[Q] Phone Genius Needed- Can't unlock from AT&T - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I'm a completely frustrated noob. I thought unlocking my device would be as simple as putting in the unlock code I got from an online service (I've since tried another service, and got the same code) but as soon as I typed it in, it acted like the code was accepted but then I got a message that said Phone Not Allowed mm#6 upon start up.
I took it to Tmobile to try and set up a plan, but they couldn't get the device to register on their network. Tmobile is listed on the phone, but it can't connect.
Since there is no longer a prompt for an unlock code, I tried typing in all the alternatives *#7465625*CODE etc, but the phone doesn't accept any of them.
I've also tried getting to the debug screen, phone control, and network lock- but my debug screen only has 5 choices... and phone control isn't one of them. This is what my phone won't let me do-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265089&page=2
The phone was never activated on AT&T. I purchased from someone the day it was released. I tried doing the unlock on a brand new Tmobile sim card, and when I went into the phone store- the girl also put in a different sim card, but still no prompt.
Please tell me there is hope, and that I'm overlooking some stupid setting. I feel like an idiot since it's almost been 2 months of failure. :crying:
I hope someone can help! Thanks!

That thread is for the Galaxy S4, not the ACTIVE... So yeah, There will probably be a different method released for this one

What... but this is in the Galaxy S4 Active Q&A.. do you mean that this is for the non-AT&T Active?

No, I have the AT&T Galaxy S4 Active, and I'm trying to unlock it so I can use it on Tmobile's new No Contract Plan.

I'm stupid *edit* .

Sooo... when might that be? Is there another solution? I reallllly need this phone unlocked and working. I hate carrying around 2 phones =[

if you are trying to sim unlock you need to throw a different sim card in it. shut it down, put tmobile sim in it, then when you reboot it should ask for sim unlock code. which you can get from your carrier provider.

Unlock the G1 without unlock code ?

got root on the G1 already ,possible unlock the G1 without unlock code
anyone working on it ?
I think there are 3 possible ways:
1:find the unlock flag then rewrite
2:find the IMEI code and change it to a IMEI code that has already got the unlock code
3:find the unlock algorithm
hack the baseband
Did you figure out something? I got my T-Mobile G1 bought off eBay in the brand new packaging with a SIM card. Probably someone stole it from BestBuy or Futureshop, whatever, but I generally don't care where it came from bradn new that cheap
But now NO ONE can provide me with an UNLOCK code for it
I tried several different unlock sites, including the most famous one mentioned here, but no one can actually calculate an unlock code based on my IMEI.
I tried some solutions like Gevey 3G / TurboSIM for G1, but eventually the phone with a "proxy" SIM sort of "sees" my SIM card, but still unable to register to the network.
I was wondering if any cable unlock solution was found for the G1 already.
I got the phone rooted with the latest baseband and with the latest self-made build off the android repository, but cannot figure out how to unSIMlock it now..
find someone with t-mobile, have them activate the phone on their line, then use a site or hopefully they have been with t-mo long enough to add international calling, tell them you require the phone unlocked to use a euro sim and your set
disclaimer: in theory
all of the above except adding a stolen phone to t-mo actually work [might still work, not like your responsible for ebay origins] and t-mo's great customer service will unlock it for you immediately if your account qualifies for international calling,
Call T-Mobile
call Jenny-Craig

Sounds crazy, not sure at all if it's been mentioned before but try www.htcunlock.com
They claim to be able to get any code for almost any htc phone including the G1, you can also buy codes in bulk to lower the cost, and its paid through paypal, so its kinda secure
Just my thoughts anyway
Oh and if you are unlocked but have no network, try setting up the APNs in wireless settings
Be prepared to wait several days for an unlock code from tmobile.

yup, been much faster than estimated all 5 times I unlocked my mobiles
I was unlocking the G1 for £3.50 using a site I had access to. I was getting the unlock codes back within an hour too.
PM me if you want your phone done.
No in fact, don't PM me as I don't have the access any more.
The website that can do it is Uniquephones.com

Hi all, I have a similar experience. We have a G1 here that was never linked to a contract, and T-Mobile refuse to acknowledge its existence. I have tries one unlocking company so far, and they claimed they were unable to get the code. Does this mean I will not be able to get the unlock code for my phone at all?
if its saying that its unable to register on the network then that usually means the sim has been disabled or that the phone has been reported stolen and the IMEI blocked
seems like nobody have a "flash scan" to get our SIMUNLOCK code
Thats the strange thing, it is simply locked to tmobile, a tmobile sim works in the phone, and all is good, but it is locked from other networks (asks for code)

Have you tried the app found in the market? (you need the original Sim card from where you got the phone and any other company's sim card
Try searching for "SGS unlock" in market place. It should be called the "Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool".
Simply Run the app after installing (while using the original Sim card) and it should give you two codes: an unlock code and an unfreeze code.
Once you get them, I suggest writing it down and/or emailing it to yourself.
After that, turn off your phone and swap the sim card to the one you want to use. The phone "should" ask you for the unlock code when you turn it back on and after it has booted. Simply enter the unlock code and you phone should then tell you it's unlocked (if everything works ok otherwise it will say it was unsuccessful).
Note: I am on Bell in Vancouver running the stock 2.1 firmware and it's worked fine for me. There have been people who were not so lucky and it did not work for them. There are even those who have gotten their phone locked due to trying to many time when after it fails to unlock, but that is what the unfreeze code is for. If you're with Orange mobility, I've read that some of their phones were already unlocked. You could always just try a different sim card and see if it accepts it if you haven't done so already.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying, new to this site not sure what I'm doing !
When i paid to have the phone unlocked i had already canceled my o2 monthly contract so the phone had no Sim in it when being unlocked, i don't have the o2 Sim anymore, i brought the phone from o2 so they might help me out I'll have to ask them. I've just put a o2 pay as you go Sim in the phone & it didn't ask for the Sim Network Unlock Pin but with the 3 contract Sim it does ask. I have installed the SGS Unlock tool but i haven't run the app. I'm having the phone unlocked again tomorrow so he hopefully can sort it out. Thanks again.
I tried to "SGS unlock tool" and nothing does not give me the codes. When I go to the root gene codes told me: "Sorry, no codes found. File not found: Do you have S Business"
I have no idea what to do.
Is there some other way to decode or knows someone why this is happening?
I also tried with Generate Unlock Windows, error is: can not find nv_data.bin

[Q] phone not unlockable, why?

Ok, I'm a noob, but I do not hate myself, and I have done a search for similar threads. None apply.
Here's the situation:
I received a used Samsung Captivate with Gingerbread on it from a co-worker, who upgraded to a Galaxy SII. He erased all his personal info/data, but I don't have the details.
I called AT&T, since I'm a customer in good standing, and since the Captivate is not subject to a contract. I asked for an unlock code. They gave it to me. I put it in the dialog, and it did not work. I got something along the lines of "Network unlock unsuccessful. You have 9 attempts left." Not the EXACT wording, but it gets the point across. AT&T and I checked and re-checked the IMEI, and they kept generating the exact same unlock code (which is 8 digits).
In all, I've spent 3-4 hours on the phone with AT&T service, and about an hour with Samsung service, which is where AT&T sent me after they couldn't figure out why the phone wouldn't unlock.
With one attempt left, Samsung said the phone needed to be reflashed, and sent me a UPS label to send it in. So I did. They replaced a component by the power port, reflashed, and sent it back to me. So, stupid me, I tried the unlock code again, after twice again verifying the IMEI. Now, the phone says "Network unlock PIN number is entered incorrectly. Contact your Service Provider," when I put in a T-Mobile SIM to test. (Yes, I know I can only get EDGE on the Captivate on T-Mobile.)
I called Samsung, and they said they don't know why it wouldn't work, and that the unlock code was indeed correct, and that the mainboard probably needs to be replaced.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Does this sound logical? Am I dead in the water unless the mainboard is replaced, unless I want to use AT&T exclusively? I had hoped to be able to use a foreign SIM when I go out of the country, but it looks like this is no longer possible, unless the mainboard is replaced.
An AT&T GoPhone SIM works just fine.
Thanks,
Tracy
What happened most likely appears to be a miscommunication. Do you know what excatly they flashed ?
Personally speaking, without going through AT&T route, I myself have used the Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz which works like a charm. ( you need to be rooted though)
They flashed Froyo 2.2 I897UCKB2. I was considering rooting and flashing a new ROM, but having searched for unlock info before calling AT&T, I learned that in Gingerbread, they hid the unlock code. Thus my reason for calling AT&T (since I didn't want to pay for something I could get from AT&T for free). I'm glad I didn't do any rooting or flashing before I sent the phone back to Samsung. I have NO problem experimenting once I either: 1) know for sure I can never unlock the phone, or 2) can successfully unlock it. I don't want to have to undo a bunch of stuff before I send it back to Samsung. I'm lazy.
From what I was told by AT&T and Samsung, once you've used up your attempts, you're permanently locked to the original network.
Thanks!
About I guess 6 months ago there was a little app that would let you root your phone temporarily. It stayed rooted until you reboot. It worked very well. I used it a lot until I rooted my Captivate for good. Unfortunately I can't find my copy of it. I did a quick search here and didn't run into it either. It may be worth a try if you can find it.
If you root the phone, unlock it with the the app mentioned before, then do a factory reset, you will no longer be rooted, but the unlock will be there. Once you unlock a phone, it stays that way unless you decide to relock it. When you unlock the phone, it will put a folder on your phone. Keep that folder in a safe place. Just to be safe, copy and save it in multiple places. If you ever want to relock the phone you will need that folder.
Cool, thanks, guys. I'll look for the app and try it out.
Tracy
My wife and I just switched over to t-mobile about a month ago and at&t wasn't much help in getting our phones unlocked either. The gave us unlock codes for some other phone.
I used the same app that theevildevil mentioned, Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz on my phone. On my wife's phone I used Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool by DaGentooBoy. Her phone was running a gingerbread ROM. Mine even had a screwed up IMIE number. Both apps worked great though.
ZeroG1, how many digits were your unlock codes? I ask because Samsung thinks AT&T gave me the number for the wrong thing.
Thanks,
Tracy

Help trying to unlock verizon xt862

Hi guys, noob here, but not so noob on android OS
I was trying to unlock my verizon droid 3. And when I´d inserted a sim from another carrier, it just says "subsidy lock, call provider".
How can I make the phone ask for the unlock code?
I read somewhere that this message appears when you tried too many codes, but havent tried anything. I read that this problem was solved on other moto phones by leaving the phone idle at subsidy lock screen for 4-5hs and the phone will ask again for unlock code, but thats not the case
Anyone experienced this problem?
call verizon tell them your going our of country on a business trip and you have a european SIM already that you would like to use, but you need to unlock your phone. viola
Im already outside US. Problem is phone dont ask for unlock code.
Alltel or Verizon Wireless do not use any type of subsidy locks on their CDMA phones. Default Code:000000 or 123456 or 654321
that is what i found by looking up the subsidy lock error you described. tell me what happens when you input one of these. im still doing more research for you
Hi, it just says "subsidy locked" and a discard dialog box, there is no box to enter any number
Phone is dual cdma/ gsm 3g, Im trying to unlock the sim part.
I´d read this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406812 but Im missing the enter code dialog box
the fact that their is no dialog box is weird to me. can you press the menu key? does anything pop up? i googled this but did not find anything. ima check some other sites. do you have an account with verizon?
Yes, phone was working on verizon till the day I leave my city.
The only option when I put a foreign sim card... it´s just the subsidy lock legend and if I hit the discard dialog box, phone goes to android home menu. But obviously with no gsm signal.
I can do everything, flash, root, everything. The only thin I cant do, it´s downgrade, phone was updated to last verizon 2.3.4 OTA when was connected to verizon network, and as other thread says, it´s no downgradeable atm. Im thinking that verizon could have put some newer simlock protection to latest updates...
since subsidy lock is simply by the carrier you can contact verizon and they can tell you what to do. if you dont have anyway to call the usa, you should email them.
Well... more news. Contacted verizon tech service and they teach me how to get to the unlock screen. But for the code I have to wait almost 6 more months.. lmao
Well... more news. Contacted verizon tech service and they teach me how to get to the unlock screen. But for the code I have to wait almost 6 more months.. lmao
At least I can try any code now
sorry you have to wait. i should have said there is a certain wait period for each person [i think 10 months] before their eligible for an unlock code. butttt you can always get one online. glad your initial problem was solved though
Yep, thanks for helping. Maybe Ill try some online code but I think they wont work
If anyone is experiencing the same problem, the only way to get the unlock code input screen is setting to only gsm mode and then turn on/off airplane mode a couple of times and magically unlock dialog box will appear.
there is one that works. ima go find which forum i found it in and post back tonight. probably within the hour. well i cant personally garuntee it works but it had good reviews from xda memebers
That would be nice In case you dont want to post link here, just send me a pm
I have to do some things for the rest of the night and its too much too look up on my phone. If I don't get on again tonight I always check xda whe n I wake up so ill have it first thing tomorrow morning at the latest
Sent from ICS Droid3 using xda premium
Maybe share what you did to get the unlock code dialogue to open. Save others the time of having to call Verizon themselves, since you already did that
Why do you have to wait six months? Was your line on Verizon too new to get an unlock code?
Droid 3 with stock xt862 ROM working on T-Mobile via xt883 radio.img & custom build.prop
Yep, first rule on a forum: dont say it works, say how you make it work
Its a couple of post above, set only gsm mode, turn on off airplane mode a couple of times, and unlock dialog will appear.
I'd unlocked other phone some time ago on verizon and for the next one, I have to wait half a year
Anyway Im not coming back to states anytime soon, so I'll have to throw it through a window
Btw fisrt ebay code didnt worked.
My bad, didn't see this whole second page when I was on mobile lol. Second rule on a forum: read all posts! Good luck.
ebay switftunlock freedomobile and unlock_fusion
whichever you choose and they can send you and unlock code. these are based on reviews from this forum
Thanks, I´ll try one of them

Verizon Droid 3 XT862 in Peru

Hello. I ordered from Amazon.com a used Droid 3, which used to be on the Verizon network. I am in Peru, and was planning on using the phone with a SIM card on the Movistar network. Powering on the phone with the SIM installed resulted in the phone asking me for "SIM network unlock PIN" I thought it was the SIM PIN, so i tried that a couple times, no no avail. Then, I found online that the default PIN is "000000" or "123456" so I tried those, at which point my phone came up with the message "Phone is subsidy locked" (or something to that effect)
I called Verizon in the US, and the tech support guy said the phone shouldn't be locked, and that the EMEI isn't on any lost/stolen lists. Am I now stuck with a $50 paperweight? Can I unlock it or root it or reflash it in this condition? Right now, I have the SIM out and I can use it on WiFi and download apps and stuff, but it is basically useless as a phone at this point.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Thought I would reply here too, in case someone thinks about trying to help. I replied to your thread on a different site. You have sent phone back, so there is nothing left to try, at the moment.
Thanks for getting back to me. I still have the phone at the moment. I have until Saturday to figure it out, otherwise I'll send it back to the US with my MIL. Please, do tell, what's your secret?
Also, what site did you reply on? I've been all over the Motorola pages for the last week looking for solutions. (I solved the MB508 issue, so I don't have to send those back.)
No secret, and no fix
