Hi guys, I'm new to this, and im a complete NOOB, so please bear with me. I have a tmobile xperia z running 4.1.2 and I just rooted and installed custom recovery (twrp via app) and when I go to the recovery sometimes the touch screen doesn't work. Anyways, I flashed a lock screen mod and it worked fine. But then I flashed 3 other mods and when i pressed on reboot the phone boot looped. I've heard I'm supposed to use flashtool. Sorry I have no idea how to do that please give me easy to understand step by step instructions. Thank you so much and once again sorry for my ignorance.
Search for the applicable stock rom for your device in the general section, then follow this guide to flash it - How to flash stock roms with Flashtool

The best way is to use your already installed pc companion and chose repair
You can do that by starting pc companion and attach your phone in flashmode (Press vol down and power for 15 sec until vibrates 3 times thats means is OFF) press vol down and plug in the usb cord. if your battery is flat, charge it by charging dock, or wall charger wait few hours (without sw the charging controlled by hw and slow).
It will work but you'll lose all your contents.
Or if you can get into recovery just look for another rom with same version number and replace the files manually to do that use aroma file manager
1, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
download copy it onto your sd card (should be a zip)
2, unpack the modded files from another rom / than boot recovery
2,1 make a note where the apk each of the files should go example:. system / app/ or system / framework
2, 2 mount all partitions
2, 3 to be sure what files you need check the contents of the mods you used check what files they modding...example framework.apk in system/framework folder
2,2 than chose install zip / chose aroma.zip / flash
3, you got a file manager so you can navigate in your device
3,1 select the apk copy where is supposed to be change permission rwx r r
hope is helps

Thank you but It's been on preparing computer for software update for about half an hour so far. Is it supposed to take that long?
With all respect to others opinions, flashtool is the best way to go, because -
1. You will not lose your data like a repair.
2. No need to mess about copying files over and changing permissions manually etc. (Why this was suggested, I'm not sure).
Next time you install any mods, you should backup your system via the custom recovery before flashing and this sort of thing will be avoided.

What custom recovery should I use and can you link a tutorial on how to install it. Because all I did was install the app doomlord posted and it was called xzrecovery. But as I said the touch screen wouldnt work.

First of all, you need to use flashtool to get your phone working again.
This recovery is the most recommended around here - [TOOL/UTILITY][LOCKED BOOTLOADER][ TWRP 2.6.0.0][CWM 6.0.3.3] XZDualRecovery

Hi guys. I have a sony xperia t and i forgot my screen lock pin. i tried to find how to unlock it over the internet but none of the ways is working. If i connect it ot a computer and try to use the Sony PC Companion it says that the screen has to be unlocked. If i try to enter the recovery menu by holding the volume button and the power button it just vibrates 3 times and doesn't switch on at all. Any suggestions?
Thanks

enter recovery by turning off. Then turn on and only when you see the sony logo repeatedly press the volume up button.
What you are doing is the hard reset.
You could restore a backup you made before making the pin, of just do a factory reset. You will lose all your data, but you will be able to get into the phone.
Pressing once is sufficient, if done at the right time.
If on stock, while the sony logo is displayed, wait for the notification led to turn violet. When violet, press and hold volume-up. This will bring you to recovery.
To retain your data, provided you rooted, you could try to get your /data folder via ADB. Or make a backup (tar, not dup!), format the phone and then manually extract the contents of the .tar file and restore your data.
hi guys and thanks for the replies. i can't make it work. it's locked to 3 if that makes a difference. i start pressing the volume up button when the sony logo appears but the phone just boots normally and the led light doesnt even flash.

Have you rooted in the past?
Have you installed a recovery?
The phone does not come with a factory installed recovery.
Yes, it sounds like you have not installed recovery, in which case flashtool is your best bet, but you will wipe the phone if you flash an ftf.

doesn't the phone need to be with debugging mode switched on to use flashtool? i had a look at a few threads but all of them say that i have to have debugging on. i cant access my phone so that's a bit of a problem...
Yes it does...my only suggestion now is to take it back to the shop. If you forgot the unlock they must have a way of factory resetting the handset
EDIT, My mistake, the only thing you can do in flashtool with usb debugging off is flash stock FTF's
Well, the phone does come with a stock recovery that does miss out on all the great CWMR features but should offer wiping facilities. Every Android device does or should. Doesn't it?
For flashmode, usb debugging is not needed, as the phone boots into a state separated and independent of the OS and kernel.

xperia phones do not come with a built in recovery.
Flashtool does not require you to be in usb dubbing mode in order to flash.
right..i tried to flash it using the latest(i think) version of flashtool (0.9.9.0)..downloaded an ftf file and tried but i can't make it work. when it asks me to boot the phone it shows me the instructions for xperia x10, so i dont know whats the combination of buttons in order to boot it. help would be much appreciated. thanks
Read the instructions on Greg's q&a thread, all in one guide. It's easy to follow and there are numerous explanations on how to use flashtool.
Make sure you have placed an ftf in the firmware folder for flashtool and follow the instructions on Greg's guide.

Yes, the Q&A thread is a good read.
But with the latest flashtool you can drag and drop ftf files into the open window withoout having them in the firmware folder.
You get a picture of the x10 because flashtool was originally developed for the x10 but the instructions to enter flashmode are found in the q7a thread. Icould tell you here but that will mean you miss the opportunity to read the first 3 posts in that thread that have most (If not all) your questions answered.

Hello all!
Ok so i just got my daughter the c5306 sp on virgin about 2 weeks ago. Her friend decides to show her the mcafee app and inputs a fake email and pin.
the phone is now LOCKED!
Literally can't do anything NOR can i find a hard reset option. i tried several key combination hoping for android recovery but NADA!
And the pc companion, useless in this situation as it needs me to unlock the phone for it to work... oh and that reset button on the back... crud!
any help, anyone know how to get to android recovery?
any help is much appreciated
the sony xperia range don't have a stock recovery built in unless cwm recovery was installed and rooted before your daughter was shown/given the phone.
If it was try shutting phone down then restart and start pressing (repeatedly) vol down to enter recovery but this will only help if a backup was made which you can restore if no backup exists you to follow the next step.
If not you need to shut down phone then either use sus,PCC,flashtools to reflash the phone.
I would recommend flashtools and find the ftf you need on Sp forum then use this to get phone back working

Omg this is amazing help!
Ok so I have flash tools, is there a specific way to use it, the instructions are a little unclear.
So SP forums and get stock tft to flash with flash tools? Ok I'll try to get ahold of it! Thank you

You can find the stock .ftf files here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
You download and open flashtool (from here depending on your PC OS :http://flashtool.net/ )
Shut your phone down
From flashtool press the lighning button
Then select flashmode and press ok
Select the .245.ftf file (its the latest kernel released by Sony that you downloaded from the link above)
And then press flash
then it will open a new window showing a phones a usb cable and a back button
With your phone powered down you hold the "Volume Down" button down and while holding plug the Usb cable to your phone
It will take some time flashing the data and then it will say "Phone Connected in flashmode"
Disconect and boot the phone
This procces could Hard brick your phone so be careful and follow the steps!!!
If you are not willing to take the chance just do it with SUS
open it then go to update phone/tablet
fix phone/tablet and follow the instructions on the screen
But it will be ok i flashed kernel 4 times to my phone (for rooting it)
Good Luck
you can use SUS to reflash the fimware
Hi all!
I tried using ROM Toolbox's Font Installer function to change the fonts on my phone. Currently it's stuck in a bootloop - turns on, shows Sony and Xperia logos and just repeats from there. I can't seem to start my phone into recovery mode, sadly, or maybe I'm doing it wrong?
Knowing that it's only the font change that caused this is it possible to flash JUST the stock font files from my computer to rectify the problem (using Flashtool or similar), or am I looking at having to flash stock rom and re-root and then restore the TWRP recovery I have?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Do you did a Nand backup?
If yes you can flash stock again and restore it..

Black screen for a few seconds then it just reboots again.
Pimp my rom and rom toolbox will do this if not careful.
If you happened to (or in the future) make a backup with the program, itll make an "undo changes" rescue file for you. So you can restore settings easily without restoring a full nandroid.
Nevermind, itz a Pimp my rom feature only, but will restore many changes made by toolbox as well. I can confirm with toolbox that the fonts and themechooser, and sometimes icon changer kill my phone, but the boot animations work beautifully, especially the "tablet" ones.
Also if you cant get to recovery check out http://www.modaco.com/topic/299479-howto-performing-a-nandroid-restore-manually-using-adb/
Hi, I had this exact same problem after changing the font using RomToolbox on my Xperia Z (USA T-mobile Branded, Rooted, Stock)
causing a bootloop. To resolve this is luckily very easy.
1) Download the stock ROM FTF file available here on the forum for the version your currently running (this happened to me on 4.1.2)
2) Download, Install and Launch Flashtool, then boot the phone into Flashmode by holding the Volume UP + Power until the device vibrates 3 times. Plug in USB cable to computer, than into phone WHILE press and HOLD Volume Down. Flashtool will tell you that your in flashmode which means your good to go!
3) FlashTool should be launched already, select the stock firmware - and Flashmode - then just do the following.
UNCHECK everything EXCEPT: "System" and "Reset Customizations". This will restore the SYSTEM partition and reset whatever customizations you may have had (INCLUDING ROOT) but now you will upon completion of just flashing the system partition reboot into your normal lock screen with all of your data, apps, settings etc intact. You will have to re-root using the tool for 4.1.2 or if your on 4.2.2 I used the KINGO root even though - it's supposively suspicious it works on the t-mobile stock 4.2.2. firmware with no issues.

Okay...first off dont do anything to your phone if you dont know 100% that it will work or is compatible with it. But therr should be a way to fix it
First download flashtool and install it and when everything is installed download a ftf file (its a stock rom) you dont need to be rooted or have your bootloader unlocked. Load the ftf file in flashtool once its done downloading then when the little box comes up, put your phone into flash mode. To.put your phone into flash mode hold the volume down button for 2 seconds then plug your usb cable in while still holding your volume down button and hold it until the little box disappears and it starts to flash the when its done unplug your phone then voilà brand new just like out of the box
Hope I helped you.

If you really want your phone to be rooted then follow the steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583333&page=4
Its basically 4.3 JB with no bloatware and rooted you also follow the steps i showed you towards the end
You have to use custom recovery to flash the zip on the phone then turn off the phone and put it flash mode and flash the 20mb file (its just the boot files) and you'll have the newest firmware available and have been rooted.
Hi guys, big fan here. I have been hanging around here for quite some time now but this is my first post
I was trying to put CM11 on my phone. After taking a backup in TWRP when i tried to put CM11 there suddenly the logs declared that system partition cannot be read. I am on a unlocked boot loader. I did try to use a backup but the same error that system partition is not readable popped up. Then I rebooted the phone only to find that its forever stuck on the Sony logo with a red light. I read up and found that I can flash a .ftf file to do things right. Just now I found that my phone stays in flash mode only for a small time and then again starts to show that crap Sony splash screen.
Can some kind developer or enthusiast like myself please help me??

Thanks for replying. Yeah, it does vibrate thrice, that's how I turned it off for the first time. I downloaded the ftf file. Also, if I put it in flash mode, after nearly a minute the led turns red and the Sony logo is back.

Ok. Download the stock kernel for your Xperia device and place it inside Flashtool folder . Make sure your device is switched off and open Flashtool on your PC. Connect your phone by holding VOLUME DOWN Button until green LED lights up. You have your device connected in fastboot mode now. As you said that your phone restarts after a minute so you gotta be fast , quickly hit the smart lighting button and select Fastboot mode on Flashtool and select kernel to flash. Once the kernel starts flashing wait for it to finish and voila you're done.
Warning - I will not be blamed for brick or dead devices, it is a method that is risky so proceed at your own risk***

I did that already to unlock my bootloader. I have access to a linux system. Do you think it'll be better if i use it???
Thanks guys. The phone is up again. Here's what I did.
1. Tried Fastboot mode and it worked.
2. Downloaded Doomkernel.
3. Flashed using flashtool.
4. After flashing this kernel I was able to boot into recovery (philz touch).

Thanks guys. The phone is up again. Here's what I did.
1. Tried Fastboot mode and it worked.
2. Downloaded Doomkernel.
3. Flashed using flashtool.
4. After flashing this kernel I was able to boot into recovery (philz touch).
5. System partition still couldn't mount. I read somewhere that formatting it can help. As does unmounting everything else.
6. Mounted system and flashed Existenz rom again.
