[q] htc one x hanging on 'quietly brilliant' - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All.
How Can I get my pictures off my poorly One X?
Really need help with my 1x. It switched itself off the other day in my pocket and now it hangs on the 'quietly brilliant' screen and wont start up. I have rooted it and it has clockworkmod recovery v5.8.2.7 on it- I didnt put a custom rom on it, just rooted it.
I am unable to mount USB storage through clockworkmod as I am getting 'unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory)' error. I had hoped that if i could mount the usb, i could at least access the sd through my pc to transfer pictures from my phone. I am really at a loss now. I was wondering if it could be a battery issue (i have had it on charge for sometime but on the hboot screen it says 'battery level is too low to flash'). I really dont know what to do now. if i cannot connect via usb to pc, then i have no way of trying to transfer pics and files or un-rooting or transferring and img files to try some sort of re-flash.
In CWM recovery, i have browsed for zip files and can see all the folders there so i assume all my pictures are also still present.
The pictures are the most important to me as they are holiday pics. I would, of course, just like the phone to work again but at the very least, be able to get my pics off it.
Any help much appreciated guys. Thanks, Pete.

how about in the link he provided?

In the One X section you will found a lot of guide and file for save your phone and re-use it!
There is a fastboot file that will charge your battery in fastboot for flash a rom or for unlock your bootloader if it is locked.
So, see the link

You thread is in the wrong Q&A section.
You had to write here, the Q&A section of the One X

put that file you downloaded on the root of your sdcard, rename it to update.zip or just update in windows. power off your phone. hold home and power to boot your phone into the recovery console. press alt and l to show text if none is showing, then press alt and s to apply update.zip from sdcard. when it is done, press home and back to reboot.
1. there are stickies for a reason.
2. a development forum is not a place for a question not directly related to development (and then most questions should not be posted there)
3. you have just been told.
4. sadly for you, i am about as nice as they get.

no, that is only for when you downgrade to rc-29, after you have downgraded you can remove the DREAIMG.nbh from your sdcard (i would keep it on my computer though for future use.)
at the top when i hit alt + l it said error cant open E:/ cahe / something or other ... am i in trouble?
also, everyone is always talking about flashing this and flashing that on here, is that all you do is download the rom and rename as update and boot the phone? every damn how to thread seemed quirky ...

is your sdcard formatted to fat32? also is the whole name of the file update.zip?
yeah i reformatted to fat32 ... i had everything right and then all of a sudden i couldnt locate a link that worked for cynaogen (sp?) 4.0.4 or whatever so i said screw it and wanted to unroot it ...
btw, the update worked i have 1.5 now, but it still said that at the top after alt + l ... i dunno

don't know about the error then
i have a link for 4.0.4 and 4.1.11.1 on my 4shared account
man do i sound like i know what a 4shared account is, or where to find it? ... thanks for the help btw ... i thought this forum was dead but i guess there are some people who post in here frequently ...
o one last thing, the reason why i ultimately decided to unroot is because when i started with the recovery image i believe and i entered the SU at the beginning of the code is said access denied ... i searched the forum and it said download something else but that link was dead as well ...
i dont know if youre a mod david but i think it would be useful to create one thread where you can flash to look exactly like the iphone ui ... i'm talking an all inclusive with the most basic of directions and detailed commands ... there are a few in depth all encompassing reviews but a simple thread named "Hero For G1" with everything you need would help a lot ...
thanks again ...
edit... can i remove the zip file "update" from my sd card now?

nawh i am not a mod, 4shared is like mediafire or rapidshare. its just a place you can upload files to and give put links to it. the reason all the links are dead now are because of all the recent crap between google and cyanogen. i am not really all that good at making tutorials (i lose steam about halfway through)
also the update.zip file is no longer need.
if you want to root your phone again, i can pm you all the files and you can use the one click root method in my sig.
also as far as i am aware there is no iphone theme or ui really available though there could be an app on the market that emulates it.

I ^%%* it up

Guys, I don't have the original image and the only image I have on my SDcard is eclair 2.0-1.2
I am just upset with the OP for providing insufficient instructions and I am very unaware of the previous setup required before doing it so.
I am in recovery mode and my G1 keeps rebooting over and over since I wipe the factory default.
I apologize for not using the search button because I don't see any answers, or maybe I just want direct answer.
Sorry, I have to ask this, how do I recover the image on my G1? I have it connected to my PC but it's currently in recovery mode right now.
Please provide me detailed step to step what I need to do. Thank you for your time and effort, this is upsetting me big time.

Stop blaming the guys making the ROMS for your own F-up.
Learn to read the instructions.

Don't blame them for the fact you didn't read THIS :
first you will need these things haykuro spl,ext3/linux-swap if you dont have it and if you do wipe them clean
The please provide links for those kinds of software.
I am really upset that no one will help me

You should be upset at yourself for not reading the clear instructions that are inherent in nearly every ROM update procedure. READ the instructions.

Searching forums before diving blindly into processes like these will certainly save you frustration and a bricked device. Again, blaming someone else for your laziness isn't exactly the route you should take.

If u r using stock recovery u should b serching for something like Fastboot or adb, if u using cyan's or RA's recovery that just find different room to flash. It would b nice to know Phones specs...SPL, Radio, REcovery etc. just like what i got in my sig.
For future references post in Q&A thread or where is the ROM u flashed is, Provide some info if u need help.
I am using standard recovery. I tried Droid Explorer and no luck.

Since you're too cocky and too ignorant to do most of the things on here, I suggest you put your phone back to stock as soon as you figure out how to flash images. Get the "recovery image" from here http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html, then go ahead and get a card reader, drop the file on the reader, rename it update.zip, boot into recovery, alt+s to flash it, alt+w to wipe, then reboot.

ok then go here and set up adb after u done follow the link in my sig to flash RA 1.5.2 recovery. After u get RA recovery find the rom u need to flash id suggest Cyans rom or WG and make sure ur SPL and RAdio is uptodate.
Good luck.

Brutal,
Me and Ace42 spent around 2 pages in manups thread trying to help only to be told '**** You' we have given him all the links to help him yet still he does not listen and proceeds to be rude and obvoxious.
I think he is looking more for someone to do it all for him rather than using the information already given out to help himself.
All I can say is good luck, your gonna need it!

Nexus one stuck at X symbol (stock GB and no root)

I couldn't find anything similar to this issue so thought of having some Help!
I have my friend's Nexus one which is stuck on the X symbol (one that initially appears during booting). I've read about this issue with people trying to flash new rom's, but this particular phone is on stock GB and not rooted. The bootloader appears to be locked since my friend never knew that such a thing existed.
I can boot into recovery and fastboot and further any action brings it back to the colored X logo. Connecting the device via USB is not helpful and I can't even access the internal memory of the device.
Any suggestion in restoring the phone will be helpful.
Thanks
Abhi

Have you tried to remove the SD card and reboot without the SD card to see if the phone can boot? If the phone can boot then the SD card is damaged. Or try to wipe data/factory reset in recovery and then reboot. Before doing full wipe, try the remove SD card method and see if it works.

The SD card appears good since I can read data on a computer. And yes, I've done the factory rest without the SD card before trying to reboot it. Promptly, the phone gets back to the X logo.

Someone had the same issue as yours, review those posts http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1422897.html to see they help solve your problem.
Read the Wiki, section "unroot/restore".
Or unlock the bootloader, flash custom recovery, and flash any ROM you want (including stock, if you want).

I've tried the options available on the Wiki section. Here are the problems:
1) I tried to unlock the bootloader using command prompt (with ADK and all the necessary drivers installed) but it just displays "searching for device" and does nothing more than that.
2) I'm not sure if I can flash the FRG83 ROM, they have mentioned that downgrading an SCLD device will brick it.
(Sorry if I'm understanding things wrongly, I'm trying to restore an android for the first time and after reading the loads of posts across the web I'm looking for some help here)

1. You didn't install the necessary drivers, and your phone isn't found by fastboot. Your mistake. Correct it.
2. Wiki contains EXACTLY what's needed. "They" was me, and I wrote these specific words: "Legacy information". Which means - irrelevant to the rest. The warning in red doesn't have anything to do with the guide above, and the guide covers ALL N1s, SLCD and AMOLED.
This phone exists for over 2 years now. Do you think that everything you can come up with hasn't been covered?

[Q] Tough One - Hung on Samsung Logo, no recovery mode - must keep pics!

Basically my phone is stuck on the GT-N7000 Samsung Logo screen.
Would love if somebody could make my day and tell me how I can restore my phone with it's pictures.
I know this is not as simple as it sounds but I have read a thread that explains something about non-wiping ROMs / upgrade ROMs? Is this true?
Notes:
I have a stock ROM (I bought the phone via Amazon Germany though).
Never tried to place another ROM onto phone.
I cannot go into recovery mode.
I am able to go into download mode.
I have heard of this ODIN but not familiar.
Heeelp!

If you do not want to listen and do not want to read yourself (at least the first few posts with the tutorials) then why do you cry for help?
And answer in such an idiotic behavior?
Don't you think that it is this way of ignorance that is resulted in your "bricked" device?

Are you kidding me!? You're honestly a senior member? Calling my response idiotic is probably a little ironic. Let me explain why...
Firstly, I'm not going to waste too much of my time replying to you but my concern was that during the 501 pages of the thread something may changed from the start, I can't be sure how accurate the first posts are, which I feel is a valid point 1.
As for the bricked device, the phone became bricked itself due to no fault of my own, other people have experienced the same thing, I have avoided popping ROM's onto the phone to avoid voiding my warranty, I did not tamper with anything, this is valid point 2.
If you have nothing positive to contribute to this thread please refrain from adding any further comments, or take a chill pill and use a little empathy senior member.
I should also add that:
- I eeked at the 501 pages - I was not being condescending.
- I believe that there is a difference between ROM's that completely flash the whole memory and upgrade ROM's that will retain, hence why I asked the question, about 'upgrade' ROM's.
If you want to pull the pictures from the phone internal memory you can use a pc program called adb.exe, but you need to be in download mode.

Except he is right. This has been discussed. You're method is to read that thread. This is a website (or at least is supposed to be) for users that are willing to read the guides people have slaved to create
Everything you need to know is there.
And absent hardware failure, a phone doesn't brick itself.
Read dr.ketan thread on how to flash a stock ROM via PC Odin from download mode. The guide is current. This is the only answer you will receive here.

Thanks Ranger Captain! Much appreciated. I'll look into this!
The expert on adb.exe is a user nemed studacris. I think it would be ok to PM him and get the specifics of the command.
Roughly, connect the phone to the pc in download mode, open a command window, navigate to your adb directory, type adb device to confirm the connection, then type adb pull \directory name\all files /directory on pc and the files will transfer from the internal phone memory to your pc.

When you come across a 501 page thread and say the answer is there and current for people who are willing to read there is a bit of a problem here.
I was hoping a tech Guru on here who is familiar with my problem could help summarise key points relevant to my problem.
I am willing to concede after some of you have eluded to much of the information is in the first few pages. Thank you.
As for bricking - there has been corruption of what seems to be the firmware, which not is of the question, what point are you making? If you read a few other threads, others have experienced similar issues with attempting to update their ROM's.

When you come across a 501 page thread and say the answer is there and current for people who are willing to read there is a bit of a problem here.
I was hoping a tech Guru on here who is familiar with my problem could help summarise key points relevant to my problem.

Hey man. All you need to do is read the first post of dr.ketan's thread. Good luck. If flashing a stock ROM via PC Odin doesn't work, per the isnstructions on that thread, I will personally be more than glad to help. But that IS your first step.
There is nothing to summarize. Follow the procedure in that thread OP. You don't have to read ANY of the thread except the guide. If it doesn't help you get up and running, feel free to PM me or post here. But when someone tells you to read a thread you must realize they are probably referring to the Original Post. If you are told to search (xda users rule #1), then that is a different story. For example, if you said 'how do I Use an OTG cable', I would say 'search this thread for the keyword otg'. Nevertheless, that is not the case here. There is a specific guide in the OP of that thread that describes what your first step to fix your device should be. Once that has been exhausted, please feel free to ask for further guidance.
Take care and good luck.

I have seen that this is something that I need to sit down and concentrate on however I have not had a spare moment. I will have a crack at over the next few days and feedback in...most likely I will have more questions but watch this space!

I was reading. There is something not quite clear. Although the thread tells you a lot about how to do something, it doesn't say what it does or what it's for.
I've downloaded the software but further threads highlight that data may still be deleted.
Would you mind advising of how the thread can ensure that my data will not be deleted?

Which data you refer to?
Question: is your data nor backed up via Google?
As for SD card data, like photos, is that what you're talking about?

Need Help Restoring HTC: No OS, No TWRP Recovery

So I wanted to revert back to HTC Sense, but not enough careful reading caused me this, which I've been working on for hours now. I was on Cynogenmod before. Phone is S-ON, unlocked, and has TWRP installed, but the problem is there is no recovery. The other big problem is there is also no OS. Phone also is not detected by computer, so I can't just drag a file onto the phone and flash it again. Is buying a USB OTG cable the only option at this point?
This is the most common question asked about here, why not do some research about it?
same here, i have recovery but its not helping much. no OS and cant get in Download Mode to flash via Odin.

ODIN is for Samsung, this is HTC.
At the top of the Q&A section is a welcome message, and several stickies, may I invite you to start reading there
in particular the Frequently Asked Question sticky, and on page 3 you would see the answers you're looking for.
Alternatively, almost every other thread in here has the same situation, so please remember forum rules, and search and read.
Good luck, and post any other questions you may have here (please do not post in the FAQ sticky!!)
