I put ClockWorkMod recovery on a bootable SD card and used it to put ManualNooter on my nook. But the environment ManualNooter gives me is super lame, so I wanted to replace the stock walled-garden Android with Cyanogenmod7.2 (or even better, a Honeycomb rom if anyone can find me one), and be able to install the google apps .zip that has market in it. Bootable CWM on SD can do this, right?

Yes, the bootable CWM SD can flash things to the internal memory of the nook. CM7.2 (gingerbread android) is very stable. There is no stable Honeycomb for the nook. Google never released the source code for that so all versions for the nook are terrible. But there is Ice Cream Sandwich (CM9) which is the next higher version of android above honeycomb. It is still under development so is not as stable as CM7, but head and shoulders above honeycomb. You can get that following this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=909
And you can flash gapps with the CWM card too.
Ok, I tried that an before I even got to the CWM menu (where it lets you select "select zip from sdcard", etc), it hung on the skull-and-crossbones LOADING menu. Been like this for 15 minutes now. This exact same CWM card worked when I flashed ManualNooter, but it's hung now. Problem is, how do I turn it off it doesn't seem possible to remove the battery from this thing.

Hold the power button for like 15 seconds until it totally powers off. Try using my CWM card found in my tips thread linked in my signature (item A10).

THanks. I got it to work, but CM7.2 is full of bugs (no softbuttons or taskbar, for one). Looking around for other roms now. Thanks!

Then something is not right. There are no bugs in CM7.2. Did you factory reset with CWM before you flashed CM 7.2? You need too. You can still do it now and things will improve dramatically.

Oh. Factory reset is safe? OK. Did not know. Will try this.
Also, I tried some of the ICS roms, but the'res a graphics bug - things that were on the screen previously do not get removed from the screen unless they get painted over. I'm an amateur game developer, so I liken it to drawing each successive frame without clearing the screen of the last frames. That's what it is, really. I tried with and without openGL and it still has the problem.
I just got a Nook HD+ yesterday, with firmware 2.0.6. I really want to get it work on CM10.
I have tried both the Original SD method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38153094#post38153094
and the Hybrid HD method as found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38153094#post38153094.
I used WinImage to write the image to SD card (Sandisk, class 4, 32 GB). Everything seems to work fine.
However, my Nook HD+ never boots from SDcard.
I also tried the stock root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613, but nothing happens.
It still doesn't boot into CMW mode.
PLEASE HELP!! (
I personally do not like using WinImage. I like win32diskimager. And you need to use an external USB card reader rather than any built into your PC. And run the program in administrator mode and close all other windows apps. It sometimes is very difficult to get the SD burned so that it will boot in the Nook.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will change from WinImage to Win32Diskimager and I will also close all other programs while writing the image. I will tell you today whether it works or not.

It took me a few days as well but I was successful today. The problem I was having was with an SDHC card that did not want to cooperate. What brand, size and class is the card you are using? Which method are you using to get CM10 running?
I used leapinlars Easy Install guide and tools for the original SD. I did not Root my device. I saved the Gaaps and CM10 images to the internal memory of the HD+. I used CWM that was part of the image that Leapinlars linked to in the guide to install them from there.

I am using Sandisk Class 4 32GB to operate. The first method I was trying was Original SD method, but it wasn't successful as my nook hd+ didn't boot into CMW mode. So, I wrote another image (Hybride SD) into my card, still didn't work though.
I also tried using Kingston class 4- 4GB, but the nook still failed to boot from SD. (
I have this problem all the time with my card, its such a pain in the ass. it eventually will boot into cwm, but sometimes i have to pop the sdcard in and 9 or 10 times booting into normal before eventually it clicks right and boots cwm properly. I have no idea why because the card is recognized when the system boots up to normal mode, but for some reason it just skips cwm 95% of the time.
My new device does this a lot. It is very hard to get it to boot from powered off (cold boot) at all with the card inserted. I have to remove the SD to even get it to turn on. Then I can get it to boot to stock. I have stock rooted so I installed Quick Boot and I tell it to reboot after I insert the SD. Since it is then performing a warm boot, it works. I do not have this issue with my old device.

What do you mean by 'I have to remove the SD to even get it to turn on. Then I can get it to boot to stock.'? So, I have to remove the card, turn it on, and then put the card back while the nook is power on?.

Yes. But if yours boots to stock anyway, you don't have to do that. Just boot to stock and use quick boot to do a warm reboot.

For those having troubles booting into CM10 at the first try - booting into stock and restarting with Quick Boot should work every time, regardless of the SD card. Not ideal, but at least consistent.

You can't.
Edit: The only other thing to try is to get ADB working on stock and go to advanced shell and issue the commanr reboot. Then it should warm boot to CWM. - nah, you have to be rooted for that to work too.

You need to get my stock CWM to boot at least once so you can flash root and play store. Then you can use quick boot to warm boot to CM10.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10 on Hybrid SD
I think I didn't flash root yet because I follow the Hybrid method from your instruction.
My nook hd+ went into CMW mode once, so I flash CM10, hybrid converter, and gapps.
I have already set Google Play store and downloaded some apps from it including Quick Boot.
At first try, I rebooted it from Quick Boot and it started with CM10. Then, I tried power off from Quick Boot and I instantly turned it on, it still turned on in CM10 mode.
The last time I customized something, I power it off from the nook button, and now when I turned it on it went into Nook mode. I turned of and on several times last night and it was still in Nook mode.
Then, I powered it on with power adapter plugged in (I owned Nook Tablet and knew that sometimes we need to plug in to get it booted into CM7); however, it doesn' t work for nook hd+. I got upset last night and decided to go to sleep. Before sleep I charged my nook with power adapter. My nook last night was still in nook mode while charging.
Surprisingly, I woke up this morning and saw that my nook was in CM10 mode.
Any idea why it is like this? I don't dare to power it off again.
If you can get to the Hybrid CWM, you can flash my root and gapps zips with that and they will get installed to stock because they are hard coded to do that. Then you can boot to stock and install quick boot and use that to warm boot to CM10.

Some devices just do not boot to SD well from a cold start. That is why I said to root stock and install Quick Boot since most devices will boot to SD from a warm start.
And to get to CWM from a warm start, once the cyanoboot logo comes on, hold the power and n key together for a few seconds and release (not too long or it will power off again). CWM should boot.

leapinlar: Ask the question on the forum. I don't like using PMs.
Recently the update allowing google play store somehow bypassed the anti-update thing on my nook, so now I can use play store on the nook home, but the update removed my root but kept the android system home.. It uses a lot of ram, which i'd rather have free to play games or other resource heavy apps on.
I know I have to get my nook to start unsuccessfully 8 times, but I don't know how I go about doing that, can I get some help?

If you want to do it the easy way, just interrupt the boot by turning it completely off (hold power button for a few seconds) while booting eight times in a row. It will take you back to some version of stock, usually 2.0.0 or 2.0.4 then upgrade again to 2.1.0 when you register again.

After my HD+ locked up when I created a "Guest" ("child") profile and I had to do the 8-reboot process, after upgrading to B&N v2.1.0, I experimented with alternate button combinations at power-on. If I held the "n" button when pressing "power", I got a prompt that allowed me to do a factory reset.
Whether that is part of a later B&N recovery module, I can't say.

That factory reset just wipes data, it does not reinstall the ROM. He probably needs to reinstall the ROM since some of the broken symlinks may still be in /system.
Power + n takes you to stock recovery, which, without other parameters being passed to it, asks if you want to factory reset.

Thanks for the help!
I'd like to return my Nook HD+ to stock, too. It has a Cyanogen mod that precedes that startup, and I think that's getting in the way of the 'eight reset' mechanism for a total factory reset to stock software.
Is there a bootloader, system, and gapps zip that I could just flash from an external SD card that would do the job? Seems like there was, at one time, but it's getting very difficult to find them. Any ideas for a quick factory reset (not a wipe, but a complete reset to original OS?).

Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and flash the plain stock zip from item 6 there and follow that with a factory reset by CWM.
And it was not the cyanoboot that prevents the 8 reset, it is because when you originally installed CM you also replaced the stock recovery on internal memory with CWM. Stock recovery is needed for the 8 reset to work.

Hi there,
I have a device that is also candidate for unrooting to stock. The thing is that I have tried both CWM and TWRP on bootable SD to try and fix the situation tith the apropriate zips but unfortunately none of them can mount sd ot any internal memory for me to reset.
Maybe I should also add that the device is charging without turning on except if there is a proper bootable sd inserted.
I presume a rescue bootable SD of OEM type could bring the device back to life.
I`ll apreciate any help.

Maybe Bricked is the situation. The device is charging (the green light is present when plugged to the charger or USB ) but the power button can no longer start any visible boot process on the screen.
The story of the device is nearly the following:
I was using the device for a long time rooted with installed CM updating even with over night builds from time to time.
Once I had a problem booting properly after update but easily booted to TWRP and restored the previouse update.
A week ago the same situation occured, after an update procedure I left the device plugged to the wall charger and on the morning it was stuck on the CYANOGEN universal boot logo. No way found to boot to recovery found.
I figured the recovery has gone bad. Started to prepare bootable SD to try and fox the mess somehow, but could not do the corect procedure of preparing a good bootable SD many times. The only time I successfuly booted CWM recovery from SD I tried to install a zip with CWM recovery and as far as I remember at that time the bootable recovery was able to mount another SD wile it was booted on the device and the zip installed with success according to the software. Sadly after a restart the device was as is, stuck on the bootloader logo.
After 2-3 times successfuly booting both CWM and TWRP recoveries from prepared SD card, doing nothing at all that can alter the device, just tried to see how to mount any usable memory, the device stopped visualy booting without an SD.
Thank you for the reply, hope you can add some wisdome to the happy end

It sounds like it is bricked. If recovery said it installed successfully and it still will not boot normally, it is usually what that means. By bricking, I mean internal memory has become read only and nothing can successfully be written to it even if it said it was successful. Your probable only option is to use a noemmc version of SD CM. Search the dev forum for that term.

Hello. As per instructed, I have search the threads, but haven't found anything like the problem I'm facing. Most can get to recovery or hand on the cyanogen loading. As such I am posting this query to see if anyone can help me.
I have been using Cyanogen 10.1 emmc on my new B&N HD+ tablet for about a week now, installed by following the guide found here. I made sure to make back up at every step; before flashing Cyrogen, and after. Anyways Yesterday, the tablet refuses to boot. I can press the power button, the Nook hd+ and connect it using usb, but the screen remains blank (black). It never gets to the nook screen or the cyanogen loading screen. I have tried to restore a backup, but no matter what I do, I can't get the nook to boot into recovery mode. I have tried 3 different boot sd, but none bring up the loader, not even the one that work when I first installed Cyanogen.
I have drained the battery completely and recharge it about 2 times now and I have held down the N + Power methods. I installed TWRP as a replacement over stock recovery mode. Any help would be appreciated.

Kind of out of my league, but search this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500 for twrp. Reports of problems with backup/restore using twrp. Maybe try a bootable cwm card
so i understand im a complete noob without a post or anything
but i made an account just so i can possibly get help because im in way over my head..
i rooted my nook hd plus with cwm recovery and for about a week everything was working perfect then the other day i downloaded an app from the play store (directv app) and boom it reboots and wont reboot fully it gets stuck on the recovery page the spinning wheel with the logo
i ened up trying to restore it back to the stock non rooted nook but it WONT MOUNT DATA or EMMC
im so worried i really messed it up
im not worried about losing info cuz ive used titanium back up
so what do i do?! lol
Just to make sure I understand what you did, when you say rooted with CWM, do you mean you rooted stock with my universal root zip, or do you mean you installed a version of CM to replace stock. When you say spinning logo, that sounds like CM.
