ABD/Fastboot setup windows 8 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does ADB and fastboot install automatically with the HTC drivers or must it still be downloaded separately and installed? I have the adb file and trying to obtain s-off (using moonshine) but having issues doing so. I tried following a guide online however I believe it was written with windows 7 in mind.
My goal is to root and install the Google Edition 4.3 android then flash a custom kernel. Any guides would be great. My last phone was an HTC evo 4g LTE and it's been a new laptop and new version of windows ago since I went through the process. I'm completely behind playing catch up.
Thanks!

This is the website I used: http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...wrp-root-google-play-edition-htc-one-0148146/
A couple things to note (from my experience following this tutorial):
-The first time I fastboot flashed TWRP, it didn't stick. I had to do it again, and then it stuck.
-When I rebooted to system from TWRP and let it root me using the SuperSU installer, that didn't work using Google Play or the TWRP option, probably because I was on 4.3. You have to manually flash the supersu zip file in TWRP from the thread on XDA.
Hope that helps!
EDIT: regarding you driver situation, I'm on Windows 8 and all I had to do was plug it in and it downloaded the necessary drivers automatically. I believe I have HTC Sync Manager installed, but it's not running, and wasn't running when I was going through that tutorial.
EDIT 2: Looks like I read your post wrong,.. I thought you had the GPe. Nonetheless, that tutorial may help you.

I don't think ADB or Fastboot are pre-installed nor are they packaged with sync manager. You have to download them either as part of the SDK or from XDA. Personally, I download the whole package as it's far easier to keep updated.

Thanks for the link I'll try that out. I tried the method he linked to at the beginning of his post but he tells you to edit the user "path" which I don't have under windows 8.
Thanks a bunch I'll post an update!

Let us know if it works! Since that tutorial is for the GPe, unlocking the bootloader for your Sense version is a little different. But once you achieve an unlocked bootloader, I believe the rest of his tutorial is the same for both devices.

hey i tryed a lot of Guides but still doesnt work. Dont know why...
On windows 7 its no ptoblem but on windows 8..gosh... driver signature --> off diferent drivers from different guides everything...
New Windows 8 installation ---> Nope
I have to use the pc from my parents to flash xD very annoying

Running 4.2.2 rooted thanks to goolge nexus toolkit!!

For those who want a stock rooted nexus 7 you can find the full 4.2.2 image here,
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
You can find the nakasi image 4.2.2 and download the tar image.
Then I would download and install the google nexus 7 toolkit here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1809195
Then install the sdk manager and update.
http://developer.android.com/tools/h...k-manager.html
Once all is installed then in the toolkit make sure you install the android usb drivers. I would then reboot your pc.
Then take the factory tar image and move it into a folder called "put factory image here" in the nexus 7 toolkit program files.
Then follow directions to flash it. You can then after it is flashed follow directions to root it.
Now you have a stock rooted version of 4.2.2. That is what I did and it worked for me. I am no expert by any means. I hope this helps.
I used the Google nexus toolkit from skipsoft and I am very grateful to the developer for this software. It made my efforts easy to get a stock rooted updated rom. I hope anyone else who is not a technical expert like me can use the instructions provided and find them useful.

My wife accepted the update yesterday while I was at work . Ive used this toolkit before, but thats when all the version numbers lined up and without having to download anything.

Yes just use it as you normally would even with the wrong version for the device. It still works and will install fine. At least it did for me.
Good luck.
LOL this is too long. Just flash SuperSU zip on unrooted stock.
I have my N7 (GSM version) unlocked, rooted and with clockworkmod recovery.
I donwloaded and installed the OTA (beforehand I had supersu and clockworkmode in "Survival" mode ... When I told the OTA to install, my device rebooted and clockwork recovery took the update zip... after some questions "do you want to keep your bootloader", "do you want to keep recovery", "do you want to keep root" (I only kept recovery and root) everything worked fine.
Now I'm on 4.2.2 with unlocked bootloader, clockworkmod recovery and root whitout any problem or anything deleted.
Cheers!

No need to use this toolkit at all really, I did it all manually yesterday. I just flashed the new image and then flashed supersu

He has everything but instructions. How can I apply DIrtycow to my Blu r1 hd V7.4.2 Does anyone have instructions on how to do this?
The instructions are there in the readme file. https://github.com/mrmazakblu/DirtyCow-R1_HD is the webpage. If you go to the desktop version of the page you can click the "clone or download" button to download the zip file. If I recall correctly I just downloaded that, adb, fastboot and got the computer to recognize the phone and ran the one-click-root file. I was having trouble getting my laptop to recognize the phone and some other issues so I don't remember exactly what steps I did. Hope I've been some kind of help and remember, I'm not responsible for anything you do to your own property

I was able to run the one click root script from the site but all it got me was a slick, shiny version of V7.42. minus all of my apps of course. I ran the one click script twice to be sure both times all I got was a new version of 7.4.2. No root or anything else. Mine is the 8 meg version I wonder if that makes a difference?

(Must have adb and fastboot setup and have phone drivers for either OS)
On Windows?
Unzip the downloaded file to a new folder, open new
folder and click on "dirty-cow-log.bat".
Do the steps in order (1-3-3-4) to be unlocked, then
Step (5) to get to second page where step (1) is root
The rest is optional
On Linux?
Unzip downloaded file to new folder folder .
Open folder. Then open R1-Linux-tool-v2 folder
Open terminal from that folder and type
" . R1-HD-TOOL.sh "
Same order of steps (1,2,3,4) step (5) for extra
Steps (1 on second menu) for superSU root.
Second menu steps (2,3,4,5,6,7,8) are optional.
Also there is now new thread for the "tool"

Teclast x80 pro root + android only (remove windows)

not sure if this belongs here, but couldn't find a teclast x80 pro section
I was looking to make this tab android only and then root it
found on the internet different sources for each procedure, so decided to compile everything in one place with full credits
teclast x80 pro [root + keep android only for 25gb storage]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[for 25gb of storage and android only]
first get the tools: https://www.mediafire.com/?qxwxz1mz47g7mkv
install PhoneFlashTool, iSocUSB-Driver-Setup-1.2.0, IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.5.0
then you need to check what firmware your tab is on, it's written on the back of the tablet
mine was on E3E9 however teclast site didn't have the firmware so I used the e3e8 instead and it works fine
download the firmware from http://www.teclast.com/en/firmware/
you need to get the android.rar
when it's done, unpack the android.rar
then unpack the gpt.rar
take the gpt.bin and copy-paste it in the android folder, replacing the original gpt.bin
put tablet in dnx mode, press volume +, volume - and power at the same time
connect tab to pc with usb cable
run the phone flash tool browse for the android folder and flash the android image
after it is done you have 25gb all for android
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[for root access]
you must have adb drivers installed for this to work
copy+paste the UPDATE-SuperSU.zip to the tablet
with the tab switched on normally and connected to pc with usb cable go to settings>developer options and check "oem unlocking" and "usb debugging"
then go to the toolbox folder and double-click 1.Unlock_Bootloader.bat
wait for it to do the work, then reboot and again go to settings>developer options and check "oem unlocking" and "usb debugging"
then double-click 2.Unlock_Verity-boot.bat, reboot and repeat oem and debug settings
then double click 3 Flash-boot.bat , reboot and repeat oem and debug settings
steps 4 and 5 from the toolbox folder didn't work for me, if it works for you after double-click all good
if it doesn't: shift+right click the toolbox folder with tab connected to pc and "open command window here"
copy and paste this in the command window:
adb reboot fastboot
"press enter"
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-X80-pro.img
"press enter"
adb reboot recovery
"press enter"
from the twrp menu, select install and browse for the UPDATE-SuperSU.zip you copy+pasted earlier
reboot and you should have root access + fully working twrp recovery
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

other stuff
this tab gets really hot when gaming by the way
one way to fix this is to get the no frills cpu control from the play store and set the max speed for the processor to
1,2 or 1,3, from 1,92, this gets the heat down to almost normal and won't burn your hand anymore like it used too
now I can play and read in peace

here is WalterNimoy's solution to root on E3E9
thanks for sharing buddy ~
------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is in the boot.img. So, to root the E3E9, you mus essentially follow the tutorial above, but instead of the backup for the E3E8, download the version for the E3E9. You can do it here.
E3E9 Teclast X80 Pro : http://www.teclast.com/tools/pad/pad.php?t=p
Then after, the real solution. You must absolutely use another version of the boot.img. If you use the one in the tutorial with the E3E9, you won't have sound, touchscreen buggy, etc. So use this one instead. It's also v. 1.07. I believe it's was originally made for the X80 Power, but it work perfectly with the X80 Pro E3E9.
boot.img v. 1.07 E3E9 https://yadi.sk/d/78MARiHGtyfdG
Finally, if you have a problem when it's time to root, inthe step 4, enter the command manually. It was the solution to make it work for me.
Here you go! Your X80 Pro E3E9 should be rooted, with everything working. Let me know if it also worked for you!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Houston, we have a problem. First, thank you for your work. Unfortunately, it doesn't go well from here. I have the E3E9 version of the tablet. I also used the firmware for this tablet , and not the E3E8 as you did. The firmware have about 50 %less brightness in the E3E8 firmware than in the E3E9, and is also compiled for a slower cpu. So, after I flash the ROM, all go well. The two first steps for root access also go well. The problem begin at the third step, after I flash the boot.img. The Gsensor stop working, and the sound as well. I succeed to root, but the tablet is not really usable... Do you have any idea? I really want to root, but with these limitations, it is better not to. Thank you.
A couple of notes for anyone attempting this:
1. There's a v1.07 ROM for E3E9 which I dug up from the Chinese website (don't ask me how I did this, I tried to replicate my steps with no success XD). Uploaded the file as-is to my Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/eoo8stw1xxyrif3/
2. In my testing, after rooting, I lost audio and access to SD card. The touch screen would also occasionally stop working. I used the ROM mentioned above, and not the one that the op used, so your mileage may vary.
3. I was extremely unpleased with the performance of the stock ROM, and the phenomenon I experienced after rooting made me look of an alternative solution - which I found in a Russian forum (https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=741990&st=1640#entry55200079). A gem in the form of custom CM12.1 ROM baked for the E3E7 model. Installed it on my tablet and it worked flawlessly! The default language is Russian, but your're prompted to change it on the first installation screen.
I'm using this for a couple of hours now and everything seems to be working extremely well, with no dropped frames or choppy animations I experienced in the stock version.
I'll keep testing and report back if I find any bugs.
Edit 1:
So I noticed just a couple of drawbacks for using the CM Rom:
1. Camera is not working (however, I don't think it's a big deal given its quality anyway)
2. I made sure to backup the "Boot to Windows" apk beforehand, but it won't let me install it. If anyone could grab their apk and upload here, I could try it and report back.
Succède, finally
I succeed to root v1.07, E3E9. Let me know if you want to know how I manage to do this. ?

[DEAD] [TOOL] TWRP (and Magisk) Flasher

This Thread is dead, I have decided to move this thread to here for some reasons, one of the reasons is that my tool should work on ALL devices (except Samsungs).
The TWRP version in this is v3.2.3-22 fajita. The Magisk Version in this is v18.0 (You can update it), this method should work on ALL versions of Oxygen OS that the OnePlus 6T runs on, maybe even works on custom ROMs.
Do NOT delete the folder "Files" (or anything in it) as it contains TWRP, necessary ADB and Fastboot files as well as the Magisk Installer.
IMPORTANT: I am not held responsible for any damage you do to your device. You are required to follow all instructions carefully. If you say that I messed up your device I won't care. If you ask for help, I might help. Enjoy the tool
This is only for Windows PCs
Instructions:
0-Open settings, then scroll down till you see "About Phone" tap it then tap "Android version"
then tap "Build number" a bunch of times till it says "You are now a Developer!" Now exit out of "About Phone" and tap "System" now tap on Developer options and look for "OEM unlocking" enable it then scroll down till you find "USB debugging" enable it too. Now plug your phone into your PC via the cable that OnePlus sent with the phone originally and press "Always Allow" then tap OK then install the ADB Drivers on your PC.
1. Download and install WinRAR: 64bit - 32bit
2. Extract the folder to your C drive directly.
3. Open the Folder "TWRP" then run "Bootloader Unlocker.exe" as Administrator (It formats your phone; deletes all data)
4. Once it is done setup your phone again and repeat step 0 but skip the OEM Unlocking part.
5. Now run "TWRP Flasher.exe" as Administrator (Follow all Instructions in the prompts; if you do not I am not held responsible if you brick your phone).
6. Now you have rooted your phone with Magisk and installed TWRP.
7. The final boss is for last... Press the Thanks button if my tool/s helped even by a little bit.
HELP
Just in case something goes wrong I linked two threads, stock fastboot ROMs and a MSMDownload Tool (If you can't get to Fastboot Mode)

Announcement: THREAD IS DEAD
@_Masked_ The zip file you linked to under "Tool" is password protected (I ran a Brute Force on it, already got to 4 chars long PW. Not going to spend anymore time on this, I just wanted to see what was in the Bat files).
Why is TWRP rehosted and not linking to official (or unofficial) sources?
Why are the stock roms linked under downloads? I can't see anything about them in the instructions.
Why is the MSMdownloadtool listed under downloads? It doesn't seem to have any relevancy to this.

Why is it password protected?
Why is this thread/bundle at all needed? There are plenty of established guides doing a much better job of explaining and instructing one how to do the things you've tried to do in this thread, that doesn't rebundle and rehost files (which from a new account is a tad suspicious).
I created the thread before I went to sleep, today I noticed I forgot to do a bunch of things, a lot of the instructions are in the.cmd file. And I would never steal threads or stuff like that. I used to have a account from 2016 but I forgot the username and lost access to the email (it was hacked). So I created a new account.

@_Masked_ The Bat files are well written. I however agree with @sssarg's last point. You are reinventing the wheel, if it was an Exe that might be different but your commands are the same as what is already in all the Guides/Threads.

I actually wrote it from scratch, I might convert it to a .exe in the future.

v2 is coming out soon.
Thank you for this tool. It is a step in the right direction (more user friendly flashing). I understand that you can flash the device with a custom recovery and root it with just a few single clicks which is very helpful for noobs.
I did not make any modifications to my 6t yet, but will definitely do with your tool in the near future.

Glad to help, if you had the first version of my tool you can get the newer one which has less code and is much easier to use in my opinion.
Did you number your versions? Would be useful if there were more than one.
Also, point 4. is a little bit misunderstandable, because it is just a repetition of point 1-3. You could say "repeat steps 1-3".
The section "Downloads" is not being explained. Nobody knows why u linked the msm tool and the stock roms.

I will add them when I get back home. I am uploading V2 to a site that is trusted more than the anonymous file site.

The twrp flasher doesn't start because you used an unregistered compiler.
Can this be used on T-Mobile?

[Guide] Rooting Nexus 7 (2012) Lollipop [5 Simple Steps]

Every single guide i found went through a little bit too much, in this guide i'll show you how to root your device without installing custom recovery in 5 easy steps. I am going to assume that you already have android platform tools installed on your computer
Downloads
TWRP: Asus Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi | Asus Nexus 7 2012 3G
Latest Magisk from the official github repo
Steps
Boot into the bootloader by holding Power + Vol Down for about 10 secs
Connect your device using a usb cable to your computer
If you see LOCK STATE - UNLOCKED, skip this step, otherwise you need to unlock your bootloader by running this command from your computer. Accept and wait while device resets. *this will wipe your device
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Your bootloader should now be unlocked, running this will give you access to twrp without installing it
Code:
fastboot boot path/to/twrp-recover.img
Now you have two pathways:~
Normal: Use your touch screen to install magisk.zip file you downloaded from github and you're done
Broken Screen/Digitizer: From your computer while twrp is open, type this command. * assuming that you renamed magisk archive to magisk.zip and copied it to your sdcard with adb push
Code:
adb shell twrp install /sdcard/magisk.zip
Going Back

Hi, pushqrdx...
A nice and concise guide, and whilst it's perhaps a little late in the day (the Nexus 7 is, after all, some 7 years old now ~ where does the time go!), I always think that the more of these guides there are, the better.
For example, someone might have just picked up an old Nexus 7 somewhere second hand, and might be looking for such instructions as yours.
I also like the way you've updated the procedure for Magisk. The last time I rooted anything, let alone a Nexus 7, was with Chainfire's SuperSU root package. But of course, root is done via Magisk these days, so yours is a nicely updated guide.
And you've also provided a contingency scenario for a damaged screen/digitizer - not something I've had to deal with myself.
-------------------------
I hope you don't mind me adding a little additional tip for anyone reading this...

Nexus 7 - WiFi and 3G

So, in conclusion then, a straightforward and concise guide that covers all the basics to rooting the Nexus 7 - kudos to you sir for writing it.
Kind Rgrds,
Ged.

Problem with Nexus
I have a Asus Nexus 7 2012 Wi-Fi. I have managed to unlock the bootloader and, using adb, checked the devise is authorised. When I try to run 'flash-all', I get stuck at '<waiting for a device>'.
PS C:\Users\OFFICE PC\Desktop\Nexus 7 KitKat\nakasi-ktu84p> .\fastboot flash-all
< waiting for any device >
I cannot fix this problem so I went to your tutorial, I have downloaded twrp and magisk. Do I run these from CMD?. Also, where is twrp-recover.img?

TWRP has to be in the same folder on the PC as your ADB tools. Then using the command given, you boot into TWRP. You don't install it as per this procedure. Then using the TWRP's 'Install' button, find the Magisk zip and install it(you should have copied/pushed it to the tab before).
EDIT: The 'twrp-recover.img' is the name you give to the TWRP which you downloaded.
Thanks, my mom still uses her 2012 nexus 7, great little tablet, but I updated to whatever the latest droid version and it SUCKS, stopped it in its tracks, jams up and slower than ever, want to get it back on the previous version of droid when it worked 10 times better.

Maybe it would run well on Android Go Edition, as that is designed for devices with 2GB of RAM or less. I'm thinking of trying that with my one but have no idea of how to go about it at the moment. Will have to read the OP here at least 7 times before any of it sinks in!
thank you
