I had this problem with YouTube and imdb app then I found the solution in some forum. It looks like it's a codec problem. Just install "mx player arm 7 codec" even if you don't have mx player installed and reboot.

I have a galaxy S i9000 with cyanogenmod 9 on it.
I'm having problems running avi files, when I try to play some film or anything avi it plays the sound but no image!!! Sometimes the video nor even open.
i've tried with a lot of players like Mxplayer but still doesnt work..
PLEASE!! I NEED HELP!!

If you are trying to play videos from gallery, there might be problem like this... just play it straight from mx player app, it should work fine

in which format you are playing? IF in 720p+ than its impossible to run HD videos in Ace phone properly cuz Ace's hardware doesn't contain 720p+ playback and neither a .flv videos codec.
Does anybody else have issues playing x265 movies? I have a t810 and I have tried using vlc and mx player.
No issues, have you tried the original "video" app?

Just use the default Video app. Works wonders.
Turns out the default app does work better but it still doesn't play correctly.
Just updated to MM, and found that when I clicked a video file (.avi or .mp4) from a networked drive (via ES Explorer), the google video player is launched even though I have MX player installed. There is no option to open it with MX Player. On LP, it used to launch MX Player. Any recommendations?
Could be an issue with es explorer. Everything I've tried opening with root explorer has given me the option of what to use.
Something else to try. The default app may be set to the video player. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling mx player to see if that'll trigger the picker.
Just clear the default on your Google video player.
I will add that I had to turn hardware+ mode off on mx player. With it on I was getting a lot of speaker popping and crackling even if I wasn't over the max volume.
Are you using the released version or the latest beta? I believe the beta has some specific M fixes.

MX Player Pro 1.8.0 nightly which was released on 2015.11.27 is most stable version of mx player. You can download from onhax. Net
