safe kernels? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys
i need some help,im in 4.1.2 stock jellybean rom without any modifications
and i want to install cm10.1
i want a cwm recovery so i can flash cm through it
wich is the best cm10.1 till now?
i searched but im new to this device
i just want your help for cwm recovery and best cm10.1 rom for note
thankyou for your help

Go to the cm 10.1 thread, read the installation instructions and follow them.
Go to PhilZ Kernel thread for stock kernels with CWM as a base for further installations.
This is all you need. But you have to do it yourself, please.
And "best rom" questions/threads are against XDA rules. So forget this question.

[Q] Which rom to choose now i am on Philz Safe Kernal ?

O K so i have just flashed Philz Safe Rom XXLRK-XEU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191 to my note and everything seems as it should but i am a little confused as to what roms i can apply. Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong place my head is a bit all over the place after reading a lot this morning deciding if it is safe to start rooting/flashing my note, my only previous experience of this was through odin for my sgs2 so i am new to the note scene.
Ideally i would love to put paranoid android on from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802 but i am cautious that the install logs states not to install this rom from a stock kernal which is pretty much was philz kernal is isnt it ???
if anyone can help a newbie to the note scene out i would be greatly appreciated as i am getting confused going through all the searches i have done this morning
Hope you can helpo - cheers

when you flashed Philz Safe Rom XXLRK-XEU.. your note is already rooted now.
This kernel is safe and you can flash the PA rom with no issues. Just follow the procedure in the PA thread.

Thank you - i will check it out and report back
Is this the case with all roms or just the PA rom, am i to presume that the "safe" kernal is just that and i can go and try out a few roms just as i did with my sgs2 ?
Thanks
KV3
Yes.. but when you flash a new rom, the kernel will change to whats included in the rom. In between if you choose to flash stock ICS again, need to take caution to move to safe kernel again
thanks again for the quick responses - is it best practise to always reflash a safe kernal after the rom has been installed, so in the case of me flashing PA rom i can then reflash Philz safe kernal - i am sure i will get to grips with it all there just seems to be more risks involved with the note / ICS than when i was working with my sgs2
Cheers
No. All custom roms will have a safe kernel in built. Philz won't work with custom roms as it's a stock kernel. Best is hydracore but that does not work with the JB leaks of Samsung TW
all up and running and everything seems great with the PA rom - no complaints here yet but i havent had much chance to play with things with work and all that other stuff so thanks again nokiamodeln91 i have clicked your thanks button for all your help

[Q] Help with my Galaxy Note

Hi, I need help with my Galaxy Note. I just buy secondhand Galaxy Note, it has XXLS2 4.1.1 rom for now. I want flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom on it. My previous phone was HTC HD2, so I'm used to flashing without limitation So, I need your help to tell me if I'm thing good about it. So, firstly I must flash Philz kernel for my phone, to get root and recovery. But for my rom is only version 2.7... is it safe to flash? And next I can just do full wipe, reboot, and flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom, yes?
You won't be able to flash a aokp rom using philz 2.7 as it will not install and error 7.
-Install Philz and gain root and cwm
-Then place all the required files to flash the rom to storage.
-Then flash a different safe kernel like hydracore or cm kernel.
-Boot into recovery and do wipes and formats and flash. the rom. (while on a different kernel you might not be able to boot into the rom. Just recovery)
And version 2.7 is safe? Why there is no 3.99 version for this rom? But when I finally flash PA rom, I can stay with kernel included in this rom? Or I need to flash cm kernel second time? I'm going to make backup before flashing new rom, but I'm just wondering if I can normally recover this on PA rom or I need to flash stock philz kernel before restoring... So the "diffrent safe" kernel may be "Kernel_CM10.1_20130126_Nightly_CWM.zip", yes? It will work with aosp based pa rom? I'm going to flash 2.99 version...

Yes 2.7 is safe. Just that it cannot install some roms.
Because it's and old kernel.
Yes stay with the kernel included in the rom
Yes PA has a safe kernel and the backup can be restored.
Any kernel like hydracore or cm will do.
Also 2.99 PA might not to that's stable. So.. Your choice. You can use and older version like 2.57 as well
Actually Philz 2.7 is ICS/older JB, and therefore not subject to error 7. Good to wipe and Flash ROMs with. (It's safe too)

Now i am ready to flash custom roms, and get to know from this site that http://alchemistar.blogspot.in/2012/03/samsung-galaxy-ave-s5830-rom-list.html CM10 is latest so want to flash that. Kindly please frnds help me out how to flash correctly this rom. First of all Rooting and backup of stock , Then is it necessary that i should be on custom kernel to flash this rom or can i flash on stock kernel. Is CM10 stable or it is still in construction. Thanks , help is appreciated.
Don't go for CM9/10 ROMs

Hi,
If you try to use CM 10/9 ROMs you will suffer from lags and battery drain due to following limitations of our ACE:
Less Ram (Min 512 MB req. for smooth performance with user apps installation)
Less power processor (its ARM5-787MHz only while ICS and JB need modern processors for smooth performance with user apps )
Limited battery (Only 1350MAh while ICS and JB need 1700-2000 MAh power house for a day long backup..while it also depends on user usage)
Thus, I will suggest you to flash CWM recovery 5.0.26 and then flash any CM 7.2 ROM / CUstom Stock ROMs of your choice.
Some best ROMs are :
Apo-K-lypse (new one :Genius version) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444500
Ultimatum V 3.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234221
You will get best performance, features and battery life with these ROMs.. much better than CM9/10 ROMs for our ACE.
All the best and comment again if you need any further help
Before flashing a ROM you must flash ClockWorkMod recovery. Once you installed CWM you must boot in recovery and then do the followings step:
1) wipe data/cache
2) advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
3) install zip from SD card
4) choose the zip and confirm
5) reboot
For the most stable cm10.1 I suggest you Cm10.1 by Maclaw or the last CM10.1 by androidarmv6 team.
My favourite is the second one !
These are pure CyanogenMod ROMs with no moddings. I don't like modded ROMs.

[Q] Best Running Rom These days?

Hey everyone!
I am running DDLSC Stock ROM (un-rooted) on my Galaxy Note N7000. I want to try custom ROM's on this device and firmware. Can you please answer these queries for me?
What ROM should I install?
Is it possible to install a ROM on this Firmware?
Do I need to Root my device?
Thank you for your help!
1 Try cm 10.2 as a start.
2 Yes..why not.
3 Of course you need to. Use philz kernel as per your build. I see it's ddlsc so you can flash philz_lsc and gain root. Just make sure to use the appropriate version of philz kernel as per your build. Detailed instructions are on the original thread. Just do a little search.

Hi,
if you want Tablet feeling, i advice you N8XT Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2366175
It's very smooth and fast with C.O.H Kernel. I'm using it since 2 weeks. GREAT. It's stable and also has a Touchwiz UI.
But first flash a Philz Kernel via Odin.
Thank you for the suggestions!
I am installing CM 10.2 as of now.. Will then try out a few ROMS
Thanks for the help everyone!

If you are rooted then just flash ultimatum ROM .zip file
It has AROMA installer and it will ask you which kernel to install.
If you want to flash kernel separately then you can find the files on Ultimatum ROM page itself.
Glad you replied me bro
Thanks alot for the reply..
Sir
While Flashing Kernels, Should i look into BaseBand or Something related to it. I have DDKQ8. Well this ROM supports this ? How to check that
For installing CM 10.1 or 11, Latest CWM version i required. So for installing CM 7.2 Is CWM 5.2.0.6 is enough ? or i need to upgrade ?
Waiting for ur Helping Hands..

If you are running a Stock rom, root your device and flash CWM5 and then you'll be able to upgrade your firmware
With CWM5 (Stock rom e.g.) you can flash directly CM10.x and viceversa, so:
CMW5.x >>> Stock Roms/CM7.x/CM9./CM10.x
CMW6.x >>> CM11/Omni/Android 4.4.x
