Hi mate,
Download freemake video converter to your pc and convert them! It can convert just about anything and then simply copy over to your sd card always works for me Although mx player can play almost anything so that should just play them.....what are you format are u converting from/to?

Hiya,I get can't play video, the strange thing is I have 3 other videos I put on ages ago one is an avi,the other two are mp4 and they play fine. I've tried to replicate there format by reencoding using same settings such as frame rate bitrate ect but still no joy. I'm using imtoo ultimate to encode

Right. CM10.1 (in fact all ICS/JB builds) don't support .avis by default (not entirely sure why). Have you tried alternative video apps (and codecs if you need them)? When I used JB roms using other apps played my .avis fine...

I've used the default video player and mxplayer and vlc. What confuses me more is like I said I do have some videos on my phone already which play in all 3,Avi's and mp4. Can u recommend any good encoders at the moment I use I too video ultimate. Having tried any other but there so many. Thanks for your help by the way.

Using Doc's Froyo 2.2 JPO full package. Had no lag at all.

i have avatar 720p mkv and it plays well on the default video player without any lags or problems when i was in eclair and even now on froyo
Im using stock rom and it lags with market players and I only get audio with stock player. That's with the cars trailer 720p. Any fix for this without using a custom rom?

TBH it worked fine on my stick 2.1 when i got the phone from t-mobile using the stock video player so i cant see a reason why you have issues. Could always try a full factory hard reset and see if that improves it.

I'm pretty sure a hard reset isn't the answer. I mean just to get those videos playing, it cant be. There has to be a simple soloution.

Is it on the internal SD or on an external?
720p MKV and MP4 worked on mine off external sd on both 2.2 and 2.1.
Could try re encoding the video with something like Hamster which is freee
Mine are on the externel sd card. N wouldn't re encoding the video change the quality?

It does you have to select the camera folder on SD card and will search for media files in that directory
Thanks. Best player!
Works the same as Rock Player for me. RockPlayer decodes 720p (mkv) fine but theres no audio. Regular .avis have sound
Definitely nice video player though, I'll keep it
As usual, can't play anime mkv videos without doing slow-mo. I think vlc is the only third party app that can compete with the galaxy player.

1. When I connect my Nexus S to my computer what folder/directory should I be putting my video files in?
2. When I start moboplayer on my Nexus S, I am also confused about which folders I should choose. Also, when I start moboplayer I get "there's no SD card, make sure it is usable".
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Highly recommend using dice player for best HD playback becasue it uses hardware acceleration unlike mobo, rockplayer..ect
But to your question
you manually select what folder you want it to scan i made a folder called Movies..also dont use the one in OP its now available on the market

You were really vague in answering my question though. I am not new to computers but I am new to this. Do I have to modify (root) my Nexus for this to work?
For instance I connect my Nexus S to my laptop and can get the "removable disk (H" option in my computer. Can I make any folder within there and call it "movies"?
OR is there a specific sub folder I need to be in?
Thanks for your help.

hey
i downloaded rock player but when i play the movie using rock player the volume of the movie being played is pretty less... is there any player which is better than the rock player and which has high volume?
MX Video Player is by far the best video player on Android IMO.
It was the only player that could play 720p MKV with subtitles without any kind of lag, problems with subtitles or sound. You can also change between audio-tracks.
It also got a the prettiest interface.
while i love CM7 it's a pain that i can't use mkv files like i could when i had samsung based rom.
is there anyway to solve it?
or do i have to use some other player do watch mkv files with subs
Try rockplayer. Its in the market the free vs comes with ads but work flalessly
Using rockplayer is what is recommended on CM7 FAQ but I never got mkv to work with the player either. I tried hardware render but it crashes out the phone and software render lags. This happened on any version of CM7 from last Feb. to testing out build 22 - 26.

x2 moboplayer works great
Hi all,
I've looked around but I guess we will have to accept the fact that the N7 falls short when it comes to media playing capabilities.
The other day me and a friend were comparing 2 awesome devices, my N7 and his S3.
The S3 handles most formats of video without any issues and even features an amazing PIP feature that lets you see videos on desktop or over other apps without lagging the system.
The N7 on the other hand can hardly play any worthy media formats. I downloaded some HD YouTube devices in mp4 format via tubemate app but couldn't play any of those with hardware and software rendering.
I couldn't even play my 720p movies that the S3 or the galaxy tab handles like a baby.
I'm guessing there might be some way to watch movies otherwise it seems an awful waste of the multi core processor and gpu.
Looking forward to your feedback / comments
Not really sure what's happening on your end, but I can play all files perfectly smooth. Though only up to 720p mkvs so far. I'm using BSPlayer by the way.
I've yet to find a video file I couldn't play, though I also haven't pushed past 720p mkv files. Mostly using MoboPlayer and the VLC Beta. What are you using for a video player?
Yeah, you have to install bsplayer litehttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bsplayer.bspandroid.free

Just got my nexus yesterday (first android device ) and tested a few media players, there are a number that have hardware decoding and can play pretty much anything.
I've settled on using "DicePlayer" as its the only one I found that still supports DTS, it also supports smb natively so no file manager needed.
You need to install "DicePlayer" and "DicePlayer Plugin" if you want DTS then you need to follow the advice in the thread below (simple process)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769799
Having no trouble at all playing 1080p mkv over smb very impressed
OK now on sure there's something wrong at my end. No wonder I was so frustrated. I have tried all of the above players but not able to play high def files. My device is stock, unrooted and otherwise running awesome. YouTube HD works great but if I download the same video, it doesn't play past a few seconds on software rendering. On hardware rendering there's no video.
Do me a favor, download Katy Perry's Wide Awake video using the tubemate android app. Select a high resolution and see if you can play it. Thatwill answer a lot many questions
Agree on DicePlayer, it has always been the best for me on tegra 3 devices.
The video playing capability on the nexus should exceed that of the s3. Thats where the quad-core comes in handy.
If you want the "PIP", or floating video window on the nexus look for Stick It on the play store.
There was a video on youtube that I cant find now. They tried to see how many stick it windows they could get opened before the prime was out of memory and gave up. They got to somewhere around 14 or so seperate windows all playing different videos. good times.

I'm not installing an app I don't want but I did download "Katy Perry's Wide Awake" in 1080p from the KatyPerryVEVO channel, played it over smb from my pc in dice player and it worked fine and was hardware decoded.
Of course you need "DicePlayer Plugin" for HW decoding

If you mean you can only find "DicePlayer plugin for tegra2" that's what I was referring to.
I cant post links yet on here due to my low post count
Yup. OK installing the tegra 2 plugin and retrying. Will update in a bit

OK, installed the tegra 2 plugin and still the same issue. The player stops at exactly the same spot, around a minute or so. Tried with 2 different videos. I'm guessing now that there is something wrong in the app that I'm using to download these videos since its difficult to imagine that such a great device would lack here.
Funny thing is, same videos are playing flawless on my Desire HD

Sounds like you have an app installed that is causing problems.I know the ultimate rotation app many use to get a tablet ui caused the same effect on my n7.Once I got rid of it I have never had another problem with any video.I use the BS player and it plays about anything I have come across. jmo
I dont have ultimate rotation. I use adw to get landscape home. Tried BSplayer too but let me try again just to be sure

I suggest you look at MX Video Player with the ARMv7 codec pack. Both are free and available on the market. Plays everything I've ever thrown at it. Every once in awhile something looks funky and to resolve it I switch it to S/W decode mode.
Anyways, I hope that helps.

As the title suggests, I'm unable to stream video, this all happened after upgrading from CM9 to CM10. I've tried different apps, YouTube, TED, Netflix, neither work.
I can watch regular videos just fine, including 720p.

Did you tried those streaming videos on any other phones as well.
Yes, the videos work fine on other devices...
I am able to watch clips stored on my phone, regular files, and I am able to watch clips on other devices (watched some 720p videos from my laptop with MX Player)
I am unable to stream video whether they are in the browser, the YouTube app; TED Talks app; Netflix app, or anything else.
What happens when I try is the thing loads, the duration of the clip is shown in the progress bar, but it refuses to play, just goes in an endless loop of looking like the buffering is finished.

I don't think you understand.
I don't have a problem with regular video clips (which is what vplayer does), i have a problem solely with streaming video.

Hi. First of all, did you fix permissions when you installed cm10? Was it a clean install? If so, try to stream your videos over WiFi, not over EDGE network. A few months ago I was unable to watch you tube videos on my PC and on my phone over WiFi (over 3G network it worked) and I called my ISP after that, in 2 days everything was just like before. YouTube worked again. So, it may be a problem with your ISP too (if using WiFi from home although is less probable).
Ultimately you can try dalvik/cache wipe and reinstall cm10 or try a different ROM, maybe it's gonna solve the problem.
I hope this helps.
Naw it wasn't a clean install (when going from CM9), I did the usual dalvik wipe but that was it. I was going to do a clean install once CM10 stable came out anyway, so I guess I'll take your advice and do a proper upgrade now...
The problem is persistent btw, wifi or 3g doesn't make a diff, but lets see what happens after the wipe.
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
So I did a proper install: full wipe, installed cm10 stable, and flashed semaphore kernel 2.6.0.
After restoring my backup, everything worked. YouTube, TED, Netflix, regular video playback, all good.
Then today, no go, video playback works, but streaming video in either apps no longer works.
The only difference between today and before is that I tried using H/W+ decoder in MX Player, could that have broken it somehow?
Before posting I fixed permissions and rebooted, no change.
Ideas?
