Hi,
My friend has forgot his unlock pattern and has locked his device. I was not able to get the data on to login using a gmail account.
i am planning to give a factory reset using recovery mode , but the problem is he has some important data and photo's in the phone internal memory and dont want to delete .
Is there any way to get it safely. USB debugging is not enabled, i tried that method already.
I dont know the kernel version of the phone ? .. Is there a way to install a custom recovery and backup the entire phone and then give a factory reset ?
Please guide me ...

hey folks, running miui. msg came up to format sd card. didn't know it wasn't my external but my internal partition. some of my apps aren't working. so i'm going to re install miui after a factory reset. would this wipe have affected anything with android it self? would I need to run odin, flash stock then miui?

No it shouldn't affect anything other than whatever data/files you had on the internal sd card (music, videos, etc.) If you factory reset and reinstall MIUI you should be fine.
Hope u kept a copy of ur TiBu folder on ur PC and also hope next time u'll post in the correct thread

HI XDA
I got this sgh-t599 tmobile phone yesterday. (didn't realize it was rooted) messed around/did factory reset without backup.
now im stuck in CWM recovery 6.0.3.6, Ive spent several hours readind and trying to fix this with no luck.
I tried using adb, kies etc. none can detect device. device drivers are installed(tried 'have disk'), it shows Samsung under device manager.
I can device list in adb and shows the numbers and "recovery" but when i try to use commands it says "waiting for device" or something.
from what i read, i need unsecure boot to restore firmware. where can i get this and how do i do it pls.
i have no mount usb option in cwm, when i try to recover/update from cwm it says aborted. in adb im able to reboot the phone with the commands but always reboots to cwm recovery or waiting for device. any help pls. i may have access to another rooted t599 if i am able to backup and recover it to this phone?:crying:
do you think local phone repair shop can fix this back to stock or rooted and for how much?

You must have format system or something. A factory reset wipes cache and data, nothing else. There should be a homebrew odin-file somewhere in these t599 threads.

phone was rooted and had superuser etc on it. I didn't know about rooting, I did factory reset from the main menu which im pretty sure is what caused this. before that I was able to look through its apps where I saw the superuser, terninal and others, once factory reset it rebooted to cwm recovery and stuck there. there was no backup or side sdcard. only realized it was rooted after saw the cwm and stuck
odin doesnt detect phone either, downloaded/installed universal drivers still no go.
main issue is not being to able enable usb debug/download while still in cwm
repair shop says $30, about to run there
i caused my friends sgh-t599 to do that

Apparently i've changed my lockscreen password this morning which i'm sure i remembered the changed password but i could not access into my phone ever since. I've gone through the forum for the possible ways to resolve my issue but i couldn't find the best way to do it as some threads are most probably out of date.
I would still want my data to be kept therefore i did not perform the factory reset. The data i would like to maintain are my contacts and pictures.
My phone is unrooted, it's probably not usb debugged as well. I'm unsure of the firmware version of my phone too.
I did not try to root my phone yet because I am not sure what I'm doing and am not sure if i can actually root it when my lock screen is locked.
Please advise on how i can resolve the issue without losing my data. I do not mind having an option to copy my data out from the phone storage before resetting my phone though.
Thank you!
Updated:
Apparently i had registered my phone with a samsung account which allows me to unlock my phone via the "where's my phone" through the Samsung website. I did not root nor factory reset my phone for this, but i still appreciate everyone who replied to my post! For anyone who is having the same problem with me and unfortunately did not have an account with Samsung/gmail, you might want to look through the suggestion below! :good:

Ok, first of all You have to root Your phone with this file: http://adfoc.us/4207233512571
Put it on Your external sdcard, reboot Your phone into CWM (volume up+home+power) and flash it. Great, now You have root.
Since You don't have usb debugging enabled You will have to use aroma file manager.
Before running aroma file manager in CWM make sure You have data mounted. (mounts and storage->mount data).
If You have it installed go to: /data/system/ and delete such file as "gesture.key" and some other "*.key" files in case there are some others.
Ok, now You should be done. Reboot Your phone. If it won't boot You will have to flash good kernel, but I think this should work.
One more thing, reseting data won't delete Your pictures as they are stored on sdcard and contacts are probably synced to google account.
In case You had some questions or problems just ask me.
I'll answer as soon as possible. If You will need some faster help we could talk on Facebook or Skype.
There are too many ways to reset your lockscreen.. I will give you the easiest way (Make sure that you are using the way I will give for your own phone, not someone else phone, as we don't want to get in trouble..!!)
1. Download @Phil3759 custom recovery from here (the zip one).
2. Download [updater-script]_Remove_LockScreen_Security.zip from attachment in this thread here.
2. Put both zip files in sdcard
3. Reboot to recovery mode by pressing and holding Power button + Volume up + Home button simultaneously.
4. Once you are in recovery, flash Philz recovery.
5. Reboot to recovery mode again (press and hold Power button + Volume up + Home button).
6. You will be in Philz recovery now, just flash [updater-script]_Remove_LockScreen_Security.zip which will remove the lockscreen security.

i tried once it failed in mid procedure and now i cant try it again because i cant access the settings
You must go in recovery screen ok do this put out the battery then insert the batterry press and hold in same time power and vol- and will come the recovery screen then make factory reset ....
---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------
You will see on screen have fastboot recovery and ... Make factory reset and try go to recovery maybe will continue the update procedure u not delete the sdcard. The problem comes because you update process not finish well...
Not go in this way you must unlock your bootloder, then flash cwm recovery with fastboot, then flash a stock Rom or custom...
you are right my update didn't finish well i am going to try this asap thank you very mush

I had this also.
Try different codes.
After that the phone will ask you to login with your google account.
Then it unlocks, and also the fingerprint is gone.
Let me know if it works this way.
