It does not work on the smt210r
I can't find anything saying the 8 does you are in luck it seems the devs are having better luck with the 8 over the 7 or 10 as the 8 has working recovery it will likely get a custom rom that enables it.
I think it's because T311 is SGS2 on steroid. They share the same exynos & mali400. Anyway, thanks for replying.

T311 has otg support.. for that matter apparently all the 8 and 10" editions do support otg.. only 7" tablets dont have this support..

This OTG cable works with the 8 and 10
http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Micro-USB-OTG-Cable/dp/B005GGBYJ4/
Tested, and this cable works great with the 8 & 10. DOESN'T WORK ON THE 7!
Will need the nexus media importer app if not rooted to read external drives.
Hope this helps!
I have the original OTG cable from Samsung when I had the GS3. It worked with the first gen Nexus 7, but not the FHD version. It works with my GS4, as well as the Tab 3 8.0 without needing root
Hey just realized this truth after buying a otb cable. Is there anyway to connect e.g. a hdd directly to my sgt tab 3 7.0?
Can you explain why the f... the otb cable is not working on the 7 inch version? Doesn't seem like a hardware limit.
Anyway just my newb view of point.
Hello,
I've the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 - and I saw that there are solutions to get OTG with some tricks on other devices (f.e. Nexus 4/7). Are there any news for the Tab 3 7.0? Any custom rom or app that enables OTG?
Hope that you can help me! Thanks!

Connect via Bluetooth if it is really a Bluetooth mouse. A 2,4GHz Mouse isn't automatically a Bluetooth mouse.

No, the tablets do not supply enough power through the USB to power external hard drives. You may be able to get hard drives to work using a USB Y adapter and a power supply.
Doesn't work on friends Tab 3 7.0

That hub works fine on my Tab 8.4 pro even without external power. With external power, it charges the tablet and powers a portable 2.5" HD.
On by friends Tab 3 7.0, it doesn't work. We tried every plug sequence, power combination. Same is true with HDMI adapter (MHL 2.0). A great HD tv pictures with the 8.4pro (even using just the tablet power). Nothng on the tab3 7.0. Sorry
Thk u Firedog91902 for your answer. hope that future rom resolve this
I tested my tab 3.8 with a variety of setups. It barely has enough power for most but not all thumb drives.
Sometimes a thumb drive will be recognized and mounted , but declared blank or damaged. Its not, but the Tab 3 doesn't have enough power and it doesn't function properly. Add power via y-cable and it works fine..
WIthout external power via a Y cable or powered hub, it cannot power any hard drive. WIth a power adapter it will work with external USB hard drives as long as they are formatted Fat32 and have only 1 partition. NTFS and ExFat for not recognized. There are apps out there that can mount NTFS if you are rooted. I tried a few and they work sometimes and crash sometimes. Since there is no native support for NTFS or ExFat, these app choose a variety of mount point configurations and do not play well with some apps.
using an otg cable on a galaxy tab 3 7.0
A PC store in Spokane wa told me that Samsung locked out otg support on the tab 3 7.0 and full USB support can be turned on in development options or if u have a rooted tab u can manually load the otg drivers through clockwork recovery mod if its in zip format then it should work. I have not tried this yet but as a expert believe it is possible to activate otg support. He said that Samsung do not want People using otg on the first tab 3 7.0 so they locked that function.

Hi guys.. i've searched around how to make works usb host on our p1000.. i've tryed several roms and now i've cyanogenmod 9.1.0 since it support usb host and it works with Y cable!
now.. i'm using a self powered usb HUB.. connected to tablet through an usb female to female adaptor and official Samsung data cable.
so.. i've downloaded "Usb Host Controller" app, under "setting" tab i've selected "usb host mode" and now under "USB" tab i can see 2 devices ("1-1 USB2.0 Hub" and "1-1.4 USB2.0 Hub"). When i plug in an usb Stick (2gb) i'm able to mount it and browse through File manager with no issue.. but when i plug on hub an usb mouse.. tablet doesn't recognize it in any way! the mouse optical light turn on and turn off after a few second.. i've tried with two different usb mouse without success!
Any suggestion?

Hi.. i'm using official CyanogenMod 9.1 Stable ICS with kernel inside.. nothing special to do.. just download "USB Host Controller".. switch to host mode.. then plug your selfpowered usb hub or an Y-Cable with a power connection, since our tab doesn't provide enough energy from 30-pin port! but only USB Stick work for me.. nothing to do with other devices like mouse or keyboard.. for screenshot i can post it tomorrow!:good:
Hi, are you just using the standard samsung cable? AFAIK, usb otg cable must be used. Anyway I will wait for the screenshot and if possible a photo of your setup. Thanks

First of all thank you for your answers. Is this the configuration then:
1 Y cable (2 male, 1 female), 1 gender changer (2 female inputs), 1 tablet charger cable (1 30pin input, 1 male USB)
I guess that I should connect 1 male input of Y cable to tablet charger, the other male to gender changer. The remaining input of the gender changer will be connected to Tablet with its charger cable. Female input of the Y cable is left for mouse, USB memory, etc... If this is a true set up, could you please tell me what exact version of Android, kernel, etc you are using. The link of the ROM (CM9, CM10, etc) will be very appreciated.
Thanks again.

Bought 2 USB OTG cable a few days ago but I've been unable to get it work. The moment I plug it into my HTC One, a "Unable to charge device. Please use the supported charger" error. 2 different USB OTG cables, same error. Bought at different times after I couldnt get the first cable to work.
I'm having the exact same issue... I have 2 cables which both work with my Nexus 7 without any problems what's so ever. Does anyone know if there is an "official" cable from HTC or is there some kind cable standard which has to be adhered to, so it works?
I just got a cheap usb otg cable from eBay, works fine for me. What size drives are you trying to mount?

There can be problem with your pen drive. Cause i had lived the same problem. My sd card works in pc but not in phone. I tried using my mouse or another disc with OTG cable and they worked.
The stock HTC kernel has a whitelist that module blocks OTG access when a certain limit is reached like required voltage by the accessory in order to work. Custom kernel now has this disabled so you might want to check that if you want. But if you prefer stock kernel I suggest you guys look for low powered USB drives instead. Cable alone won't have any issues at all with compatibility.
The main issues are the filesystem type & the electrical current required by the USB drive or any device you want to use for OTG.
The charger notification is a bug and might get fixed soon by HTC but it won't have any effects on OTG itself. It's just the kernel mistakenly identify the OTG device as a charging mechanism.

Without any usb thumbdrives attached to the otg cable, the moment I connect the otg to my One, the error pops up. Later connecting the thumb drive to the cable does nothing. Es file explorer does not detect nor does mount usb drive light up (remains greyed out).
Tried connecting the usb drive first and then connecting both to my phone and does detect either. So yeah, I guess might have to buy another usb drive ?
i had the same problem, but....
I was very dissapointed because my htc one could not find the otg usb! I started deleting almost all downloaded software from my device and cleared cash! Then restarted my phone and... Voila! It works! To be honest, i didn't find out the problem, but it works!
Just a question. After rooting my Tab S2 9.7 I expected to be able to use USB Otg. And though it works with smaller USB-Sticks, it seems I cant get it working with a 128GB Stick. The stick worked flawlessly on a Tab S. I did install a custom rom on the Tab S, the Tab S2 is just rooted, and running stock 5.0.2.
Any thoughts, ideas?
Anyone has thoughts about this?
I did root mine, it's running in Marshmallow and I have the same prob, doesn't recognise 128gb stick but recognise the wd 500gb passport drive via otg cable fine.

Nope, the s2 Tab cannot read NTFS natively (6.0.1)! You'd need special drivers to make that work.
Hello, how do I get to connect a USB device (flash drive/HDD/microSD) to my Galaxy Tab S2 anyway?? I just ordered a OTG USB to microUSB cable this week, and although physically I can connect a flash drive to my S2 this way, no drive shows up in my S2. I did make sure my drive is FAT32. Is there a particular brand of cable I should buy?

I have always had mixed results with my Android devices - some OTG cables work, some don't. Got this in January and it works fine with my unrooted 8" S2 (T713):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N9S9Z0G
I generally use exFAT for my connected drives. Yesterday, by using a Y-cable with power supplied by a battery pack I connected an exFAT Western Digital 4TB My Passport drive to my S2 (drive sucks too much power to be used without separate power supply).

As stated, the R1 does not support OTG. You can try a powered OTG hub, but your not going to get enough power from the USB port alone on the R1.
Hi Kal250,
Thanks for your reply. Please excuse my ignorance. What is a powered otg hub?
Can you please give an amazon link as a product example?

I can't verify that this will work, there was only one user who reported success using an adapter, though I can no longer find the post, anyhow you can give this a try, you will have to supply power with a charger cable, but I make no guarantee as to if it will work. BLUs official statement is no support for OTG. I'm not responsible if you damage your device(s)!!

I'll try it this weekend.
Holy crap, can confirm.
I first tried using this powered hub, as well as a powered usb otg cord (similar to this one), it read my generic usb stick, as well as a 500gb HD (well, sorta, it saw it but can't read ext4).. Then I tried just the otg cord, powered, and it worked. As long as it was getting external power, it seemed to work just fine.
Bare in mind, it "NEEDS" the powered OTG cord, running it without having a micro usb hooked up to power in and it didn't work at all, at least for me. Though you can run the hub without power, don't know why this is, but it was how it was acting.
Non drive testing:
It also sorta saw my Logitech F310. In that it pops up that it is disconnecting, but never shows up while connected (with gba.emu). A 360 controller did nothing.
Mouse and Keyboard worked just fine.
USB Audio seemed to not work, at least with my crappy Griffin iMic (think it is an apple device, I got it at goodwil). I also tried a Logitech usb speaker (not sure what model). No audio came though, thought the buttons worked (play/stop/volume/skip). All this with "Disable USB audio routing" not on (as well as on, just in case i was misreading it).
I also have a Pinnacle Systems AV to USB2 (old school rca video cables to usb) adapter I "could" check, however I know of no android app that can take that in. I do know it works with linux by default, ala V4L2, but android is a mystery. It does light up, but other then that no idea, looking through dmesg was a bust for me at least. Eh, nitch item anyways, doubt much here would use it.
Can't think of anything else to test at the moment, but I hope this helps you guys out a bit.
Tried the powered OTG cable and was able to mount a USB flash drive. I did not have to root my R1 HD to get this to work. The mounted drive did not show in ES Explorer or in Solid Explorer. But I can go to Settings -> Storage & USB and click on the mounted drive. That puts me in the system file explorer and I can copy files. (Do choose "Show SD Card" in the menu. Otherwise there are not many places to copy to.)
---------- Post added at 11:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 PM ----------
Following up: of course you have supply power to the microUSB port of the powered OTG cable. I tried supplying power from an AC adapter and from an external battery both worked.
Another note: to copy files from the USB flash drive to internal SD or external SD, click on the USB Drive (in Settings->Storage & USB) first, select some files. Then, navigate to the place where you want the copy. If you want to copy to the USB drive, then click on the internal or external SD card (in Settings->Storage & USB) and do the same thing.
I got OTG to work with a powered OTG cable but I couldn't get UVC to work

I bought a Blu R1 specifically to use in a pair of Gear-like VR goggles, as an FPV headset for quadcopter flight. I was hoping to wire (solder) a wireless receiver to a USB UVC stick, run Go FPV (split-screen Cardboard-like vid player), and power all with a 10k mAh power bank battery.
I'm hoping the UVC not working is just a case of a missing driver. Can you (moshiach101) load a webcam app from PlayStore and see if that installs drivers?

OK. I tried it with a USB wall-mount charger, USB-C micro in a brand new power OTG cable, with a Logitech V-U0007 webcam which was shown to work on a PC.
No dice. I conclude the Blu R1 HD does not support UVC via the USB port.
(and the phone is completely useless to me as I have a good phone and Sprint plan for the family already...)
Is there a way to add the UVC driver to the phone?
Is it part of the ROM, kernel?

It should be added by adding an app which needs it.
The UVC setup works with my HTC One M7. Not with the Blu, so I think this is a HW/FW limitation.
Try OTG Patch or similar from playstore

No dice (I just tried). Pretty sure it's an MTK processor, which doesn't do OTG, and probably why it's cheap enough to sell at this pricepoint.

Hi,
I just rooted my blu r1 hd and confirmed it by opening my #supersu app. I have root access. But I still am unable to make my phone detect my otg usb. I tried usb otg helper - but that doesnt seem to help. I tried stickmount and it doesnt work.
Can someone please help?
Thanks so much

Use a powered hub I have tried and it works for most devices (keyboards, mice, and USB drives), but for other devices such as an arduino, which is what I needed, use USB Host Diagnostics to install a patch.
Dear XDA peeps,
You guys helped me in the past when I wanted to connect this portable HD with my S7 Edge. Thanks!
Now I have a different issue.
On the S7 edge, it worked flawlessly, as long as it was formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. (NTFS worked if the phone was rooted)
On the Note8, the HD wont even power. I'm wondering if there's some secret config that could fix that...
Why would the Note8 lack the capability to power the HD when the S7 could do it.. odd.
For reference, this is the model of the HD: https://www.seagate.com/consumer/backup/expansion-portable/ (I'm using the 2TB version)
Hugs and thanks,
Dan.
Any ideas guys? I'm still a bit lost.

most likely a power issue. is the wire split into 2 male usb? one should go to a charger or power adapter and the other to your otg adapter to you phone. try swapping the 2 male usbs from power adapter to phone usb otg.
also try letting the device power on before plugging in your phone. i had the same issue with an external blu ray player i was trying to hook up to my phone.( i eventualy made it work, but i had also a mounting issue which i resolved with MLUSB Mounter app)

This portable HD only has a single cable... It doesn't even need that much juice to run.
What Is really odd is that I could use it with no issues on my s7 edge.
I'm wondering if usb type-c unable to power the device. Or if there's some hidden configuration that will allow it....Or in the end I may have a crappy adapter... In any case... Frustrating.
