I don't like it running either but because it's part of the Android system you can't disable it unless rooted. And then any app which uses it to find content (most music and video players, photo album apps etc) won't work properly, although there are folder browsing apps which don't need it.
You need it... root won't help
to reduce its drain switch off keypad tones & vibrate....
anything that uses media files will start media server that is what it does

That is a bug in android 4.1 firmware. Google it for a media scanning bug in 4.1 , u will find many answers.but only solution is 4.2

For me, I solved the problem largely by using the donate version of Greenify.
I greenified "media storage", "memory" and "storage capability", and this solves the problem. Greenify will allow apps to be frozen when they are not in use, but when they are called via intents, they wake up almost immediately, hence preserving battery without losing any capabilities.
A must have!

1. Why uninstall? Never uninstall system apps if not sure it will work. There are apps that can freeze apps, then simply unfreeze if needed. Titanium backup can do this and much more like backup.
2. Don't know, never used launcher pro, xperia launcher are the best Imo
3. Choose yes to use wifi, and use an app to set it to use in eg Europe, Japan or wherever....search in xda for like gps faster fix.
As for 1 there's also a list on the web stating which system apps can be deleted or not. You risk fc and apps mot working properly as they depend on another, easy freezy are also an app to use for freezing apps
Easiest for you would be to install a custom rom, you need clockwork mod recovery and root then. Pm me if you need a guide
Thanks for the sugestion now i have reinstalled messaging app and disable it using root app delete

Lg home(i am using launcher pro)

Hidden menu-use it very rarely
Rsstarter- don't know what is this for !!

I'd advice you to keep from freezing / uninstalling apps if you don't know what they're for. It's not like you will get a huge performance improvement if you delete these, so I'd let them be.
You can freeze the LG launcher (or uninstall it if you want) as long as you have another launcher installed. This is required, otherwise you're in for disaster.
Thanks for a very quick reply
Just wanted to say after freezing some of the apps that i donf use i got a very good ram space and i feel that my device is now working much faster
Now what about freezing browser and lge hidden menu
And yeah what is rsstarter ??
thanks

It's for the Remote Screen service. If you don't use it, you don't need rsstarter. I removed it with no evident side effects.
BTW, thanks to SuperSkill I learned something new -- I didn't understand before what exactly "freezing" meant...
Thanks freezed it successfully..!
and yeah +1 to superskill from mr as well

What ROM are you running? I think if you disable it your pictures and music aren't going to show up in their apps. Usually if you manually force close, it won't eat you battery.(in settings/apps/all/media storage, depending on ROM)
I'm on smoothie v3 beta 2 and I don't mind that I can't see my pics and music I just want to be able to disable media scanner on demand but also enable it when I need it. Do you how? Mabey a app?

Maybe you can freeze it with titanium backup pro(or find a free app if there is one), but I have no idea how. It might also cause other problems so be careful.

Had the same problem as you, especially facebook consumes alot of ram doing nothing.
Because facebook is a system app you cant greenify it.
To change facebook to a normal app I used system app mover:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover&hl=nl
Havent seen any problem doing this, facebook updates normal and is working fine.
After changing facebook to a normal app you can greenify it .
Hopefully this helps you killing that awfull facebook app

I converted system apps to user apps before else i would not know either!
Actually if you get the Donate version of greenify, it allows you to greenify system apps too, as well as display notifications for the greenified app even if it is hibernated! It is well worth the money!

Hi all, I noticed that since the last update, the Sony Album app is showing thumbnails as photos.
The thumbnails are very small files and thus very bad quality.
I already deleted the thumbnails several times via root browser but they keep showing up.
Also wipe app data or complete fresh install doesn't solve this.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
Thanks in advance!
Regards

I'd say that you've been using this phone for a long time (assuming you didn't do a factory reset for a long time) and it's time to back your stuff up and put them on the computer/HDD and do a complete system reinstall using PC Companion/Flashtool and put your things back.
Or at least that's what I would do if I were you.
