AFAIK, you can't do it through a device, because the device will mount as a FAT drive, and you need EXT format for a boot disk. Just get a card reader, they cost next to nothing...

I don't have an SD card installed yet and none of my boxes are checked. So maybe it is noting what is installed on your SD card? I'm just taking a guess.
