[Q] Deleted SD card folder - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently deleted my sdcard folder on my kindle fire hd. I cannot boot into recovery, and I was wondering is there anyway I can add the sdcard folder back with the necessary folders?

[Q] Deleted sd folder!

I have a Samsung Captivate and I accidentally deleted the sd (at least that is what i think it was called) folder. How do I get it back? If I just create a new folder that says 'sd' will it still save things onto my internal sd card?
my /sd/ folder is empty at least looking at it from the OI file manager on the phone
I think mine was as well but I want to put music on my phone and i want it to go on the internal sd. I tried seeing if the files would go directly on the sd so i put a few music files in a folder i created but when i checked my task manager the internal memory storage changed, not the internal sd storage.

It depends what OS you are running.
2.1 used /sdcard for internal and /sdcard/sd for external
2.2 moved these directories under /mnt but left the old directories empty

Does anybody know what to do if the sd folder is deleted?
I noticed I had an 'sd' folder and an 'external_sd' folder. The sd folder was blank, so I deleted it after I viewed it on my pc - there was nothing in it. It didn't seem to be needed. But now I can't view certain files on my phone only. I can view them on my laptop via USB connection using Windows Explorer.
To attempt to find this folder on my phone, that I CAN see on my laptop using Windows Explorer, I created a txt file in that folder (that I can't find on my phone), naming it 'sdmissing.txt'. I searched everywhere on my phone, even from root directory, trying to find this file and couldn't. Yet after connecting to my laptop via USB, I can see it. What can I do??
Thanks in advance for any help!

backup important data and apps with tibu or any other apps in the market and perform factory reset with your phone it should bring you back to where you are.

Turn off and on ur phone to see if it works for you or not. I found that sd is a hidden folder and its blank. When I flash custom roms, I do it without going to stock. But, I do delete Android, data, sd and some other folders, that I know will be automatically created after the reboot/flash. When I go to cwm recovery to install rom from zip, I do see the Android folder and sd folder showing up there. Don't panic. Just do normal shutdown and restart. If that doesn't fix, reflash the custom rom if you are using one.

What to keep after rom upgrade?

Hi everyone.
I have a Google G1 and have recently upgraded to Cyanogen 6.0.0.
After the upgrade there are a lot of files left on the SD card and I would like to know which I need to keep and which I can get rid of?
The files are;
Android folder which contains another folder called data, which contains the following files; com.coolaris.media and com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget.news-content-cache
other folders are;
Clockworkmod
.android_secure
and in the download folder there are lots of .apk files all are downloadfile.apk from 1 to 14.
Do I need to keep any of these files on my sd card or can they be deleted after the installation?
Thank you for any help.

I would just keep all of that on your SD card, since it doesn't take up that much space to begin with.
However, I had a bunch of those downloadfile.apk's in my download folder, I deleted all of them, and everything was okay. You can probably delete all of those and not have a problem.
Thank you very much for the help mattdrumz, very kind.

[CLOSED] - Most of storage gone after flashing

Hi guys!
A few hours ago, I flashed a custom rom, but now most of my storage is "gone".
Before flashing, I had like 16GB (of 26GB) free, even with some movies/pictures on it.
But after flashing, I only have 7GB left and I didn't put any movies/big files on it.
I coudn't find the place that takes up most of my storage via normal apps.
How can I find this and delete the uncessary files?
Matt

Probable because all your files were copied to data/media/0
This is your new SD card so you can delete whatever you don't need

Awesome, thanks for the advice.
But why are my files copied? I did a complete wipe before flashing?

You probably wiped system (your ROM) and factory reset - this doesn't wipe 'data/media/', which is where your content is, such as music, movies, etc. It's basically because 4.2.2 has multiple user support. You have one storage directory (your sdcard) but there are different paths that are symlinked to that directory..

Oww, like that. So you have to delete those files (data/media) manually after flashing?

Well, if you want to keep them (your old files) just move them into the data/media/0 folder. If you have CWM backups, leave the 'clockworkmod' folder in data/media/.
The way to do it from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 was backup your content to PC, format your system and sdcard in recovery (this would wipe everything), then adb push or sideload your 4.2.2 rom and then transfer your content back to the phone from your PC.

Nook HD 10.2.1 Can't access external SD

Hello,
It's my first post here.
I have a Nook HD rooted with 10.2.1. We I rooted the Nook, I made an external copy to the PC of the stock rom.
All was OK, until I tried to upgrade to cmw 11.
It gave me an Status 7 error and was imposible to upgrade.
Then I went back to the 10.2.1, but now the external SD Card is not mounted. I can't format it from the Recovery menu.
I can't read it from the Nook. I tried 3 different SD cards, but always the same.
The recovery CMW is 6.0.3.6.
When I try to format the SD card from it, it says "Error mounting /external_SD!"
When I enter the Nook in normal mode, the SD Card can not be activated. It detects the SD Card, bau can't do anything.
¿Any idea or help?
Thx!!
UPDATE: I have boot into normal mode, downloaded de Recovery CWM-5 (Recovery 6.0.4.6), and installed it from the internal memory.
After that, I succeeded on installing the CM11-M6, but still the same issue.
Can't activate/access/mount/format the SD Card, from the Android "Activate card" or from the recovery menu "Format" or "mount".
I also formatted it with SDFormatter, but nothing changes.
The SD card it's ok, as I can write/read from the PC.
I have 3 of them: Samsung, Sandisk and Trascend. None of them is recognized, and before I had no problems with them and CM 10.1
Well,
I think is finished!
I had a problem with Google apps, and installed them again, but I had at the internal memory the 4.3 GApps, and I didn't take care of the version!.
Instead of the correct GApps for the 4.4, I installed the previous one.
After installing them, I always have now "unfortunately, Android Keyboard (Aosp) Has Stopped"
So I have no keyboard!!!!
As I can't use the external SD (It doesn't work), I tried to download from the CM11 Nook the correct GApps version, but I have not keyboard to write the internet address!!! I can not indeed write the wifi password!
I have then tried to install ADB, but I can not see the Nook under "adb devices".
I'm in the point of sending the nook to the recycled bin!
Any idea of an easy solution?
Many thanks!
Dang lots of trouble. I would suggest just sticking with CM 10.2.1 for now.

Hello,
That's what I want, to go back to 10.2.1.
But the Recovery 6.0.4.6 dos not permit to install the 10.2.1, only 11.
I would like to download to the internal memory the Recovery 4 (6.0.3.6), but as I don't have keyboard (wrong GApps installed), can't write the web address. And the external SD card doesn't work too.
The only solution I see is ADB, but when I plug the Nook HD to the PC, nothing happens. There is no change in the Management console of Administration Devices....
Don't know really what to do.!

Did you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item 1a there? If you did, what are the results?
Sent from my BN NookHD+ using XDA Premium HD app
Thank you for your response.
I did what you said, making a bootable CWM as your 1a tip, but nothing happens.
The external SD card is like death.
The Nook boots on the normal CM11 mode, and never on the Card Boot mode.
But I have made some new advancement:
I realized that I can connect the Nook and the computer through Bluetooth!
So I sent to the Nook the correct GApps for the CM11, and reboot in recovery mode, installed it from the internal memory, and now I have keyboard again.
The situation now: I have the CM11-M6 installed, Recovery 6.0.4.6 and GApps gapps-kk-20140105.
But, the external SD card doesn't work. The Nook detects it, but can not activate it.
If I enter the Recovery mode, you can´t mount or format the SD card.
I have saved at the PC the Nook Stock Backup I made before rooting the Nook.
If I copy that folder to the internal memory and make a Restore BackUp, do you think that the SD card problem should be fixed?
May be the SD card problem is related to the Nook partitions. I read something about that but don't remember where. But don't really now if the Restore Stock is going to fix the partitions.
I don't want to make another step without consulting you!
Thanks!

I doubt it is a partition problem causing the SD read issue. But getting back to stock may help. It could just be a glitch with CM11. You might also try cleaning the SD contacts and blowing out the slot with air.

Thanks again.
I tried three different cards from 3 brands. They all work perfectly at the computer, but not on the Nook!
I've not tried to blow air in the slot... i'll do it
I think, if that doesn't work, i'll try to go to the Stock Backup.
Thx
How can I restore the saved backup?
I have copied the backup folder yo the internal memory. After I boot into recovery. I choose Restore, but directly it says that there is no file.
Is there any special way of restoring the stock backup without using the sd card?

Yes it has to be put in a special place for CWM to see it. CM and CWM use different spots for the backups. CM uses /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup and CWM uses /data/media/clockworkmod/backup. Notice the extra 0 folder. You will have to use your root file manager to be able to put the backup in the correct location so CWM can find it.

I have no success!
As I'm using CWM, I have to place the files at /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/.
I have some questions (I've tried all possibilities, but without success)
1. I have a saved backup folder (named with the date I made the backup) with .tar archives, etc. Do I have to place at the clockworkmod/backup the .tar files directly or the backup saved folder?
2. I can't find the /data/media/clockworkmod/backup folder.
I have a clockworkmod folder at /storage/sdcard0/clockworkmod. It seems to be the same as /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod.
That clockworkmod folder is at the sdcard folder, with other folder as Alarms, Android, DCIM, etc...
At the folder level where are folders like bootdata, cache, mnt, root, etc, there is a folder named "data", but is empty, and can't write inside it.
Is it that one where I have to place /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/??
3. Can't find a folder called "media".
4. I have installed your file NookHD-CWM-6036-for-internal-memory-rev2-(03-08-14).zip as Recovery.
But I have read at your tips, that for restoring the Stock, you have to use NookHD-emmc-stock-recovery-rev0-(07.21.13). I have done nothing with that file... Is for your information, in case I'm doing something wrong.
5. As information also, when I enter the Recovery mode (6.0.3.6), there is always a message "Warning: No file_contexts".
6. Another thing!! I think that the Backup I'm trying to Restore was made with a previous CWM... that one for the CM10.1 (may be it was CWM-Recovery-2).
Could it be the problem?
Thanks again!

In order to access the /data folder you have to be using a root file manager (try root browser lite from Play Store). That is why /data looks empty without one.
Do not use the clockwork folder in /sdcard. It must be the one in /data/media.
That stock recovery zip is for restoring stock recovery. You only flash that if you want internal CWM replaced with stock recovery.
And under backup should be the folder that was created when you backed up. Usually a date. The .tar files are inside that.
Don't worry about the last two items.

Wow, I'm sooooo noob!!
I had already installed ES3 file explorer, and didn't find the Root User mode. Now it's activated and really can see the data/media folder.
I'm moving now the backup folder to the media folder and in some minutes I post the results (I see that It's very slow and the backup is 2gb size, and will take at least 30minutes to transfer)
Many thanks!!!
Welllll....:crying::crying::crying::crying:
I have successfully restored the Nook to the Stock Rom.
But the problem with the SD Card persists.
I bought a new SD Card, and now I have 4 different brands and sizes cards.
And with all of them I have the same issue: Damaged card. You have to format it. And after formatting, always "Damaged card"...
:crying::crying::crying:
I think is a hardware problem. Something is broken...
Thank you anyway for your help!!!

[Q] Can't Move Files

Hey all,
Yesterday I began having a weird problem. I tried to move an mp3 from a computer to my phone, and it kept failing. I didn't think much of it.
Today, I downloaded a picture from Google Images and tried to move it from my Download folder to my Pictures folder on the internal memory. It failed when I tried to move it, copy it, anything.
Now I noticed that anything I try and change, file-wise, will fail. No matter what ROM.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Restart you computer?
Can you create new files in the DCIM folder using a file manager? What about otehr folders or just root of /sdcard?
If you've ever put files back on /sdcard using Recovery (adb OR MTP) then usuaslly you'll find that the permissions of the card are screwed. I can point you to a flashable zip if that is the case. DO NOT fix permissions using the recovery option
