i lost recovery while flashing gingerbread asop rom,now my phone wont boot past the x screen it stays stuck at the triangle with an ! point in it and the android icon on the bottom .Can some one please help me bring my n1 back to life?
Can you get to the bootloader screen?
How can u back your device
I hope u have usb mode enable under system settings.Anyway it may work agün ı use it so much for recovery.
So there is yourstep
1-First Download Htc Orginal non edited Htc N1 image.
2-Download Android SDK
3-Then bootyour device with trackball push with the same time man.
4-İts open a console mode which is recovery and etc.
5.Then open your commoand center(windows icon thne type cmd and change ypur directory to andorid sdk install folder=C:\android-sdk-windows\tools)
6-Orginal Steps But u can use my way:
7-When the commoand promt: Confirm fastboot connection fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata--This step may not work but dont be panic man ok--
fastboot erase cache--This step may not work but dont be panic man ok--
8. Go to the directory that you stored your unzipped files.U need open and cmd and chnge diretory whre the file is okk--
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
9.Skip to step 13 if you want to keep recovery (assuming you have a modified recovery such as Amon_RA's recovery). If not fastboot flash recovery recovery.img--U use orginal one.You must need for frg83d update--
Step 10. fastboot reboot
After that u can update
Google are pushing out a 1.3MB FRG83 -> FRG83D patch OTA.
The file can be downloaded here - http://android.clients.google.com/pa...3.ecb21b75.zip
Just change your file name update.zipput sd card and install over recovery mod ok
I've had a quick look at the zip, in summary:
* Updates to the core and framework JARs
* Updates to the Dalvik VM and Webcore libraries
* Updates to the Email, Google Services Framework and and Market packages.
* A couple of other very minor patches
AFTER THAT U CAN ROOT YOUR DEVİCE
So u can install amonra after that ok.
Ps:Make some noise if its work okkk
yes but thats as far as it goes , when i press recovery it goes to the triangle screen
exactly what do i type cuz my fastboot isnt picking up my device
If you flashed Chris' AOSP build then you can use the recovery to flash a CM ROM and then use adb to flash a custom recovery.

But he doesnt have a custom working recovery and it seems his fast boot doesnt work. This is some predicament.
how would i get fastboot to work?
Isn't the triangle the recovery? Just rename a Cm ROM to update.zip on the root of your SD card and then go into recovery. It takes a bit but it should start loading the ROM. I did the same thing when I loaded the ROM.

Still stuck !
You stuck at the triangle of error screen when go into recovery?
That mean you can go into fastboot/bootloader?
Seems that you flash HBOOT 35.0017
I believe you need to be fully booted, or in recovery, and have usb debugging enabled to use adb.
To get fastboot to work, install the latest sdk drivers...

Going back to stock
What you need to know before going back to stock:
Your bootloader will never be "LOCKED" again. You can't restore it. You can only relock it.
"TAMPERED" text in bootloader will disappear only after proceeding method 2.
There are 3 main methods. All three will be described below.
Method 1 - only for users with .401 devices (for more info click here - RUU variants)
Visit this thread - [ROM] HTC One *STOCK* ROM
Download stock odexed version of most recent firmware and recovery.img
Move recovery.img to c:\mini-sdk location
Boot your device in recovery mode (power off the device and turn it on using power + vol down buttons and select "RECOVERY")
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard".
Navigate to the location of stock ROM (zip) package and confirm flashing procedure.
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device in bootloader mode.
Connect your device to the PC
Boot your device in fastboot mode (like you did during unlocking bootloader - power off the device and turn it on using power + vol down buttons and select "FASTBOOT")
Open up command prompt ( Start > Run > type cmd and hit enter ). The window that appears is called Command Prompt. <click here to see the image>
Navigate to where you unzipped "mini-sdk" package (type in Command Prompt: cd c:\mini-sdk). Note: make sure the path is not c:\mini-sdk\mini-sdk
In the Command Prompt type following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You have now stock boot, system and recovery partitions. Time to relock your bootloader.
In the Command Prompt type following command: fastboot oem lock

mini-sdk: http://goo.gl/T6InE (credit mike1986.)
make a folder in C such as: minisdk. Then extract everything in the compressed file to C:\minisdk. You should have fastboot.exe and adb.exe in that folder (together with other api file)
now, you should move the recovery image and odexed rom to C:\minisdk and follow the steps in my previous post.
Please read whole process before starting so you can have a clear picture of what you're gonna do

I suggest you to S-OFF your device so you can remove the tamper message/lock/relock/unlock your bootloader easily. Go to One Original Android Dev forum, search for a thread "s-off with revone" (usually at first page) and follow the instruction
Hi,
After updating my phone to Kitkat, i was trying to get a custom recovery and root. I have read few posts and i am confused. I see there are 2 options to keep the stock kernel, but to have a custom recovery. 1. Doom and second is Nut. I am unable to extract the boot file from Doom's kernel so cant flash it and for Nut's method i need a recovery.
So is there a way to get a custom recovery (stock kernel) and root for a unlocked z1 c6902 KK?
Flash doom stock advanced kernel, there is no need to extract anything.
Download it and flash in fastboot.

Just download doomlords latest kernel and install using latest flashtool 9.15 I think. Flash in fastboot mode no need for typing and risking a chance of typing something wrong.

As per instrucion in that page, you need to flash his kernel via recovery (i dont have one yet). Or you need to extract the boot.img and flash which i want to do but cant do as i am unable to extract the file.
Edit- Just saw gregbradley's reply in doom's post. it worked.

Hi Ravi
Yes, the file you link is correct.
to install the img,
try this, it worked for me.
If you have flashtool (9.15) recommended. Place the img file inside the folder called Flashtool\x10flasher_lib.
In my case I renamed it to boot.img (not sure if it would work without renaming, didn't want to take that risk)
then, go into command prompt. Change to the folder mentioned above. example: cd "c:\Flashtool\x10flasher_lib"
turn off your phone and disconnect USB.
type the following and press enter.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
which will then say < waiting for device >
at this stage, hold the volume up, and connect the USB cable. This will boot your phone is fastboot mode and will allow fastboot to flash the boot image you indicate above.
when it says finished. you're done. Just disconnect the USB cable and boot your phone.
Hope this helps.

Yup, this file worked for me, instead of flash tool i used adb. I think the confusion is because the post by doom asks us to flash it using recovery or extract just the boot file. I think he needs to update the post as you just have to flash this via flashtool or adb.

They are two ways of flashing a the kernal. the latest one can only be installed using flashtool or fastboot unless you replace the boot.img in the zip folder for "Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v01 (FW:14.2.A.1.136) {RECOVERY FLASHABLE}".
Since you dont have a recovery i recommend you use flashtool(latest one) (fastboot might be a headache since install deals with driver if you habe windows and android sdk).
To do this you need to:
1.Open flashtool
2.Turn phone off then go to fastboot mode (connect usb while phone is off and holding volume up button BLUE LED should show once connected)
3. Click on lightning icon
4.Select "Fastboot mode"
5. click "select kernal to flash"
6. locate the .img image you downloaded (you might have to change the selection thing on the bottom from *.sin to *.img)
7. Click and it will auto install.

Hi guys, today I am going to share this simple tutorial on how to root without unlocking bootloader of sprout.. Many people asked me how to do so I am here to create a simple tut for everyone..
Requirements
1. Any custom recovery for sprout (I prefer philz http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...e-general/sprout-philz-touch-v6-57-9-t2887574 )
2. Fastboot files (google for minimal fastboot) and fastboot drivers
3. Supersu update zip (http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu)
Proceedure
1. Install fastboot drivers and fastboot files..
2. Rename the custom recovery as "recovery.img"
3. Place the recovery.img within fastboot directory (where the fastboot.exe located)
4. Put supersu.zip in root of your phone's sd card
5. Connect your android one device to pc using usb cable in fastboot mode (switch off phn and press power+vol up and then select fastboot)
6. Use the following fastboot command
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
This command will not flash the recovery, it will just let your phone boot into recovery and it will work on locked bootloader
7. You will get the recovery menu then. Install the previously downloader supersu.zip from external sd card using the recovery menu.
8. Congratulation, You have successfully rooted your android one device without unlocking bootloader...:good:
Here is a video guide created by @thesaurabh7777, u can check it..

2. @Chainfire for supersu.zip
thanks
Thank you. Just what i wanted.
Anyone tried? And how to unroot if needed ?
UPDATE : I tried. It works and works like charm. I have created CWM backup of my stock ROM, rooted device and installed xposed also.
You can always unroot from settings in SuperSu - Which essentially removes itself and su binaries.

Hi, if I root my device this way, just to backup some apps via TB, and not modify the system any other way, are you sure just unrooting will be enough to safely apply the Kitkat to Lollipop OTA?
I've read about this new "verified boot" thing in Lollipop, which essentially means if you modify system partition in any way, even if just to add the SU app/binaries, the OTA will fail (where it obviously didn't use to, before lollipop). I'm not sure if this verified boot thing will apply to the OTA for Kitkat to Lollipop too, or just updates From Lollipop to future versions.
(AP did an article just a couple of weeks back, check it out here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...e-means-update-will-fail-system-modified-way/ )
I have made a backup of Stock ROM before rooting it,so when LOLLIPOP arrives and in case i have changes some system files, i can simply restore the stoock ROM to recieve the updates right???

Yes .. if I remember correctly this unlock_critical will erase data. That's why it is advised to do it right after unlocking bootloader.
BTW .. the OTA Flasher that is linked at item no. 3, also available at originally posted on XDA - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78123332&postcount=457
