REQ: Android UPnP player?

I for the life of me cannot find a good UPnP or DLNA app for the android, I tried the one that comes with our phone (allshare) and it reads and picks up fine but the problem is when I try and play a video it wont let me.
Seems like a common situation with all the other UPnP apps that I saw. I just want to know if there is any apps that are even close to good.
I have tried orb and its not that great for video.
For me on SUSE 11.2 system, the problem with Allshare not playing audio and video files turned out to be some problem with the media server. After I replaced mediatomb with minidnla, Allshare played those files just fine.
The Allshare player app still isn't very good though; is on a par with UPnPlay.

Hm I'm using lemonade firmware via verizon 7501 router. I'll give minidlna a try. every other device I have that uses dlna doesnt have a problem with playback except the captivate.
Search for DLNA servers that transcode. The problem is not a Captivate problem, but one with the whole concept. No one defined what plays where so more likely then not, the server has files the client doesn't understand. The solution is a server that can transcode on the fly. they do exist.
here is a very old comparison link;
http://www.rbgrn.net/content/21-how-to-choose-dlna-media-server-windows-mac-os-x-or-linux
I actually found that link (due to crs, I'd already forgotten it) and used it to search for available linux alternatives to mediatomb; minidlna was just the first I found. Looks like transcoding is an open question for minidlna.
Anyway, it seems that Allshare is a more robust server than client application.
thanks for the link and info I'll give them a try
VLC Stream & Convert
Have you tried using VLC Stream & Convert? This is advertised as a mere remote control for VLC, but it also handles streaming direct to the phone. Have to make sure you set up VLC and firewall properly on the server then connect with your phone to use phone as a remote, or to watch/listen on the phone.
AndroMote is also a great app. Will work with any UPnP media server. However, this only streams audio. Just make sure you go into settings and choose the local device as the media renderer, or you will receive error message when you try to play a file.
If these 2 apps are no good for you then I would suggest loading a ROM that has cifs (samba) support. Then you can map all your media to your filesystem.

If the file won't play via allshare, it probably will not play if you copy it down to the phone. I just convert all my media on my DVR to mp4 and copy to my phone via USB- I can stream it via allshare if I want to, but if I am home I watch on a bigger screen. If I am away I have it with me, I am not going to try and stream a 500MB file to my phone.
BTW, FTP server should be faster then Samba and there should be an android FTP client in the market.
Do we even have a rom that has samba support?

No I want to send Audio\Video to my PC from my phone. CR Cast is what I wanted it just not working right now. Its for when I move around my house I would like to send my Podcast from the Living Room Chromecast to my PC in the Kitchen.

So you want to use your desktop computer as a Chromecast?
I don't know of anything other than CR Cast. If it was an Android desktop then you could use CheapCast. I'm not sure whether CheapCast will work with the BlueStacks App Player. Let us know if you try it.
There is also LeapCast, but it's quite annoying to set up.
It needs you to compile it in Python 2.7.5 (don't install the newest).
https://github.com/dz0ny/leapcast
For some reason, I failed to run it.
If you succeed, please let me know how you did it.
I thought that the V2 Cast SDK required some hardware keys that aren't available outside, so it broke the software-based Chromecast emulators.
Cast v2 emulator
I found this new tool that claims to support cast v2 screen mirroring feature. It is available for both Windows and Mac.
XDA won't let me post links, so copy/paste the following link in your address bar.

By enabling network settings and windows media player, you can use apps (avia, localcast or allcast) to cast to your desktop.
Allcast also has a chrome extension allcast receiver that only works with allcast.
Sounds to me (maybe I'm misreading it) that what he wants is the ability to Mirror to a PC as opposed to a CCast.

How can I user chrome to access PC file?

Hi guys,
When using chrome on PC we can type: file//192.168.x.xxx to access the file on server file. However, when using Android phone, is it anyway around that I can access file (mp4 file) on server using Chrome? The reason that I need to access the file using Chrome is I want to cast it to my PC.
Or anyway that send mp4 file to my TV using ChromeCast (my chromecast is unroot)
Any help would be appreciated.

Real Player will play files via URL and has just added Chromecast support...
Not sure what you mean by streaming to PC since you get the file in chrome using the URL already.

Chrome for Android doesn't support extensions, so it's moot (not to mention, even if it did work, it would kill your battery and overheat your phone with the CPU load for the required real-time decoding and re-encoding).
You could
Run Plex Media Server on your PC and Plex client on your phone. This will make whatever you give Plex access to playable on phone and on Chromecast regardless of the original format, because your PC would do any required transcoding of the video to a Chromecast-compatible format.
Run a DLNA server on your PC and use Avia on your phone. This would let Avia on your phone "pull" the video from the PC and "push" it to Chromecast. Only videos in Chromecast-compatible format will play, though.
Install RealPlayer Cloud and upload your videos from your PC to RealPlayer Cloud. RealPlayer Cloud does any requires transcoding via their SurePlay feature, so you will be able to play what you have uploaded to RealPlayer Cloud on phone and Chromecast regardless of the original format.

Assuming Chromecast works OK for other clients (ie, YouTube from Android/iOS mobile), then it's probably
network issue (router not allowing traffic between wired and wireless segments, etc)
other Chrome extension
antivirus
firewall
Windows network location setting (Public/Private/Work/Unknown)

i have no firewall.
i tried disabling the anti virus, that didnt help.
i dont think it's a network issue because the same computer can see and cast from wondershare media center. (android device working too)
i have this problem only using chrome browser and google cast extension.
there is some problem with this extension but i cant figure out what.

Do you have any other Chrome extensions installed? If so, try disabling them, even if they seem like they would be unrelated.

Android and Windows - streaming RMVB to chromecast

I wanted to ask if there is any way / workaround to stream rmvb files to chromecast. I need solution to stream local media files that are stored on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and from my Local computer directly to chromecast.
Any thoughts? There are literally 3 threads in this forum that even mention this format.

Real Player Cloud...What you have is a Real Player Format video.
Real Player is probably the only App that will play those files properly and definitely the only one with CCast support.

No. Real player cloud to my knowledge DOES NOT support rmvb on android device. I know this sound stupid but what can I say...

Glad you got it covered in Bubble!
Maybe you should just start listing what it DOESN'T do to save time! LOL

I assume you installed it but all settings in Settings > Chromecast remain disabled ?
Check that the windows firewall is not blocking trafic on UDP port 1900. Eventually disable the firewall temporarily (and restart Android BubbleUPnP) to check if it is the cause of the problem.
Also make sure that BubbleUPnP Server started properly by displaying its web inteface. If it shows up, it's good.

You are probably right. I tried on another computer and it worked. Problem is that on the computer that I want it to play I do not have administrator access and I cannot disable firewall.... Any other suggestions?

You can bypass automatic discovery of BubbleUPnP Server by connecting manually to it:
http://bubblesoftapps.com/bubbleupnpserver/#android_configuration
You will have to set a login/password in the web interface. Use its LAN ip address for connecting.
After that, Settings > Chromecast will show that it is connected by displaying its ip address.

What is so funny about that. Look online. This is the most common format to get decent quality low size movies. You would appreciate if you were on 3G network with transfer limits as I am...
