Has anyone had any luck getting Verizon Visual Voicemail working on a custom ROM? I just rooted my D4 and love the latest stable version of Avatar ROM. The battery life improvements alone were more then enough reason to root and ROM. I tried downloading the Verizon Visual Voicemail app from the Play Store. The app installs but fails to connect to the VVM service to verify connectivity. I've searched other xda forums and found multiple answers from updating the build.prop file as shown below to sideloading VVM applications from other hardware. I couldn't find any instructions specific to the D4. Are these apks and build.prop instructions unique to each phone or should they work on the D4 as well? Thanks for the time.
From:
# Set Horizontal VVM = true and ro.HorizontalBUA = true for Incredible#C Verizon build
# Then Verizon VVM/BuA program can check this property to known if there is a Native VVM/BuA in ROM
ro.HorizontalVVM = true
ro.HorizontalBUA = true
To:
# Set Horizontal VVM = true and ro.HorizontalBUA = true for Incredible#C Verizon build
# Then Verizon VVM/BuA program can check this property to known if there is a Native VVM/BuA in ROM
#ro.HorizontalVVM = false
#ro.HorizontalBUA = false
after making these changes reboot your phone and download "visual voice mail" from the market

Go into Titanium Backup and see if Verizon Login is installed... if not you should be able to install it from the market.
Reboot and then you should be able to connect (It does the exact same thing to me with cm10.2 with VZW Messages)
I use YouMail services and -always- delete the voicemail app from big red... useless and problematic.

Still no dice...

Thanks for the response. Verizon Login is installed. I uninstalled both and reinstalled as well. Still get a messsage that VVM is "unable to establish connection to the mailbox." and to try again later.
Tried the build.prop changes listed above as well to no effect.
Tried to backup the stock D4 Motorola Voicemail app from the stock ROM but was unable to install that either.
Looks like its back to the drawing board for some new methods to try. I'll update if I find anything that works. Thanks for the recommendations on Youmail. May try that after I export my current VVMs using the stock ROM.
Still no dice, AGAIN.
I agree with everything above. Still no fix.
I'm running JB build 6.

Hi there.
Question: Custom ROMs not from Canada do not show Canadian only apps such as TD Mobile app (bank app). How does one set the local country so that the Market can detect the proper country?
I recently downloaded Rodrigaz MIUI ROM, and it's really great, except now I can't find my TD Mobile app. I called the bank and said that my phone or phone software is has to be set for Canada. Somehow if I flash my stock ROM it will show Canadian only apps, but some of these ROMs don't.
You're help is appreciated.

I have no problem finding the app using Cyanogen. The Market finds the app based on the fact that I use a Canadian Sim. However the TD app is also protected, which means you won't find it if the fingerprint in your build.prop isn't on Google's white list.
That being said, while you're figuring this out, you can access TD's mobile banking at this URL:
tinyurl.com/tdtouch
Bookmark it

Use Market Access.
Well if I use Cyanogen or the Desire HD port, it not only shows the canadian TD app but also shows the prices in canadian funds with a CA symbol. But any MIUI roms don't. I figured it might be a setting in the build.prop that I could change, but I lack the knowledge of locating such property.

Market Access won't let you see protected apps. TD is a protected app.

Try searching for some of the following protected apps:
Fruit Ninja
A Online Radio
Paperdroid Pro
(not sure if they are still protected but they were the last time I checked)
Do you see any of them? If not, your problem is with protected apps, not with location.
In any case, one simple solution to test: Next time you're trying out Cyanogen, make a backup of the build.prop. Rename your MIUI build.prop to build.bak and paste in the one from CM6. Fix the permissions to what they were before. Then reboot and see what you get in the Market.
Thanks for the reply, I searched for these apps and they're there. About the build.prop, wouldn't mixing from another rom have compatibility issues?

It could be a problem, don't know. There's only one way to find out... I say take a nandroid backup of your status quo before making the changes. If it fails to boot you can do a nandroid restore.
Strange that you see protected apps but not TD. The standard method of identifying your country for the Market is usually based on the SIM. Maybe MIUI overrides this.
I tried using Cyanogen's build.prop file today and it still doesn't show the TD mobile app
I'm at a loss.
Okay well at least there's a workaround: install it from Cyanogen, Titanium Backup, and restore that app to MIUI

Oh, you mean adb pull it from there? I can try that.
I thought I'd mention that a lot of Google search results seem to point to a "fingerprint" or "footprint" feature of the software to indicate what region/country, which is what them protected apps seem to look for. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
You may not be able to adb pull the TD app from your CM6 or stock installation as it's a protected app. But when you back up a protected app with Titanium, it transforms it into an unprotected .apk file... if you reinstall it using Titanium from MIUI it will go back into protected space; or you can browse to the folder and manually install the apk, which will install it as an unprotected app.
Just got a Voice mail showing a mandatory update. Anyone else getting this and any one know what it is?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
It's an update for the visual voice mail app, and (I believe) their service for it. Meaning added features or something.
You can go THIS THREAD to see info about.

Sprint is adding Voice to text to visual voicemail. You need to opt in for the
service, and there will be a monthly fee, but they are forcing you to update
VVM regardless. If you are on a stock rom, you should have no issues, but
custom roms need the Sprint_App_Updater.apk (which is sometimes removed
from the custom roms). I pulled the required files from NFX's 651.2 rom and
pushed them to my phone, even though I no longer use VVM.
How are you guys using voice mail on this rom? Visual voicemail or something else?
Some use Google voice, others are using VVM, myself included.
Method 2 on the Wiki worked for me

VVM is what I use. Working great.
There are lots of folks using the Sprint VVM. There are posts in the wiki on how to install it and get it to work.
I have always used sprint vvm and I couldn't get it to work so I switched to google voice and I love it! Don't think I would go back to vvm
I switched back to VVM cause when I was in Google Voice Mail the phone was taking way to long to go to voicemail it used to ring for ever on the other end...
I use google voice sss well, have sinceas the day I rooted (vvm wouldn't work on the custom rom I used). I don't know about trying to call it as the previous post stated, because between the app and net on my computer, I've always checked and cleared it without having to call.

i set up Google Voice since the VVM mod was only for earlier version of clockwork (not an edify update). GV seems to be working just fin, just need to figure out the test messaging now.
Hey I am using AOSP 2.3.2 and the screen on/off animation is a bit sluggish, anyone else having this issue? I changed the LCD density to 140 like the Wiki said and it still is a bit laggy, any suggestions?
Also my screen scrolling and opening the apps drawer was a little slow and jerky so I got ADW Launcher EX and it fixed the problem. Just thought I would add that if anyone else was having an issue.
BTW love the ROM, I was very happy to see Gingerbread on the hero!
I recently migrated from the Evo 3d to the HTC One. I've got everything migrated except my VMM. Has anyone else had this problem?
Evo 3d: Sprint VVM version T.5.3.3.20 (cannot upgrade further)
Archived all my voicemails.
Copied /sdcard/smvmm folder from the Evo 3d to the HTC One to /sdcard/smvmm folder
HTC One: Sprint VVM version T.5.3.3.22 (cannot upgrade further)
0 messages found in the Archive folder.
Archived a voicemail and confirmed it is still using the /sdcard/smvmm folder.
Force closed voicemail and cleared the data. Ran Voicemail to go through the setup again. Still can't see the archived messages.
I'm really at a loss here. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have success moving voicemails from an Evo 3d to an HTC One?
If it matters, I'm also running:
viperROM One v1.0.3 rom
3.4.10Wolfpack kernel
Will attempt going back to stock when I have more time to test there. Just hoping there are others out there with some insight to this first.
Thanks
Are you using Google Voice?

Haven't used Google Voice on either phone
I don't have my Evo with me right now, but when I get it again, I'll try to upload one of the archived voicemails
It looks like T.5.3.3.22 -> T.5.3.3.20 migration works fine, but going to .22 causes a FC and moves the vnotes files to \sdcard\smvvm\corrupted and rebuilds them. Once those files are rebuilt, it seems the AMR files are no longer referenced for the VVM app. I'm beginning to think this is a compatibility issue
I've tried to install T.5.3.3.22 on the Evo, but the installation failed.

be more specific, which error?
You have to call 611 and make sure that they have provisioned your phone for accessing the service. Since the device has an imei not registered as an AT&T phone.
I found that there are two smartphone plans, both priced the same. One has VVM and the other does not. Both will work everything the same, the only difference is only the VVM plan supports VVM. I had issues with VVM and the store rep fixed that for me.
Rather than start a new thread let me bump this old one to the top (since it has the perfect title already) .
I am getting force closes all of the sudden.
I deleted a message and it FC'ed.
I stopped the service, stopped the app, cleared app cache, cleared data, rebooted, cleared phone cache, cleared dalvik, rebooted, same issue.
Could not restore from titanium. Titanium does have root and i can restore apps from unknown sources. but titanium reports "app not installed".
I reinstalled *just data* from titanium and at least the app launched with no FC. But as soon as a new message came and i deleted it, back to FC city.
Just started out of the blue, working fine until today.
ATT VVM version 2.3.32. OS is Stock 2.17.401.1 as posted by mike1986.
Anyone?
update, i did fix titanium issue (it was an old version of titanium) so i can now restore the old version of ATT VVM. But it still FC's.
may reinstall ROM..
wow this sucks, reinstalled ROM, even tried a much older version as explained in post 9 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146983
no good

I have stock Dev Edition with stock recovery and just had the AT&T Gmail app FC on me today for the first time.
I uninstalled / reinstalled and has worked ok so far.

you mean at&t *voicemail* app?
Tried converting to a system app. (Won't even run in safe mode.) Uninstalled antivirus. Nothing so far.
After reinstalling data-only in titanium you get a notification in the status bar showing you have a message (the welcome message). You can launch the app from the status bar and it works fine (until you delete the message). If you launch it from the app drawer it FC's right away
I guess I could call ATT and re provision the mailbox?
I was sort of hoping not to blow /data. But if worst comes to worst I guess I'll do a factory reset..
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I'll just keep adding to the saga: factory reset does not help.
I wiped data, reinstalled ROM, and then before even signing in to any accounts, just sideloaded the latest att VVM apk. Force closed on a virgin system.
Am I missing something here? If you wipe data and reinstall a totally stock ROM, that's about as much as you can do on the phone side right? It seems like the problem is in the cloud. It's like my voicemail box is possessed. May have to call ATT.
I'll check the ATT forums but usually there is more traffic here.
Sigh. I hate it when things I use a lot just stop working and there is no obvious workaround.
Lol, fixed now: ATT updated the app yesterday from 2.3.32 (poison) to 2.3.33 (fixed).
I discovered this this morning, but not before I had called ATT to delete the entire mailbox and re-provision. All previous versions of their app, new and old, *still* force closed at that point. All hope seemed lost.
Then I visited the play store and noticed the most recent revision date *there* was July 18 and under "what's new" they said "fixes a bug that was causing the application to crash when opened on certain devices" and the angels sang and we all lived happily ever after blah blah
Troubleshooting that bug was a lot of hassle for nothing. ATT can suck my b---
EDIT .. but at least they fixed it
