Is it possible to add features like logo2wake, swipe2wake, doubletap2wake without flashing a kernel? I'd like to have my One as close to 4.3 Google Play stock as possible, meaning I don't want to flash a custom kernel, but I also want these wake features because I hate hardware buttons. Is this possible? I'm currently using the Faux kernel and it works fine, but it bothers me a bit that it's not stock.
oops...i meant logo2wake, not menu2wake.
Not available in any stock kernel

Is it possible to have a working camera/recorder with a stock FRF91 rom, and an OC kernel?
I have tried wildmonk's & Pershoot kernals, with the 720p green pix fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698287). The camera works, but when I open the recorder, i get green/pink blocks across the screen.
Unless I'm mistaken, any 720p-enabled kernel is designed to be used with a ROM written to support that capability - the stock FRF91 build does not support such a creature. Maybe try one of the non-720p kernels?
Hi,
for what reason do I a kernel flash? Are the rom included kernels better then a lonestanding once? can I flash any kernal to any rom?
what is the benifit of flashing an other kernel then the once ued in the rom?
thanks
When you change the kernel you choose a better kernel then stock.
They are more tweaked and habeas more support fir different things.
**Using my own JPX kernel, z4mod, 345MB Ram and ext2 filesystem**
- Different file system (better battery life) (I'm still experimenting with finding the right one)
- Access to the kernel allows you to use the led backlights on the buttons for notifications.
Those are currently the main reasons why I flash diff kernels.
You can have direct acces to one of the most advance lag fixes around(voodoo) better performance ,overclocking ,color correction for ur display, more user accessable ram and so on

Good question.
Samsung open-sources their released ROMs from time to time and many of the "kernel-hackers" (I'd call them plain hackers, what's with the prefix?) here utilize it to add/provide features and fix bugs (bugs are overlooked by people, its normal).
For instance, SpeedMods' kernel provides an Overclocking support for your Phone's CPU, if you want that extra juice. Likewise, Voodoo provides a set of visual enhancements among other things.
HTH
Another important reason is to regain 2e recovery if you lost it after flashing a stock firmware. This assumes the kernel you choose includes this feature
Fine, thank you all!
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm still learning about ROMs and Kernels.
Before I installed JB Ultimate N7000 XXLS7 Jellybean 4.1.2 v4, I had the Hydracore universal kernel installed.
The JB ROM comes packaged with its own kernel. Is there any reason why I should re-install Hydracore? Is there any advantage to doing this at this stage?
The only change I can see wanting to make to my phone in the foreseeeable future is to try out the official Sangsung Jellybean ROM when it finally gets released as this may include features or apps not in the 4.1.2 v4 and I would like to compare.
Thanks and reagrds
Trevor
which version of Hydracore were you refering to ? if it is compatible with LS7 ( not too sure about that) then the OC version of it will give you the ability to overclock if you are a fan of that feature.
most continue on Phillz ls7 kernel, its the only one which allows the multi-window feature in ls7 to work
hydracore is not compatible with any leak jb based roms. install only if you want your phone not to boot
Many thanks for your reply.
The zip file I have is GL_HYDRACORE_v5-4_STD.zip.
Since, I've no interest in over clocking, it doesn't sound as if there is any reason to re-install this Kernel and nokiamodeln91 says it will cause the phone not to boot anyway.
I just thought having read the claims made by the develope about it being compatible with ANY ROM and all that, that it might offer some advantage if I want to change ROM later.
You mention Phillz Is7 kernel as the only one allowing the multi-window feature to work. Didn't know I hadn't got MW (Duhh!). So would you recommend installing that to make that feature work? I'll do some reading up about that kernel after this.
Thanks again.

Which kernel you are currently on? If you haven't installed any kernel manually, that means you already have Philz kernel, which comes by default with Ultimate JB v4..
Yes, of course, you're right. I just didn't recognise the name of the Kernel. Sorry.

check out the multi-window feature which is the hallmark of ls7 , some ls7 rom OPs have videos on it , learn how to enable it. its KEWL
Thanks. All working fine.
I'm planning to instal IllusionROM and I want a kernel similar to ElementalX like I have on my ViperROM! I love the double tap to wake especially, and the ability to OC the cpu and gpu..
But I would need a non-sense kernel correct?
Any suggestions?
Thanks much!
As far as I understand there are values in the kernel that need to be modified to allow overclocking. Most custom ROMs come with modified kernels that allow this. I have a stock 4.3 rom with custom recovery and root. Is there a way to use one of the kernels from those custom ROMs? And is a 4.4 kernel compatible with Android 4.3? Rebuilding a kernel from scratch is beyond my powers and I don't want to mess with this or go that deep
Thanks in advance for any reply.
