So I know the Sband is suppose to be released in the next 20 years which will work with our S4 for those of us that want to remain fit and utilize the Samsung Health assistant, but what do you think of the chances that the Galaxy Gear is going to do exactly this?
I am not trying to start a rumor thread, but I am kind of curious of how this new device will possibly interact with my tablet and /or phone. Has anyone heard anything about this device? I mean for me I am looking forward for something that will replace my fitbit during a good workout.

It's hard to know for sure until the device/specs are officially released but I would be surprised if it didn't work with the latest released devices. Now I could see it possibly being a 4.3 device, meaning until we get 4.3 on our phones/tablets then it might not work.
I'm interested in it as well and looking very forward to the release as I am with the 4.3 update to our phones.
Have they come out with the long lasting battery and back yet? Battery life seems ok rooted... I'm sure it'll be junk in 6 months. I just hope extended battery isn't brick-sized.
I can tell that the inductive charger does seem to change the way it charges. I know that my partner at work has the official one and he is telling me that his battery doesn't discharge as fast as when he charges it through the wall. He refuses to charge it from the wall and now will only do the inductive charging or from a USB off the computer

What made everyone choose this over the LG G watch?
i went for gear live because it has amoled display and the silver thing on the two side makes the watch look a bit premium

Don't forget it's also $30 less as by the end of the year we ALL know we will be owning superior devices anyways.

I absolutely cannot believe they did not include a speaker! I just returned the gear neo 2 because it was running Tizen and not Google wear. making phone calls on it without pulling my phone out of my pocket was the absolute greatest feature.I ordered the gear live because it was running Google wear, thinking of the future. Now I find out it does not have a speaker so I can not make phone calls from the watch. I'm going to return the gear live and go back to the gear neo 2. Wrong decision Samsung.

I honestly don't care for making phone calls on my Gear 2 Neo. If you aren't in a quiet room its near impossible to hear what they are saying.

To each their own.
But it's fascinating to know you don't like it.
I had the Gear 2 Neo for about a week and had good results when not standing in Time Square.
Gear Live 2!
I would like the ability to turn off the motion sensor, sense everytime I move my wrist a certain way my watch just turns on.I look at my watch ocassionally and notice that the screen is on I have indavertenly been touching the screen selecting things. I prefer to touch the screen to turn it on. I have already turned off the screen always on option, but would like to turn off motion as well. Would extend the battery life alot further.

i'm 100% in the not taking phone calls on a watch camp for the same reason i don't use speakerphone when not in a car.
but i would have liked a speaker simply for alarms and stopwatch/timer funcionality. nothing crazy, just a simple beep/chirp would have been enough

See, we can find common ground here! A speaker would make us both happy.
Surprised that Sammy decided to remove a hardware feature rather than adding them (to a point).
Their research must have shown that the cost/benefit was upside-down.
So it goes.
They should have stuck with Gear 2 features and gwear os. I'm sure it will be ported.... I love my Neo 2

I have a feeling that Samsung was forced to make the watch according to Google specifications. (No Speaker, No WiFi, Single Button for turning the device on) There is also a WiFi antenna in the Gear Live that is not being used according to iFixIt.

antenna but they couldn't confirm if there is a wifi controller on the mobo, could just be the cheapest way to order that part for assembly.
i agree that samsung was probably told to stick to the reference design which i'm fine with, but it's curious that google decided not to include a basic speaker for alarm use in the reference design for android wear.
i am however much happier (so far) with the watch than i expected to be. if moto prices the 360 out of what i'm willing to pay, i'm actually satisfied enough to hang on to the gear live until i can get the moto for a reasonable price (i won't pay more than $250 for the 360)

i like the general design of the gear 2, but i am so glad that android made wear, i see adoption for this from a developer standpoint to be much much better than any proprietary garbage os that samsung puts out. and personally, i dislike samsung devices (read: touchwiz) and plan to stay away from them for the foreseeable future.

I don't know, I've been reading about the gear watches and android wear all day and I still just don't see it. Anything that's on there I would normally pull up my phone for, and the small watch screen version and limited functionality (no speaker, small screen, etc)... I think if I get any notification I'll end up pulling out the phone and responding there anyway... Is this stuff just a lazy persons solution to a problem that doesn't exist?? If wear devices were more like little phones with built in wifi, IR (I think some gear watches had this?!), etc at least you could use it to control your movie watching experiences...
I'm probably just getting old and wanting stuff to stay how I'm used to it

I think that IS the point, so you don't have to pull your phone 100 times a minute for every notification, it is trying to "change" the way we use the phone and not trying to replace it. For all that "extras" (Wifi, Speaker, etc, etc) you have the phone.
I love it, I hardly touch my phone now, the battery life on my phone had gotten so much better and I am more interactive responding to all SMSs and facebook/Whasapp messages than before.

the watch essentially becomes a (more useful) implementation of notification triage, i can see what's important and respond to many things without taking out my phone.
it comes down to the user and their daily flow of usage. the big difference with this vs a very limited and closed off system (like samsung's system, or sony's for that matter) is that it leverages two things.
1. android itself as the platform (no seperate market, no need for seperate apps and figuring out how to make sure the apps work with the phone versions)
2. google now, which i think in the long run is going to be the real centerpiece of the platform. as it gets smarter you really will need to use your phone less for basic things since it will offer up the information you need when you need it with even less interaction necessary from the user.
the biggest deal breaker for the samsung system (for me) is the need for a crappy galaxy smartphone. i can't stand touchwiz and the lag samsung's software developers can't seem to get rid of in the many iterations they've had of their software.
i also enjoy the freedom of leaving my phone at my desk, or at home on the charging pad and just checking things on my watch as i go about my day.
i think i like android wear more as i don't want a tiny phone on my wrist to look awkwardly at and speak to people on. i want a companion device that lets me get on with my day and look at my phone less. it's a change in mindset and workflow that pulls you out of your phone and lets you get back into the world.
Yeah ... I'm constantly having to refer to my phone, more with this than I had to with my Galaxy Gear ... After two weeks with it, I feel like I'm done and ready to go back to the Galaxy Gear for good.
But I don't want to give up on it for some reason. I think because what it does do it look better than my Galaxy Gear, in terms of UI. And the always on is very nice.
I dunno ... Maybe I should have just gotten a Gear 2.

As I said in my previous post...I went from the Gear 2 Neo to the Live.
Found out it didn't have a speaker after I ordered it.
Tried it out for 3 days and (same as you) had to refer to my phone more.
Called Google to send it back and the Rep said "yea, surprisingly we're having allot of returns b/c of no speaker and many going back to Gear or Gear 2."
They sent me an email for to fill out stating why I'm returning. She said they're interested in feedback for the next model they release. I hope they listen.
I went back to my Gear 2 Neo and am patiently waiting for the next model (with speaker I hope).
They had the same with the Gear 1, made some changes and launched the Gear 2.
Don't waste your money on something you won't use and be happy with.
Wait for the Gear Live 2.
I think I'm going to suck it up though. When the next one comes out I'll gift it or sell it for $100 or so to subsidize the new one.
So I've decided to bring the old Droid back to life. It was my first smartphone and I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. I think when I get home tonight I'll start charging it up. I'm curious to see how well the batteries last all these years. I have two of them and an external charger.
So I guess my main question is what would be the best ROM for this device now. I'm hoping to use it as a music player in my car. What's the smoothest ROM with the least amount of bugs available? I honestly don't remember what ROM I currently have on it, probably a version of CM.
Do any of you still use the Droid as a regular phone? Where do you guys get the extra batteries for when they go "kaput"? Trying to think of other uses for this little guy in case my car can only support one bluetooth connection at a time.

i love my milestone
for now i guess CM9d is a best bet as functionality to amount of bugs ratio is best (barely any bugs)
the batteries (BP6X) are easily found on ebay aliexpress and such
and using things like splashtop2 gives you option to control your pc/laptop using droid (2 great things about it 1 full hardware keyboard 2 very sensitive touchpad )
also i would suggest to install free motomizer or even better buy motomizer app and use custom overclock to 1.1ghz
anyway good luck with your OG

I'm glad I found this. I'm actually going to do the sme thing. I put my Droid out to pasture after the digitzer went tits up. They're like 10 bucks now, and I don't have anything to lose other than those 10 bucks trying to replace it, so I may as well give it a try! I don't think it's actually going to be useful for anything, I may make it a wifi survailance camera or something. I don't even use Verizon anymore. Maybe I can do VOIP and give it to my still phoneless 9 year old son? lol...
I'm pretty sure I have some version of Bugless Beast on mine.
Man I really loved this phone back in the day.I don't think any other phone I've had thus far has come close to the level of enjoyment I got out of this phone.
Just trying to find out who and what all is still tracking my phone
Any links still to stable good roms, like the CM9 mentioned here?
I continue to find links to pages that are no longer working.
Hi y'all, I've just bought an used Galaxy S5 from AT&T (unlocked by IMEI) and while the phone is on pristine condition (like, OMG it looks brand new) I'm having problems with it. You see, this is my second S5, the first one was from Verizon and it had 4.4.4. but this new one has 4.4.2. and I've noticed a bit of worse performance and some small differences here and there but so far the worse thing on it has been the inability to found updates (and f***** phone let me only look for updates every 24h) and I want a little bit of help with that since I don't know if the fact of being in Mexico makes the updating impossible or if at&t's s5 update in on hold or if I need PC software to update the phone. I don't know how to root the phone but I could/would do it if the benefits are worth it.
The other problem is kinda weird but it happens often: the phone restarts itself while on my pocket. I think it might be a problem with the place where the battery is, being kinda loose or something and my question is, is it safe to use black tape to hold the battery on its position?
Thanks in advance, hope someone is able to help me out a little.
Also, I've heard that the current official android 5.0 for the Galaxy s5 is a bit of a mess, is that true?
Dose Samsung tab s2 8.0 has fast charging feature like note 4?

they've copied apples business model as well... gotta give you a reason to upgrade next year.
Well, to be fair....Samsung has been purposely shorting their legacy devices for a long time now, in effort to force people to upgrade to the new hardware every year. There is no other reason why a TouchWiz or Android feature is available for the S6, but not the S5 when both devices have requisite hardware to make it work.
What is hard to explain though is why a NEW device would have less features than the prior, yet sell for the same price. In addition to a lack of fast charging tech, the Tab S2 is also missing an IR blaster, NFC, Haptic Feedback Motor, and wireless charging.
If Samsung did take anything from Apple....it's that apparently you can sell a bare bones tablet that is pretty & has high quality build materials that mostly just runs apps for big money.

Perfect....good to see Samsung still randomly placing tech here & there, across the 30 different devices they release each year.
For my money, Samsung is still the manufacture of choice for Android devices....but man does Samsung suck at being consumer friendly. They release more devices a year than you can keep up with, they give out little to no information about the products they are working on and they always seem to buck prior trends of product mix themes...making it hard to predict what to expect with the new versions & they offer regional exclusives not available to all consumers (I'm looking at you Iron Man version of S6).

Hi all,
I have searched to no avail, hopefully this is OK to ask and is the right place to ask it?
I have resigned myself to purchasing a new phone as it appears that my knowledge and expectations are lacking and not correct. Therefore I am looking at the or at least the most popular phone(s) that are supported with custom ROM's as I really want to be left alone and not have a $399 Leather Ikea Sofa follow me around 24/7.
What I would like to know is the following:
1. Does this phone have custom Rom support? Or is it popular enough for this type of support or customization.
2. I basically dislike all the carriers due to them shoving their bloatware, privacy invasion down my throat. I would happily pay for apps that work without tracking me and couches following me around.
3. I have Tmobile, intend on getting the phone through Tmobile, are there reasonably easy ways to Unbloat the phone, have admin rights on the phone, deal with privacy issues, and most importantly get updates all simultaneously? I know that once you Root any Android phone the God Carriers will no longer allow ANY updates to work. Additionally, my experience with Kingroot just switched devils.... I was able to deal with my phone and bloatware however traded for the same ads and bloatware with Kingroot. Maybe its changed, it has been a year since I attempted my last Root. Like I stated,, I would gladly pay for apps that are ad and bloatware free and keeping my privacy....
4. Are there better phones?
Your thoughts, ideas and links would be greatly appreciated. I dont mind a little work getting updates, I dont mind slow updates, or even using the Generic Samsung Android Version, I dont need all the apps in the world, I would prefer reasonable privacy more than anything.
Thanks in advance.
The Galaxy S8 isn't the best device for doing custom ROMs on. You need a device that is open without restrictions, the one that already good has root options and so on. I am not saying there aren't any ROMs for it... You can wait to see if Pixel 2 will be any good. I would suggest you to check out a flagship phones(if you want) and make a list of which ones you like and then search on XDA and check out the ROM section for each phone.
Any suggestions.... Im not to picky... I guess I should ask what is the most popular at this time and why???

One Plus 5 is a great phone if you like flashing stuff. It doesn't have wireless charging, the display is a 1080P AMOLED, no mechanical image stabilization, and no official waterproofing. Other then that its great.
well, after the S6 ( i believed) samsung tighten up security on their phones, especially for a new phone like the S8. So customize ROM ( AOSP) is pretty much out the door for the S8( at the time of this comment). Well, if you really want S8, go with the Exynos version, since there is some ROMs available. And if you dont like S8, then maybe take a look, and some research at the LG G6, it's solid phone. Great build, good looking, and from a well-known company.
Get the Note 8 when it comes out soon. Don't get US Snapdragon S8 due to UFS 2.0 storage; US Snapdragon S8+ is UFS 2.1 (something like 300MB/s faster read when comparing). Don't expect to root anytime soon unless you get an international Exynos S8/S8+. I am happy with US Snapdragon S8+ but I kinda wish I waited for Note 8. I plan to root my phone as soon as a root method is published. Oh well, I'll just get the Note 9 next Fall.
