Just a little tip for you Kaiser users out there.
Don't try and reset your phone with the stylus in the dark.
You might accidentally do what I did and ram it right into the mini USB port breaking it
I've seen a post earlier about this in this forum, from a Hermes user that was used to the port in another place... However, fubaring this is somewhat akin to winning a Darwin Award
Crikey, how hard do you press when you're resetting? You hardly need any pressure, certainly not enough to break the USB port!

I did the Same thing. Luckily I was able to straighten it back out. Then the phone broke and I got a new one. It was within 30 days.

Oooo!!! Painfull!!! Soz, my sense of humour is bad...
same thing happened to me. I was having phone issues and wanted to hard reset and couldn't get the hard rest button presses to work and kept trying and trying... one press I did the same thing, I was able to straight out the USB plug.
BTW, for the person who asked "how hard were you pushing", it wasn't so much the force but the fact that the stylus wedges between the inside edge of the port and the plug itself and actually breaks the plug very easily. Hardly any pressure is needed to wedge the stylus in.....
Seems like you'd be more likely to stick it in the microphone hole (which could also do damage). They should have put a cover on the port.
HTC must have assumed that no one would be resetting in the dark, what normal personal does? just us tech geeks...
My son had a similar incident. He was attempting to place the stylus back in the silo as we were moving down the interstate at night on a trip to grandma's house. Well it would not go in, so he pushed harder and harder until... He broke the usb receptacle and fubarred the stylus pretty good. It was an honest mistake, but his mom was/is furious. 'Til this day she will not let him touch her phones anymore.
Yes I did this the other day as well. Luckily I didn't manage to break the USB port, but it did bend. I'm actually glad I did it because now when I reset I always think about where the USB port is, its not likely to happen again. Kind of like when you burn your hand on the stove for the first time. Its too bad HTC put these 2 holes 5mm apart.
So I've had my XZ for a week now, I'm on my 2nd one which I had exchanged. I've noticed on this one the flap that covers the charging port doesn't press down completely! If I press down on it there seems to be a slight movement, like 0.5mm of give, not much but I'm worried if I decide to put it into water would it survive?
Does anyone else have this problem, or am I being really nit picky! My first one shut completely flush.

I've noticed that as well, as long as you press in the end of the flap nearest the top of the phone first, I find it holds the cover in more securely.

i have no problem with it!
it keeps in its port properly B
Mine sit tightly. Maybe ask Sony about it as they might be faulty. If they move - it means they don't sit there properly and might leak ( i think )

How tough are these flaps? and what if one was to come off?
I ask because the other morning, got up late out of bed, picked up my XZ and pulled charger cable out also pulling on the flap, with it being dark and couldn't see properly, I thought i'd pull the flap off as that's what it felt like. Thankfully I never, but scared me a little

So as the title says : my phone fell in the toilet... (i know so dumb)
Its already 1 week after the incident, i first waited 3 days to turn it on. Which it still does, actually everything works! :good:
But the only downside is that my screen is doing some crazy things.
So now my real question is if i replaced the LCD screen with something like this https://www.amltelecom.com/kleinhandel/products/Display-LCD-LG-P990-Optimus-Speed-2x.html would my display be normal again or is maybe a chip inside also corroded so the new screen will have the same issues too?
I tried making a screenshot on cm7 and when i looked at it on my pc, it didn't show the striped and flickers.
So what i think is that theres some water behind the screen wich makes it flicker all the time.
So what do you guys think about it?
Anyone had some expierence with water damage?
Hope you guys can help me!:highfive:
Thanks all!
Atheoran
My usb port is having some issues too now, sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't...
Even if I let it stick in the same position sometime it does work and after some time it won't some I'm guessing replacing my usb connector too would have some effect.

Hi there!
I don't know about the water damage. I would take the phone completely apart and let it dry like that for a few days. But again, no experience in that.
With the USB connector, I had this with my phone once I thought, turned out to be the USB cable, and not my connector. Be sure to test with other cables first before replacing your USB connector.
Hope it helps!

Why don't you try taking the phone to the service centre and see what they have to say. If they can fix it out by service then you might save money and they are professional's.
All the best and i hope it does not hurt your pocket more.

I can recommend the second one (first seems very long).
Difficult steps:
1. remove digitizer with bezel (frame) from case, use credit card (preferably old one),
2. avoiding dust between digitizer and lcd screen - use gloves, and
3. putting back digitizer and bezel - start with fitting micro-usb input while checking all buttons. Be careful, micro-usb entrance easily gets damaged!
Furthermore, I recommend to put wrap around all your toilets
Good luck

Phone portion starts at 3:20 if time stamp doesn't work.
A couple of concerns but I may give it a shot. First, are the speaker grills too small that the spray would create a "covered hole?" Does the unibody construction help or hurt the fact that it cant be opened? They don't have a product that works over glass yet so that would have to be taped over. In the end though, I thing this may be useful for minor spills/soaks. Anyone else?

Wow. An actually waterproof phone. Huh.
Too bad you can't open this phone. This thing is glued together, as far as I know.
Maybe we could get away with just spraying all the openings?
I like. I may have to give this a shot. This will work good for my work boots too.
Wouldn't Rain X work for the glass? I know it works great on my vehicles.

I don't think there's any point to this other than the internals. It leaves a frosted finish. Only spray this where you can see it/don't mid the aesthetics.
On that note: iFixit declared this device un-repairable. So I think the best solution is just to spray this into all the holes. As long as we can be sure that it won't damage the internals.

There's a teardown that shows how to take it apart. You can separate the back of the device, but seems a very tedious process. Best just not to use it underwater
Even if you did spray it, who would want to test it afterwards.

I'm just thinking the ports. If anything, it will buy you a couple of extra seconds to dive into whatever you dropped it in. Hopefully NOT the toilet though.
I saw a few videos of the "one" dismantle and most broke it.
I am amazed by this process

Exactly. You can't take this phone apart. Someone (COMPLETELY RANDOM) said there is an exact temperature at which the phone will disintegrate cleanly. Anyone wanna give it a shot?
And about that video, it has some pretty awkward acting...
I am wondering if you spray a material into the charging ports and headphone jack, isn't that going to hinder any conductivity? And also, won't plugging in and pulling out headphones and the charger just wear the material off? I will not be doing this with my phone, as I see no reason to do so. If you want your phone to work under water, ziplock makes a product for that (and it won't void your warranty.)

Yep. This product requires two coats. We have no idea how it conducts. So chances are it'll screw up your phone. Also, I read in the reviews that it wipes right off non-porous materials (i.e metal and some plastics).
I would not be willing to attempt this mod as the phone doesn't come apart cleanly to properly cover the mainboard as suggested.
Best of luck to anyone that attempts this.

My xperia Z has been exposed to tiny amount of fluid through the headphone jack, im using stock rom, but with doomkernel v9, after exposed to the little amount of fluid, it suddenly shut down and turn on again, but then the rom appear what it says at the bottom left "Safe Mode", at first i thought theres nothing to worry about, just reboot then everything back to normal... but when i done that, the LED indicator show Red color, vibrate once, few second later it vibrate 3 times and it begins to do that over and over again without even entering the boot screen... now i cant get the rom booted... Help me, what must i do?? Can i get it to work again by drying it up using a hair dryer???
It's dead, red LED, vibrate > 2 sec > 3x vibrate and reboot is an unrecoverable hardware fault.
Whatever you do, don't use heat. Put it in a bowl of dry rice with all flaps open for a day or two to absorb the liquid. If that doesn't help there is nothing to do.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
leave it in rice for a few weeks since its water resistant it will tak longer to absorb anything.
Copypasta from another thread I posted in:
Vacuum/hair-dryer are both bad ideas for electronics. The vacuum is bad because it creates a lot of static electricity, and the hair-dryer because, obviously, it heats the phone up to high temperatures.
What you should do immediately is to turn it off (hold Power and Volume up until it vibrates thrice), open all the flaps and put the phone in a bag of rice, letting the rice absorb the water for around a week or so (or at the very least 3-4 days), preferably with a drained/removed battery but this isn't really an option with Xperia Z. After this you need to make sure to get all the rice out before closing the flaps and starting it up.
Fingers crossed nothing has short circuited and/or corroded yet!
Please note: leave the phone in the rice for at least a full week with all flaps open and removable components taken out.
Thanks for the reply guys, and yeah old tricks using a bag of rice... erm, does a silica gel helps, because im using it now... hopefully...

Hope it's OK. And yeah, as he said, the silica will work even better that's what it's designed for after all.
Why is nobody putting forward the fact that the OP's phone might be permanently damaged? It was powered on with fluid inside it, which may have shorted out some critical components.
In that case, no amount of time in rice or silica will do any good.
Edit, I see Rekoil mentioned shorting/corrosion above. While getting the phone near absorbent material quickly may prevent corrosion, it's likely that any shorting out of components would have happened instantly. I hope the OP's phone isn't destroyed, but I wouldn't hold much hope for it as powering on a device with fluid inside it is pretty much the worst thing that you can do.

The jack connector with the water sensor is really bad placed!
I've listened to music under the rain with an umbrella, i've just taken one drop directly on the sensor, so now i've the detector totally red but my phone works perfectly, when i've contacted Sony they said that not taking in charge of warranty :'(
Just be carefull with your phone if you're listening to music with this jack connector or use blutooth headset.

While I agree with the sentiment that you should indeed be careful with the phone, the water ingress tape is in exactly the right place. The water resistance is compromised with the flap open (even with headphones connected), therefore the tape is positioned to indicate that the flap was open when contact with water was made

So buy a Sony SBH50 or something. That way you can use your regular headphones and still not have to open the flap for them.
