I am thinking of selling my Velocity, not that I really want to love the thing, however the security restraints and general hard to develop nature of this device is turning me off HTC.
So get to the point you ask
Just putting it out there its not a request, demand by any means I just wanna know if there is anything CM10 in the pipe line due for release soon or is it to hard because of the bad HTC code and security.
I would like to keep the Velocity but there are easier devices out there.
Anything cm10 wise will be at tootz, which you know is on hold...don't think anyone here is really building from source...maybe in the future I may give it a try...but idk

I have only had HTC since I got android, I did some low end stuff with the DHD I had. Upgraded to the Velocity and have not been happy since gonna see if I can somehow get my hands on a GS3 from what I have read it is pretty easy to dev and plenty has been done with it already.
I would like the help bud as I need to learn how to do this for myself I am already setting up a dedicated Ubuntu PC and get things happening

Sounds like a good idea...I've never attempted to build from source, but I have a guy in the infuse section that's gonna walk me through it, gonna get a new 1tb hard drive on Sunday...500gb for windows and 500gb for ubuntu-that should give me plenty of room for building from source as I hear it takes like 20gb just for one build...once I get started ill be happy to help you
What little knowledge I have is decompiling apks and doing minor edits to xml and smali files (for tweaks) unfortunately none of that knowledge does me any good here on the vivid as I can't seem to get apktool to work with the vivid :/
So hopefully sometime between mid week to the end of the week ill be ready to start helping...hopefully

Not a good idea man. HTC has gone too far with locking things down, but Samsung has started on that path. They locked down the Verizon GS3 (it's been cracked, but still) and people are having huge issues with flashing. Many of the dual core GS3's are losing their IMEI after flashing. The grass doesn't look much greener on the other side anymore.

I'm going to see how I like mine by Christmas time, in which I'm buying a Nexus if I don't like it by then. It's not just htc for me it's nexus or nothing from now on. We have a pretty common chipset, we should have a development forum filled with aosp and aokp roms but we don't? Why? Because security is off the chain. It's a taste of things to come honestly. By next year look for android phones to be completely locked down with almost no updates anymore. They are becoming the new feature phones.
But HTCs s thing is ridiculous. It's another hurdle that doesn't exist on every other manufacturer. My captivate was completely unlocked from the factory, rooting took 5 minutes and you kept your data.

We've got at least one phenomenal dev (Jmz) working on this phone, so I would expect to see CM at some point. The kernel was just released, and prior to that, there wasn't much that could be done other than the stock rom. Despite that, he gave us Sense 4+. I don't want to speak for him, and certainly voicing a request is the best way to show interest, but I'd say be patient.
All that said, I cannot wait for CM!

Partially I agree, but partially I don't. He said in the thread for his Sense 4+ ROM that he's currently working on another big app project and that he doesn't have the First as a priority. Wrong. Go look in the One Android Development. It uses a SENSE kernel. That's why they got the Sense Camera to work. They are also porting over other Sense apps too. It has the Sense framework without the UI. It is not true AOSP. Read up before correcting me. I don't post without knowing facts.

It uses HTC's 3.4.10 kernel. The way it worked was Google supplied the ROM and Samsung and HTC supplied the kernels in order to get the ROM working on their hardware. It's not so much a "Sense" kernel as it is a HTC specific hardware kernel.
Howevere, this is pretty much just semantics.
edit: I did read the thread in the ONE forum and one person says the phrase "it has the Sense framework without the UI." No one else says this is true. HTC manipulated thier kernel in order to get it to run Google's ROM. Although the Sense 5 camera was ported over, it does not fully work and many of the apps just FC.

This. Just because the apps work doesn't mean that it's Sense.
On the S4 4.3 leak, they've also been able to get some S-apps to work, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it has the Samsung framework (which it doesn't).

The GE rom is built on the sense framework. HTC did this back in the day with some of its early devices(G2, G2x..etc). Those devices were AOSP looking but built on their common sense framework. So its a kinda Frankenstein rom.

thanks for the link
even the developer of the kernel said its for:
"for Android 4.2.2 Sense ROMs and Stock Google Edition ROMs"
noticed the "and". which means they are different, although its not aosp, that doesnt mean its sense
keep digging yourself into the hole
To the OP, I could be wrong, but I believe the reason people are excited about the bootloader and recovery being ported is that it could be like completely converting their normal Sense HTC One to a Google Play edition, even receiving updates like the real ones.
For us Sprint users, it all comes down to the kernel, as our phones are CDMA and require a whole separate kernel. As we do not have an official 4.2.2 update, there is no fully functioning kernel yet that can be used to make things work.
This is my layman's version that makes sense to me. I hope I'm not throwing out a bunch of misinformation here.

We have lots of them ..which "great one " are you waiting for :what:
Seems like many of the DEVs have left Sprint for Verizon and/or decided they like their Note2's better.A lot of the rest all seem to be obsessed with AOSP/AOKP/CM Roms despite the fact that it removes most of the functionality that makes this phone great.
Unfortunately the blind hatred of TouchWiz for no good reason is hurting this phone.

There are as many good roms for the Sprint version as there are for the others. Also, you guys should feel lucky that that Sprint has felt charitable enough to not lock this device down like Verizon and AT&T have as devs are indeed leaving those versions even as we speak.....

I don't even think I have seen a single Dev from either the epic touch community or gs3 go from sprint to Verizon.I've seen ATT and T-Mobile. Anyways we have many great devs in our community. And you can't expect every single one that you like to get the same phone as you. Since we don't all have upgrades at the same time. Some may have used it on a gs3 and now can't upgrade until gs5 or simply don't have the money to upgrade. We are all regular people. My guess is that by black Friday time we will have many more devs come over. This happened with the gs3. The number of Roms jumped a lot from what I remember since some people were able to get the gs3 for a penny with an upgrade.
And since when is there a blind hatred for touch wiz. Over the past two years I have seen more people prefer Touchwiz Roms over AOSP based. Easy comparison, check the number of posts and views of all aosp based Roms to that of touchwiz. And tell me which one has more. This goes for the sprint gs3 as well. From my view Touchwiz is the most stable and fully functional ROM for Samsung phones.

"stock" doesnt get ported to any nexus device, since they run "stock" default. to port sense to a nexus is extremely hard as it needs htc's framework, and if it does happen it would be partially if any bit at all. this will take lots of time and effort! and considering sense is not open source, you will not have any direct access to its code. anyways, considering that people are still trying to port the last version of sense, i wish you good luck.
I encourage all development but this might be quite difficult with closed sources and the framework. If XpLoDWilD can hack into the snap dragon processor and enable always listening from the low powered core then this is possible as well. I doubt devs of that caliber will focus on porting sense to a specific device non htc device though.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
well, you need damn good smali and hex knowledge, as you need to modify the bootstrap in a special lib and add support for s800 ://
it is possible but hard to achieve (well, last word is maybe incorrect, im sorry for that )
Best regards,

I doubt that you will ever see it happen. Which is too bad because of all of the different overlays Sense is by far the best. Unfortunately HTC is not particularly forthcoming with the source code for, well....anything. Having come from the Amaze (Ruby) HTC proved to be very difficult to deal with.
this would be amazing.. loved sense 6 the second I saw it.. but it would be great even if I got a kind of launcher at least. Stock android is great too

Sense is closed source.
They are releasing blinkfeed in the playstore in the coming weeks/ months. You could easily download a sense like launcher and icons. I did play with the newest m8 at the ATT store and I can say I was very impressed. You could also make the clock widget in zooper, combine all that with blinkfeed and you have yourself an almost sense experience.
Go buy the "new" HTC One
Not that simple when you don't have a job

It's possible, but it would be extremely difficult and would require reverse engineering of the libs and some binaries, as well as likely needing a fully modified kernel and ramdisk. By the time it got fully stable, if it ever did, we would probably be at the release of sense 7.

Good job! I came here to link to that thread.
For anyone confused by the title, check out this post in the thread.
In my several years on XDA, I've seen a few attempts to port OEM skins (usually Sense and Touchwiz) to devices from other manufacturers. Of those attempts, exactly zero of them were successful. As much as I'd like to see this (and I would - Sense is actually pretty awesome), it's just not going to happen.

This is really cool, and I hope it ends up working. As of right now, it's only partially functional, which is about as far as most of these ports get.
Don't get me wrong - I'm pretty excited about the possibility of this. It's just that I've seen a lot of these before, and they always end up going dead after a promising start. Here's to hoping this one is different.
