Hi there,
I want to ask you all how do I root my stock ICS without installing other custom roms. I just need the stock to be rooted for me to install titanium back up and unroot it after the Jellybean official arrived.
I am having a lot of problem with game save files import and export. Cause most of the game save saved locally on phone.
Any help would be grateful!

Go through Dr.Ketan's guide..you will get to know everything about rooting.
I did the same thing when I first rooted my phone. Just rooted the stock ICS & was using it. So, under development section, you will find the kernel thread in which you will see Philz kernel. Select the one which is for your ICS version & flash it via PC Odin
just install the philz kernel using recovery and you will get root.
If I want to restore back to stock kernel, what should I do? flash stock kernel again?

Yes using mobile odin..

Use Exynos Abuse.
It will work on ICS firmware only. (Not GIngerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
Its the safest, easiest and quickest method to root.

I just updated thru Kies in Hong Kong, to 4.04 JB. I tried to use the camera and I had an alert blocking the camera screen and a message bar as follows "Tap and hold shortcuts to edit them. Also combined with it where the OK button was was a text box with the words scanning media in it.
Now, its working after I played with it, first I reboot, that didn't help. Then I accidentally put it into third party mode but hit the up volume to get out of it before it went into download mode. It started to reboot but I held the up-vol, home and on button until it went to the rest screen. I tried to just wipe the cache, but it didn't do anything, moving the selector up and down worked, I tried wiping cache again, no luck, so I just reboot. After rebooting I laid the phone down and started to look for a solution in here. So I go to try the camera again to get the alert message it had, and
Wha La, the darn camera started working right, the alert blocking the screen was gone, it came up as usual for a new triggering, but it accepted my selection when I told it ok and then it went away as usual, computers, micro-processors, no matter what kind, if you have problems, some times just a long shut down to clear the electronic memory will also clear the problems.
Today after restoring a backup with recovery my touch screen died and i had to return my phone to Bel Company / Vodafone.
Because they have a crappy service (they dont't want to give me a replacemend phone) i'm out of a phone for 3 ****ing weeks
I got a feeling that it had something to do with the recovery touch kernel because i got after restoring my backup the grey triangle and got stuck there for abou 15 minutes before it rebooted. I'm not sure if that's the reason but my guts says it.
So now there will be 3 hard weeks for me without a smartphone :crying:
I have this problem 50% of the time when I switch between different kernels ,flash them thru fast boot and such. Relashing kernel that matches your kernel created by recovery always fixed the problem for me

My phone is at Vodafone now, have to wait 3 weeks before i'll get it back :crying:
After having the triangle, I noticed there are some "tad" daemon things and something about /system/etc folder permissions problem in the log. This could be related to TWRP. But nothing for warranty repair. I have the triangle everytime I forget to unmount system partition in recovery.
And the triangle appears always, when I try to change composition type.

Maybe it's trying to reflash touch firmware in some part for some reason?
See hw_config.sh.
And if you do hard restart at this point, it can break the touch firmware.
It would be safe, removing the firmware from /system/etc/firmware.

Stock firmware is the original samsung firmwares not edited not rooted not tweaked nothing
ROM could be many thing TW is like samsung based firmware but has a few extra touches like rooting some tweaks and apps that requires root stuff like that
And another kind is on CyanogenMod this sort of roms offers speed more smoothnes and lot better performance than touchwiz but still with it you cant use s-pen features like on the stock and some other bugs
And there are AOKP they are similiar in looks like CyanogenMod but with a really masive customizations available in there
So thats the main thing you should kniw

you can try wiping /system /preload /data /cache /dalvik cache and flash the stock rom again or you can try custom roms of your choice after reading from here. (dont ask which is the best, just read reviews, watch youtube videos and decide for yourself)

Look, you're having problems with the stock ROM, after the update. Now u have some choices,
1)Going back to ICS using sammobile and ODIN.
2)Flashing the PhilZ kernel using the link given by treacherous_hawk and then doing those wipes and again install JB using ODIN, like you did earlier. yes it'll wipe all the data so better back up the phone on PC before doing the wipes.
3) Use custom ROMs. You can read about the custom ROMs in the Android development forum, there are methods to root with the CWM recovery and then how to install custom ROMs.

you got the yellow exclamation mark because you used the .tar file for philz kernel. if you use the .zip file and flash it from stock recovery you automatically get root and no yellow triangle. You can remove the yellow triangle using the "triangle away" app from play store( paid version, if you consider donating) or search for free version on XDA. use that to get rid of yellow triangle.
That is the yellow triangle you've got. Don't worry mate. It's just a symbol, if u wanna get rid of it, go to the Android development forum here and there will be a thread for how to remove yellow triangle, read that. The sign is nothing to be worried about. Now you have rooted, you can flash the various custom ROMs and be extremely carefull to follow the instructions in the ROM thread before you flash.
Hmm okay guys.
So um, what should i have to do first? Wiping data and then install new stock rom or reinstall kernel firstly or what?
I was read in android dev.thread and got nothing exactly the same with my problems. I need some right step to doing stuff (philz kernel, wipe data, update new stock), so that nothing bad will happen to note.

if you are not on safe kernel, you should install safe kernel first like philz (which i guess you already did) boot into recovery mode and do all the wipes (if you do not want to save any data). put the phone in download mode connect to computer, open pc odin, click pda select the stock rom from save location and click start. Once finished put the philz kernel on ext sd card (the one corresponding to your stock rom) and go to stock recovery and install zip from ext card and select the philz kernel .zip file and you should be good to go.

If the contacts are in phone memory they would get deleted.. If you go to mounts/storage and choose the last option mount usb while connected to computer and delete everything on internal memory (not on external sd) you will be able to clear up usb storage space too but then you will lose what's app data (example)..

Ok so I had gt-s5830 for a year and a half and flashed lots of roms, but a few months ago it started doing some strange things that never happened before (all of these are on STOCK ROM, I faced it with DDKQ6 and XWKTM because I usually use these two but I bet it would do that on every firmware because it never did it before):
- when deodexing with adb permissions in /system/app always set to rw-rw-rw- instead of rw-r--r-- and it makes possible to adb-push and use system app without rebooting but it never did it before (both kq6-ktm)
- when flashing cf-root 3.7 b84 by ketut everything is fine (except for the next issue of the list), then if I try battery extender (based on cf-root b83 that also cause me this issue) it changes su command's permissions (as it says titanium backup) to wrong ones, and even if I fix them it will causes problems like soft brick if I use mobile odin and slow restore from titanium (never happened before) (both kq6-ktm)
- still on cf-root/battery extender, sometimes wifi turns on but just don't receive any data, and when it does, mobile data will not turn on anymore and offline mode gets stuck, it sometimes gets solved with a reboot but not everytime (both kq6-ktm)
- some init.d script just don't work, like on dta2sd that says to me that I need to do an a2sd repair, then swap and zipaligning at boot don't work (kq6-ktm) or even project silk and similars
- when I try to flash slaid's gpu rendering patch my phone just don't make it to reach even bootanimation and I need to reflash the whole firmware
these are the main problems I'm getting that never happened before... is it normal so I can do something to fix it or my phone just need to be changed because is getting old?

The problem is the stock rom itself & not your phone. When you root your stock using upd_1.zip & you flash an alternative kernel to support init.d scripts, the root begins to act weird. All I can say is, root on stock is unstable for changes. You can either keep complete stock or you can just flash a custom rom. Or if you root the stock, you'll have to keep changes within the limits.

Also as far as I know, su doesn't integrate well into the stock ROMs. Try freeing up some space in system by deleting some bloatware. Try using SD maid pro. Finally, try a fix permissions via recovery. Probably this might solve your problem.

Dear all;
Today i finally decided to unlock the bootloader and s-off the device..but after these..my wifi was not working ...and still stucked at the turning on wifi phase.
Factory reset wiping cache did not help
I found out that i should flash a newnstock rom...but to be honest i did not find the stock 4.3 for the european device (ruu).. i found some zips but the recovery stopped at verifying package when i said install from phone...so to be honest i have no clue how to proceed
How to flash it what to do? The guides are not always complete or the links were not working... i need help i will post the info on my device..
Would you be so kind and tell me what to do?
In details of course)
Thank you very very much

Umh, download from mike's thread the stock rom and flash this.
Or flash only the boot.img from fastboot.
Seems a kernel "issue"

Umh, download the stock rom from mike's thread.
Now, do a nandroid backup from recovery and after flash the rom.
I think there isn't any stock rom for your version main, so the easiest solution is this
However, you've tried to erase the cache from fastboot with the command: fastboot erase cache
??

Well i tried the wipe cache/ factory reset etc etc..
In the morning (cause its 2:23 am) i will try the nandbackup(although i have no clue about that) and then a 4.3 stock flash would be reasonable or not?
Thanks

Defo kernel issue.
- Get odexed from here
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.no/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html?m=1
Or whatever you desire
- Put the downloaded Rom on to your SD.
- Enter cwm/twrp recovery and do a nand (=backup of current ROM)
- install zip of new stock Rom.
Reboot when done.
Either this or just flash bulletproof kernel from flar. see if it gets sorted.

Well I installed TWRP, did a backup, with the default selection, after that I booted, and copied the files.,
Then I copied the odexed file to the device, booted into recovery, and installed it.
Now Wifi Works , and everything is on the "latest" release and still stock.
My question is:
What ROM-s can I try out? Only Odexed? Or Google Editions as well (from the link you provided) and if yes...
I just make a backup from the current setup, and copy it, and then recovery from the backup am I right?
But mainly my problem has been solved... So thank you very much !
Odexed or deodexed, whatever rocks your socks.. if you are gonna do some themeing of icons you need deodexed.
You are S-off and are free to flash loads of stuff.
Google edition? Sure test it out if you want to.
Sure, just back up current Rom and keep it safe on your phone if you can. Any problems occurs you can just restore it.
