Hello,
I am plannong to flash CM 10.1 on my Fire HD but I want to use the Amazon Video services as I am a Prime member. So, is there any way I can port the Amazon Video apk on CM 10/10.1??
If yes, Pls tell me how....... Help would be nice!!
The short answer is "no." The long answer is "not without a massive amount of work to port all the framework and libraries required."
answer
Not really. Porting the .apk will not do the trick.

Hi All,
Seems like optimum (cablevision) has a app for kindle fire, that can stream cable tv, similar to the app they have for the iphone. It is available for the kindle fire on Amazon. Can someone get the apk, see if the app can be ported to android in general ?

Ok .. found the link https://www.dropbox.com/s/c7ld876le6j5pqy/com.optimum.rdvr.mobile-1.apk
thanks to the kind soul on the Kindle fire forum
App installs fine, and then once I login I get an unsupported device message
can someone please look at this and suggest a fix ? I think getting the right build fingerprint spoof would resolve the issues ??

Works great on my HTC EVO View
This APK works fine on my HTC EVO View 7" tablet.
Correction:
Now I am getting the dialog pop-up saying: "This Application is not supported in this device"
Very strange, since it did work at first and I was watching Two and a half Men.
I also installed it on a Samsung Tab 7 with the same result.
I also did see that the app was asking for superuser permissions.
Hard to believe that it needs a rooted device.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
Addition:
I cleared the data and logged in again, accepting the Terms & Conditions etc.
Then I am good to go again. Wonder for how long?
(This is on the HTC).

There is another discussion going on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785945
seems like the app rejects the device if certain build.prop parameters do not match that of the kindle fire

okay thnx man.can you tell me how to root it? and i also dont want amazon services but android app store is working like i can download app and games ?and also can i add movies and music via usb in it?
Just root your Kindle & install Play Store. That will give you access to more apps than you could possibly need.

Hello BRICS brother, I live in Brazil and bought a Kindle Fire HD last week.
Some functions simply do not work like the Amazon AppStore (requires an US credit card) but the rest works great. Reading books and comics on the new display is awesome.
After rooting and installing the Play Store the device becomes even more amazing, now I like it better than my Ipad.
Buy the new Kindle and be happy my friend!
Hello . Will rooting the KFHD will allow us to buy ebooks at later point of time thru amazon services. i may be interested as a android tablet which will allow freedom to user on downloading apps and games and also to read ebooks. will rooting would help . if so i can think of buying one. please let me know.
I've got my 8.9 KFHD rooted and installed the Google Play store.
Is there a build.prop edit that will open up the tablet to some of the incompatible apps that won't break stuff like the amazon store, or the kindle reader app?

The only workaround I've found so far is to download them on another device, copy the .apk from /data/app or /system/app and side load it. Dropbox becomes real handy for this sort of thing. Of course, not everyone has the luxury of having a second device . . .
Thanks That's what I've been doing. Thanks to a rooted Nexus 7 and a Galaxy S 3

I would like to put the CM 10.1 ROM on my Kindle Fire, but I don't want to lose Amazon Video. I'm assuming that Amazon Video doesn't work if I put a different ROM on my Fire. Is that assumption correct? Is there a way around this?
Thanks for any insight.
Funny I just installed it yesterday(amazon video)... I'm on the tablet version of cm 10.1, and I installed a version of amazon video I found laying around in the forums that is said to work on other android devices, here's the catch, the device can't be rooted, or so I have heard just like on kindles once you root it the instant video won't work, though k thought that was only prime so I am not completely sure how this affects it. So my answer that needs to be improves on is yes the app will work, as to actually watching the videos I am not sure, you may have to de-root the cm os, which I am not sure if that is a good idea. That's my 2 cents, see if anybody else can be of more use.
Edit: ever time I try to watch a free video I get a "unfortunately this program has stopped working" error
Seems like a stupid move for them to not release an android app for us to use their services, they'd rather we buy a kindle, or in this case not flash our kindle if we want to use it.

My Kindle is already rooted and prime videos work. I have the stock rom with the play store. I want to use cm 10.1, but don't want to lose amazon prime videos. It's disappointing that this is even an issue.

I have CM10.1 on my Kindle now and live abroad so I cannot even use the Amazon video store. I'm curious though - can you access the videos by logging into Amazon in the tablet's browser instead, like you would if you were on a desktop?

You can if you have flash installed and working.
I just discovered that the Kinology ROM allows the use of Amazon Video, plus all the google framework and 3rd party launchers. It's not CM 10.1, but it is better than stock.
I have CM 10.1 and live abroad, I use a VPN and Firefox to watch Amazon Prime Videos.
Hi guys, just some questions about the Kindle HDX 7".
1) I have read in some reviews that the Amazon Fire HDX has a custom, Amazon-centric OS which makes you buy things from Amazon and that you do not have access to free apps from Google play store.
Can the Kindle Fire HDX take a CM ROM and become a "normal" tablet without any links to Amazon?
2) Can the 4G version be used to make normal phonecalls and normal SMS messages?
Many thanks
I can answer part of that, we do not have the ability to flash custom ROMs on it as of yet because of the locked boot loader, but from what I know we now can at least root it, and install the Google play market on it plus custom launchers so we can kinda not have to deal with Amazon's interface. I don't know a way of making free calls off the sim or sms, I would just use the magic jacks app or something similar but that's just me.
