My wife has almost lost confidence in the Nook HD+ (and me!). She is the ultimate non-techie. But, I gave er a Nook HD+ on a whim and she likes it. She also likes using a stylus instead of her finger for swiping and pointing.
She complained (a lot) that when she swiped to scroll down a page in the web browser, it would (most of the time) do a zoom instead. Irritating, for sure. She showed me, and sure enough, it does. Not with your finger though. We tried different styluses, including a microfiber tip stylus, but no improvement.
I gave her another Nook HD+, but this time with CM10.1 on it, instead of the Nook OS. Two different browsers (Chrome and the Browser app) both still did the same thing. Using the stylus to swipe up or down in an effort to scroll the screen would instead cause a zoom of the screen. Finger swiping to scroll works fine.
What the heck? Anyone have any idea how to stop this from happening when using a stylus?
Thanks.
It's the sensitivity of the screen. I occasionally get it with my fingers. It's registering two touches and then the movement is assumed to be pinch to zoom.
There is an app on here to adjust the values for the screen, but I'm not sure where or what numbers to suggest trying.
I have seen this too. After installing 10.2 a lot of stylus jitters went away. The zoom too in the browsers.

Anyone else having touch screen issues with the Nook App running on CM7? I can touch the Types drop down but when the choices appear, I have to touch "My Files" several times to select it. It takes a ridiculous number of tries, otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. Same applies to the gears icon on the top right of the app. That is the icon you have to click for logging out. And I have to click it some 50 times for it to work.
I thought I had touch screen issues in those areas of my NC but I just had a chance to play with another NC and it had the same issue with the gears icon. My Files worked after a couple of tries.
I am not entirely sure what is going on. I like the app and will not mind switching to it (from FBReader) but this is driving me insane.
Yep, I have the same problems. I've given up on using that app, and just use Aldiko for my reader.
Thanks for chiming in. I now know I am not the only one.
This issue and the fact that it always starts at home and makes you pick a book every time you start are the two big annoyances with this app.
On the other hand, it looks gorgeous with smaller fonts and Amasis is a very readable font at smaller sizes. It even makes the other fonts render beautifully. So much so that even the sans-serif fonts look very readable and easy on the eye.
Oh and calling the brightness dialog fades the screen so you can't tell exactly what brightness you are getting. Seems like no one ever used the app in real life.
I have been using FBReader for a couple of weeks but I have only one font that is usable on it. I have tried Amasis and other Nook fonts but they don't render as well in FB as they do on Nook. FBReader is very plain and boring (yet functional) so I was considering switching. Yes I am vain and distracted easily.
Not only are you not alone, but others have commented on this since it came out.
It's a shame, because it otherwise is a good reading app. If it also read Nook magazines, I would buy more of them, but I'm about to switch to Zinio for magazines because I can't read them on the Nook app unless I go back to stock.
am I missing something? I read magazines fine on my app...

Yup...mine displays magazines fine also. What version of the Nook app are you using? Should be 2.6.1.35...the newest.

I had the same issue with the nook app with CM7, the screen in the too right (no matter what orientation you are holding it) is extremely unresponsive.
Its odd because I just changed over to Miui for nook and the problem does not exist any more. So it is obviously something with CM7 (but not Miui, which is based off CM7) I also believe I had the same issue with phiremod.
Also, have never had a problem reading magazines with any of the roms.

I had touch issues on my Nook app reading magazines. Eventually got it to work - but it wasn't easy to get it to load my magazines and respond to touch screen. Other apps were working just fine.
I hope they get it worked out - was kindof a PITA to deal with.
Cuhulin, have you looked into dual booting? Mine is set to dual boot between tock and CM7 since my 4 year old like the "elephant book" it came with.
mg1030, is this http://www.miui.us/ the miui you speak of? It seems intriguing. Are you running it from SD Card? Any pointers on how to install it to NC? It seems very iPhone like.
This question is for every touch screen device user out there. Long back when opera mini came for non touch screen phone it had a virtual mouse cursor visible on screen which could perform mouse rollover action on sites but in all modern touch screen smart phone I can't seem to find a way. Does anybody know any way?

In stock browser in ics you just hold the button to get rollover effect. In chrome it doesn't work though.. iirc you hold down in dolphin browser too. Not sure about stock in gb though

Had a heck of a time figuring out where this should go, if its in the wrong forum, feel free to move it.
I'm using dolphin browser on my touchpad because its the only mobile browser that I can find that supports Lastpass via add ons.
My problem is the touchpad doesn't have the native "back" button that all android tablets have and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it within the browser. Is there any workaround for this? The only solution I have found is to go to the gesture screen and use a gesture for "back". This is pretty cumbersome to say the least and for some reason the little dolphin button isn't consistently there.
Thanks.
I'm using Schizoid if that matters.
I'm using Dolphin on CM9 and it has the back button.
No questions here.
Pretty easy to see where Q&A is...

Didn't seem like there was any android discussion in there. Sorry.

If you don't have the back button on Schizoid, you haven't set it up properly. Check the OP, but it can probably be fixed by: get softkey buttons in navbar, go to Settings->System->Navigation bar->Tablet UI soft buttons You should also check your settings to make sure you haven't set the navbar buttons to hide with full screen apps.
When you switch to another app via the multitasking window, there is a brief 0.5s where the "app" is grainy and doesn't actually scroll or work, then after the 0.5s, the app returns to actual quality and whatever happened during the delay (scrolling, button press, etc) then registers. It looks like it is initially loading up a snapshot image of the app in its last used state and then transitions into the actual app itself after the short delay. Sometimes the page or the app itself will actually refresh. I played with a GS4 and it does not do that.
Can this be changed?
bump
Those are just shortcuts. It's not like windows pc where you can open many windows at once and where you have plenty memory to go around. Remember the phone has only 2g of memory.
If you Google multitasking on cellphone, you will understand why.

Like I said, I played with a GS4 and it did not have that problem.
Every time I launch Chrome browser (I'm sure I'm not the only one here!) it takes an age to be ready for me to type an address.
Even when the cursor appears in the address bar and the keyboard pops up, it's still not ready to type. When I impatiently start to type something the keyboard confuses presses for long presses, so I get numbers appearing instead of letters etc, a complete mess.
The wait is probably something like 20 -25 seconds, doesn't sound like a lot, but on a modern phone its aaaages! It's a shame, because the instantly-ready aspect is why I choose Chrome for Windows. Not so for the phone.
I have to say, the 'Internet' browser app that came with the phone is pretty instant, but does anyone have a recommendation for any other browsers that are pretty instant? I like the integration with my desktop that Chrome offers
Sorry guys - I guess I should have searched first!!
I'll have a look at Firefox, Opera, Dolphin, Boat etc!
Try opera and Next browser. Was using opera since my nokia N76 but this next browser is super fast and good looking.
P.S. chrome tends to lag a lot if you have it sync with desktop one.I guess it cant handle that many bookmarks or something.
