all the updates for the Nexus edition (Google experience) phones?
Consider Developer Edition still stuck on 4.12, I would hope Nexus edition updates are handled by Google not HTC

Are people working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

Thanks, but I have bought the phone already. If I get another one or replace the one I have it'll probably be a European, G870F, the same modell I had before.

You could have rooted before 5.0. If you have the latest bootloader, it can't be done. That is why I suggested getting one that has pre 5.0 stock 4.4.2.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...
poop... i just got one of those and I'm all excited to get the att crap off there and see how much faster it gets... not to mention all the other things you can't run without root.... this ebay "deal" keeps getting worse....

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Hi Sgt.CM,
I got my AT&T S5 on release day and never updated it. I have a SM-G900A with Android version 4.4.2! Is it possible for me to put CM13 with marshmallow 6.0.1 on there? I had assumed it was impossible...
Thanks,

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:

I'm guessing they may not be correct?

Any recent progress x/ xt1097 AT&T?

I just acquired this phone, and imagine my surprise at finding that if you have the AT&T version with the August 2016 security update, you're basically screwed. Just wondering if there's been any recent success with this. I've been doing a lot of reading, but it seems there's been nothing new posted about it for a while. Curious as to whether anyone's been working on this issue or if it's a lost cause. I've tried the Kingroot methods and whatnot, nothing seems to work, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks.

France?
The reason i am asking is i see a lot of new XT1097's on eBay in the UK. I think these can upgrade to MM but i think the bootloader is locked. I really want a Moto X 2nd gen but if i cannot unlock the bootloader without paying $25 then I'm out.
No. I'm in the US. The issue is that AT&T branded 1097's are unable to have the bootloader unlocked without being rooted, and there is currently no working root method if you have accepted the most recent security updates.
Does anyone know if the EU and South American XT1097's than have been updated to MM have an unlocked bootloader?

The AT&T XT1097 is the only remaining edition which does not qualify for bootloader unlocking, and it has no MM update.
So if these XT1097's have been updated to MM, then they can't be the AT&T edition, and they must be unlockable through the official Motorola procedure.

Carrier Unlocked Update! N950U1

I just got off the chat with Samsung and they said the latest update for our device should be out in the next couple of days. Samsung is way slower than the carriers. I have an unlocked Note 8 running the ATT firmware. Will this update wipe my device or put me back to the unlocked carrier firmware?
Thanks for the info. I'm on the same boat. Hope they roll out soon!
It is crazy that we get it last. I mean, Samsung has to provide the update to the carriers, then the carriers tweak the update for their own devices, then they deploy it. Why aren't we getting it first?!

I know I thought the same. I don't think I will be buying another unlocked carrier phone anymore. Not worth it. Right now I have the ATT firmware running on my Unlocked carrier version. So I still ended up debloating the OS.
What's best way to add carrier firmware? Sprint added there version of volte and unlocked version doesn't have it and I don't think it will get it

Looking for Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Official Stock AT&T Rom for my unlocked phone

I bought a Note 9 from Amazon I thought it was an official AT&T phone but it is the unlocked version. My unlocked version does not support a number of AT&T's features I would like to have access too. I have read how to flash the Rom and I know how to do it. I downloaded a Rom which I thought was the AT&T stock rom but it was actually the same Rom I had the unlocked version. So when I flashed it it was the same as before. I think it is possible it flash the phone so that it is like I bought it from AT&T. I have seen people do this on youtube with their Galaxy note 10's. I am unable to find the Official Stock Rom or maybe I have and am unsure if it is the official one. So if anyone knows where I can get the dang official Rom so I can flash my unlocked phone and turn it into an official AT&T phone that would really help me. Thank you very much.

in fact that DID answer your question.
in sammobile, you could find your "carrier" rom version as you want, which is U, not U1 (unlock version).
then use samfirm or frija to download the rom with max speed.

So If I want to flash it too the official AT&T I should look for SM-N96OU instead of SM-N96OU1, correct? I am nervous about bricking the phone. I have read that the AT&T version and the unlocked phones are exactly the same they just have different firmware. Is this true?

I'm looking to convert my SM-N960U1 (unlocked) to the AT&T version as well. I'm seeing the following as the lastest firmware I should be downloading to convert to AT&T. Can anyone verify this because the N960U does not have AT&T firmware available?

All the U firmware is the same. If you have At&t sim you can flash any Note 9 U firmware and it will provision to your sim. If you are coming from U1 you will need to do a factory wipe. Was your device purchased as unlocked or was it U?....
Oops never mind I see its unlocked.

For some reason i feel that Sammobile its more about selling firmware software to buyers of samsung instead of helping people take the best out of their phones. Some of use pay over the 1000 dollar for a phone and dont get easy help while samsung should atleast give us the freedom to get the firmwares for our devices for free. Sam mobile has ablot of information on their website, but ofcourse nothing for free. Even signing up their websites is an issue, and to get support thats another issue. So i most say Sam mobile its all about selling Samsung software, while you and me who buy the phones, not sammobile! Resell it back to us. Seriously its discrimination in my eyes. Maybe am wrong, but thats how i feel about. Now i dont know what business relation sammobile has with samsung, but i know the founder is not a. Chinese, but a Holland guy. Thank u.
