It is in the "about phone" section in the settings app. Basically MF3 is the latest firmware, MF1 is a prerelease firmware. If we mess up our phones (softbrick) we can restore to MF1 and everything is fully functional, however we can't get back to MF3 as of yet. Moose and a dev are trying to get the application "flash gordon" to be able to flash roms which would allow us to go to MF3 or other possibilities. Lets hope that works!

i537 running MF3 (im the 6th vote for MF3)
I am just waiting for you guys to unlock BL so we can start getting our hands on custom ROMs.
I recently switched from a note 2 that I owned for about 3 months (and ran jedi x16 rom on it) to the s4 active (driving down to buffalo from toronto to get this sweeeet piece of art thats a beast). I hit over 24000 on antutu, which seems impressive, especially considering its stock, minus a few tweaks. I can post a screen shot if anyone wants to see? :S
I rooted it using ar.apk and then deleted a bunch of files I knew were useless, from my own tech knowledge, but the ones I was unsure about I used the list of safe to delete apks in another thread.
I'm new to posting here, but I'm not new to xda, I'm also a geek, which I believe is a huge plus here lol
If I can be of any help, great, if I can sit back and enjoy what you devs come up with, great.
Thank you for the Forum Josh & KennyGlass , was it?

Yeah, I won't root immediately, but I don't think I'm applicable for updates since I'll be using it on the Fido network (aka. Rogers) here in Canada.

Hey guys,
Upon reading through the threads, I wasn't able to find specifics to what I'm looking for.... it's apparent that the support has stopped for this issue, which I completely understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an unlocked ATT Note 3 on (NJ5) to be used on T-Mobile.
I'm wanting to downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 to get back to (NC2).
Can someone confirm the following: (Please add to it if I'm missing something)
Odin ATT 4.4.2 (NC2) - Anyone have the direct link?
Root - Best method?
Safestrap work around? Is this the correct thread? How about this?
Planning to flash ATT FireKat (TouchWiz based) ROM....
From my understanding:
I only have one shot at this, therefore, I want to make sure that all my ducks are in a row before doing this as a "mistake," isn't an option right? I only have one shot at this or Hard brick yes?
Questions:
After successfully doing all this, with the correct TM APN settings, will the ATT phone be able to use all TM's bands? LTE 1700, Band 4 etc....
What are any drawbacks of using the ATT N3 on TM, if any? (I'll be happy with 4.4.2 so no worries on any fancy updates.)
The phones currently unlocked right now. Will doing the steps above lock the phone back up?
Is this all worth it or should I just sell the ATT N3 and buy a TM branded one?
Is there anything I'm missing?
Thanks in advance!
* I hope this post also helps anyone in the future that's in the same boat as I am.

this will give you 100% stock nc2.
Best way to root is with towel root.
with safestrap you do not need a workaround as it works perfect on nc2 you only need to do a workaround if you would like to go to 4.4.4...And for the record I've done a lot of flashing of random stuff that came from here and I did myself and I'm yet to hard brick or come from a point of no return.
all those t-mobile questions I can't answer cause t-mobile is crap in my area..
Hope this helps!

Thanks a bunch! I really appreciate it.
To confirm:
From a dead stop (the state my phone is at right now on NJ5)...
1. Odin NC2. (Which one specifically shall I download? I see a bunch of different links.)
2. Towel Root.
3. Put the TM Sim in...add APN's...
4. Flash ROM if desired...
5. Good to go?
Just need these 4... and if you want to rom you need to install busy box and safestrap after you root with towel root. Then yea should be good to go!

Oh and would you happen to know if the ATT device has the 1700 band (band 4) to support TM's LTE? I remember with the older devices ATT branded phones didn't have the 1700 build in, but now I'm thinking it might be different....hhmm
Also, it is unlocked right now...will the phone lock itself after all this?

Help on using 4G LTE in Pakistan
I have just received my AT&T Samsung Note 3 model SM N900A and am using it in Pakistan with warid network. I received the sim unlock code from AT&T. Warid is giving us 4G LTE service but my cell does not work on it. Since warid is not giving 3G service, my cell just connects using edge which is very slow. I actually bought Note 3 for 4G LTE but due to some reason its not working. The carrier people have no answer except that my set is not supported by their system. Can you kindly help? My set is not rooted.
Warid 4G LTE is working on 1800Mhz FDD Band 3 which is supported by my set. Other device parameters are as below:
Baseband version N900AUCUBMJ5
kERNEL VERSION 3.4.0-1625098
[email protected] #1
build JSS15J.N900AUCUBMJ5
Android version 4.3
And I would also like to know if I can update my set to newer android version or not?
Awaiting your positive response.
[email protected]
Question, are these files also downgrade the modem firmware to match the 4.4.2 ROM?
The reason I want to downgrade to 4.4.2, is to fix the GPS signal issue we all AT&T Note 3 owners having after the 4.4.4 update. Does anyone downgraded to 4.4.2 and GPS issues fixed?
Why isn't ATT stock firmware available for the edge yet? Seems a bit weird that all other carriers have our available, but ATT users still can't Odin back to stock in case something is wrong with their phones.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm just curious why it's taking them longer than others.

Don't get me wrong, i think it's great that the s6 edge can be rooted. I'm super happy about it. But I want to be able to revert to completely stock in case something happens for me to root it. And as it is currently, i'm not sure the ATT version can use Odin to get back to stock. Are there other ways of doing this?
EDIT: ATT users can't use Smart Switch either for recovery (yet?).

Now, will we have same rooting issue if we're on rooted 5.0 or do yall think it'll be more of a hot-fix than a bootloader update?

Agreed, however, by that time, it probably won't matter for me. I highly regret taking the 5.0 update before doing root. I'm sick of not having the options I want with this phone and the daily freezes. As a long time AT&T customer with a grandfathered unlimited plan (not that that means anything, they throttle at 5GB, which I swear the FCC said was illegal), I'm about to eat the early termination fee and go to Project Fi with a Nexus 6.

Not likely, it appears the only way to root 5.1 will be a custom rooted kernel which is out of the question for locked bl devices. Seems the end of root access on locked bl devices is not far away.

Well that is some sad news @muniz_ri. If you say you cannot do your usual magic, then i guess we are all sunk. I always check up on 5.whatever and it said it was out and i was hoping you would be able to modify it and keep the OA1 BL like you usually do....just to try it of course. Stock is not for many of us as you know. I will keep watching though. My installments are not done until 06-2016 and was hoping to maybe get an LG G4, but they dont seem to be having all that much luck with it, but i hear it is now rooted. by then, who knows. not a lot of money here. Thanks for you and others for keeping our device alive. I would never get an S6 or another Samsung I think. Between them and ATT, they are choking many of us. Ok, thanks again for all your hard work. Maybe u will come across something.

Yeah, I just spent the past 3 days looking into rooting my new S6.
I got it barely a week ago and I was really excited to finally have a phone I could root, only to learn that I got the first new phone that you can't. I might have had a chance to keep 5.0.2? Whatever, but by the time I synced by Google account, I found out I had the 5.1.1 version, with no way to go back.
More experienced users, please correct me here. I am largely posting this to consolidate what I've gathered.
As I understand it, 5.1.1 prevents a clean downgrade to any other Android OS by just not allowing the option.
When I went to turn off automatic software updates, I was faced with an option to check for updates, or go "take a hike" per se. It seems like you may be able to flash a version that can be rooted for the AT&T version (G920A), but you trip the KNOX security thing which will void your warranty. From what I can see, a lot of people are just deciding to go without root, or go without the phone. I have seen a thread or 2 (out of DOZENS on this) that say methods may be in the works, but everyone seems too afraid to try anything.
Keep in mind that I say methods for a reason. Nothing seems to be cut and dry for us as AT&T users to begin with, but this 5.1.1 update when downloaded OTA and all legit and whatnot is a real death sentence for those looking to root.
I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for news, but we're going to have a while to wait before we get to join the fun.

Not sure how this can be made any more clear. We have a thorough and two very simple explanations on the entire one page of this thread so far. I'm not trying to police it, but when I get updates for the thread, I'm hoping for something a little bit beyond the already answered questions yo.
I can only imagine devs are working on a miracle of sorts to change this fact, but it remains a fact until some magic solution is both discovered AND verified as far as I'm concerned.
jinishpv, I think you mean you compiled the .img file to Windows..? If so, MagicISO is a Windows app you can use to add, delete, extract or update files contained in an .img file. I hear what all of you are saying about 5.1.1 bootloader, and yes I'm in the same boat w/ safestrap rooted still on 5.02 of4, but jinishpv asked a tangent question and I didn't think it would hurt to help a fellow xda member out.
Any updates on this besides the private root being sold all over the web for $100-$120 each or $30 -$40 for remote unlock for G920A, G925A, G928A and G890A?
The good news thatotherguy.. found a way to root s6 and s6 edge. the bad news it is unstable. He's working on it with other devs. I'm assuming he/they will release it after the release after GS7 (to check if GS7 is vulnerable too?)

Are people still working on cracking the AT&T G870A or is it a lost cause?
If yes, how's it going?
I had a G870F but sent it swimming on 20m deep for three weeks. Needless to say it didn't survive.
Found the G870A and thought it was a bargain, however . . .
Pretty much a lost cause, most devs have moved on.
So the answer is not so straight forward. The current v 5.1 and above for the AT&T phones are not currently rootable. If you find a used or remanufactured S5 or S5 Active with 4.2 you will be in luck. I just had a problem with my Active found a replacement on the most popular buying and selling web site for around $230. Just make sure it has not been updated. If the seller is advertising it as 4.2 and you get it with 5.0 they must take it back if it's not what was advertised. Hope this helps.
If you want an S5 to tinker with you should get a tmobile variant the SM-G900T, or the international SM-G900M since the active model is basically a carrier exclusive they dont have any international ones that im aware of.
I dont understand the question of OP
I used a popular search and found rooted firmwares for the 870A.
Several people who replied have in their sigs that they have a rooted s5 Active..... I would think that to mean the phone has been "cracked" and isn't a lost cause.

so its isn't the android version per say bu the bootloader that comes with it?
So one couldn't just flash a 5.0 firmware, is that what you're also saying?
pardon my ignorance, but when one flashes a firmware -- that wont impact the bootloader will it...
poop... i just got one of those and I'm all excited to get the att crap off there and see how much faster it gets... not to mention all the other things you can't run without root.... this ebay "deal" keeps getting worse....

When you update the firmware, it automatically updates the bootloader. Once that bootloader has been updated, it's locked down. No downgrading firmwares, rooting, or installing custom recoveries.

Yeah, that's basically what I gathered after a lot of research online.
Some claim it can be done but when trying the method/software, it doesn't work.
I just wanted to double check since there is a lot of expert knowledge in this forum.
One thing i've been thinking though (not that I can do it): how about picking the phone apart
and wiping/replacing the bootloader manually?

Well it's soldered to the board. You would need some highly specialized equipment to do it. Even then I'm not sure.

Is this the case with both the G900A and the G870A. I'm in the market for either one since they are going for just of $200 new on Ebay. Are both phones now locked down of is the Active more problematic?
Both are locked down. AT&T and Samsung are being jerks to us and not even letting us have a developer phone to try to use like Verizon had.

If you are looking to root, then buy one that still has Android v4.4.2. They are available you just have to look for them. Don't put the SIM card in until you root or it will auto update and you can't go back.

Hi Sgt.CM,
I got my AT&T S5 on release day and never updated it. I have a SM-G900A with Android version 4.4.2! Is it possible for me to put CM13 with marshmallow 6.0.1 on there? I had assumed it was impossible...
Thanks,
Frozen

Nope can't because of locked bootloader. The best thing you could do is too root with towelroot and then flash safestrap and install a custom rom from there.

That is what I thought. What are the custom rom options? Is there a rooted marshmallow rom for the s5 i can install?
Also according to these articles it is possible:
http://rootmygalaxy.net/install-cm-13-rom-on-galaxy-s5/
http://androiding.how/download-galaxy-s5-cm13-rom-marshmallow/
I'm guessing they may not be correct?

You can look in Galaxy S5 Android Development.
