Galaxy Tab 7? SGH-i987 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I recently got a SGH-i987 Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch and was wondering if it was the same as the one discussed in this section.
AT&T
GT-P1000
2.2 Firmware Build Number FROYO.XXJK5
Baseband I9000UGJK3
Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
I believe I did the mod to get the phone app on it to let it call as well if that matters.
Anyway, was wondering how I'd get a custom firmware on it...if at all. Don't really care if it loses 3G stuff. As long as it has Wifi at least.

Using the Overcome Guide, I've gotten to the Overcome ROM on Gingerbread. Is there any way I can get to ICS or JB now though?

Yes. Yours is P1000. Too many threads in dev section to follow. Just go for alroger's cm10.1 if you want, or AOKP soon ( I am on test release of stimpz0r's AOKP JB, can't tell you how good it is). But rest asssure it will be great.

I've gotten to Miui v4 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613842 now from Overcome. So I guess my last question really is whether I need to go back to Overcome v4 Gingerbread like my second post THEN JB...and again for any other ROM, or if there is anything else special I need to know.

Hmm. It is an MTD ROM. This MIUI Rom was made around the time the newer MTD layout was introduced.
Can't remember if it uses the older or current layout. Ask Ronak or just restock.

[Q] HELP!!!!, Any good Rom for Sprint Tab 7?

Hi, I'm looking for a custom rom for a Sprint Tab 7. anyone knows where I can find one?. I have tryed the CM7 but wifi won't work all the time on it.
Right now there really are only 2 good options for the sprint tabs.. Jt's cm7 kang, or the stock rooted that rodderik posted in his sprint mega dev thread. Sadly those are our only good working options.. I've been running Jt's cm7 since I found it, and haven't had any issues with wifi, other than the fact that it for some reason changes the wifi mac id with each update.

Stay away from ICS as there are no stable versions available at the moment.
Depends on what you mean by stable.
It is pretty stable now, but not full featured yet.

Camera is fixed. If you don't know how to push changes, you should wait for a few more days to get new build that has fixes.

which MIUI?
[ROM][GSM][ALPHA]MIUI ICS 2.1.6 Based on CM9 ??
If this is the one, well, it is an alpha ROM. So don't expect too much.
And hasn't been updated since Jan 2012.
The dev said don't use it as a daily rom.
That truly burst my bubble, cause once I downloaded it I feel in love with the way the entire interface looked and felt. All I can say is the development had something cooking there, I wish he would have maxed it out. It could have been really one of the best kernels out.. Just my option. Thanks for the feedback, I truly appreciate all of you that help us non knowing newbies out.. And I say that from the heart. Is there anything that comes close to it out..?? I'm using CM9'S build #31, it's good but the fonts are small and I miss the notification page that sides down. Can you please be kind enuff (not saying you haven't thus far) to put me one to the HOTTEST build out, we'll which ever you think is the best out for daily use for my GT-P1000. Thanks again, and muck blessings to you and yours.

This is the best ICS ROM for this device as fas as I'm concerned. Works really well. A couple of minor bugs but overall it flies.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523174
I searched the link you suggested, however I didn't see my device listed (GT - P1000). Is there a direct link you can send me to it'll be greatly appreciated. And what is ice Aokp..??
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
I'm really not sure what you mean. The link I posted takes you the ICS ROM for P1000 device.
May be I'm misunderstanding your question.
Hi luchiano,
If you are on cm9, there isn't a build 31.
That is ICS AOKP that has that build number.
You won't have slides down transparent notification like in gingerbread, sorry can't help there.
But font size can be increased easily in settings- display-font size.

Can you please do me the favor and send me a link to what ever version your on..?? It would be highly appreciated. Thanks again to you both.

[Q] ICS for my Galaxy Tab

Hi all,
I own a Galaxy Tab P1000 bought in UK and not sim locked.
I bought it in Carphone Warehouse.
Now I wonder if I can install ICS on my Tab.
I know nothing about kernels in general so please do not come up with install this kernel, that kernel.
I have a stock 2.3.3 ROM updated via Kies and I rooted it.
I just want to keep all my features working on my Tab (camera, data, voice and so on) after the upgrade so I am not interested if some stuff is not working.
If these requirements are met I wish you could come up with an upgrade procedure for dummies with the link to all files needed.
Again I know nothing about kernels so please try to explain what I am gonna do.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Federico.
Well, too bad.
Samsung won't make ICS for this tab, so no L
kies update for you.
And yeah, we all will tell you to install a kernel+cwm to flash it.
And no spoon feeding either...
Go to overcome site
Http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
Links are easy to find in their individual thread.
Come back here after you have overcome rom, come back here and I am willing to guide you further.

Camera, data, voice call
Yes, both cm9 and AOKP can do that.

I am reading some information. It looks like there are stability problems with custom roms. Endless loops with one. Wifi disconnecting on the other. When I was using a sony ericsson x10 I used to install custom roms. Just all had bugs and I always went back to stock. Thing is that the tab is more complicated and I am not willing to brick it either.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
P.S. Cwm is already installed on my tab. Just not the kernel.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
You need cwm 5.x to be successful I think.
Btw, gtab is quite hard to brick, as long as you didn't screw up the boot loader.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Steps should be to:
- Install GB-stock-safe-v5.zip (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.0.0 Kernel (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.1 ROM wipe (via CWM, should I use wipe or no wipe?)
Once I am done with that I can use CWM to install an ICS ROM if I wish.
I think I got this correctly didn't I?
Ok, I am now lost about which specific ROM to try. CM seems more stable but is there any specific release (more stable) that I should be looking for? Could anyone please link a post to a stable ICS CM release for my tab?

[Q]What tabs are contained in this forums?

Please answer, I just got p1000 yesterday so I'm a newbie on tab forum.

If it is not released specifically for GT-P1000, NO you can't. We have MIUI.us ported to GT-P1000 in this forum check out the following:
GB MIUI for GT-P1000 (Last released was september 2011, which should be quite stable for GB release.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224147
ICS MIUI for GT-P1000 (Not recommended for it is an ALPHA release and no updates/supports since Jan 2012 when ICS was still unstable)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460177
if you want a stable, nice and cool ICS, check out the AOKP-SGT7 ICS here:

Note: Please do your own research when you are deciding to install these ROMs above. I will not be responsible for these recommendation if you break your device, or if you are unhappy with what you got from it.

[Q] whats the most stable rom now available for P1000

i just rooted my sister's galaxy tab gt-p1000 which is in gingerbread in ages now... being so frustrated she decided to let me root t and install a custom rom, rooting done now my next step is to put a good, smooth, versatile rom into the tab,.. i see some jellybean ,ics roms in the developement and frankly i dont know which one is best. nobody likes ramdom FC's so i hope i can find a rom that is stable too.
query: i was wondering if i flashed the CM9 ics for p1tab. do i just flash straight from gingerbread to cm9 ics? where can i get the gapps too?
You know xda doesn't allow "best rom" question.
You try out the roms and make your own decision.
About flashing ics, you need cwm recovery.
Gapps here
http://goo.im/gapps
Cm9 is ics.
Cm10 is jb.
Grab the right version.

cool... definitly gonna try that one out... what makes this your favorite rom considering its stable?
is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523174
Sorry but I've closed this thread as has already been said, best/most stable ROM threads have no place on the forums as it's so subjective to opinion. Lots of people have different opinions and also just because a ROM is stable on one device it may not be on another as devices don't react the same.
As suggested try them out for yourself and find the one that's best for YOU as that's what matters
Thanks
