HTC One - Speakers turns on automatically when outside - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a storage problem with my HTC One.
Sometimes when I am on a call the speaker turns on automatically. I noticed that this happens when I am outside, or for example when I am talking and I get outside the building to open space.
Can this be causes by loud noise? I am not aware of any setting that I can change for this. Does the phone has a build-in feature to switch the call the speakers automatically when there is a big noise around?
My phone specs:
• S-off
• ROM: Android Revolution HD 13.2
• Kernel: Stock
• Firmware: 2.24.401.8
• Radio: 4A.17.3250.14

No idea?

I am running ARHD 31.6 now and latest firmware, the issue is not appearing anymore.

You sure your not pressing this with your ear on the touchscreen as I thought this was my problem.
After using the phone for 5-6 months I think its pretty flawed and wish I'd just kept my old phone and paid £10/month or bought a nexus 4

ARHD 13.2? That is pretty old, maybe try the latest version and make sure the light capturing sensor is working, by calling someone and using your hand over it and see if the screen goes black, otherwise your ear maybe touching the speakerphone option.
Good luck.

HTC desire c stuck in landscape

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this. I have the desire c (branded to 3 and rooted) it has worked great for awhile but recently the screen keeps going into landscape and getting stuck there (even when holding it up right) I've tried turning auto rotate off but it still happens usually a restart fixes it for awhile but then it starts again. I found a app on the market that can force it back into portrait but then I can't make some apps full screen like YouTube. I've tried a factory reset a few times both through settings and by pushing power and volume up but not long after it starts happening again.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks.

Maybe you should backup your current rom, and then install a custom one maybe some files relating to the sensors could be corrupt.
Thanks i may try using a generic rom to see if it fixes it. What's the best way to back up my current rom? Gonna need to go back to it if I have to sent it off to get fixed.

Well I tried nameless Rom but it didn't fix it so looks like I'm gonna have to send my phone off for repair

Try calibrating your sensors.
Sent from my Texus 4 toaster
Thanks I tried that but no luck the odd thing is the sensor seems to work cause I can play that game where you control the ball with the sensor. But its started doing other stuff now like it keeps turning the screen on on its own and putting phone on loud speaker and pausing music etc.
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
Weird... The game works, but the accelorometer doesn't work at other places
Sent from my Texus 4 toaster
My wife's Desire C has the same problem. Stuck in landscape most of the time. Screen turning on, phonecalls sometimes suddently go to speaker. Sensors are working fine if you ask me.
I was trying to root it when I read this topic, I still might try a custom rom though.
Glad I'm not the only one who had this problem. Maybe there's a fault with some of the handsets or something.
I gave up and sent mine off for repair now.

Heyyy!!! Did u find any solution for your problem. My phone is also starting to behave in the same way....
I think I found the solution. It seems like the problem is with HTC's ROM based on ICS 4.0 and 4.0.4. I tried just about any ROM based on ICS (stock and custom) with any kernel combination and the problem repeats itself.
Flashed CM 10.1 and the problem is gone.

[Q] Audio dropping volume?

I'm having this issue where the volume drops during song changes, or during quiet parts in a video. I'm fairly certain this is a known problem, but just wondering if anyone has found a fix.
I've tried different music players, different video players, different headphones, even a headphone amp and the problem persists. currently running P.A.C v3.0 but the problem was present also on TrickDroid v7.5

I think this happens in all phones, ipods, iphones and music players as what outputs high volume comes from audio file from the song or movie. There are programs in the internet the makes the audio files louder in a song or a movie. The problem is not the phone or roms. As any phone, it can't output high volume if the volume level in the audio file in a song isn't put to high levels of volume.
I agree with the op. I've got both the HTC One and the N4. The problem he's describing is present in the one but not the N4, same exact audio sources.

Maybe but I have experienced the same thing on all devices I have used for music. I think it depends on the songs but I might be wrong.
I can also confirm that this issue has been persistent on my One. Something that had never happened to my One XL, Nexus nor Desire. Not liking this at all!
Sent from my HTC One
I've never had it happen on anything except my One. On the stock ROM, it's fine, but any AOSP ROM (and I've flashed a lot of them) gives me this issue anytime I use headphones.
I can confirm this as well. Stock ROM seems OK but AOSP and cm based ROM have this problem

I think HTC made the phone to lower the volume when the volume is way too high so you won't go deaf. An annoying "feature" that HTC has implemented in the phone.
Just an update on this. the CM nightly for today (6/20) contains a bunch of audio merges which hopefully will fix the audio fading issue. I'll report back when its available for download and I flash it

Just tried out the 6/21 nightly, and the audio fading issue is unfortunately still there.

Help audio volume drops
I am currently using the Avatar rom and have been experiencing the exact same problem. The volume will go down in music, audio books, and even on the phone. The problem is not consistent and has been driving me crazy ever since I installed this rom. I love the ROM and can't picture living without it. I can't figure out what exactly it is causing the issue, but if anybody has found a solution, I would love to hear it. Thanks in advance.
Has anyone tried flashing beats back onto their phone to see if that does anything?
Update- installed beats audio. It unfortunately didn't fix the problem.

Try updating your firmware to 2.24 and turn off Beats. This solved it. Although now I use higher volume to match what I had before with Beats turned on, the sound quality and bass is nearly equal or even better.

OK, so I'm pretty new to this whole thing. What would the steps be to upgrade my firmware to 2.24?

[Q]HTC One 4.2.2 GE and 3 Dots

I've recently switched from an iPhone to a HTC One so all this android business is new to me.
I rooted my phone and installed the stock 4.2.2 Google Edition ROM, but 1 thing is annoying me and that's the 3 dots menu, when playing games it really bugs me.
Now, I know there's a way of removing the 3dots, but is there a way of enabling hold home for menu? 4.2.1 has the option in Display.
I tried installing HTCLogoMenu but it stops my phone from booting, so I guess it's incompatible.
Is there any solution? I really prefer the GE over the HTC ROM with Sense.
Thanks.

Plenty of GE based custom roms that have mods to remove the 3 dot menu button and remap the function to HTC logo. Or download and flash custom kernels like Bulletproof or Elemental X which accomplish the same thing.

Bulletproof worked great! Thank you.
Another question, is it possible to remove the black lines on each side when using MHL? It's distracting when watching movies.

I tried changing the aspect ratio of my TV but it made zero difference.

Make speakers louder

I've looked all over for a solution to make the speakers louder on 4.2.2 but no luck . When I got the phone it seamed loud but now I can't hear people when making calls in the car. I've tried beats off all different volumes and all the crap apps but still it's no louder than my note. I've read that HTC have lowered the volumes on 4.2.2 is there any way to get the volume back and make the speakers louder. Please don't respond by saying your phone is loud enough as mine isn't!!
Thanks
There is a zip to make it really loud again.

Both are correct. HTC has lowered the volume repeatedly in their upgraded firmwares. The man who said his is still loud is most likely still running old >1.26 FW.
Now, as of a way to raise these volumes im not quite sure how to do this through file editing (Maybe the zip in post #2 or #3 works, idk, if your in dire need, nandroid and flash it) BUT if youre up to flashing a kernel (assuming youre running 4.2.2 and are on sense) you can flash Tbaldens Performance Kernel (in Orig. Android Dev. section) and that will give you options to boost volumes on multiple fronts. I can confirm this works myself, as i use this feature actively and dont experience any crackling or popping. If you decide to download this kernel, youll need Trickstermod Kernel Control app from the Play Store to edit the values.
(Lol, seems like alot but i promise its not. Plus you get extra sweet features like USB Fastcharge, and Overclocking and all that jazz with the kernel. Its worth it)

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue or software. I see this issue is huge on allot of HTC phones.
I did do a factory reset then i recalibrated sensor. Seemed to slow it down now it only turns speaker phone on once in a while instead of every time.

I have this issue also. Completely Stock. Started after the 4.4 KitKat OTA from Sprint. Sometimes it seems the mute button will activate as well, but 1 out of ~15 calls it mainly goes on speakerphone, completely random for me.
It's a problem with the KitKat update. There are several threads on this. Even other phones seem to have it. No solution so far

Downgrading back seemed to work for a little while but it's still doing it and I'm not even on KK.
This is a verified issue with audio code in versions of Chrome from Feb 28 on.
Phone will function normally until Chrome is run and vice versa.
Reboot phone - make/accept call, all is well.
Run Chrome - make/accept call, lol speakerphone.
And on phones with separate media and earpiece speakers...
Reboot phone - visit website with audio, plays from main speaker normally.
Make/accept phone call - return to Chrome and try a site with audio, lol...plays from earpiece.
Workaround for now is to revert to Chrome from BEFORE 2/28 update and disable automatic updating.

I suppose one easy way would be to just grab it from the SVN trunk of a ROM that hasn't updated the app since before the update...InsertCoin for example includes a chrome apk under /data/app that was pushed to svn on 2/26
You don't need to install svn or anything, just browse to the appropriate folder, click the desired file, and use the "view raw file" link to download the individual item.

It seems that today's Chrome update (v33.0.1750.166) fixes the issue. Here's a link to the actual fix revision.
Edit: I got the update from the Play Store in case that was unclear.
So I tried installing the chrome update, did not fix it, it turns out the modaco toolkit update fixed it
