What does Asylum Omni have to offer?
Rom compiled with Linaro 4.8 toolchain, kernel with Linaro 4.7
Build optimization upgraded from O2 to O3
Custom Asylum Omni kernel with additional governors.
Unnecessary apps are chucked out.
Settings, keyboard, clock, phone, InCallUI, messaging, contacts, calendar, Apollo, DSp Manager, SystemUI and framework blacked out, no official AOSP grey
Safe Omni kernel and recovery with eMMC_CAP_ERASE disabled.
The kernel also contains Exynos security fix
Unlike the official Omni, this Rom includes SuperSU by default, so there's no need to reflash it after every Rom flash
Asylum Easter egg, courtesy of Mr Markus
UI tweaks
Ad blocking hosts
Custom Asylum wallpaper app which gives you access to over 300 black and gray weird wallpapers (thanks, Bangsti)
Good battery life
Speed and smoothness
Addon.d scripts for backing up your custom DPI, softkeys and restoring them even after a full wipe and flash
Cherry picks of good unmerged Omni stuff
Completely bonkers community
No 23 lockscreens, sorry
What does Asylum Omni 4.4.2 look and feel like:
Team Asylum
antiochasylum, Rom creator, a nice guy and a genuine Texan straight shooter
chasmodo, bad tempered, caustic and grouchy n7000, Xperia Z, and Flo Jerkins™
Jack The Ripper, our Linux scripting genius, a proper English gentleman with a penchant for getting kicked out of clubs
Sunny2303, well spoken, gentle and generous n7100 (and variants), Find5 and Flo 2013 Jerkins™
bangsti, the kindest man on God's Earth, LG Jerkins™
jejecule, a polite and diligent Barca fan (those two things don't often go together), i9300, Find5 and Jfltexx Jerkins™
Moepda, another genuine and ubiquitous English gentleman with a kind word for everyone
Asylum G+ Community
How often will the Rom be updated?
There'll be a new version as soon as there is at least 6-7 new Omni merges, or if there's only one crucial change.
It could be daily, or every few days.
How do I flash it?
You must be on a safe kernel and recovery. If you are not sure, check this thread out to see which ones are safe!
If coming from previous Asylum Omni 4.4.2 or official Omni 4.4.2 and you want to do a dirty install:
1. boot into recovery
2. flash the Rom
3. reboob
If coming from previous Asylum Omni 4.4.2 and you'd like a clean flash:
1. boot into recovery
2. do a full wife
3. flash the Rom
4. reboob
If coming from anywhere else:
1. download Raw r4 kernel from here
2. copy Gapps, Raw kernel and Asylum Omni Zips to your SDCard
3. reboob into Recovery
4. flash Raw kernel
5. reboob recovery <--- not the system, just the recovery
6. Wipe data and dalvik cache
7. flash Asylum Omni zip
8. flash Gapps zip
9. reboob
10. Don't restore system stuff or apps + data using Titanium, it might cause issues

How to update properly
Go in SuperSU and install the SuperSU backup script underneath Custom Rom.
Then, a backup script (99-supersu.sh) will be created and can be found in /system/add on.d
Same place, you will find 70-gapps.sh which backs up your Gapps package.
If both backup scripts are present, you'll only have to flash the Rom update.
If 99-supersu.sh isn't there, you'll have to flash SuperSU with every update or install the script like mentioned before.
Will install after work. Good job chasmodo. Mirror:

Sorry to hear that mate, I have never used Philz Recovery so I cant comment but I have tested this through CMW and flashing perfectly fine, I wiped Dalvik and Cache and Had no problems what so ever buddy
As for lag on the lockscreen. Its a problem with the firmware itself as its only the first Official 4.3 release from Samsung. But it wont be too long until they release a firmware that fixes this problem.

Audio, not radio. Try playing a game and have music playing in the background. Did you try this?

people cant tell you about battery, their usage is different to yours
best idea is flash the rom and test it yourself, don't wait for others to hand you info on a plate

Some people have limited bandwidth you know. Even if usage differs, you can get a general impression.

im one of them, i also have the worst download speed ever and an unreliable connection
i however, don't have an issue downloading a 200mb rom, which compared to touchwiz roms is miniscule
Battery usage is subjective...do you really believe everyone has their phone set up the same as you?
Honestly, flash the rom and see for yourself

What is AOKP?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.
We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).
With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.
Why AOKP ?
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.
There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.
For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.
Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.
You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?

In that case, do you think it would be possible to include whatever improvements were made to the camera in 402? Apparently it has helped with the overheating.
Of course, I say this having not yet used the camera with and without the update, and knowing that this ROM doesn't have camera working yet...
Sent from my LG-E971 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No, as this isn't Sony's firmware and doesn't use Sony's camera app. You'd have to port their app to aosp
Sent from my Touchpad using Tapatalk
Ahh, OK.
Do you need their camera app to record 4k video?

what are the differences between this and CM? I've always seen CM as the gold standard of roms, and it's hard to imagine a rom improving on this. I understand this is based on CM. What has been added to the CM build? What is maybe not as strong as in CM, or missing that CM features?

AOKP is CM on streroids...
AOKP is based on AOSP like CM but it has many under the hood tweaks and that enhances the user experience but it depends on you and what you want the devices to do. The feature list is extensive and there are too many to list but it comes down to prefernce and what you as the user wants to do with the device.
CM is based on AOSP with minor additions to enhance the user experience.

Perfect, that is the impression that I had as well but I wanted to be sure.
Fingers crossed daily for a camera fix... don't need MFC but the camera is essential. I'll pay big bucks for this ROM, I've been missing awesome roms for 2 years now.

Camera and touch screen bug after reboot etc keep this and all other AOSP ROMS from being daily drivers. Once someone figures that out we'll see a lot more development I bet

+1...waiting for an answer on this before I flash.
If the ElementalX kernel is included this must be a GPe based rom...but it's safer to wait for dev to respond...

This is because Google does not allow to build Gapps into a Rom even in GPE´s sounds strange, but thats it
