Hello everyone, long time reader, first time poster (with a real query).
Actually last Friday my cappy started to show 100% of the battery after being for some time in use, so I reboot it trying to solve the issue.
After the boot, the cell shows the Initially Battery screen for 2 seconds with the battery without charge then turns off. Tried several times and also using a second battery with full charge and same problem persisted.
10 minutes later without having a battery inside the phone, it boots but when I rebooted the problem arises again.
This weekend I installed Illuminance 3.01, after that I have installed CM9 (very nice ROM) and the battery problem still is happening. I am able to use the phone but I don´t know for how much more.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Martin
have you tried to wipe battery stats in recovery ?

Yesterday night I did a wipe battery stats and the problem still is there.
It starts with the loop and the only way I can start the phone is plugging it then it shows the actual charge of the battery and after that I can boot.
It must be something "deeper" than the rom...
Anybody?
Thanks
Somebody can help?
I am having the exact same issue, stock froyo 2.2 rooted 5 months ago. I'm trying everything before updating to 2.3, I'll let you know if I find a fix, please do the same.
Searching google is not working this time, it's been 3 days...
Things I've tried:
1- From recovery, boot phone. Problem persists after phone is turned off.
2- Boot from revovery, then reset to factory settings, after rese, same issue.
3- Wipe cache from recovery. Problem still there.
4- Wipe cache+user data from recovery. Same thing.
5- repeating 1-4 without SD card or SIM card.
- Wipe battery data... nothing...
- Unrooting, same issue, rooted again.
- Run root fixes with Titanium backup. Same...
- Removing battery for hours, while charging it externally, replace battery, same issue.
All to no success. Things yet to try:
- Update to 2.3 using kies
- Update to beta 2.3.5 using odin
- Update to custom rom, maybe try 3 or 4 different...
- Cry, then save and buy a new phone, use cappy as shiny paperweight...
Please let me know if you could fix it...
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "initial battery screen."
But if I am to understand the rest, your problem is:
initial boot - runs fine, but battery stays at 100% no matter how long it runs.
reboot - phone now says the battery is suddenly dead, and shuts-off.
further reboots - same
You can't get the phone to fully boot till the battery is left out for a while and the phone is fully de-energized.
You have tried a different battery and it behaves the same.
- - - - - -
Have you tried using a known "good" battery? (a new one or one from someone who's phone works fine)
Also, what happens if you plug in the USB while the phone is off? (after the inital boot, when it is stuck in the "dead battery loop.")
Still dead after installing update and 2 custom roms...
Yes I tried a good battery from another cappy, if I plug in the cable it does the same, instead of normally booting, it displays an empty battery and goes off.
I am able to make it work but only entering the restore mode, so I cannot for example be on a trip and reset the phone for whatever reason...
have you tried using a different kernel?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
sorry, but how can I try a different kernel? do i need to change the rom?
Nah, kernels can be flashed independent of ROMs just look through development for topics that have "[Kernel]" as the fist word in their title.
If you have gone and loaded two custom ROMs and it still persist then it's not a kernel issue. As the kernel is always changed along with the ROM.
That said, I can only think of two other possibilities: one being dirt or such making a short in the contacts of the usb (does it sometimes think it is plugged in when it's not), two something in the circuitry for the battery randomly went bad.
Try cleaning the socket for the usb. If that does not fix then assume the worst
leaked from my ICS- FUSED SGS I897 contaminating you via XDA app.
Ok, here's the thing, I left it without the battery for 24 hrs, then it was worst. The phone would not turn on at all. However, after that I tried putting the battery in while holding the power button, it worked!!! it's better than having to connect to the computer, but still, I don't want to have to do this every time... flashing roms now to try again.
We're getting somewhere now...
DaNaRkI could be right about it being a circuitry problem (which would suck). With that in mind, have you checked to make sure the prongs which connect the battery to the phone are still in good shape?
When you flashed the roms, are you doing complete wipes? (wiping the cache/dalvik/data)? It might be worth it to go one step beyond that and format all the partitions and then reflash. I think if you do that, you could basically rule out any software problems.
Be sure to back up your data!
P.S. When you do all this wiping and formating and reflashing, boot up and check to see if the problem is still there before you put your data back on jic there is some weird corruption in your data which is causing this.
ok.
have you checked to make sure the prongs which connect the battery to the phone are still in good shape?
yes I have, they're perfect
When you flashed the roms, are you doing complete wipes?
many times, actually
I have yet to format all partitions, how can I do that?
Thanks!!
and yes, all my data is well backed up in my PC and cloud...
---------- Post added at 12:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:09 AM ----------
this is rather odd, just tried to factory reset again, then restarted using the battery method, then... turned it off, and now it boots normally!!!
Thanks for your help !!!
I have the same problem. What exactly did you do? I use a custom rom, and I flashed stock gingerbread 2.3.4.
Formatting the partitions won't do anything, since the phone won't even turn on sometimes. So when exactly did this problem start happening? Was it after a particular flash or other incident?
Yesterday I suddenly found my phone to be turned off by itself. When I tried to turn it on again, nothing usually happened. Sometimes however, it looked like it would turn on, but the white bootlogo would barely show, or maybe up to a second, and then it would go black again. When connecting a charger the charging icon would show for a second, and then black again, and still the phone wouldn’t boot. Recovery or download mode wouldn’t work either. I was hoping it was only the battery that had just died, since the phone won’t work at all without the battery, even with the charger connected. But when I tested a friends battery today, it would still not boot, and my battery worked fine in his phone. But, at least it turned on each time now, showing the bootlogo for a second, and then all black again. Recovery mode still won’t work, but I’m able to get it in download mode. If I connect the phone to the PC by cable first, it won’t start or go in download mode, I have to get it in dowmload mode first and then connect. I was using stock system v2.3.3 from about a year ago, but with Clockworkmod kernel.
So what could have happened? I figure the system is either corrupt, or even wiped?
Or could the phone itself be badly corrupted?
I also have to mention, that a few months ago the internal and external SD-card was suddenly wiped, and I got a message about error on one of them and had to reformat.
Since download mode is ok, I hope there is a chance to maybe flashing the system again with Odin?
Is ther any way to connect the phone to the pc and get access to the memory to maybe copy whatever data still there, if any? Or can I reflash to just put the new system on top of everything without formatting?
I think your sd connectors are corroded or damaged. For your data try to flash the semaphore kernel by Odin to get a recovery (link ). After flashing, go into the recovery look for "mont and storage" and select "mount usb storage" or something like that. With your pc connect your device and copy your data in your pc like an usb stick.
If it doesnt work, say goodbye to your data and try to reflash a rom by Odin

- Unzip the file
- Open Odin (if you don't have it download here )
-Put CODE in the PDA case
-Put MODEM in PHONE
-Put CSC in CSC
-Now Put your phone in Download Mode and connect it
-Press Start and don't touch anything until the great case above the yellow one became green.

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow morning at work, don't have the time today.
At least I do have a complete backup from about two months ago, so it's no disaster about the data. There's not really anything that important on the phone, it's just all the work setting everything up like I want it again.
Please reflash a stock rom with odin...
I was able to flash semapfore kernel, but still I couldn't get the phone in recovery mode.
Flashed stock firmware 2.3.3 (last nordic version), and the phone booted fine, but lots of old programs kept crashing and messing with the system. Best of all, everything on the internal sd was there, so all the latest titaniumbackup was there. So I copied this to the PC, did a factory reset, flashed CF-root again, copied the titaniumbackup and clockworkmod-backup to the internal sd, and cwm-backup is beeing restored as we speak. Then titaniumbackup will be restored and everything should be fine for now.
I'll be leaving for holiday in a week, so I don't want to use lots of time right now to do a clean setup of the phone. There is way too much other things I have spend my time on before the holiday. But after the holiday I think I'll just have to do so.
Thanks for helping.
For your apps who crash you have to wipe apps data (with TB).
The apps crashing when I just reflashed didn't really matter since I was going to install the backup anyway.
But a few apps kept crashing even after I flashed the backup. So wipe app data was what I eventually found out I had to do.
And so the same thing happened again.
But this time it doesn't seem like reflashing will help at all.
Crappy trashphone, it's been a disaster rom day one.

The phone won't boot, and won't go into recovery mode, only download mode.
When I turn it on the boot logo only shows barely, and then nothing happens, just like last time.
I've tried reflashing several times using Odin, but this time it doesn't help, phone still won't boot. I've tried both without repartition, and wit repartition (and pit).
My friend got me to put his phone on cm9 after using froyo for a long time.
The strange thing was that the method to get into recovery suddenly changed from volume up, power and home. For some reason it is now both volume buttons, home and power ..
Just thought I'd share this since your recovery should work after a kernel flash.

Reinstall like the 1st time, do all wipes + formats then flash.
Is the phone looping ? Meaning on the glowing samsung logo, It vibrates then restarts the animation over and over again ?
Also, how long has it been like this ? Have you left the phone to charge for around 30mins before trying to power on ?
Im certain its nothing serious as you can still get into recovery and its still attempting to boot, So maybe its ROM / Kernel related.
EDIT: I just noticed you said its stuck on the Galaxy Note screen, not the boot animation... Have you by any chance just flashed philz kernel ? I had this issue the other day and I could only get it to boot by doing a full reset
BUT....... If recovery is working, Make a nandroid backup, reset the phone, then restore the apps from the nandroid using titanium backup. That way you wont lose any apps that you have installed since your last backup.

Well your contacts will be backed up with google but im pretty sure a nandroid will back them up too, including sms's
Titanium will only restore apps from a nandroid, if you want to restore other things, try this app
What is disturbing is this just happened to me as well. My battery also ran down while using an xxLSA based ROM and won't boot past the "Samsung Galaxy Note" logo. Fully charging my phone so I can do a reinstall.
edit: Just confirming that Factory Reset fixes the problem. All my data is backed up so I went for it.

yes factory reset solved the problem for me
but now back to 4.0.4
Just to make another confirmation: This happened to me running an lsa based rom also.
Same here. LSA based Rom. Happened 2nd time already. So annoying.

Me too. I tried at least 4 times to get v5 installed. It works fine until I try to install any app such as Titanium. Then it gets stuck at the first Samsung .. screen on the next reboot.
It's really p****ng me off. There must be a hell of a bug in this ROM.
This is the result of hurry. Let the developer test the firmware first. Not everything is flashable let the devs make a sacrifice first then on his recommendation install the FW

Hi Guys,
I am running Pandoriam and have twice had issues when moving the SIM card out of my S3 and the next time I rebooted it would hang at the SAMSUNG logo and wont boot up.
I would do a cache reset and a Dalvik wipe but doesnt fix it, have to do a full factory reset.
Any ideas ? I dont want this to randomly happen if the SIM slips out when knocking around my phone etc.
I think it might have something to do with Hot Boot, because if I do a Hot Boot from the Reboot menu it has the same outcome.
OK now it appears it might be linked to changing the Lock Screen.
When I change it and reboot the SAMSUNG logo appears and then it appears to generate the outside (clock / battery) icons and the overlay text (no sim / sim lock) appear... but the lock screen background is just BLACK and then crashes and reboots to SAMSUNG logo and doesn't go past the boot up.
I have some of the same issues. I left my phone charging over night. When i wake up it was frozen. I rebooted the phone and know it hang at the Samsung logo. Needed for install to fix this.
I can confirm the hot boot option. It makes a new clean re install go into Samsung logo hanging. But you can fix with a force shutdown and normal boot.
Both issues was on Pandoriam 4 Final new flash will be 4.5 maybe its fixed.

I had the same problem. In the end, i must reinstall the rom.
I have same issue when chose the persus kernel when flashing rom.
End up I flashed again with stock kernel
and the problem does not happen for a week.

Strange, Just to be sure Wipe Data/Factory rest before installing but if you have its a weird problem because I have rebooted and reinstalled and re-tested the rom ALOT of times and have chosen most of the options and kernels and I have NEVER had this issue.
Never had any Problems with the great Pandoriam ROM... It's a beauty !!

Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't been around to update, I re-installed and tried multiple different sets of options and every single time I changed the lockscreen from the default and rebooted it would just hang.
I did all 3 wipes from recovery before and after flashes but same issue. (I flashed from recovery not PC)
As I was running version 4 at the time I upgraded to 4.5 and ran through multiple different sets of settings but same issue
I will try it again in a few versions but for now I need a working phone so I am running rXTREME V2.1 for the time being.
Hi.
Since yesterday my galaxy s3 lte i9305 does not boot anymore, the blue cyanogenmod logo keeps turning for hours. I can however still go to the recovery (which was a few month old cwm). I completely wiped the phone (both caches, data, internal sd, boot, firmware etc ... all but the modem) and reinstalled the newest cwm and the newest nightly build three times now using heimdall and the external sd (connected my external micro sd to my computer sd card reader via adapter and put the zip on it). Just now I installed twrp-2.8.5.0-i9305 as a new recovery and installed everything again, but everytime - and also now - despite the seemingly successful installation, the phone is stuck at the cyanogen bootlogo.
Any ideas on how to get my phone running again?
Cheers

I would try a factory reset from recovery and see if that helps. You did check the md5 for your downloads right?
Otherwise I would install the stock rom, then try again, this time(making sure you have a compatible recovery) just wipe caches, data, and format system, and then install CM

I did do the factory reset. I just wiped the areas separately as well. Anyway, I took your advice and installed the latest stock rom. Now I got the Samsung logo slightly flashing blue for hours instead of the cyanogenmod logo. Did not do anything else.
I suspect that its a battery issue in some way. The last weeks the phone lost its charge very quickly very often (not constantly though). Yesterday, the phone was in my pocket and then went off. It went into the constantly trying to restart despite the lack of batteries state until I removed the battery. Maybe that gives any clue?

Try booting into stock recovery, then factory reset from there. Last time I went back to stock I had a bootloop until I did this, then it booted properly. If that doesn't work, maybe try new battery.
Have you tried booting up whilst plugged in to a usb charger?

Thanks for your helpful input.
I did what you said, even tried it twice now. Phone is still booting after 20 minutes now. I also tried booting up while charging the phone, yes. That was my standard procedure actually, but nothing changes when I unplug it. I don't have a different battery and I am wary of buying one just for the sake of trying. Tried that when my galaxy s 1 broke down and that didn't save the phone. At this point I am contemplating if the phone (s3) is broken now or not. It still reliably boots to the recovery, but it doesn't do much else. How are the chances?
Or has anyone any idea on how to proceed?

Try to boot into recovery. Do a factory reset then boot straight into download mode and flash stock rom. You might have to redownload the firmware it could be corrupted.. If that doesn't work then you might have to send it in. It might cost about to fix. Or go to your local phone repair shop and see if they could fix it for cheaper
