Is there a way to sim unlock without a physical sim card? such as with a code that brings up the unlock window?

Sorry I don't have an answer to that. But I figured I'd mention that after I bought the unlock code on ebay and put in a foreign sim card, there never was a popup window asking for a code. It just was unlocked and I never even entered the code.
From my understanding there is a way for sprint Ones. The method is difficult and was abandoned. Unfortunately we don't know what exactly is need to be done because each carrier model will probably need a different method.

This might be a dumb question, but if you're rooted does it unlock the sim? If not, is it easy to unlock it? Just curious. Thanks

No. These are 2 different things...the sim lock you are talking about is lower level inside the phone and is called a subsidy lock.
It usually only requires a code. You send in your phone IMEI number and the website/provider sends back an unlock code. When you pop in another sim, the phone prompts you for this code.
You can find many unlock services online for 10 to 20 USD.

Can your carrier tell if you've unlocked your phone?

If you have it unlocked by somebody else, no.
I have heard of carriers blacklisting IMEIs that are stolen, etc. But never heard of unlock blocks...
Why would they care?you own the phone and are still a customer...

I wanted to unlock bootloader and therefore checked the root settings. It says that unlock is not allowed. Is that because I bought it over network provider or can I simply ignore it? Is everyone of you able to unlock it?

This has been covered a few times. This means that your carrier has blocked unlocking of the bootloader, so you will NEVER be able to unlock it. There is no way around this.

As far as I read in the net there is a paid way to unlock it. Does anyone know if it is possible to unlock without opening it to activate test point...

Do you know what is Unlock Bootlader? Do you know what is SIM Unlock? They have nothing to do one to each other.
Unlocking Bootlader will not Unlock SIM Carrier. To unlock SIM Carrier you have to pay for it.

Actually I did not say any words of unlocking SIM. Talking about bootloader... there is a tool called SETool2. With that it is possible to unlock phones that aren't unlockable. The phone needs to be put into test point mode connecting some pins on the board.
Just wanted to know is anybody has experiences with that.
Ps. .. And in most cases when unlocking the phone the SIM lock vanishes too

Sim unlock prompts only show up when another carriers simcard is inserted, is there another way or terminal command?
I have the unlock code, but only have my AT&T sim. I was wondering if there was another way to simunlock the phone besides the tradtional method.
What is exactly your problem? What did you try to solve this problem? What changed since the problem arised and before that? If you provided any of this information that is neccesary, I could try to help out
Not a problem, just mostly a question.
Is the only way to SIM unlock a phone the traditional way of "I must insert another carriers SIM"?
Is there a particular app that I can manually run or a terminal command I can enter that would ask for the code?
I don't have another simcard so that's why I'm curious

If your phone is AT&T and so is your sim card. You are not going to get the unlock prompt. Buy yourself a PAYG sim card,( not ATT&T ).. they are cheap and might even come free.. Insert it into your phone and enter the unlock code.

if you buy from Tmobile they will provide unlock code upon request. if you buy from private seller you can use unlocking services which provide codes for fee. when buying from private seller make sure that imei is not blacklisted.

I see, it's someone from eBay, I'm assuming they found the phone since it has a sim lock when it's turned on. So putting a different sim in it wouldn't remove the lock?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
if you are buying locked phone from eBay you are running into risk that phone is reported lost/stolen and imei is blacklisted. once blacklisted that phone won't work on major gsm networks no matter if you have it Sim unlocked and new Sim installed. Request from seller picture of imei number and check if it is not blacklisted. Still, even if check shows ok, phone can be reported as lost when you it.

Anyone know if a sprint n7 unlocked will work on T-Mobile properly??? Thanks.
Yes they all will but you may not get the specific TMO software tweaks.
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Yes you can do it. Can't unlock it yet though. We need an ENG kernel or a root to be able to unlock.

What are you talking about? Either the Sprint Note 7 with an unlocked sim slot works or it doesn't. If it has the radios and it sees the simcard for TMO. Then it should work. No need to wait for much.

Unless Sprint unlocks your phone, you're not gonna be able to use it on T-Mobile until a root method drops. Once rooted we can unlock them. I've unlocked over 100 S7 edges from Sprint. Its what I do for a living.

OK. So that's what you do. *shrug* But I doubt it.
The OP asked if an unlocked Note 7 would work on TMO. It will if the sim card is unlocked.
It's a code to unlock it not a kernel. The kernel would be to unlock the bootloader ... a sim unlock and a bootloader unlock are different beasts.
It's not the sim card that has to be unlocked. It's the phone. Sprint don't take codes anymore. Sprint has to approve the unlock now. Just like T-Mobile and the device unlock app. The custom engineering kernel will grant root access to write the correct byte in for the unlock.

Well, the sprint N7 has root now. Do you think you can unlock it? The one I bought is NOT unlocked.
More than likely. I'm on vacation though. Europe

If it's fully paid for then Sprint has to unlock it if you ask. Then you will be able to use it on any carrier.

If its fully paid for they will be able to tell in their system and will unlock it. Doesn't matter who bought it first. The main thing is if it's fully paid for.
