Spoiler
Okay, first of all, I'm on an Xperia V, with latest firmware (4.1), unrooted.
So lately I've been having trouble with battery life. I don't really use my phone much, since I've got a Nexus 7, but the phone just plows through the battery.
The problem was that the phone always stayed active, even with battery saving modes on. Now I didn't use many sensors, like GPS, NFC, BT, and WiFi Location, but still I couldn't get it to last very long.
Now two days ago, I factory reset it and set it up. I tried Smart Connect and Location Based WiFi to automate my phone, and battery life was pretty good, definitely better than previous.
But now today, my battery life is once again bad. I haven't really found the source of the problem, it's not an installed app that drains the battery, and the battery usage shows that 'Media' and 'Android System' drains the most battery, and that the phone stays active when it's sleeping.
I've also noticed that my signal drops frequently, even though I'm in the town.
What can I do?
TLDR; Xperia V, latest 4.1 firmware, unrooted. 'Media' and 'Android System' drain most battery, phone stays active all the time, no GPS, Location, NFC, BT. Tried factory reset. Don't know what to do. Frequent signal drops too.
I'm gonna try a factory reset without the SD-card, I don't even use it.
Here are battery and wakelock screenshots:

Err, that is normal use.
Your phone is in deep sleep for 49% off the time, that is normal. You have 38% battery after 21 hours use, that is good.
If you keep factory resetting then every time you boot it has to use media scanner again to rebuild its data bases..
My suggestion I'd to leave it for a few days to settle down, then see how it is

No, it can't be.
Android System and Google Services shouldn't drain 70% of the battery, neither should it keep the phone active 75% of the time, with less than two hours of screen on time. My Nexus 7 has been 'active' 20 minutes, with 5h of screen time and music playback.
I had the problem before, that's why I reset the phone, and now I have it again. I don't think it'll settle down.
You can always ignore my advice if you want.
But your own images show 49% deep sleep and 33% battery left after more than 20 hours use. Trust me this is good and normal, and most users here would bite their right arm off for that
Also, if you keep resetting you are going to drain the battery quicker.
But like I said, you are more than free to ignore this advice and keep resetting your phone.

I'm not ignoring your advice, I'm not resetting, I'm just trying to find an explanation and a solution. Thank you for your answer.

I feel my battery life has come dowb after kl7 update..check scrrenshot
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
I am not seeing exact issue how much android OS usng,
looking to your screenshot, display is just 6%, means hardly you have utilised your device. it was mostly in screenoff state. Ok when you dont use your device, but OS is running in background so just OS but nothing else have drain it.
Now another thing looking to image i can say in 9hr your battery dropped 50%
it means > 5% / hr, that actually i count the measure.
In idle state it shud be 2-3 % with 3G n Data sync On. So here it is more.
anyway once let it drain completely then recharge it fully n count drain %/hr.
I am using few stuff, e.g
Autostart - just kill the app you dont using
Phoneweaver - It autometically controls my data connection e.g. just after 15min to my sleeping time, it gets turnoff my data, n swithon b4 few min i wakeup.
SetCPU - I set profile to use CPU <500 in screenoff state.
My batt seems to last longer on kl7.
Your is idle. it seem 3%/hr even using screen quite good time.
My sisters Note had same crazy issue with Android OS eating battery. Tried many things to find the culprit but only thing that fixed it was full wipe and reinstall ROM. No issues now.

il calibrate battery and see hwz it working
I have a very long time use with this firmware and very happy with the update.
I just disabled all automatic synch and the samsung apps notification and things like this.
3g is always enabled and some hours a day wifi is also enabled
Don't know if it will work for you but I had the same problem. Believe it or not a simple hard reboot, solved the issue. Was identical to mine using Android OS over 70% while screen was at 15%. Programs added and deleted were still running around in the OS until that reboot(I'm guessing). Let me know if that works.
seems better. i did a complete battery drain and recharged from 0 battery. now after 5 hours after complete recharge, im at 84%. 2 push emails..full time wifi connectivity, facebook/twitter/socialhub sync always on. 5 min phone call. and thats it.i think its better.
For those who do not realize it yet, having Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc syncing every minute takes a lot of power. You cannot expect the phone to be doing this for 12 hours straight.
If you have a lot of battery ussage with screen off, try to disable account synchronization and see what happens then.
You need to evaluate if you need to see every social network update on the instant, or you carry extra batteries with you, or you are able to find a place to charge every few hours.
What you cannot expect are miracles.

Hang on.i have all sync enabled...wifi always on .stil look at my battery life..its decent

Hmm, something has definitely changed for me.
Up until recently I was getting two days use out of a charge with wifi, gps & 3g enabled syncing 2 gmail, 1 yahoo account plus twitter and google reader stuff. Last couple of days Android OS has gone nuts and I'm getting similar readings in terms of usage to those quoted in this thread. This morning I've drained 20% in an hour with a bit of internet use.
Only thing I have changed is updating a few apps and I've put the thing in one of those silicon protection cases but that can't be the reason(can it??!!).

Dear All,
here is my Note 2.3.6 stock rom with Franco #6 kernel Battery usage (in pic 1&2)
It shows that my note was awake mostly all the time although as you can see from the pic that the phone screen is off most of the time (almost did not use it that day)

1-is this because I was leaving the wifi on most the time?
Edit: I turned the wifi before sleep and after 6 hours I found the phone was awake all the 6 hours and sygic was off
this an old pic (couple of days before) and you can see my wifi was on all the time while the phone was not awake most of the time
2- Why my signal bar in pic is yellow and not green as usual?
and in pic 2 here is my apps, so which one caused this awake?
Final results after long day of asking, getting help from replies here, reading and trying, everything is fixed after doing restart

Don't keep your WiFi and GPS (Sygic) on all the time. Looks like that's what's stopping your Note from going to sleep.
Don't know if this is an actual fix, but what I discovered is that turning the screen off by pressing the 'Power' button on the side helps tremendously in preserving my battery life. If I just let the screen time out, my battery gets drained big time.
This may/may not work for you, but it's worth a shot...
(EDIT: This still holds true even when I keep my wi-fi on)
thank you to all who replied here, the main thread is updated , please read it

Well both old and recent screenshots show the same battery drain and quite similar usage, they lasted for a day and a couple hours.. I think it's a glitch in the system info.
Had a problem a week ago with heavy battery drain in a quite similar manner and I can guarantee that if the phone didn't entered sleep mode it wouldn't even last those 24hrs.

do you mean that the phone entered deep sleep but the results are not correct or not true?
I have also CPU Spy and it shows that my phone did not enter deep sleep during the last 30 hours (or more)
try uninstalling Sygic.

Also, Voice talk has the option to be ready all the time, by "Hi galaxy" command, try disabling that.
Does anyone have an idea as to what happened to my battery here? I'm thinking faulty battery unless someone has seen this before?

Does this happen often???
Cuz im facing the similar problem but for me .....gigantic battery drops occur after i resart the phone.......may be we should change our KERNEL. I heard hydracore is gr8
I wouldnt say its your battery, If you look at the blue lines below you will see that there is a big gap when screen is off, Yet the phone is waking up many many times whilst the screen is off.
This says to me that there is an app causing your phone to not enter deep sleep. Your best bet would be to install Better Battery Stats (free on XDA, Paid on Play store) and/or Watchdog lite.
this will tell you which apps and proccesses are using more power than needed. Then you can take action from there.
Battery drain is an issue for most android users, and has millions of possible causes, so elimination is key to finding the culprit.
ofcourse.. this is happening because of wakelocks... power off the phone. remove the battery for a minute and pack it up again boot into recovery.. wipe battery stats and check again

It's only happened this once. And I think the vertical line suggests it was during a reboot?
I've dealt with wakelocks before but never seen this. I'll have a look with betterbatterystats to see for those wake events.

I'll give this a go.
This occured to me on XXLSA Jelly bean, after researching, I found it is due to media scanner running for long time
I used Rescan media root app from play store to disable media scanner and this didn't happen again
It is worth noting that this problem would NEVER happen in CM-based ROMs - Huge battery life!
Hmm I've been running CM10 since the nightlies first appeared and tbh, whether on original battery or gold battery or my extended battery, I always get drops offs (maybe only 5 per cent) on any reboot
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I noticed battery drop after I started bluetooth my music through my car stereo.
Apparently it's a bug in a file called "media server" in Android that causes that.
The short fix is, after I stream music, if I'm not going to stream for a while, I reboot
the phone. Killing the service for media server won't stop it, you have to reboot.
I ran a battery program that showed overnight, the media server wasn't going to
sleep, kept wakelocking. After rebooting, the battery only lost 2-3% overnight,
and before, it was losing 10-20% overnight. Might be worth looking into.
full decharge (1bar,not really full) and fullbrechargr cycles might make it better. A sudden drop like this screams battery replacement. If in warrantee period get it replaced.

I'm having issues.. I've been always lurking XDA (years now) I do not post frequently.. After my nexus 4 (3 years) I got my new nexus 6; I' ve always rooted them, etc.. this time after a couple of weeks (2-3) I rooted and got my franco kernel.. anyways everything was fine till a day that I ****'d up a flashed M by mistake, I had to re-do all my stuff after restoring latest 5.1.1 android version..
The thing is now my battery is dieing just too far. No geo-location, no bluetooth, no nfc, no LTE (only using 3g), mostly wi-fi, NO WAKELOCKS! and still its dieing too fast for the non use that im giving it..
For example
Yesterday night before sleeping it was 78% .. when i woke up: 40% it had 6 hours of deep sleep and still the battery drain was just insane..
Any ideas boys? Should i close bootloader and restock this and send to motorola for a change or what? Let me know which logs do you need.

Wipe cache and dalvic cache that is a usual fix and simply flash elite kernel recommended I charge from 10 pm to 6 am and at 7 am im still at 98%
Lots of deep sleep
Use CPU spy app to look at deep sleep
Another fix for alot Samsung users was to disable volte under call settings and WiFi calling when not using it .Screen time out to, 15 seconds all the usual settings disabling
Best of luck

Did the davilk cache and cache wipe (didnt flash elite kernel) and everything is going well right now.. thanks alot
will report back if anything new pops, thanks man!
edit: lets not sing victory, keep the suggestions coming.
What rom are you running? Maybe I missed that part? Dont forget to turn off auto-brightness that is a real batter killer
Edit I see that you are on stock, sorry.
Do you have a good data connection at night? I know when I had sprint I had to connect to a wifi at night or my batter would be half way gone over night because it would search for signal.
Do you have the search for wifi even when disabled turned off under wifi advanced settings?
Hey, i had wifi always on but that was not the issue, it was not a data related.. After 24 hours my battery is alive again seems like dalvik cache and cache wipe worked out, i did try the wifi off but it was not making any difference.

Just for pictute proof the battery life gets better if you just charge decharge correctly
Getting estimated 24+hrs all day 7 am today until 7am tomorrow ... Providing how much you use the phone
Screen time out 15 seconds GPS off WiFi off or on only use one!!
Brightness down to 1\4 way that's all you need cause screen is bright even at that setting.
And If you want a great combo flash Sinless rom and elite kernel wipe dalvic and cache reboot!

The device is new, has only 2 weeks of use and I've updated it to MiUi 12.5.6 (RKLEUXM). My use is very moderate, some videos, social network just for conversations and only wi-fi connection. After the update, I noticed high battery usage even when I'm sleeping with all connections turned off. Obviously there is some battery thief, but it only appears in the graph as "smartphone services", this is not normal. Any idea?
I can even feel the phone a little warm around the cameras when I'm using it for basic stuff.

Try battery guru's app...
It's seem a 12.5 MIUI problem for all Xiaomi note 10 series
Something(s) are running in the background.
Try putting into Safe mode at night to rule out 3rd party apps.
Track down the culprits and deal with each on a case by case basis.
I have this device since August 27th, after setting it up, I started optimizing it, restricted background use for a lot of apps, well, everything that could be disabled or restricted, I only gave free pass to apps I consider important, but, the reults were really bad, 17% of overnight drain! Long story short, the optimization must be done very carefully, trying to stop all kind of things might prove negative, by trial and error, I now get a good battery life, now it barely consumes 1% in 8-9 hrs idling at night, aod off, wifi on, gps on, so, try to optimize your device carefully

Hi,
Did you single out what was the culrpit. I have disabled every non essential app, tried this solution: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/improving-battery-life-on-miui-12.4139913/
But nothing helps. It only shows that android system is drawing power.
I will be glad if you could point what you made to fix your phone
If there is any Firewall that can log with the newer "secure" OS's you can use that to help pinpoint the rogue apk(s).
With Pie I use Karma Firewall but it's logging feature doesn't starting with 10.
After doing everything I could think of, the AOD seems to be the culprit, even thoug I really like it, when disabling it, overnight battery consumption lowered to 1% in a 7 hrs period

No, to achieve this low bat comsuption, I disabled miui optimizations, then, the option for aod is on or off, no more settings, I really like the aod, but the drain while idling drives me nuts... I painfully miss my galaxy note 10+.....
Meh, I hear that. It's to the point I got a second new 10+ while they're still available. They are the last of the stock devices running on Q.
I won't touch 11 or 12. Funny thing is it doesn't run like an outdated dinosaur.
Been a real bad year for Android...
