Can black bar at the bottom of a screen be TOUCH SENSITIVE? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone knows if the small black bar at the bottom of a screen is TOUCH SENSITIVE?
Maybe we could use it for soft key navigation, but first we'll need to know if that part has got proper touch panel underneath. If it has, we can modify drivers and try to use it.
Maybe someone disassembled RAZR M/I and has got some pictures. It would be great to make that bar touch sensitive.

I think it's just a part of the screen bezel.
Like on many other devices (ie. Nexus 7)

Yes it is, use Lmt launcher or search in Omar Rom's thread for the line in build.prop that disables the softkeys making that black bar disappear. He told it to someone there.

He meant the black glass panel beneath the softkeys, I think it may be a remnant of a capacitive key idea that didn't materialise because they went with on screen software keys. Back to the OP I doubt they would then implement a touch panel (an unnecessary cost) under the black section, although the thoughts have having an extra touch sensitive panel would be nice.

Soft keys are too close to main screen

Hi guys, do you have the same feeling as mine? O4x's soft keys are too close to the bottom of the main screen. As a result, sometimes during text input, home button is unintentionally hit.
Is there any solution to this?

Happens to me all the time. I have no solution this far. Maybe one could make a mod to have the on-screen buttons as Google intended and disable the hardware soft keys, but I don't have any experience in modding.
Not sure about the mechanism of the hotkeys. If they're touch panel like (or even they're just part of the main capacitive touch screen), the best solution IMO is to reduce the effective touch area of each button. Just make them slightly larger than the led icons.
But this is not what CM can do I think. It should be some driver code change from LG...

i use swiftkey and increase the key height and it is so much easy to key now without hitting home when i use the spacebar. Another alternative is to setup the direction arrows underneath the spacebar but i feel the previous approach is suitable for me not to hit home key 99.9% all the time :cyclops:
Happen quite a lot at first,
After a mth with this phone. Seldom happen anymore.
Will get used to it

Nice solution, thanks!!!

So that HTC button can actually be a button??

Apparently so....

Yeah, this was discovered a while back in some coding. Not really sure I'll have a use for it, but it's good to know it's there.
The answer is: Not Really.
In the other thread they showed a pic of the digitizer used on the HTC One. There is no "touch-sensitive" area under the HTC logo. The kernel hack discussed where the HTC logo *is* turned into a button mentions that it is only responsive at the very top of the logo.

Although this is nice work, I think the HTC logo as a button is a lost cause.
Am I the only one that likes the two buttons? I like minimal designs and I have no problem long pressing or double taping a button to get what I need. I think the two buttons looks nicer than having a dedicated menu/multitasking button.
I have been on HTC for sometime and all of them had the long press for multitasking so I might just be used to this kind of setup already.
I'd be fine with the two button layout if it weren't for how they handle the menu "button" for apps (like this one!) that haven't adopted Androids latest design guides for how the menu function should be handled... I really hate that big black bar on the bottom of an otherwise beautiful screen!

i like the two button layout....took a little getting used to but....
I'm used to the buttons now, but that would have been cool to have the HTC Logo as an actual full functioning button.

if you root/unlock and install either ViperROM or the Xposed Mod pack, you can get rid of the black bar and instead long press back button.
that's what I did, I too hated that black menu bar at the bottom!

Hiding Capacitive Buttons

Hey guys,
I have disabled the capacitive buttons at the bottom of my One and am now using soft keys on CM10 and love it.
Has anyone thought of a way to hide the capacitive buttons at the bottom? Any sort of sticker or anything that would work?

Get a black permanent marker and hide them forever.
You could get a long black sticker or something and stick it down, maybe making a hole so you can see the HTC logo (if you really don't want to hide that anyway)?

[Q] Soft menu button

I'm looking to buy the Z1 but I will miss the menu button on my Galaxy S1.
Is there a way or a mod to add that soft menu key/button? I don't like the "3 round buttons" on the top right.
I love that the LG G2 has a setting to modify those keys, is there something similar on the Z1?
Thanks guys,
yes
Can you elaborate, please?
Where and how ?
Guess you can install xposed framework and gravity box and you can customize mostly everything of your navbar. I ended up removing the navbar and use instead the pie because I find softkeys a ridiculous waste of space that let the manufacturer to save 20 freaking cents.

I really don't like soft keys/nav bar also. It's a waste of space, in my opinion, and I can't believe that even in full screen apps they are present. What's the point of a 5 in. screen then :/..

Improving single hand operation - No root

Hello guys,
Does anyone know of application which improve single hand operation of the device's large screen?
I have install Lazy Swipe and looking for more. I'm thinking of install Dolphin browser as well because it has activation from the corner which can help with the single hand operation.
Planning to get more gesture control operation on the device too.
One of the thing which is bothering me is the notification bar. I'm surprised Sony didn't include any brightness control on the notification drop down bar nor there is a control for volume.
I don't like using the hardware key as they can get ruined + the casing aint great.

Not really sure how to help you but you can try using Nova launcher coupled with gestures to launch all the application you need.
I have a small hand but I think one hand use is not that tough though.

Is there any way to replace the menu button with a statusbar drop down button? Something like the LG one.
I can lock the screen using shortcuts with the home button, but pulling down the status bar is really hard for my small hands.

You can use launchers which support gesture to do it. But note, it's not global, only occurs when using the launcher.
