ProtectYour Bubble - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am thinking about getting some insurance to cover my One, I was talking to a guy in a shop about his HOX the other day (I sold it to him) and he said that he dropped it in his kitchen sink and got it replaced through his insurance with 'Protect Your Bubble'.
Has anyone got any experience with them or used them before?
Any stories or feedback would be awesome!
Thanks,
T-L-H

I have not heard anything bad about them but speak to your home insurer because they may offer a cheaper deal for a small increase in your home premium.
Also, my bank (Natwest) give me free mobile insurance for having an Advantage Gold account. Lots of other benefits from having that account makes it a bargain (free car breakdown cover and travel insurance etc). Maybe your bank can help you.

+1 for getting a bank account which includes mobile insurance for a monthly fee. Works out to be really good especially if you use the other benefits that come with the account (travel insurance, breakdown cover etc).

I've not heard good things about them but them I suppose you never see the good reviews.
Reports of them making you jump through hoops to complete your claim then never paying out.
I used to use them, no problems but then I never had to use them (infact I've never needed to claim on insurance) but after swapping to my One they upped the premium so I decided to cancel and just put that money aside. If I ever drop/break/get my phone stolen I'll just used the money saved to buy a new one.

Recommendation for Insurance on My Kaiser ?

Looking to get some insurance for my Kaiser in the event of stolen/loss/accidental damage. Can anyone recommend any that is based in the UK based on there own experiences.
Cheers
gave up on insurance here. had it on my Imate Kjam and they wouldn't compensate me when I lost it. So cancelled it after I bought this.
I am with CUSC foneguard, they offer a new replacement if yours cannot be repaired. I found many of the companies google finds to be all the same, just differant websites all offering the same thing.
Check out CUSC and see if its any good for you, I found them to be quite helpful however they will want you to pay the full years cover due to the high cost of replacement.
Hi
Remember the only reason insurance companies offer insurance is overall they make money from it, so instead of them making a profit, be your own insurance company and profit instead
Either offer yourself free premiums, or charge yourself and put the money in savings account somewhere.
Do this with any domestic item you purchase by never buying an extended warranty or insurance plan, and you save far more than you will ever claim from yourself.

Insurance for your AT&T Tilt

I just contacted safeware.com and purchased PDA insurance for my AT&T Tilt for $52.00/annually. They repair/replace the device up to $550.00. Since AT&T doesn't even offer you the option of insurance, it certainly is worth the $4.30/month for piece of mind.
Any Luck With This Insuance?
I was wondering if anyone has used this service and has had any luck with it?
I was able to get mine coverd for $650 under my house ins with a $0.00 deductable. It was about $45-55 per year... maybe check into that.

What about SquareTrade insurance? They send me an email with 35% off. Anyone with any experience with them?

I've used SquareTrade, but not for a phone. Last week I just made a claim on my amp. They're giving me my money back, minus shipping charges. They seem pretty good and it was a seem less process.

Not sure if anyone else is using safeware but I decided to try them. Since I'm in NY they have a discounted rate for NY folks (surprising). It's $52.00/year with a $50.00 deductible. Not bad for piece of mind if I break it by accident. Worse case I'm out $102.00 for 1 replacement.
This "Insure the Tilt" begs the question: "Why?"
I've had the unfortunate experience of having three different people drop mine three times onto a tile floor in a hospital. Nothing broke. Still works too.
Had someone else broke it, would it have been covered by the policy and would I have been able to collect from them or the person who broke it? If not, just fork over another $300 and get another rather than pay $60 year for insurance.
I'm wagering I'll replace it with another within two years time anyway. So marches technology. Why again, pay $60 to be locked into what will soon be old technology?

Can you currently buy this phone without a new contract for $300? Wouldn't we have to buy it at full price as a replacement?
FYI, my homeowners policy will not insure a phone if it is under $400. Since I got mine for <$200, it does not qualify. Also, my wife's iPhone missed it by $1

You're not locked into anything... it's renewable each year. I purchase my phone for $300.00 from AT&T. Replacing the phone will cost $500.00 as you can't get the phone for $300.00, at least not from AT&T. The insurance also covers theft, accidental damage, cracked screen, etc. I rather pay the $52.00 for 1 year and have piece of mind if I do drop my phone or something falls on it/etc. I may not be lucky as you to drop it a number of times and nothing breaks. For me it's worth it at least for the 1st year. After that I'm sure the prices of the phone will drop so no need to renew.
I can buy the Tilt from ATT for $276 with no contract (using my business account @ 45% off).
Do these insurance companies just pay "cash" for the replacement or do they send out a new phone?
Unfortunately the average user doesn't have a business account. Would be nice though.
As for the replacement they send out a new phone. Most likely a refurb as HTC/AT&T does the same for in-warranty replacement.
I just got the ATT Tilt from ebay few days ago. I have not really used it yet. I am going to check with safeware about the insurance policy.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I just checked the safeware.com to get a quote. They did not have an option for "cell phone". I selected "laptop" with the coverage of $600. It turns out the annual cost is $69 with $100 deductible.
How did you get the coverage for your cell phone? by calling them? or do it online?

So you effectively spend $169 per year for a replacement Tilt?
In a year, AT&T will probably sell them for $50 just to get people online with a data plan.
Remember when you had to pay for a Motorola Razr phone? Some places they're free now with a plan.
You have two companies for the Cell phone insurance.

Con- read the below and also read the contract. What a useless contract, they don't cover any defects or break down from use, plus tons of other crap about environemental variables, basically it is only loss insurance or if you smash your phone, which you'd have to do if it stopped working to get it covered.
Thank you very much for the inquiry. A damp environment refers to the actual environment in which a unit is used in. For example, a unit is kept in a greenhouse which has higher than normal amount of humidity, and due to the constant exposure, internal parts begin to rust. A liquid spill however, is a single physical event which causes the unit not to function, which is not caused by the environment. The electrical breakdown refers to electrical components which stop working over time, whether it is caused by a faulty part or simply wear and tear. Similar to the other explanation, a power surge is a single physical event which damages the unit. A surge hits the unit and burns out components or parts. I hope that this helps explain the difference, but please do not hesitate to contact me if any further clarification is required.

Subject: Question about service
I’ve reviewed the portable electronics agreement on your site; these appear to be contradictory based on interpretation.

Accidental damage is defined as an unexpected and unintentional external event, resulting in physical damage to the insured equipment. Examples of accidental damage include, but are not limited to Drops, Falls, Collisions, and Liquid Spills.

Power Surge
Comments
A liquid spill(#9) could be considered a damp environment(B4)
The failure of an electronic device is a type of “electrical breakdown” (B3) and would be an unintended, hence an accident(#9). Power surge is also a type of electrical breakdown(B3).
Can you please clarify as to what is actually covered or not covered in the contract terms.
Thank you

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it cost more than $400 to get a replacement from AT&T without a new contract if it were rendered inoperable ?
My homeowners covered mine at a recplacement cost of $600 and I'm paying $30/yr. I know that renter's insurance is cheap and will cover it and more.

Yes. The replacement cost was irrelevant to them. Don't try to make sense of it.

Ebay experiences, need some answers

Hello everyone, I have some stuff to sell, as well as a couple of others I would like to purchase. Is purchasing and selling through ebay safe? I really don't want to sign up for Paypal, so do you think it would be possible to conduct business without a need for Paypal? Thanks
You need PayPal for eBay that's just how it works... As far as safe goes I've never had a bad eBay experience and I have bought upwards of 50 items.

follow the "tips for sellers" and tips for "buyer and seller protection" and u should be cool with paypal
ud be much safer if u do paypal only , as most scammars use other methods .
also , if a guy with -1, 0 , 1 or 2 bids an unreasonable amount on your stuff , it should raise a huge red flag in your head(too good to be true)
eBay is perfectly safe and i've bought and sold lots of things. Paypal is safer than other payment options. If you do have any problems you contact paypal or ebay and they will deal with it.
If it wasn't safe million of people wouldn't be using it.
Having recently bought and sold a few things on ebay, I would definitely recommend it!
So long as you put some effort in to your sales (good quality pictures, and good descriptions) then you are bound to sell.
Just be wary of VERY new users, and those with no activity in the last year or so.
I was selling my Galaxy S on ebay, and had to list it THREE times because scammers had won the auction. and then tried sending me fake paypal emails and getting me to send the item whilst 'payment was processed with Western Union'
I would suggest that you ONLY accept payment via paypal, and that you take control of your auction.
I cancelled the bids of people I didn't trust, ended the auction early and sold to the current high bidder. £20 less, but it was clear from their ratings that they could be trusted.
I've been buying stuff at ebay. I got this phone there too.
Paypal is required if you want to be entitled to the Buyer's Protection Program.
Haven't tried selling though.

Im currently hooked on ebay......
Sold my old N95 and a W850i....... Reinvesting the money in "broken" phones...
Just look at the user feedbacks, a lot of people ask that users with a low number of feedbacks dont bid on their items. You could try that but beware you may be excluding genuinely honest people who just dont use ebay very much.
Paypal allows you to claim back you money if you dont receive an item as well so its not really a bad thing. You dont have to give them your bank details either if you dont want to.
If your selling high value items then take a not of serial numbers etc..
In case some twat tries to get a refund on his broken down crap and keep the working one you sent him.

Anybody Else Buy Their HTC One at Best Buy?

I am extremely happy I got the phone yesterday after pre-ordering on the 5th, but Best Buy really left a sour taste in my mouth. First off, they did not recognize my entry in their "Phone Freedom" program which offered a $50 gift card if you bought a phone through them within the year. The stupid thing is, they said that they couldn't find my email address in the system, yet I only started getting emails about their specials after I signed up for that promotion. That made me pretty unhappy. I even signed up twice for the promotion a few days apart since I thought it was so strange that I didn't get a confirmation email the first time. After I didn't get it the second time, I just assumed that they weren't sending out confirmations (Strange, but I didn't think it just wouldn't work twice in a row).
The next thing was that it is plastered all over the walls in the mobile section of their store that they price match and have a low-price guarantee; yet they only price match phones that are purchased off contract. That might be common place on this forum with phone fanatics, but out in the real world (in the US at least) most phones are purchased with a contract. Saying that they price match "any deal" and then ruling out 90%(Edit: I guess I was a little optimistic, 66%) of phone purchases doesn't really seem like fair advertising to me.
Has anyone else purchased their One at Best Buy? Did you get your gift card if you signed up for the Phone Freedom program? The cashier said that it was a very common problem, and that it only really worked if you went in store to sign up, and that the online entry didn't really work.
I love the phone. I can not believe how much better it feels compared to my aging E4GT, but I wish I had a better purchasing experience.
When I signed up online for the "phone freedom", I did get a confirmation email and I made sure to save it. When I upgraded my phone last year, I also made sure to take a hard copy of the email with me just in case. Good thing too because their system was down and the only way they were willing to give me that discount was if I could show them the confirmation email (which I did). After that, the manager adjusted the price by $50. When I upgrade to the HTC One (as soon as the black version is available), I am definitely going to be sure to take a copy of the new confirmation email I got from BB when I signed up again earlier this year.
The price match policy actually really just depends on particular stores and what policies they know and abide by.
Best Buy's policy most recently changed on 3/3/2013 to exclude contract mobile from price matches. However some stores will still recognize and offer price matches to brick and mortar stores for contract phones, which was their old policy. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a brick and mortar store that had a price less than $199.99 when I went to my local BB.

yes i got mine no issue pre ordered the 6th i love the phone
I did the pre order there and I also got my confirmation for the $50 gift card from the freedom program, Also I did my research where to order the phone and I knew they changed the price match policies to be able to match online retailers but excludes on contract cell phones. I guess they did because amazon prices their smartphones dirty cheap after a few months(With a new line).
I know its a little off topic but does anyone know if Best Buy's Black Tie program is any good? I'm pretty sure they tried to make you buy it if you bought the phone. When I bought my iPhone they made it seem that I could destroy the thing and get a new one free of charge for only $10 a month. I'm thinking of getting insurance for my One when I get it because I don't want to get a case and hide its premium feel. I heard it doesn't hold up against scratches and drops too well :c?

I brought their insurance for my daughter's Note II back in november and I got it for my One, is cheaper if you buy the 2 years in advance $169 vs $240($10 * 24 months) + taxes. So far the only claim I have done is for the Note's charger, my daughter somehow pulled the plastic tubing that covers the charging cable close to the USB plug, We went to best buy and they order me an new whole charger( charger box+ cable) and they let me keep the charger box. I read the fine print and it covers damage accessories(included with phone) for 1 time replacement. The only thing that doesn't cover is if the phone is lost or stolen with $0 deductible.
Also if you decide to get the black tie insurance as a bonus, when is time to upgrade to a new phone they have trade-in plus, They will give you 100% the value of your phone at the time of trade-in plus a $50 gift card.
I do indeed have best buys insurance and am very happy with it. I got it with my Galaxy S2 and a month after I got the phone I dropped it on concrete and cracked the screen all up.
I went to best buy and told them what happened. They said they had to send it off and offered me a temp rental phone to hold me over ($50 charge that they refund when you return it undamaged). I took the rental and like a week later I went back and they said the damage to the casing was too bad (it was scraped up on the side badly) and it was unrepairable so they gave me a new phone.
I gave them back the rental, got my $50 back, and went home with a new phone. Very good experience, and so far it was my only claim.

They screwed me out of mine also because they claimed I used the wrong area code when I registered. I *****ed but to know avail, I'm going to call corporate on Monday.
Even if by some chance I did , they should honor it. I love the phone also.
To the other posters I bought my insurance for $90 from SquareTrade. It typically costs about about $40 more but I get coupons all the time for being a customer. It covers all defects and drops and spills.
Only have a $100 deductible but that's ok.

The did not find my freedom $50 either. They called someone and they emailed me a $50 giftcard. The put the free zagg on (fo free) as we waited. (I'm ready to take it off, as it sucks IMO) then she tried to sell me on a case. I already had a cruzerlite with me. She left the case on the counter. She put my phone and zagg case in on top of it. As she bagged everything she grabbed the case too. It took over an hour to get it all set up but I got the phone and some freebies.

Bought two from Best Buy had great experience. Only thing was they were unaware of free screensaver's and had to go back.
Posted this Friday.
First at Sprint Store this morning I purchased 3 accessories and got half price (they looked at me weird because I didn't have phones yet). Then at Best Buy I traded one of my htc evo LTE got a hundred dollars for it, the other goes to my daughter. Plus I am sending two htc EVO Design's back for a hundred dollars a piece from the preregister I did with HTC. Also was able to do buy out through Sprint at $150 which is half the price they originally wanted so I upgraded both lines, instead of just one and paying outright price for other. Then to top it all off Best Buy gave me two extra gift cards $50 each to price match Radio Shack preorder (play store gift cards) even though they weren't supposed to!

I went to Best Buy on Friday to pre-order both the HTC One and a GS4 (not knowing the One came out that day). The pre order process was easy going and the lady that helped my wife and I was very pleasant. We left an about an hour later got a call that the HTC One had arrived and was ready for us to pick it up. I went back to pick it up and after waiting about 10 mins for the other customers to finish was given great service in my opinion. There were no issues with anything and didnt even have an issue with the e-mail promo some of you did. I also got a Zagg HD screen protector and Pt Case for it and love them both. Also very excited to use the warranty on the Zagg. I also did switch over to the Best Buy insurance since I had to replace my GS3 through insurance not to long ago due to a crack and wasn't to happy about the 150 deductible. I have heard good things about Best Buy's insurance so I hope if I use it, it goes well.
So overall my experience was good and will be going back to Best Buy to buy my phone from now on. Also excited to see what i get for the HTC One in two years since they will give me %100 of the worth plus $50. Sorry to hear about some of yours bad luck but hope all goes well again when I pick up my GS4 this Friday.
Best buy freaking sucks man. I bought a Zagg and then paid for them to install it. 6 tries later and all seems well. Until I get to the car and realize theres 5 spots because of the fuzzies rubbing off of the cleaning cloth. Oh. Its 7pm and we're closing sir. Please come back tomorrow. Not to mention 3 of the 6 Zaggs they used, they tried to charge me for.

Mobile Phone Insurance NEXUS 6 new UK
Dear Friends,
I have just ordered 64GB Nexus 6 from carphone warehouse costing 549 quids. I would like to have an insurance for it as its really costly phone and i am really scared for accidental damage / theft.
I have been reading on net so many forums and reviews. It seems no policy is perfect. However i still need to cover this inder Insurance.
In your opinion and experience which Insurance I should be buying for this mobile phone?
Kindly advise.
Kindly reply...Awaitinf valuable feedback

I've just taken out this insurance. It looks okay (although one never knows till a claim)
I use Fonesafe and always have done. They will replace with new if it's within a few months and refurbished after that. I pay £8.99 a month and it's £30 for first claim and it goes up after. I've claimed twice over the years and I either got new phones or they were spot on for refurbished as I had no idea that most insurers actually replace with refurbished until recently when I had issues with CPW.
I also use Endsleigh for my gadget cover (everything else) and they charge less than £5 per month for £500 gadget cover but, I've not had to claim in the 2yrs I've been with them.
You could always self insure by putting away the total amount split by the time you intend to keep it. That way you would be able to use the cash for future devices if you can spare it but, you'd be rinsing your pot each time you do. I've tired this but, it only lasts until the next Nexus comes out so I've always kept using Fonesafe
